Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Joe Tasker (Presenter and Social Media personality) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Joe Tasker (Presenter and Social Media personality), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hi DGG, I am trying to help make a page for Joe Tasker born in 1993 who is a TV presenter and social media figure as people keep editing the wiki entry for the climber named Joe Tasker who died in 1980 which is causing confusion.

Apologies if I have fallen foul of wiki rules. I am trying my best on my first entry. I sought to copy and paste from articles I can find online to match the necessary citations needed. I can remove anything that serves as promotion as that is not my intention.

I would appreciate any support you can give.

Thank you. Simonneedle (talk) 08:38, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Can you confirm that you have read the guidelines on conflicts of interest? Do you have any connection with Joe Tasker outside Wikipedia? Deb (talk) 13:12, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your response. It's a bit unclear, but it kind of sounds like you do have a conflict of interest so you shouldn't try to create an article about him. Deb (talk) 13:50, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Have you read the COI guidelines? It's not clear from your response whether you have one or not. It depends on how well you know him and you are not being forthcoming about that at the moment. Deb (talk) 14:04, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay, the main thing is that you aren't writing the article with the intention of promoting someone you know. At the moment there are a lot of things wrong with the article and I would recommend that you spend a little time getting to know how Wikipedia works before you try to create any new articles, or recreate this one. For the present I am accepting that you haven't got a COI that would prevent you writing an article in a non-promotional manner. Deb (talk) 14:11, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Go to Wikipedia:Teahouse for help. Deb (talk) 14:17, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
No, it was rejected at review. If you can bring it up to the required standard, you can re-submit it. Deb (talk) 14:30, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Simonneedle. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GSS💬 16:54, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

There is no conflict of interest under Wikipedia’s terms Simonneedle (talk) 18:00, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Simon. Your new draft is a lot better than the old one. I will need to delete the old one now as duplication is not allowed. Deb (talk) 09:52, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Deb! I’m hoping to get more time to work on the new one soon. Simonneedle (talk) 17:30, 3 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Based on off-wiki evidence you have a conflict of interest you must declare before you edit see WP:DISCLOSE. Also, please don't move drafts that you have created yourself or you will be reported for violating WP:COI. Let another user check to see whether the drafts should be accepted.
