I like to see Appalachian Spring on the Main page today (not by me, just interested and reviewed), and I also made it my story. How do you like the compromise in the composer's infobox? - How do you like the statue (look up places)? - I was undecided so show three versions ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:40, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda! SilkTork (talk) 16:53, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
- Today I see Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:45, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
- plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:08, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- today a sad task - memory of Andrew Davis - turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:15, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
Raheeiejaz907
Last year, you blocked Raheeiejaz907 (talk · contribs) for socking. Raheeiejaz907 renamed the talk page of Atif ahmad8 (talk · contribs) Typically, such actions are indicative of socking as well. While the editing patterns of both users are similar, editing Pakistan military-related BLPs. I'm curious why latter wasn't also blocked based on this behavioral evidence? —Saqib (talk | contribs) 19:42, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the head's up, User:Saqib. It's highly likely I didn't block because I wasn't aware and so didn't look into it. The sockmaster of Raheeiejaz907 is User:Raheelejaz907 who hasn't edited in a while, so there is unlikely to be much in the way of current technical evidence. I am no longer a checkuser (I never keep those tools when I leave ArbCom) so I couldn't investigate anyway. If Atif ahmad8 is editing unproblematically, and there is no evidence of ongoing socking (that is one user editing the same material simultaneously from two or more accounts), then it's not something that would excite my interest anyway. It's the spirit/intention of the policy/guideline that I tend to follow, rather than strict wording. If Atif ahmad8 starts to edit problematically or in concert with Raheelejaz907, then please let me know, and I'll look into it. SilkTork (talk) 10:03, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- But I believe Atif ahmad8 should be blocked, with the possibility of being unblocked only if they agree not to engage in sockpuppetry again. I strongly suspect that the IPs responsible for removing sourced material from this BLP yesterday belong to this Atif ahmad8. —Saqib (talk | contribs) 10:19, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I can't help you there, as I no longer have the tools to look into it. You're better off putting forward a case at WP:SPI. I don't have much experience at that sort of thing, but I do understand that they like to have evidence in the form of diffs. SilkTork (talk) 11:00, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Lobsterthermidor part III
Hi SilkTork. Remember Lobsterthermidor (talk · contribs)? You blocked him in Feb '21 and he resurfaced as an IP last May (see here) when you re-blocked him. Well, he's been back editing since at least last October from the IPv6 range 2A00:23C6:C423:4401:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). I came across the edits by chance while doing AV work. He's staying away from his former editing areas, but there's no doubt about it: compare this (before) and this (after his edits) for example. I haven't looked at the edits in any depth, but the work looks depressingly familiar: superficially good, but bloated and probably riddled with the usual OR and unreliable sources. Worth doing anything about, do you think? —Smalljim 22:15, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- I agree, that is clearly User:Lobsterthermidor. Blocked, and then I blocked the range. In order to discourage Lobsterthermidor from continuing this game, we should track down and remove all their recent contributions per WP:EVADE. SilkTork (talk) 08:20, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Today's story mentions a concert I loved to hear (DYK) and a piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old (OTD). - I can't recall a DYK hook with links to five composers, so am a bit proud of it. Better than my first idea, actually. (The discussion is on the talk, and reading it as humourous is perhaps a good idea.) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:01, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
29 May 1913: The Rite of Spring - today's story, actually something I saw at that place in a revival. - Do you remember the infobox discussion 100 years after the premiere, often mentioned in the arbcase? - Today a user who returned after several years said that nothing changed. Would you agree? I wouldn't ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:21, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Franz Kafka died 100 years ago OTD, hence the story. I uploaded a few pics from the visit of Graham87. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a tune used by Bach and Mozart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:11, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Today I wanted to write a happy song story, on a friend's birthday, but instead we have the word of thunder on top of it, which would have been better on 2 June, this year's first Sunday after Trinity. The new lilypond - thanks to DanCherek - is quite impressive. As my 2 Jun story said: Bach was fired up. - Today's Main page is rich in music, also Franz Liszt and a conductor. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:31, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Today is "the day" for James Joyce, also for Bach's fourth chorale cantata (and why does it come before the third?) - the new pics have a mammal I had to look up. - Did you know that after the RfC for Joyce, I thought these infobox wars were over? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:57, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- We are going to Dublin next month. A little late for Bloom's Day, but I shall still visit Davy Byrne's pub where I shall have a cheese sandwich with a glass of wine (they, of course, do have it on the menu: 20 Euros). Chrissie is more interested in Beckett, so will visit Trinity College with Phocea while I do the Guinness tour. We will then tour the south of Ireland in a retro campervan, and go kiss the Blarney stone. My mother's family is from Waterford in Ireland, so this will be something of a pilgrimage for me. - New pics of food and flowers come with the story of Noye's Fludde (premiered on 18 June), written by Brian Boulton. I nominated Éric Tappy because he died, and it needs support today! I nominated another women for GA in the Women in Green June run, - review welcome, and more noms planned. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:56, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- A review was started, and no other noms were good enough. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:24, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- I rarely get involved in audits these days. Though I have two articles that I have had on the back burner for a long time which I intend (perhaps "vaguely consider" is the better way of putting it) to submit for FA (A1 in London) and GA (Brewing). I bought a book two or three years ago, because it has a little more detail about the tram that went up Archway Road, but I've not yet made use of it. Good luck with your noms. SilkTork (talk) 08:54, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Good plans! - While the women's month is over I think about Zwei Gesänge, Op. 1 (Schönberg) for GA, - I had great help for the musical part which I could have never done with that expertise, - something I like about Wikipedia: to combine the talents of people. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:58, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Reporting suspicious User
Hello respected @SilkTork I hope you're well. My name is Parwiz from Panjshir, Afghanistan, and I'm a Wikipedia user. All my activities are focused on my country, Afghanistan. Recently, someone named @Gabriel606 has been opposing my activities without any reason. I don't know what his goal is, but when I visited his talk page, I saw that he had previously been accused of taking money in exchange for publishing articles. It seems that he is involved in activities that are not aligned with Wikipedia's policies, and a team of experienced users is supporting him. I hope they can be identified and blocked.
He is unfairly nominating my articles for deletion, which discourages me from continuing to work on Wikipedia. Parwiz ahmadi (talk) 15:53, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- In June 2023, @Bbb23 asked you a question of your previous account. But you decided not to reply. In January 2023, @Melcous warned you against vadalism but it doesn't seem like you have changed. In June 2024, @thetechie also warned you against WP:CANVASS but you never saw that right. Before I nominated your article for AFD. A lot of your article has been nominated and was deleted because you never submitted them for review. There is no article of yours you have ever submitted and they got accepted. You said "a team of experienced users is supporting him. I hope they can be identified and blocked". You seem to be funny lol. I hope you learn your lessons someday, because all this editors that has ever reached out to you are just trying to help you. But you want them all blocked so you can have the world all to yourself. lol and cheers. Gabriel (talk to me ) 16:42, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- If there is something going on that I can help with, let me know; but please - both of you - don't come to my talkpage to moan about other users without any other purpose than to insult that user.
- Parwiz ahmadi, I am giving you an informal caution regarding making accusations against other users without evidence: see Wikipedia:Casting aspersions and Wikipedia:No personal attacks. If you are concerned that Din Mohammad Jurat is going to be deleted, then your best approach is to look into the concerns about the article, and find reliable sources.
- Gabriel601, I am also giving you an informal caution regarding Wikipedia:Casting aspersions, and suggest that you strike the personal comments in your AfD nomination: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Din Mohammad Jurat - these sentences are unnecessary and are personal attacks: "Also the creator of the article seems to be a newbie which I guess hasn't practiced about the wikipedia article wizard before contributing to wikipedia." and "Maybe he had to fake it to make it look like its an independent reliable source". Remember: Wikipedia:Comment on content, not on the contributor. SilkTork (talk) 08:39, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
Question from Gurjotsachdeva (05:00, 20 June 2024)
Hi, thank you for extending your support. I wish to create a Wikipedia page - how can I go about it? Appreciate your guidance. Thank you. --Gurjotsachdeva (talk) 05:00, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, welcome to Wikipedia, Gurjotsachdeva. One of the things I have learned during my time on Wikipedia is that pretty much any question I have has already been answered. The trick is how to find that answer. The search function on Wikipedia is pretty good (not perfect, but pretty good). So my first approach to looking for an answer is to put the keywords from my question into the search box, but putting "WP:" first. So your question is - how to I create a page? So, if I put WP: how do I create a page, into the search box I get Wikipedia:How to create a page. If I put WP: creating a page, into the search box I get Help:Your first article. Both provide useful information with links to Wikipedia:Article wizard and Wikipedia:Articles for creation.
- My suggestion for you is to edit a few existing articles before attempting to create your own article. You will learn a lot from doing that, and you will benefit the project. You will make mistakes, everyone does, and people will point them out to you (or simply revert your edits). Be patient. While anyone can edit Wikipedia, and it is fairly easy to do, it takes time to learn how to edit it successfully such that other editors respect your contributions and either leave them as they are, or build constructively on them.
- I suggest you start by reading through some articles that interest you, and do some simple copy-editing (see Wikipedia:Basic copyediting), correcting spelling and grammar mistakes, and helping improve the flow of the language. You could find articles which need copyediting at Category:All articles needing copy edit. Once you have done that for a while, and feel comfortable, you can move on to adding sources (citing a reliable book or text, or linking to a reliable website - see Help:Referencing for beginners, and for more advanced information see Wikipedia:Citing sources). You can find a big list of articles that need sources added at Category:All articles with unsourced statements. Adding sources is important, and you would find it difficult to get an article accepted on Wikipedia these days without proper sourcing, so it's useful to learn how to do it.
- That's plenty for you to read. You don't need to read it all at once; though it is useful to have the links so you can refer to the information now and again. If you are not sure you have the time to learn how to write an article, you could request one be written at Wikipedia:Requested articles.
- Good luck! SilkTork (talk) 08:23, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

The story is today about the first published composition by Arnold Schönberg which I was blessed to hear. Listen, and perhaps read what Alma Mahler (to-be-Mahler at the time, to be precise, who was present at the first performance) said, and yes that was too much for the Main page ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:25, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a Bach cantata premiered 300 years ago OTD. - A meeting of two women - the occasion of the cantata - is pictured in our local church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:44, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
3 July is the birthday of Leoš Janáček, and I'm happy I had a meaningful DYK in 2021. It's also the birthday of Franz Kafka, and I uploaded pics from his family's album seen in Berlin. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:44, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
Libuše Domanínská, the subject of yesterday's story, would have turned 100 today, but I missed that ;) - Overnight, Tamara Milashkina became GA and Lando Bartolini went to the Main page. I made my story about his almost unbelievable career, from Luigi in Il tabarro in Philadelphia in 1968 (with a nod to Liberty) up to Calaf in Turandot in Beijing in 1999 ;) - 4 July is also the birthday of Brian Boulton who was a pioneer of a concise infobox in 2013. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:21, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:38, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:16, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:59, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Remove/lower protection of Adidas
I do not feel ECP on the page is necessary due to the relative infrequency of edits. I don't know how low it should be, but I propose no protection with pending changes. You can make it semi or no protection at all if you want but ECP is no longer necessary. If vandalism returns it could go higher. CharlieEdited (talk) 20:08, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm a little hesitant to reduce protection on a highly visible article (over 110,000 pageviews a month) which has been subjected to high levels of vandalism (1,690 reverted edits), and even with current protection gets vandalised: [1]. The article has continued to grow since protection ([2]), so the protection in itself has not stopped editing - despite a comment on the talkpage saying that is the case. What has happened is the number of edits has declined - the bulk of which were reverted: [3], but the quality of the edits has proportionally increased. The Extended-confirmed-protected edit requests on the talkpage are working as intended - with speedy responses. Because, before the semi-protection, there were over 200 IP edits a year, it would inappropriate to apply PC, as that is too many edits to monitor (PC is intended for "infrequently edited articles"). However, let us try semi-protection without ECP to see how it goes. ECP has now been removed. SilkTork (talk) 09:33, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
Bed-in
Hello. Wondering why you moved Bed-ins for peace to Bed-in. The "ins" indicates more than one, and 'for peace' summarizes the reasoning behind the performance artwork, so the full name seemed adequate and descriptive. Shouldn't this have been an RM (unless it was and I missed it)? Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 22:32, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- I came upon the article and noted that the name apparently didn't meet WP:CRITERIA, so I did some research on the use of the name, and after looking into it, I changed it to fit the criteria. Recognizability - the most common use is "bed-in". Naturalness - the most natural use is "bed-in". Precision - "bed-in" is precise and exact. Concision - there is no need for superfluous words such "for peace", as "bed-in" is all that is needed. Consistency - it matches Sit-in, Human Be-In, etc. It is singular as that is what we prefer per WP:SINGULAR. I followed common usage in reliable sources such as [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], etc. "Bed-In For Peace" is also used, and may be regarded as the "official" title for the two main events, though even when the official name is used, journalists prefer to then use the simpler form of "bed-in". We prefer WP:Common names over WP:OFFICIALNAMES, so go by most common usage. I did a Google search for "bed-ins for peace" (10,300 results), "bed-in for peace" ( 122,000 results), and "bed-in" (90,300,000 results), and found that pretty significant. I also noted that while bed-in was a well established redirect, and the incoming links (mostly from templates) used "bed-ins for peace", there were still an average of 15 daily visits to the page ([9]), which would mainly be coming from those typing in "bed-in". As per Wikipedia:Moving a page, I didn't think that moving the name would be controversial given the reasons given above, so made the move. SilkTork (talk) 13:55, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the full answer. Since this was a performance artwork as well as an anti-war protest the only question seems to be 'what did John and Yoko call it'. 'Bed-in' seems to be the overall descriptor of the type of event (Sit-in, not Nashville sit-in, Be-in, etc.) but was it the name of the event? If not then Bed-in would be fine as a redirect but not as the article's title, which should be the name that Lennon and Oko used at the time (was it "Bed-In for Peace"?). Randy Kryn (talk) 14:20, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yoko calls it a "bed-in": [10]. And I do recall at the time that Lennon called it a "bed-in" as he introduced it - something like "It's a bed-in folks". I recall seeing that on the news. Hang on - I'll see if I can find that. Yes: [11]. SilkTork (talk) 19:08, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- And I just found this: [12]. SilkTork (talk) 21:12, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, good find. Which leads to this, which could be used on the page if it isn't already. Notice Ono uses an uppercase 'I', here and in other sources (Bed-In). Randy Kryn (talk) 23:18, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I had noticed that; and some other sources also use that capitalisation. However, the bulk of the sources use "bed-in"; so, as we prefer WP:Common names over WP:OFFICIALNAMES, we tend to go with the most common usage. SilkTork (talk) 04:13, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. Will keep it on my watchlist to see if any other editor (or Yoko) weighs in at the page. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:59, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Today I have three "musicians" on the Main page, one is also the topic of my story, like 22 July but with interview and the music to be played today -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:14, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extrordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. It's nice to have not only a recent death, but also this "birthday" on the Main page. And a rainbow in my places. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:01, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about education, 10 years OTD after lecturing our founder). Music for today's feast is Monteverdi's, the best concert we ever did (so pictured again on my talk), but it wasn't recorded, substituted with a "Pacific" one that comes with subtitles line by line in Latin and English: I learned something! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:09, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
Help? My story today is about a woman, nominated for RD but needing support as I write this. A composer died whose article is long and mostly unreferenced. And some articles open for review, always. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:04, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- I am largely retired on Wikipedia. I've done little of significance for a while. I interfere in minor things randomly as I consult the encyclopedia - adjust some phrasing or spelling, or fix a name. That's all. I do have vague intentions of taking some article to GA or FA, such as Brewing, which I have tinkered with for some years now. And if I am to invest some time on Wikipedia, I guess it would be to finish off stuff like Brewing. Good luck with getting what you are after Gerda. SilkTork (talk) 17:12, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Let's see. For the violinist, I achieved three supports, - now I need an admin to move her to the template In the news, but I was out all day and just returned from choir rehearsal. When I don't go out, I usually do things myself. The Goehr article, however, is more than I can handle alone in the remaining five days until his death will be no longer regarded as recent. I'm more hopeful that we can be successful than when I called for help because I found that large portions are simply copied from his publisher's biography, and can simply be rephrased or quoted. I remembered him on his birthday, and noticed then already that the article was in bad shape, and wished him a long life that we won't get into the situation we now face ;) - Did you notice that my DYK for his opera in 2019 was on 26 August, - his day of death? - I hope you keep reading. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:45, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

- With four supports, the violinist "made it" just before I went to bed. Goehr work is detailed on the talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:56, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

- Let's see. For the violinist, I achieved three supports, - now I need an admin to move her to the template In the news, but I was out all day and just returned from choir rehearsal. December site ban
In early December this year I'm going to request the Arbitration Committee to site ban me and also block my IP addresses. I should have all the former parishes project done before that. In terms of taking up too much community time I don't think this would be a problem as it would not be too difficult for the Arbitration Committee to simply pass a motion to site ban and block. An additional clause that could perhaps be added is that I can never appeal or that I can appeal after 10 years. I'm assuming WP:ARCA would be the correct place to make such a request although I might also ask for a concurrent community ban like what was done with User:Edgar181. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:20, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- I can block you on request. See WP:SELFBLOCK. This is much quicker and easier, with less drama and less bureaucracy, and is guaranteed to work; I don't know the Edgar181 story - I had resigned from ArbCom that year, before they were blocked, but ArbCom doesn't really do blocks on request. You could appeal the block, but set a condition that no admin grants your appeal for a year. Ten years is a long time, and people change, so most admins (including me) would listen sympathetically to a well worded appeal after a year or two. SilkTork (talk) 03:46, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- I'm talking about an official ban not merely a block. You anyway stated "a future inappropriate request may result in a motion not to their advantage" last year which is what effectively this is. If such a request comes from the user then I don't see why unappealable or 10 year appeal time bans couldn't be set especially if they're enforced by IP blocks. We already have Category:Wikipedia users banned by the Arbitration Committee with 45 members so clearly the AC does deal with site bans. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:36, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- The offer is there if you want to take advantage of it at any point. SilkTork (talk) 08:06, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Today is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display his portrait by Egon Schiele, music from Moses und Aron, and two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday ;) - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:58, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
