Etrog Talk Page edit

Etrog is not a certain cultivar within citrus medica, but is how the Jews are calling it, according to the special use during Tabernacles. The Greek Citron is actually called variety etrog, but in fact many other varieties ( for e.g. the Diamante) are even preferred by many.Shoteh (talk) 17:19, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I did a bit of investigating a while ago, but I never got a clear picture of whether it was a cultivar or simply a variety. Either way, the taxobox should be updated to reflect that. Is it Citrus medica var. etrog? Or is it Citrus medica 'Etrog'? Sources were conflicting, though. Something must be done to the taxobox, though, to make it plain and simple to see that it is not Citrus medica. Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 17:42, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I see. So from your info above, Etrog is neither a named cultivar or a published taxon? So then the taxobox should be removed entirely if it's not a taxon. Rkitko (talk) 17:44, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Rkitko, You are probably right about the matter but I don't find the box which fitt the purpose. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoteh (talkcontribs) 18:29, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
That's ok. It's not such a big deal. I'm sure it will get fixed some day. You seem to have a good knowledge of the citrons, so I'll leave it in your capable hands! Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 19:38, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I placed an image at Diamante citron and the very important caption doesn't show up. I would appriciate if you can fix it. Shoteh (talk) 20:06, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done. It was just missing the "thumb" parameter from the image link. --Rkitko (talk) 20:16, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. And just to let you know, most people prefer new messages on their talk page to go at the bottom, at least that's the trend I've seen. And you don't need to create a new thread every time. I simply moved all your messages to one of the threads you started at User talk:Rkitko#Etrog Talk Page. A minor point, but thought I'd mention it. :-) Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 20:49, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please {{helpme}} get a translation of the latin text from Giovanni Baptista Ferrari regarding the Diamante citron, as well as the same about the Greek Citron in the following page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoteh (talkcontribs)

Hmm, does an official translation of the text exist? Wikipedia prefers official translations. Doing it yourself can be a violation of some policies and guidelines (like no original research - it also isn't very verifiable since your translation may differ from someone else's). Are you asking for help finding such a translation? Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange might be the place to ask for help regarding such a resource. Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 21:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

High Capacity Files edit

Hi there! You mentioned on my talk page that you have some computer files which are copies of an "old book not available for sale." It is acceptable to cite books in wikipedia articles. Sources need not be just websites. As long as the book is a reliable source then feel free to go and cite it. The templateCite book is a great way to do this (instructions are on the page). If you need any more help please feel free to post here or on my talk page. Best regards! --omtay38 01:22, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello, maybe you are the user with the nickname fr:Utilisateur:Yeshiva witch is creating articles about etrog in the french wikipedia. Well they are translated in my brain from french to english but hopefully I don't need an authomatic translator to do such a thing;) Anyway I do apologize for the mistake and will try to translate those articles asap. Best regards--Kimdime69 (talk) 22:33, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bizzaria edit

You removed the category Botany for this article, with the argument that it is too broad, and citrus is enough. This is not true since bizzaria is a historical case in understanding of botany and hybridization, as you can see Charles Darwin and all the genetists were busy with the Bizzaria. In fact, the category Botany is even more important than the category Citrus, and please recorrect yourself. Shoteh (talk) 20:41, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I stand by my reason. Look at the other articles in Category:Botany. Categorization is supposed to be used as a hierarchy. I don't believe that Bizzaria is a general topic of botany. Categorization is supposed to be as specific as allowed. Bizzaria should not remain in that category. WP:CAT will have the appropriate guidelines for categorization. --Rkitko (talk) 22:12, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

PDF IfD edit

Firstly, I wasn't aware of the link due to it being in external link format, like this, and not in wikilink format, like this. I fail to see the relevance that the document has to the article [although I cannot read Hebrew, PDF documents are not usually useful]. After all, this is the English Wikipedia; the Hebrew Wikipedia may have more use for it. Regardless, please feel free to make your opinion known on the IfD page. Thanks. RichardΩ612 Ɣ |ɸ 17:04, May 8, 2008 (UTC)

This article is by a high esteemed professor and horticulturist, which is written in Hebrew because the most interested in citron studies are the Hebrew speaking Jews. But when one wants to know anything about the citron which was the ancestor of all the cultivated types he would have no access to it. The English Wikipedia is the first to provide such infomation of which part of it is gathered from Hebrew sources, and was later cited by many other authors and websites. By deleting such a pdf, which is a very important and interesting article, you are decreasing the usefullness of the English Wikipedia, and banging the door for the citrus industry in Wikipedia. Dont do such an evil.

Greek citron edit

Good morning. How wide is your browser window? If it's wide enough for the table of contents to fit between the two images, then Greek citron looks OK, although unusual. Make it narrower, and the table of contents either overlaps the first image, or is partly hidden behind the second. I tried it in two different browsers. - Fayenatic (talk) 08:05, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply. I confirm that the picture arrangement is fine now.

You twice removed the copy edit tag without improving the article. Please do not do this; it is a marker to other users of Wikipedia to acknowledge that an article is still a work in progress.

In the case of this article, just looking at the first sentence:

  • the first appearance of the article title should be in bold text according to the Manual of Style;
  • "it's" in line 2 should not have had an apostrophe;
  • there is no such word as "rituali"; and
  • "extraordinary" is one word, not two.

I've copy edited the whole of the first paragraph; please let me know whether my changes are acceptable to you. I am willing to go through the rest of the article when I have time; it's what I do best! - Fayenatic (talk) 21:23, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Jewish genetics edit

A tag has been placed on Jewish genetics requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Nudve (talk) 11:24, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

no good reason edit

There is a very good reason to remove external links from a wikipedia article - wikipedia is not a collection of links. There are probably a thousand pictures of etrogs on the internet - do you plan to provide links to them all? There are also hundreds of sites that sell etrogs - why do you only link to milechai? Please read the wikipedia page on external links. You will see that all of the links I removed fail the test for inclusion, and they all fit the criteria for links to avoid. --Bachrach44 (talk) 12:41, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of JafGifts edit

A tag has been placed on JafGifts requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Thanks for uploading File:Jaf Gifts.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Proposed deletion of Maalos edit

The article Maalos has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references and no claims of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Translation of shoteh edit

Hazal would use the word הדיוט to describes exactly the definitions you qouted for the greek ἰδιώτης, idiōtēs or the latin idiota. This mishnaic hebrew word obviously came from greek along with many others. (see אִידְיוֹט - האקדמיה ללשון העברית (hebrew-academy.org.il)

Shoteh on the other hand refers to someone with mental incapabilities. An idiot would not normally describe someone of this nature. גוי אחד בארץ (talk) 23:49, 10 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
