Hi, my professor and I are unable to see my edits. She is trying to grade them and my edits have been deleted because of a Creative Commons license issue. Is there a way for us to at least see my edits? Can you to help us? Afuegs (talk) 01:27, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Afuegs, it looks like the content was deleted because it was taken from another website, so I won't be able to restore them. I can, however, send a copy of the edits to your professor so she can see what you'd added. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:32, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

That would be greatly appreciated if you sent the copy of my edits to my professor. Her email is skoopman@kent.edu Thank you so much.Afuegs (talk) 15:37, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Happyweekdays (talk) 1

Hello.

Thank you so much for your help with editing and reminding me of the copyright. I also changed some of the words later. Do you think it's a time for me to post on wikipedia?

-Happyweekdays-Happyweekdays (talk) 19:16, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Happyweekdays, I thought the page was pretty much ready to be moved live previously, but I see that one of the admins moved this back to your sandbox. I've asked for him to weigh in on the article on the sandbox's talk page so that we can fix whatever he saw that made him transfer the article back. I still think it looks good, but I think we should wait to see what he says. We may need to expand the focus of the article or perhaps see if we can include it in another article for the time being, if all else fails. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:11, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

Reliable Source

Hi Shalor! Do you think the two sources below can be considered as reliable sources? Thank you :)

www.saatchiart.com/art/Painting-The-origin-of-the-world/63820/3551428/view.

www.lichevalier-info.com/li-chevalier-s-monograph-at-the-contemporary-art-museum-rome-macro-testaccio-27-jan-26-march-1.

--Tangs01 (talk) 02:31, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Tangs01! The Saatchi Art site cannot be used as a reliable source because they sell artwork, so any coverage they give the artwork won't be usable. It's in a seller's best interests to promote their products in any way possible, so we can't really trust anything on the site. Odds are that the content on the source is good, but we still can't use it. The other source is a press release issued by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome about an exhibit, so while it would be considered a primary source it should be OK to use this for some basic information. The main catch, however, is that you should be extremely careful with any quotes or claims made by other people mentioned in the source. For example, the source quotes François Cheng twice, however the impression here is that they are pulling from another source for these quotes, so we'd need to be able to verify the source for these quotes to make sure that they're not being taken out of context. (This is actually pretty common with reviews of any type, TBH.) Still, it will be a big help to the article since it contains some of Chevalier's own opinions and thoughts on her art. Renaissance to Modern Art

Hi!!

So i'm in the Renaissance to Modern Art class at Mira Costa and I was able to go to an exhibit for my artist at the Vincent Price Art Museum, seeing as there's not a WHOLE LOT of info on my artist online, I took pictures of some of the signs that talk about a few of her collections. I was wondering if/how i'd be able to use that information. How would I cite it? Am I allowed to use that? Obviously I would rewrite it and try to pull from other sources as well, but some of the info I got there is very helpful to what i'd like to do for her wiki page. 17:47, 3 November 2017 (UTC) Savannah Barnhart 11/3/2017 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sav.leigh (talkcontribs) 17:47, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Sav.leigh: That's a good question! The best option would be to see if the museum has any of this information about her online or to see if there are other sources out there about her - you may want to see if there is anything printed about her offline in your library. However that said, I'll ask at the reliable sources noticeboard about this information to see if it can be used and if so, how to cite it. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:08, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Also, out of curiosity, which person are you writing about, where are you searching for sourcing, and can you find something better? I'm not certain how usable this is, so we definitely want to see if we can find something better. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:14, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I've reverted some text as too closely paraphrased. I've given a suggestion as to how to reword one edit but left Jenna with the other edit to work on. Perhaps you can give her some advice. I don't like the source by the way, but it's already used in the article, which is really very poor. It needs to have something about recent academic scholarship but I'm guessing this isn't what these students are meant to be doing. Doug Weller talk 12:01, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Categorization

One of the things I do is check for article categories that contain non-articles (e.g. pages in the Wikipedia namespace). I'm repeatedly finding that pages such as Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/UMBC/Language in Diverse Schools and Communities (Fall 2017) are being inadvertently placed in article categories. When a talk page (for example) is inadvertently placed in an article category this only needs to be fixed once - however, these Wiki Ed pages are repeatedly being pasted in with the inadvertent category tag (why does this copy-pasting need to be done? has the en wp community given approval to it?). This causes unnecessary work for editors who fix categorization problems as well as potentially confusing anyone using these Wiki Ed pages. Please can you ensure that an appropriate change is made to technology/processes to ensure that adding incorrect references to categories in these pages is stopped. Hey Ed,

Thanks for letting me know about the copyright issue. I'm new here and forgot to cite it. I added a link to the image under source. I hope this suffices. If I need to do anything else, please let me know.

Thanks, Carson — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cscameron (talkcontribs) 20:40, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Thanks Cscameron! My main concern, however, is that the website marks the image as copyrighted to the 2nd Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities. This means that we can't use the image without their express permission, which means that they would have to essentially email Wikipedia's Volunteer Response Team and give Wikipedia permission to use the image. Need help request from Paxiwiki (talk)

Hello.

I need help with editing a portion of a Wikipedia page. I have attempted to organize Nikos Kazantzakis' page while also fleshing out parts of his article, like the section on his literary career, use of demotic Greek, and his relationship to the Greek Orthodox Church. I have a few more sources I would like to add into the article, as well as some more content, but I wanted to see if you thought I was on the right track with this edit.

Please let me know if there are any gaps in my writing, too few citations (though I will be adding more later), or if there are any other major problems that I may have overlooked. I would also like to create a separate page on his complete bibliography, rather than having it entirely on his main Wikipedia page, please let me know if you think that is a good idea. He has written quite a bit, and I did not see too many other authors with the same number of works who had their entire bibliography on their main page.

--Paxiwiki (talk) 05:46, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Paxiwiki! The first thing I noticed was that some of the content could be seen as original research, by which I mean it's content that you came up with on your own based on the author's work and the available sourcing. This is written to be more of a persuasive essay than an encyclopedia article per se. Some of this is stuff that could come across as a personal opinion and can be fixed fairly easily by just attributing it to a specific academic or critic within the article. (IE, stuff like "According to John Smith..." and things along those lines.) With others, the content needs to be tweaked in order to better fit the style of writing on Wikipedia. This sentence is a good example of something that needs to be tweaked:
"Indeed the struggle to find truth in religion and spirituality was also echoed in a great deal of his works, and some novels like The Last Temptation of Christ and Christ Recrucified focused completely on questioning Christian morals and values."
This is a sentence that is perfectly fine in an academic work or persuasive essay, as it's entreating the readers to see their point, but it doesn't really fit on Wikipedia. However this is something that can be relatively easily tweaked to be like this:
"The struggle to find truth in religion and spirituality were common themes in many of Kazantzakis' work, as The Last Temptation of Christ and Christ Recrucified focused completely on questioning Christian morals and values."
Basically, this turns it from an imploring "crook of the finger" to the reader to a basic statement of fact. Since this is mentioning themes, this should definitely have a source.
As far as his bibliography goes, I'd recommend not turning it into an individual page at this point in time and to wait and see how it looks after you merge everything in. The author's page isn't really all that long and I don't know that the new additions would make it lengthy enough to really justify making an independent article. Need help request from NCSTATE27 (talk)

Hello.

I need help with my draft at my second sandbox. I'll be editing the cuban economy page on tourism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:NCSTATE27/sandbox2

NCSTATE27 (talk) 21:00, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

--NCSTATE27 (talk) 21:00, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi NCSTATE27! I noticed that your draft doesn't have any sourcing - all content needs to have sourcing that backs up the claims, even if the claims don't seem like they'd be controversial. As far as the writing goes, it's not bad but it could use some tweaking. One thing I did have a question about though - the paragraph claims that tourism wasn't present in Cuba since the late 50s, however later content in the same paragraph appears to contradict this. This is something that should be clarified - for example, if you mean North American tourism, then you should probably specify that there was a travel ban and an embargo on items brought from Cuba. The reason for this is that the US banned travel from the US to Cuba which isn't exactly tourism per se - people could still tour Cuba, they just had to go to another country in order to get travel arrangements. It was dangerous business, as US tourists would be warned that if something happened in Cuba, they wouldn't have an embassy to seek assistance from. This was of course made more tricky by the fact that these tourists were sort of considered persona non grata until the 90s per Cuba's own regime. In any case, other countries could visit Cuba, but the distance would of course mean that it wasn't as easy to get to Cuba as it was for people from the US. (Sorry, I'm a little bit of a history nerd.) Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:42, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

the section of my sandbox labeled "2nd Contribution Draft." I'd love some feedback regarding this new paragraph that I am adding to Wikipedia.

--Jdb322 (talk) 20:53, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jdb322! One of my co-workers has given me a bit of a primer on studies as sources - we can use them, but ultimately the biggest problem is that these are primary sources for their findings, so we'd need some secondary sources that cover the studies' results to use them. There's also a bit of a concern as to why a certain study was chosen over another, as it's up to the searcher as to which study is used. I can help point you in the direction of things that would reference these studies - you can see this on Google Scholar, for example. Other than that, the section looks pretty good. Need help request from Jaybickchick (talk) 2

Hello.

I need help with editing my Engineers without Borders - Educators section. Please help me with my quality of writing. Thank you.

--Jaybickchick (talk) 20:50, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jaybickchick! The section is a little too general - for example, it tends to discuss education and engineering in general and isn't really specifically about EWB per se. I think that it may be better to make this into a general section about education and the things that EWB specifically offers students. Educators could be mentioned in a general sense here. Now as far as the 2008 incident goes, that's pretty interesting but it's something that would fit better in the impacts section or even a section that covers criticisms and controversies surrounding the organization, since the section mentions that there were more than a few, if there's enough coverage for this. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:15, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Vwdesmondi (talk)

Hi Shalor,

I just finished my draft of my next article. I was looking for some feedback on the neutrality of the section--I'm not feeling confident in how I've written it.

Any Feedback, of course, is appreciated. Sandbox: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Vwdesmondi/Sandbox:LGBT_refugees_in_the_united_states Thanks! Vwdesmondi (talk) 20:12, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

    • Hi Shalor,

I would be adding to the article en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asylum_in_the_United_States#LGBT_asylum_seekers — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vwdesmondi (talkcontribs) 20:29, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Vwdesmondi! This looks really good so far - I added some notes via templates so you should be able to see them when you hover over them with your mouse. Offhand my main note was that you mentioned a prior ban on LGBT refugees but didn't go into any detail about this, which would be something good to add into the section. You also need to explain what you meant by criminal penalties in the lead sentence, as this was a little vague. On a side note, have I introduced you to WP:LGBT? This is a WikiProject that focuses on expanding coverage of LGBT related matters in general. I didn't know if the LGBT articles and edits were something for class or if this is something that you have a larger interest in - either way, I really want to encourage you to stick around and check out some of what Wikipedia has to offer. You may also like Women in Red, which focuses on expanding coverage on women and women related topics. I can really see you fitting in with these projects and I highly recommend introducing yourself on either project's talk page - they love it when new editors show an interest in helping with the project! Helping is pretty easy - it's what you're doing right now, for example! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:07, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from ayang (talk)

Hello.

I need help with making sure the way I presented my information conforms with Wikipedia's standards. Is the tone neutral and objective? Does it seem like I'm presenting original research when I talk about gender ambiguity? I've also found a scholarly discussion about whether or not gender in Mesoamerica was complementary or hierarchical. Is this discussion relevant in Wikipedia article? Also, would this article benefit from a breakdown of gender by different Mesoamerican societies, assuming I can find enough research on individual societies like the Mayans, Aztecs, etc. I also noticed that many Wikipedia articles discussing gender in different societies are not about called "Gender roles in ____", but instead "Women in ____" or sometimes "Gender inequality in ____". Would it be better for this article on gender roles in Mesoamerica to shift focus to something similar?

--ayang (talk) 06:22, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

It would be added to the existing Gender roles in Mesoamerica article! ayang (talk) 22:07, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi ayang, I did some tweaking for flow since it jumped around a little. This looks really good and I didn't really see where it felt like original research. I do think that if you can find enough, that a breakdown by gender and society would be very interesting! As far as the article title and focus goes, I think that sticking with gender roles is a better idea for the time being, mostly because this seems like it's meant to be a general overview of what each gender would do in their society rather than focusing on the differences in equality between them, especially as the subject is relatively broad (all Mesoamerica). I do think that a section on gender inequality would be a good idea, though. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 23:06, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Chris train (talk)

Hello.

I need help with...

the organization and content of the outline I've posted to my sandbox. In terms of organization, I'm having trouble determining how I should label my subheadings and what information I should place in each category. Do the ones I wrote seem acceptable? In terms of the content, I'm worried about when and how often to cite. My resources are mainly two sources, and I'm citing from one source particularly often. If I'm summarizing information from the source, should I cite at the end of every sentence? What if two or more consecutive sentences contain information from the same source, is it still necessary to cite at the end of each sentence?

This is the source I'm using the most

Arnedo-Gómez, M. (2012). Uniting blacks in a raceless nation: Afro-Cuban reformulations of Afrocubanismo and mestizaje in 1930s Cuba. Journal Of Iberian & Latin American Studies, 18(1), 33-59. doi:10.1080/14701847.2012.716644 --Chris train (talk) 20:42, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Chris train! You should definitely diversify the sources that you're using - can you access the other sources used in the live article and see if you can use those? Now as far as when to use them, the way you've been using them in the draft so far looks good. You can generally cite once at the end of a paragraph, however you would repeat the source inside the paragraph if you are using a quote or if there's a particularly contentious claim.
So far the headers look OK, however they may need to be tweaked later on - I wouldn't worry so much about header titles as much as just organization and the article in general - the main thing is to know what should be in the article, which you basically have laid out here. Could you help me revising and editing my new article.

--HappyweekdaysHappyweekdays (talk) 20:10, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Sure! I'm about to enter office hours so I probably won't be able to actively get to it until tomorrow, though. Until then, my main recommendation would be to look over the main article and try to see if the content is already duplicated elsewhere in the article and if so, whether or not the info in the draft would put a new perspective on this information. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:52, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Hi Happyweekdays! I think that the best thing to do to start off would be to make a quick list of what should be in the article. So far here's what I think should be in the section: I think that a brief overview of the education history you wrote should be there, as well as a small subsection about educators and students. I think that we could probably include a brief overview of the issues faced, however it would have to be brief, so maybe just 2-4 sentences about this listing out the issues. Can you think of anything that really should be in there? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:15, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Shalor, When you say educator, do you refer to faculty I wrote in my second article draft? Should I merge my two article as two sections in the existing articles? --HappyweekdaysHappyweekdays (talk) 20:29, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi QuiteCurious, what you have looks good - my only caution with grouping by series is to make sure that you are going by the official series titles and groupings. Sometimes the most popular title for a series is more of a fan creation than the official one, so just be careful. What I'm primarily thinking of when I say this is the Hollows series, which is often referred to as the Rachel Morgan series. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:25, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

--Mwillmer (talk) 19:34, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Mwillmer, I made some edits for flow - overall the content looks to be pretty good, what I'd recommend is working on expanding the criticism section to be a bit more fleshed out - it also looks like you could probably create a section on the story's themes, with the way some of the content was written here - you can re-use these sources to create this section, of course. There was one section that was a bit dodgy, as it was unsourced except for a Wikipedia link, which cannot be used as a source. The only other thing that stood out was that the theater section wasn't entirely sourced. Also, if there's a way to expand this, that would be good as well, since the idea of this is pretty interesting. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:39, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

If you're editing in VisualEditor (and if not and want it enabled, follow these directions) you can enter the citation's URL or DOI number and VisualEditor will automatically create the citation. If it looks like the citation is missing details such as the author or other content, you should be able to edit it and enter this information via the blanks. There's a nice video on this here. Genderqueeer page

Thank you so much for the feedback. Should I remove my addition of the history section? I did not mean to add something I should not have. I guess I did not understand exactly what I could and could not add to the page. I can certainly remove what I added. I am also supposed to do either an updating of the links if any are broken and at least one is but I can't find a replacement link. And according to our assignment I need to either reword a paragraph to read better or copy edit something. But now I am a little worried doing much to the page. There were a few other ideas I had for the page but now I am not sure. Can you please advise. Thank you so much! Jenmom1973 (talk) 06:00, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jenmom1973! I don't think you have to remove the section, especially since you're still expanding it. I was more just warning you do you can be logged careful with the page, is all. I think that adding a history section to this page is very important, as the word genderqueer has such a long and interesting history that should be noted in the article. --Darth Kawauso (talk) 16:02, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Darth Kawauso! Is this artist covered in academic or print sources that would be considered a reliable source? If she isn't, then you may need to pick a different artist, as we will need enough sources to be able to establish notability. However if there are sources but they aren't on the internet, that's no problem. We would just have to have a complete citation so that people could find the source if they so desire. In any case, finding sources (about 4-5 in-depth, independent reliable sources) should be one of the first activities. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 23:45, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Neflores1/sandbox2

The Italics is feedback from my classmate

--Neflores1 (talk) 16:09, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Neflores1! The work looks pretty good - I have a few notes, though. The first is that you need to specify the sources. Several of the sources only state the journal it's pulling the information from rather than the specific article, volume, and so on - this will need to be in the article in order for people to verify your information. It would also have the benefit of providing a place for people to go to if they want to read the same source for their own benefit. :)
The other thing is to make sure that you attribute data and claims. For example, while the deficit definitely seems significant to you and me (and honestly to anyone with eyes), we should still write it like "Economists like X have stated that..." or "According to economists/researchers/etc like...". The reason for this is that another person may claim that the deficit isn't that big or that it isn't significant for whatever reason. Other than that, this looks pretty good! Hello.

I need help with...

This section! It needs a lot of edits and I can't find an accurate page for it to fit. Do you have any suggestions?

Nigerian Women involved in Human Trafficking (Dr. Haenn please look at this section)

It is estimated that roughly 15 million Nigerians live abroad[2]. Nigerian men and women began to leave in the 1990s to find work; primarily in agriculture and in the service sector. A very popular reason to do so is to help bring their families out of extreme poverty since Nigeria is rated one of the sixth poorest nations with a per capita GNP of about $280 US dollars for a population of about 133 million people[2]. Since the late 1990s, there has been a lot of corruption when it comes to passports and visas produced within Nigeria. There is such a high demand for a visa or passport that people began producing fake passports and selling them in the market. There’s also a market in Nigeria for passports with false information, passports of another identity, and to simply place a false photograph on an original passport. With this occurring, European countries such as Norway began to deny any visas or passports from Nigeria since many of them started to come illegally. With Nigerian passports and visas getting denied, citizens started to find different legal ways to get citizenship in foreign countries. This is where human trafficking steps in.
According to UNESCO, Nigeria has gotten a reputation as “one of the leading African countries in human trafficking with cross-border and internal trafficking.” [1]Human trafficking is a way to exploit women and children for cheap labor and prostitution as way to help themselves out of poverty. Nigerian human trafficking occurs both internal, within neighboring countries, and in many European countries. Human traffickers target vulnerable women and children and coach them to secretly leave their families and to lie to officials. The whole process involves a lot of manipulation and control over the people being trafficked. Most people who are human trafficked travel through railroads, boats, and other forms of under the radar and cheap transportation. Once women and children reach their destination, they are stripped of their identity and documentation. These people are then told they are forced to work until they payback their “madams”.[3] The people who are responsible for human trafficking are known to officials by three categories; supporters, partners-in-crime, and madams. Most madams are African madams which is crucial to the process because they are able to gather the trust of the women in the system. This work of the trafficked people includes being a prostitute, maid, etc. In the year of 2004, Nigerians were the fifth largest group seeking asylum in Europe; a portion of which arrived in Europe due to human trafficking[4]. There is little research done about the statistics of which of these are trafficked. Due to the secrecy of human trafficking, it is difficult for researchers to gather this information. It is said that Italy is one of the biggest destinations for Nigerian trafficking victims since researchers were able to discover 10,000 Nigerian prostitutes.

Hi Shalor, I was thinking fusing two articles until later I realized a large number of Chinese faculty is not part of Chinese American who is born in U.S or the citizen. So I tried to make it an article and I found it was removed again.

--HappyweekdaysHappyweekdays (talk) 18:51, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

And I think my Chinese faculty article is deleted because i cannot find my text now. I want explain that I have to write at least 1000words for each article to meet the class requirement so I wonder if i condense them i probably will fail the class.

--HappyweekdaysHappyweekdays (talk) 19:02, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Happyweekdays - I ended up moving the article because I was afraid that it would be nominated for deletion. I'm going to help you put something together for this - I've also asked your teacher to take all of this into consideration when grading you as you've worked incredibly hard on this, it's just that the pages aren't really sticking as individual articles. I'm actually going to work on this now, so I'll tag you in the draft so you can join in. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:31, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
  • I know that it's not perfect - I honestly would have preferred the individual page myself as well - but I did come up with a subsection that you can add to the main article on Chinese Americans that should at least cover part of this topic. You can find it at User:Happyweekdays/Chinese Americans draft. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:03, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Reply about Kayla E. article

Shalor, my apologies for making the page live that was not my intention yesterday. I was only getting familiar with the website and going through some of the modules suggested in the training. I might have clicked something by mistake. Anyways, I also need some clarification about the article deletion (in the future?). So if I work on a page for Kayla E. and can't find anything that is actually published the way Wikipedia requires it. My work will be deleted? If that is the case, I need to get in contact with my professor to see what she wants me to do. Thanks for your reply and your time! Happy Editing!Tr0n20 (talk) 22:02, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Tr0n20 - unfortunately that's correct. If there isn't enough out there that focuses on Kayla E. specifically, then the article will end up getting deleted. When you talk to her I'd recommend that you suggest working on the article for Nat. Brut, as that could use some expanding and is fairly integral to Kayla E. as a whole. Need help request from Lhewins (talk)

I need help with...adding my edits to the original wikipedia article. I have tried and it won't work for some reason. Could you help me? Thank you.

--Lhewins (talk) 00:58, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Lhewins - what exactly is happening when you try to edit? I do see that you added some content to the article on Point-to-point (telecommunications), however it was removed by Kvng. Offhand it looks like it was likely done because you didn't have in-line citations and because the writing style was a little casual. For example, this is a little confusing because it's partially a sentence fragment: "Or when using a telecommunications provider. It is also the modem that converts analogue signals to the digital data stream." I've tagged Kvng to this in the hopes that they can give a bit of a more in-depth explanation. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:16, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
@Lhewins: I reverted your contribution because it was a mixed bag and did not offer a clear improvement compared to where the article stood before you edited. Often I try and improve contributions to get them over the hump but it was not clear to me how to do that in this case. I couldn't fix the sentence fragment without understanding what you were trying to say here. The new material on advantages and disadvantages was not clearly written and seemed to duplicate information already available elsewhere in the article. ~Kvng (talk) 19:18, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Request for access to the edited content

Hi Shalor, Thank you for letting me know why the edits on my page had been removed. I understand the point of view. I spoke to my professor and she would like to have access to the content that was removed. Can you suggest how we may go about accessing this? Is there an email id that I can share you can send it across? Or you also have the details on our Comm Theory page (the Communication Theory and Frameworks page). Please do let me know how to go about this. Thanks. Hayday13 (talk) 19:24, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

Shalor (Wiki Ed) I would like to use the content I searched for to be added on the page. I do understand the guidelines. I can be careful about it if you're okay with me trying to post it again. I actually created infographs for the page and posted them on Wikicommons so that I can have a free copyright access to it. You can search it under Face Negotiation Theory. thanks. Hayday13 (talk) 21:05, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

I am sending a copy of what the article looked like before the copyvio content was removed to Shalor (Wiki Ed). This probably does not help with grading as since the history is revision-deleted it's impossible to tell which user added which content. Regardless, I have sent it along to you, as Hayday13 does not have Wikipedia email activated. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:21, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your help Diannaa Shalor (Wiki Ed). Please let me know so that I may keep my Prof. updated on the turn of events.Hayday13 (talk) 04:24, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I wanted to check if I could post on the theory page if I were to revise the additions? Turnj Shalor (Wiki Ed)

  • Hi Hayday13 - I think that this should be OK as long as you are very careful and make sure that everything is in your own words. I would also recommend that you draft a copy in your userspace first, as this will give you more time to work on what you will add and make sure that it follows sourcing and tone guidelines. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:05, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi Shalor, thank you for your help. I'll keep in mind these guidelines and you could have a look over it once I post. Hayday13 (talk) 23:00, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello!

I was wondering if you could look at the page draft for "Amy Tan" that I have in my sandbox. I've edited it after having some peer review, and I was wondering if there was anything else that needs to be changed. Thank you so much for your time!

--Sorenss (talk) 02:24, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Sorenss! The contributions you have look very good and I think that it's generally ready to be added to the main article. My only notes are these:
  1. the information about the house being spacious and accessible may be seen as a little off topic. The term accessible is also a bit vague, as this can mean open and welcoming or it can mean accessible to people with disabilities.
  2. I would leave off the bit in the criticism section "Though she has won a number of awards for her work". This can be seen as a bit pointed, like we're chastising the critics, which can make this seem less neutral. I would just start with something like "Tan has received criticism from critics for...", as this is a lot less charged.
Other than that, this looks great! Thanks for underlining your changed, that was a great idea! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 22:41, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Thank you so much for your help! I'll be sure to change the sections that you mentioned before finalizing everything.

Hello Shalor,

I just finished editing my first article, and I had asked the professor if it was alright to go ahead and add what I thought needed to be done. I just edited this article : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchising

This is what I added, and would like your feedback. We are currently learning about this International Business. Advantages and Disadvantages of Franchising as an Entry Mode[edit] The primary advantage of franchising is that the firm does not have to bear the development cost and risks of opening a foreign market on its own.[11] It is usually the Franchisee who is in charge of those costs and risks. This creates a good reason for the Franchisee to build a profitable operation as quickly as possible. Using a franchising strategy, a firm will be able to build a global presence quickly and also at a low cost and risk.[11] A great example of a global franchising company, is McDonalds.

One of the primary disadvantages of franchising, is quality control.[11] When you have a franchising agreement, the franchisor wants the firm's brand name to convey a message to consumers about the quality of the firm's product. For example, when a business person stays at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong kong, they can expect the same quality of room and service that he/she would receive in New York.[11] The brand name is suppose to guarantee consistent product or service quality. Although, if he/she had a bad experience at one of the franchises, they may think all the other services provided are the same. The geographic distance of the firm to its other franchisees can make poor quality difficult to detect.[11] Although, one way around this disadvantage, is to set up extra subsidiaries in each country or state in which the firm expands. This creates a smaller number of franchisees to oversee, which will reduce the quality control challenges.[11]

Thank you, Brooke d'Adesky --Bdadesky001 (talk) 18:05, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Bdadesky001! I've looked it over and it looks good - I've done some slight tweaking for flow, but by large this looks to be excellent. I was wondering if you would be willing to add more to this section as far as advantages and disadvantages go, as this is a good section to add in my opinion. Hello. I would like feedback on my Topic 2 Final Draft. It is intended to go under the "Perspectives of countries taking immigrants" heading on the Environmental Migrants page.

Thank you!

--Japswep21 (talk) 04:34, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Japswep21! I made some small tweaks here and there. Overall this is good - the main thing I would caution you about is that some of the content could potentially be seen as an opinion, especially as the topics of emigration and climate change are often seen as inherently controversial. I would just throw in an "according to" type of attribution and this should be good to go. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:32, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Carlota (slave rebel) article

Dear Shalor, my name is Manuel Barcia and I just wanted to bring to your attention my book from 2014 West African Warfare in Bahia and Cuba; Soldier Slaves in the Atlantic World, 1807-1844 (Oxford University Press, 2014) where I actually discuss Carlota's role in the 1843 Triumvirato armed movement at some length (if you get the chance to read the book, you will see that one of my main arguments is that we should probably stop calling these events revolts and start referring to them as military actions, as they were led by skilled military leaders and soldiers who in their vast majority had been enslaved in war actions across various parts of Africa). The reason I mention this, is because you cited my 2008 book where, as you correctly said, I barely discuss the role of Carlota and that of Firmina (who, if you allow me to be critical, even in your article seems to be a secondary character to Carlota, when in reality, during this armed movement, she was probably much more important as a leader of armed men and women). Also, important to mention and going back to my point above, that your methodological section could also consider including my discussion of the reasons of African slaves in Cuba to go to war in the first half of the 19th century. Please do check it out. The book came out before Aisha Finch's and just as Ada Ferrer's book came out to, and it engages with both, as we have discussed these issues in person numerous times over the years. This is a topic that is dear to my heart (as it happens, I was the Atlantic Studies editor that saw Myra Houser to a successful publication from the moment she submitted), and I wouldn't like to leave anything out of this discussion, especially considering that my 2014 book actually engages directly with this.

Thank you!

--Jdb322 (talk) 21:16, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jdb322! The draft had some content that in its previous state would definitely be seen as a personal viewpoint or a platform to protest Spain's immigration policies. I've done a bit of a re-write to help with this and to help with flow and redundancy. Some portions seemed to state the same idea (that Spain's policies are too confusing and hard to successfully pass), so I whittled that part down some. There are some portions that seemed a little vague, specifically the idea of "preferred" and "outsider" statuses, so this is something that I think should be expanded with a brief explanation of this. Response to Sandbox page being moved

HI, I'm responding to your message on my sandbox page being moved to article space. The reason I keep putting it back on is because I am doing this solely for a project at school. Having users constantly delete my information, may cause problems for accessing my article. I was told I was suppose to do my article that way, if it's an error, it's my mistake. This whole Wikipedia platform is really confusing for a first-time user. I won't move the article anymore. JayKMPix (talk) 21:02, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi JayKMPix - the information as far as draft copies and feedback should remain in your userspace - your teacher will still be able to see the content. Since this is pretty much just a scratchpad of sorts, it doesn't really do anything for the live articles, although it is of value when creating them. I do have some notes over your article on LGBT organizations in Africa, as I had to move this to the draft space to avoid it getting deleted, but I'll post those on the draft's talk page.
