Hey Seahorse! I'm a rollback here, so feel free to ask me about wikipedia stuff :) And also, if you look at my contributions, you can tell that there is a VERY high amount of vandalism, so clean-up is one of the most helpful things you can do! Have a great time, Alxeedo TALK

A note on warnings and edit summaries when vandal fighting edit

Not going to argue one way or another on giving you rollback, but I should note that level 1 warnings are only for cases where good faith is legitimately assumed. If the vandalism is obvious, it's okay to start at level 2 (no faith assumed) or even level 3 (bad faith assumed) for egregious cases. Starting at level 1 no matter the degree of offense makes it take longer to block egregious but sporadic offenders.
Similarly, you've been using the Twinkle rollback option for vandalism in a number of cases where the edits aren't clearly vandalism. If you use rollback the same way, you'll probably lose it; unless the edit is clearly vandalism, you should be using the green Rollback (AGF) or plain blue Rollback (no faith assumed) options and providing an edit summary. If you get rollback, it would be a shame to lose it for misuse. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 20:48, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

As an example, I think you could legitimately jump straight to level 2 (or level 3 if you're particularly unforgiving) when warning the user responsible for this edit. —ShadowRanger (talk|stalk) 20:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rollback edit

Per your request, I've granted you rollback rights. Just a few things to remember:

  • Rollback is only for blatant vandalism (though you can use it for self reverts if you screw up!)
  • Rollback does not give you any advanced status
  • Misuse or abuse can lead to its removal by any administrator

You might also like to take a look at WP:RBK and Help:Reverting to get to know the technical side and you can run tests with it at Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. If you have any questions, just ping my talk page. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:24, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Darwen Pool Association edit

A creating editor's continued addition of content to an article tagged for speedy deletion does not constitute vandalism: no speedy deletion tags were removed; the article is simply still being developed. Reverting this - and claiming that you were removing vandalism - was inappropriate, and I have restored their code. I think you should also remove the final warning you also let the editor. I42 (talk) 19:15, 11 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Their subsequent removal of speedy deletion tags, and 3RR violations on Darwen, are another matter, of course. I42 (talk) 19:55, 11 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:Shop Rite-logo-new.gif edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Shop Rite-logo-new.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. mono 01:50, 31 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reviewer permission edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:30, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Tropical Wikis edit

Assuming you are the Seahorseruler that was listed as one of the heads of Tropical Wikis, I just want to note that I am very concerned as to the state of the two wikis I have on that service: PigaLore and MWM. They have been down for awhile now, as is Tropical Wikis proper. I have tried contacting Frozen Wind via Wikipedia but have gotten no response. I have now heard rumours that you are merging with Orain Wikis, which might explain the downtime. If this is so, then I just would like to say that I would have preferred to have received prior warning. If you are not the same person, disregard this message and I apologize for taking up your time Technopeasant (talk) 03:39, 8 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Greetings and thanks for the reply. I have already gotten confirmation from the Orain staff that Tropical Wikis is indeed merging into their service, but that move has been delayed due to "complications regarding storage and [Orain is] currently waiting for them to provide the wiki data". However, I would be most grateful if you could get a more firm statement from within Tropical Wikis itself. However, seeing as you are now a third-party as well, I hardly wish to make it an obligation. I am very grateful that you have just offered what you have, though it is naturally a bit frustrating for me that I have only so far gotten replies from auxiliary channels. Anyhow, thanks again. Technopeasant (talk) 02:08, 25 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have no wish to inconvenience you, but I would just like to ask whether or not you ever did try and contact Frozen Wind, as the situation remains unchanged and you do seem like my best option in terms of getting a response from Tropical Wikis itself. Thank you. Technopeasant (talk) 00:36, 15 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Just figured I should update you on this: Tropical Wikis finally got back to Orain and said they lost all their data. I was pretty much expecting this at this point and did what damage control I could via the Wayback Machine. FrozenWind has yet to inform me personally though... Anyways, thank you for your help. Quick Question: Backups? edit

Hi, Seahorse! This is maestro35/Sherman from the Wikia/LEGO Wiki/Brickimedia conglomerate, and you might remember me as a sysadmin from Brickimedia's first iteration. I've been told that you have some old content backups from that period of the project, and also to leave you a message about it here. I'm wondering, how much do you have (if any) from the Stories project? In particular, I'm looking for some of the policy pages that I had erected at the time; being able to see them would be a massive aid to sculpting a policy for the new project. If you could contact me about it on my Brickimedia talk page whenever is best convenient, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! 70.15.36.198 (talk) 18:05, 27 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

The edit did not appear to be Vandalism to me. It may have been incorrect information, but it appeared to have been added in good faith, therefor I approved the revision. Please look over WP:NOT VANDALISM and WP:Reviewing. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 20:08, 28 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Look at this user's recent corrections. It's a vandal. He changed Pirlo's current club to Inter Milan without giving any evidence it's correct. A person who makes some silly corrections in less than two hours can't be called a good faith user. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BartSmith85 (talkcontribs) 20:20, 28 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps you should adequately warn him on his talk page with the correct warning templates (which has not been done for his recent edits). It's not standard procedure to go back and look over a user's previous edits before reviewing one of their edits. I judge each revision individually, and this one did not show any obvious signs of vandalism. Be more careful next time before making accusations. Thanks. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 20:30, 28 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it will change his mind. In fact, I think it will encourage him to make even more bad edits. Btw, could you lock Diego Costa's page? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BartSmith85 (talkcontribs) 20:42, 28 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

It's standard Wikipedia procedure to warn users. You have to let them know that what they are doing is not permitted and that it will lead to a block. You can not report them for vandalism to have them blocked unless you issue them adequate warnings. See WP:AIV. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 20:53, 28 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Greater Manchester County Records Office edit

Hi

I noticed that the GMCRO website (www.gmcro.org) is now defunct, and, purely for the sake of tidyness, have been attempting to delete. Could you, perhaps, verify for yourself that www.gmcro.org is no longer associated with the Records Office, and confirm my deletions?

Terry White — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.152.26.137 (talk) 09:02, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I reverted your edit because you removed content without explaining why in the edit summary. On top of that, you removed the entire list of references on the page. Instead, you should remove the individual citation (usually within the article text somewhere). If you are still confused I'll try to explain what this means in more detail. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 20:59, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

When your edit summary was someone wrong edit

"After you save the page, you cannot change the edit summary, so be careful with it, particularly if you are in a heated content dispute – do not write things you will regret. If you make an important omission or error in an edit summary, you can correct this by making a dummy edit (an edit with no changes), and adding further information in its own edit summary."

That's what I normally do. Also when I meant to delete something but only wrote the edit summary! Dougweller (talk) 09:42, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I originally intending to use a dummy ediy but I didn't see a good opporunity to make a dummy edit on that particular page page so I instead quickly undid my reversion then undid that with the correct one. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 20:59, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

You Undid my Google Drive Edit edit

I must start by admitting that I'm a Wikipedia novice. I apologize if I've violated any rules, albeit unknowingly. That said, I must assert that I'm telling the truth about a key feature set of the product. And, I feel I'm being censored. But, if that's because I don't know the rules of Wikipedia, I'd be delighted to learn them better. Please advise.

Fact is, I'm a paying Google Drive user and I've spent hours today talking with a tech support guy at Google. He confirmed this:

There exists an upload/download file size asymmetry, which will result in users losing uploaded files that exceed 2 GB in size if a local copy is not kept. This loss of access to the file (i.e., loss of the file) is guaranteed if the file exceeds 2 GB. While users are permitted to upload files up to 5 TB in size, they are allowed to download and/or synchronize files up to only 2 GB in size. This TB / GB asymmetry results in users losing large files uploaded to Google Drive if a local copy is not kept. Uploading files larger than 2 GB serves no purpose (for the user). Files exceeding 2 GB will be lost forever; they will be visible on Google Drive, but beyond access ````Keith — Preceding unsigned comment added by X1920299Y (talkcontribs) 02:32, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Unfortunately, your edit contained Original Research. Wikipedia does not allow original research. You need to cite reliable sources to back up your facts. Please read this for information on how to cite sources. Thank you. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 02:39, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. So, may I post the recorded telephone conversation, in which I read aloud to the Google employee the actual and complete text of my Wikipedia edit, as a proper citation or attribution? Or, must I get a valid member of the press to write about my discovered facts/product features in an article that I subsequently cite? Your advice was helpful (read this), but not specific enough to my situation. ```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by X1920299Y (talkcontribs) 02:47, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

No. The phone conversation you had would not be reliable. It could have easily been fabricated. You must find a reliable, independent source to confirm your claims. If you can find press coverage of the information, that would be acceptable. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 02:55, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I understand. I've written to four technology journalists, a TV news station and an online news aggregator. We'll see if I get a bite. ````Keith

Edits Were Truthful, Not Vandalism edit

I would appreciate guidance on where to school myself on how to make edits properly so I don't get accused of vandalism or making edits that are not constructive.

I edited the Google Drive entry truthfully, in a way that is very constructive for users, but perhaps not preferred by Google or their friends. Removing my edits feels, to my novice mind, like Big-Brother censorship in favor of the ultimate Big Brother, Google.

On November 6, 2014, Google confirmed that there exists an upload/download file size asymmetry, which will result in users losing uploaded files that exceed 2 GB in size if a local copy is not kept. Files exceeding 2 GB will be lost forever; they will be visible on Google Drive, but beyond access

The submission must meet WP:CORP notability guidelines. Particularly, you need independent and reliable soruces to assert its notability. Facebook is not a reliable or independent source. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 01:40, 8 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Most of the article text is a WP:Copyvio - or copy and paste - from this website. This is a clear copyright violation. Besides that, unreleased software does not meet Wikipedia's General notability guideline unless it has recieved significant coverage from reliable, independent sources. In other words, something must be notable to have a Wikipedia article. Software developed by you is most likely not notable, especially considering it hasn't been released yet. Thank you for understanding. I do hope you do decide to stay and contribute to Wikipedia in other areas. Please let me know if you have any other questions. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 05:57, 8 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well, to be honest, I saw wikipedia as a reliable source and I use it mostly to find out things about programming like companies or other developers, but if you say it's others who add
information about those companies or developers and not companies or developers themselves, makes me think how reliable that information is and how can I trust it? So I don't think I'm gonna use it anymore as a source of : :: information since I can find more reliable info of those kinds on their facebook or google plus pages.
As for contributing, I'm short on time, Sorry! I wish you best of luck.

Please take your time adding speedy tags edit

Thirteen minutes is awfully fast for adding a CSD as you did at Susan Marie Frontczak, particularly when there are no obvious BLP concerns or obvious commercialism, and the editor is experienced. Thank you. Risker (talk) 22:09, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I don't discriminate based on user experience level. I look at the article. When I tagged it for speedy deletion here, the article without a doubt met the A7 criterion. The tag clearly invites improvements to be made to the article to prevent deletion, which was done. I wasn't aware that there was some specific time period that must be waited before an article can be tagged. I didn't feel that marking the article as patrolled would have been appropriate at the time. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 23:34, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
Then don't mark it patrolled. It's not a binary choice; you can simply move on. In fact, we have a surfeit of good reviewers working on the most recent articles but passing on older ones. You've got the skill level to pitch in at the older end of the queue, and it would really be great if you'd consider doing that. Meanwhile, a 15-minute-old article that's only problem is notability or lack of referencing may well be improved within the half hour. Only really problematic articles (e.g., obvious hoaxes, BLP violations, copyvio) really benefit from being speedied so quickly. Risker (talk) 23:54, 16 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

You deleted my page edit

You deleted my page and think that I am sockpuppeting. I do have two accounts on Wikipedia but only because I wasn't sure how to start another page while one of my pages was waiting to for approval. So I opened a new account. This is more about my inexperience than anything malicious. I do have an interest in the tech industry and that is the focus of the work that I would like to add to Wiki. I understand that they would like to see better documentation...I will work on improving that. Could I get my pages back as drafts? And I will continue to work on them? Please let me know when you have a moment. Thank you.WikiGuru100 (talk) 20:30, 17 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews edit

Hello Seahorseruler. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).Reply

Response regarding Brooke Fraser edit

"Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced material to Wikipedia. Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 03:00, 27 November 2014 (UTC)"

Hi there, in your response to my warning, I work for the management company that managers Brooke and the changes I am making are not unsourced or uncopyrighted, they are in fact changes that have been requested by this client, so I would appreciate if you could double think this 'warning,' as I am just doing my job. Kind Regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PoppyTohill (talkcontribs) 03:06, 27 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

No. That is a blatant violation of Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest policy. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 03:14, 27 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

-- understood, but do you not think Wikipedia accounts should be updated with new photos every now and then anyway, considering the images being used are 4+ years old?-- — Preceding unsigned comment added by PoppyTohill (talkcontribs) 03:23, 27 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your edits were previously reverted not because of the images but because they contained unsourced information - which also appears to be a COI issue based on your statement above. Besides that, adding newer photos is no problem as long as the images comply with Wikipedia's Image use policy (which addresses issues such as copyright and fair use). Thank you. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 03:30, 27 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your edits did not appear constructive to me as you removed a decent amount of content including references - replacing it with almost random/irrelevant information and not explaining why. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 04:05, 27 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

No luck edit

Tried a couple times to create some content for our company but to no avail because it needed "reliable sources." Seemed like our websites and a corporate report would be reliable but apparently not. So now what do I do? I can't find a more reliable source about us than us. Thanks for any help.

Re: Undoing one of "my" contributions edit

Hello Seahorseruler. I received a message from you on November 2014 which I read today, in which you said you undid one of my edits on the page for Michael Moore. I assure you that I have never actually visited that page; it may be that someone else is using this IP address. (I am not a user and have no identifying handle.)

Hi. This is a common issue with anonymous editing. If you recieve messages that are months old and not directed towards you, feel free to ignore them. To avoid this from happening in the future, you may wish to create your own account. Thank you! --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 21:45, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

The article about Pat Condell edit

Dear Sir/Madam,

You have undone my editions to the page Pat Condell. You assumed that I haven't kept a neutral attitude. I believe my revision reflected nothing other than obvious reality. So for you to start to know about the subject, please just watch some of his videos. They are beyond any trivialization, obviously hateful Islamophobic comments. He is notorious for this kind of videos.

Please watch the following videos: 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQjTLGgQV2w

2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIaGWURONRU

3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxlO7DLC6p8

4) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhjvoJatKOY

Is not prejudice against, hatred towards to Muslims and religion of Islam evident from his speeches?!

I am ready to give a hundred more evidence into this issue. So please admit that my modification to that page is well justified.

Best regards, K. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.21.184.8 (talk) 15:04, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Regardless of how you feel, Wikipedia must remain neutral. In addition, YouTube videos are not reliable sources. Reliable sources are mandatory when including controversial information about a living person, per Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy. If you continue to ignore warnings and violate Wikipedia's BLP policy, you may eventually find yourself blocked from editing. Thank you. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 18:59, 2 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

dj boy edit

dj boy is a trademark you actually removed the whole reference, so DJ BOY is not just some game from 1989 we have 15 clients, valued at Million + and growing faster than we can manage,

It's rude to remove reference to a RELEVANT business today which has a trademark, so someone searaching Dj Boy ONLY sees something from decades ago, short-sighted — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.94.183.41 (talk) 08:41, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

You may want to throughly look over What Wikipedia is not, specifically the Wikipedia is not a soapbox or means of promotion section. The article in question is specifically about the game, it is not a disambiguation page. The way you added it in looked like you were attempting to advertise it. Besides the point, the company you are bringing up is almost certainly not notable enough for Wikipedia, per Wikipedia's notability guidelines. It sounds to me like you either work for the company or have some other connection to it. In that case, please be careful to avoid ending up in a conflict interest. Thank you. --Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 01:36, 31 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Tool (band) edit

I saw your edit summary about this edit summary, and just wanted to let you know the user very likely was not intentionally being misleading. If you see an edit with the tag "canned edit summary" that means the user just hit a button in the mobile/mobile app interface to input the edit summary. "Fixed typo" is the first one, so they aren't necessarily being sneaky, they're just hitting the first button they see so that they can save their edit. That is all! Hi. What about this information is incorrect? It appears to be properly cited. Rather than remove large amounts of content, you should try discussing it on the page's talk page. I'd also like to point out Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy.
