Copy editing Davenport, Iowa

Hi! I was wondering if you could copy edit Davenport, Iowa? I am working on getting it to a Featured Article, and one of the suggestions on the peer review was to have a "fresh pair of eyes" copy edit the page, which is a good idea anyway. I will be asking a few people at the PR volunteer's page, to get the widest copyedit perspective I can get. If you can help me, let me know on my talk page or just go ahead and edit the article! If you can't, thanks anyway, a note on my talk would be helpful, but not a big deal if you don't. Thanks again! Ctjf83Talk 00:58, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

LOL, sorry, I auto tune out those top talk page banners...I should read them. How long until Emmeline Pankhurst is done? It would be great to have an English teacher CE for me! :-D Not to mention all the barnstars you have for it! Ctjf83Talk 01:31, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Strawberry Panic!

Hi! I'm doing a GAR on Strawberry Panic! and all of the issues have been fixed by the primary editor except it really needs a copy edit. The phrasing seems very awkward and overly long to me and doesn't seem to flow well at all. Might you have time to give it a going over? -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 00:12, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Pankhurst British spellings

Don't worry about it, I annoy the hell out of everyone by writing articles on American engineers using British spelling. I just use the spelling I am used to and leave it to Americans to put it right, I would probably get it completely wrong if I tried. At least you made the attempt (and a good one IMO). I will run it through my spellchecker at the weekend. SpinningSpark 11:01, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Howdy y'all. Ma trusty cotton-pickin' spellchecker has done its work.
By the way, did you know that your Usreboxes are being cut in half on IE6?

Master!

  The Copyeditor's Barnstar
Isn't there a gold-plated copyeditor's barnstar to top the other ones I've given you for prepping my articles before they go to FAC? Someone should make one. But then I would need 15 others to top that... This one, specifically, is for Stonewall riots. You rule. Moni3 (talk) 16:19, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Quick Grammar/Word Use Question

A quick (hopefully) copyedit type question. On all of the GAs, FLs, etc I've worked on, when discussing home video releases its always been phrased along the lines of "X was released to DVD on..." or "to VHS" etc. I did the same when doing a rescue clean up List of Record of Lodoss War episodes and fixing up its lead. Another editor, who has noted that English is not his first language, changed it to "on DVD" claiming that its more popular because of the number of Google hits. To me, "to" still seems more grammatically correct than "on" but I told him I'd check with someone else to see. Thoughts? -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 13:57, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

DYK for Emmeline Pankhurst

On 9 October, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Emmeline Pankhurst, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

BorgQueen (talk) 01:59, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations

Thought I'd drop by to say 'well done' for your splendid work at Emmeline Pankhurst. Terrific stuff. Your students are lucky to have you as a teacher. 81.156.175.153 (talk) 08:06, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit

Hello, would you like to copyedit The Other Woman for its FAC? Thanks, –thedemonhog talkedits 18:14, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I am wondering if you could review the above subtitle. I've appreciate it. Cheers—Chris! ct 19:45, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

re: Greetings and a request

Oo, a suffragist -- and a feisty one, at that! I'd love to take a look and comment at the PR, though it might have to wait until the weekend. It would be nice to get away from my own endeavors; another bear (and I don't mean that metaphorically) is at FAC, and Crane is still giving me troubles. In short, yes. :) María (habla conmigo) 19:21, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Aw, thanks! I really appreciate your help with the little fuzzbucket. Although Colbert stooped to mention Knut during a special "mini" threatdown, no word on what he thought of Flocke. Chances are she's a threat to America. Does that mean that by writing her article I'm helping the terrorists win? María (habla conmigo) 12:07, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Will get to it today, promise! So sorry for the delay... I blame RL. Boo on it. María (habla conmigo) 15:07, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Harry Potter Help

Hi there,

I saw your name under WP:PRV, and wondered if you could help me on the Harry Potter article. I saw that you specialise in books and such, so was wondering if you have any experience in:

  • Structure and genre
  • Themes
  • Copy editing (if you get the time!)

These were the points that came up on the Failed FAC (see down at the very bottom). Any comments or input that you can add would be greatly appreciated.

Please reply on my talk page.

Thanks, The Helpful One Review 20:31, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

OK thanks, not a problem. The Helpful One Review 20:47, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Willow

Hi Scartol, I know you're a very good wikifriend of Willow's, so you have surely seen that an article that means a lot to her got promoted to FA today. Please join in the celebration. You also probably know that Willow stopped editing without warning during the FAC. If you have any news, please let me know, by email or onwiki as you prefer. Cheers, Geometry guy 20:20, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

PS. I gave Emmy a little tidy up recently. Nice work there. I wish I had been more involved in the fun at the time of the FAC.

Reception history of Jane Austen

Reception history of Jane Austen, one of the daughter articles for Jane Austen, is up for peer review here. I would appreciate your thoughts. Awadewit (talk) 20:53, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

re: Emmeline

I've done it. Mostly BrEng hyphens added. A few added hidden comments about perceived awkwardnesses and possible additions. Looks good! --ROGER DAVIES talk 23:40, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

No Jacket Required

Hello there! I've never really nominated an article for Peer Review before, so bear with me. I have just recently nominated the article, No Jacket Required for Peer Review. I was a major force in turning it into the bare bones article it once was, to the Good Article that it is at the time of this message. I would love to improve it and make it a Featured Article, but I stink at these kinds of things, and usually go in a totally wrong direction! I looked at the Peer Review volunteer's page, and thought that you'd be a great person to look the article over, and see if any improvements are necessary. The link to the peer review is here. I would appreciate any sort of input, but if you are too busy, I certainly understand. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you at the peer review! CarpetCrawler (talk) 01:32, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the PR! When I get my laptop working again, I will look at and answer all of your concerns. Thank you so much, and have a nice day! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 20:54, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

Scartol, in spite of the cute Lucy-the-doctor-is-not-in cartoon, it was suggested that I enlist your help in copyediting this article. Although English is my native language, I don't play an English teacher, not even on TV, so this article needs LOTS of help. My goal is to get it to FA before the 40th anniversary of the book's publication in 2009. I would've loved to get it to FA before Dr. Angelou's 80th birthday in April, but there was no way it was gonna happen. Please! I see from her quote on your user page that you admire Dr. Angelou, so I'd really appreciate your assistance. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 04:07, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much! Answer on my talk page. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 14:36, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Copy edit request

Hello! I see you are listed on the Peer Review Volunteer page as a copy editor. I currently have an article at FAC titled History of Indiana. Prose is pretty much the only thing that might hold it back. Another user and myself have wrote most of the article, including copy editing, and have taken about as far as we can on our own in that regard. If you should have the time to give a copy edit it would be very appreciated. If not, just a few pointers would even be very helpful. And if you are completely busy that is totally understandable. Its a very big wiki! :) Thanks Charles Edward 21:09, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks anyway! :) Charles Edward 01:49, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

History of a Six Weeks' Tour

Mary Shelley's first work is up for peer review! :) Fancy a gander? Awadewit (talk) 16:26, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Do you mind going over the peer review again? This article has been a real struggle for me! Thanks! Awadewit (talk) 14:59, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Why women should not vote

I got the sections in the book I mentioned at Pankhurst's FAC. Went to the library today and copied a few pages. Shall I scan and send them to you? Use your own judgment to determine if the material should go in. If you honestly think it has no place, I'll accept that. I can scan on Monday, so that's when I'll email. Hope you feel better soon. --Moni3 (talk) 21:46, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Prose check

Greetings Scartol!I just wanted to ask if you could have a look on Meshuggah and check the prose. I want to go to FAC in the near future and I just need to be sure that it is a proffesional level of English. It would really help me... have a nice day...--  LYKANTROP  20:56, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Allright, have a nice day! :) --  LYKANTROP  16:36, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Los Angeles Lakers copyedit

Hi how are you doing, if it's not a bother can you copyedit the Los Angeles Lakers article.? The article is currently a GA nomination that is on hold. Thanks. BlueRed 00:34, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Another "Em"

There is a new book out on Emily Post. :) Awadewit (talk) 11:45, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Cite what?

Sorry...I missed your response to my comment in Harvey Milk's FAC. Not sure what you would like cited. --Moni3 (talk) 22:45, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations

Harriet Tubman on main page

Hey Scartol, I've nominated Harriet Tubman to be the main page Featured Article on election day. I thought this would be fitting since she was an American women's suffrage activist. Feel free to weigh in with a yay or nay (or edit the summary).

Also, if you get a chance, I just wrote a small article on Anne Dallas Dudley that could use a copyedit, if you happen to get bored ;) Kaldari (talk) 00:45, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

When you have a spare moment...

...would you mind striking the items that are finished at Wikipedia:Peer review/Reception history of Jane Austen/archive1? I'm wading through a lot there. :) Awadewit (talk) 00:52, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

No problem

Scartol, thanks for the note. I was thinking about reminding you, but I didn't want to be a nag... ;) Seriously, though, take your time. I understand about being busy. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 21:48, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Could you copy edit...

Hi there,

I saw your name on WP:PRV and wondered if you could copy edit London for me? I think I've solved most of the article issues that arose from the previous FAC and PR, but I think the prose needs a copy edit (I can't copy edit!).

Thanks in advance, The Helpful One Review 22:48, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

That's OK :) We're all busy! :D (and thanks for the luck!) The Helpful One Review 17:20, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
