Hi Samirbhai - thanks for your kind words! I do feel that the present less than 1% of WP content being FA situation is grossly unacceptable. Btw, please check out Muhammad Iqbal and give me your advice on making it an FA! Rama's Arrow 12:35, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem

Ah. No problem at all. Popups is a handy tool!. Things are great here (especially because I have access to unlimited broadband from today:)). Hope you are well too. I really admire the way you can take out time for wikipedia. I know how doctor's lives are. IP vandalism

Though I don't think his behavior warrants cutting off his internet completely, maybe they should restrict access to this site or such? Of course, mum and dad would find out, so I guess that would stave off future vandalism. Master of Puppets FREE BIRD! 12:28, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Me, an admin? Aww, you think too much of me. :D As last time was premature, I have a policy for the next; wait until the community thinks I'm ready, not myself, as I have a bias. But thanks for the notion! :) Cheers, Master of Puppets FREE BIRD! 21:28, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

From India, or Canada?

Just wondering, but you say in your little bio that you and your family are from India, but you have a user box that says you are from Canada. Not that it's a big deal, but you could always change it to the one I use, which just says I am a citizen of Canada. As I said, it's not like it's a big deal, but I just kind of noticed it so I thought I'd ask. Biff Loman 17:19, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry

I'm sorry about that inadvertant deletion of an AfD. I was desprately trying to add something to it but to no avail. I followed directions exactly but it wasn't working. Do you have any suggestions for how to correctly add a page?

What I was trying to do involves a vanity page which needs to be suggested for deletion. I think whenever someone has to create a wikipedia page about themselves (as was done in this case) that is suspicious enough. Also having been on tv in some Middle East country before is not a valid reason for being on wikipedia. I see no real reason for it to be on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedat_Laciner
Thank you so much! It has been successfully done, I really appreciate the help! I've always wondered about how to do all that, but have tried and failed in the past. Especially the date/time thing eluded me, now I know! Thanks for the help and now you can see the nomination on the for deletion page. Vartan84 04:17, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Where things are at the moment...

I've already done my electives for this year; so, no Kamel Kamel this summer-- but I'll keep the name in mind. As for working on gastroenterology-- I'm pretty swamped at the moment and the last rotation didn't go as well as I'd liked; so, the time I'll spend here in the next while will probably be working on random articles related to what rotation I'm on. CBC pic

Most physicians I know use a CBC shorthand that includes Hematocrit on the bottom and the notation looks like an "X". Do you have a schematic of that? Ace-o-aces 20:38, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

In the US we typicly use an X. WBC and platlets are in the same place. HgB is on tap an HCT in on the bottom (which is a bit redundant, I admit). MCV, MCH and MCHC are sometimes listed in that order from left to right coming off of the upper right part of the X (at least that's how they taught us at UIC. Honestly, I haven't seen that form of notation very often). Ace-o-aces 20:54, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Crohn's

Dude, this is unbelievable. I have nothing to add - Crohn's should be a featured article by the virtue of your work alone!

One stylistic thing - is there anything we can use instead of boldface to emphasise things? I tend to use italics, although I don't even know if the WP:MOS allows that. JFW | T@lk 07:10, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

This is a great piece of work. On smoking, most sources seem to say that smoking increases the risk of Crohn's. The Pathology section keeps referring to the "colon", which Wkipedia defines as the large intestine". Since Crohn's is usually in the small intestine, at least some of these should be referring to that. Could you check this to make sure you've said it right?M dorothy

WP:FN

Wikipedia style is to put references after punctuation, and never precede them with spaces. As interesting as your articles are, they are a pain to edit for that, so it'd be really nice if you could use the format suggested at WP:FOOTNOTES. I'll try to have a look at Crohn's disease asap. Circeus 17:18, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

While I was at it, I did some editing at Endoscopic foreign body retrieval and left a jargon report on the talk page. Very nice article, btw, with an impressive referencing.
I've skimmed through Crohn's disease and noticed it is very list-heavy. You might want to try and convert several of these list sections into prose. See Cystic fibrosis for a possible example without lists. Circeus 18:12, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Coin in esophagus

I noticed you uploaded this image: [1] with the summary of "PA view Chest X-Ray of Canadian dollar coin in esophagus of child. Released per permission of mother." but the liscence tag lists you as the creator. I'm also slightly concerned because if there was an x-ray tech that tag might be inaccurate. I don't know much about what the rules are for an X-ray, so I'd be happy to hear any clarifications you have and/or burning need to tell me I'm being stupid here. I am not thinking about adminship yet. Maybe a few months down the line. But not yet. I really want to make Ahmedabad FA first. But I seem to have some sort of a block just now. New to Wikipedia... How does it work?

Hi Samir, I'm new to this whole thing. I was adding my pages for boomtrek like below in the correct destinations they were removed because of spam. Is my site not useful? I have mapping of millions of points-of-interest all over the world and I was trying to promote its regional-specific areas applicable to each region.

Am I allowed to add these into Wikipedia? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Boomtrek (talkcontribs) .

Here is an example of what it can do:

Thanks for putting up the direct link, but I really think this is more trouble than it's worth. It's fine if there was just the one instance, but when there's 23 distinct species and several other pages on each, the home page really works best. We've posted an Atlas of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and one of Gastrointestinal Ultrasound on the Internet. I'm beginning now to put some of our pictures into the chapters of wikipedia.de. Unfortunatly our 2 altlases are only in German, but I think a picture is always better the a text. Hi Samir

Hi Samir

Can you please let me know, how to make that article which I wrote appear in the Search?

The article on Rajat Mishra was not intended as a Userpage. I was still working on it, its incomplete.

Actually there were a few articles on this in a few newspapers in India, and lots of Indian sites, so thats why I was adding all that material.

http://news.moneycontrol.com/backends/News/frontend/press_releases.php?autono=209694

http://202.87.40.145/news/innernews.asp?storyId=3134&lmn=1&cat=18

http://agencyfaqs.com/news/company_news/Marketing/8023.html

What is the proper procedure for putting it on wikipedia so that it becomes searchable?

Please do let me know...

Also, is there some page where I can find some simplified information on how to make proper Wikipedia pages? The one on the official page, is not very clear...

Thanks for your help anyway...

Cheers

Interfering with my RfA vote

I would appreciate it if you and/or your friends would stop attempting to change my RfA vote per this [2]. I do not know you and did not know your gender so I chose to avoid making assumptions and instead wrote it as s/he, i.e "she or he". I really don't know why you object to my expressing myself in this way as it is quite common to write various versions of "s/he" when a person is unknown, particularly on the internet where a person's gender is often unclear. The fact this comment has caused you to try to change my comment on more than one occasion makes me question your maturity and whether or not I made the right call when I chose to support your RfA. Please stop attempting to interfere with my vote. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:37, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't offended, just irritated because someone else (an IP) did the same thing but also accused me of being ignorant because I wrote "s/he". I just don't understand why it would be an issue to anyone. But anyway, thanks for you reply and good luck with your adminship. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 05:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm terribly sorry, Samir. I really didn't mean to cause you to feel that way. As I said before, I was just irritated about it and that was mainly because of the comment made by the IP, and not directly because of you. Thanks very much for the birthday wishes--much appreciated. Ceiling cat

The article has been deleted and will be again. I just restored temporarily to illustrate that the uploader of the cat image wasn't a serious contributor, given that the image has been used for vandalism hundreds of times, I nominated the image for deletion, but I needed proof that the uploader isn't serious and thus probably the copyright license was fake. I will remove the article when the IFD finishes. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:IFD#June_19 -- Drini 20:29, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Du Bist

Hello Samir. This article has been nominated for deletion, and I have been requested help from User:BigHaz who feels that the nominator may be trolling/pointmaking, given his previous block for trolling and his bizarre arguments on the AfD. As the person who restarted Eurovision WikiProject (this is a Eurovision song)I think it would be out of order for me to judge the actions of the nominator. Blnguyen | rant-line 03:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

PS. The nom keeps on trying to tell us that the song title needs to be renamed as it is "informal" and is unencyclopedic.Blnguyen | rant-line 03:45, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your block

Samir you were wrong in blocking me. Rajput Chief category is bogus. Do you know the history of rajasthan? Maharana Pratap was no chief. He was an Indian monarch. To call him a chief is working with a denigrating agenda and should not be tolerable to you as an Indian. Similarly ruling clans of India is far more descriptive and accurate for rajput gotra and shakha. It is one person's whim who frankly is a moron when it comes to rajputs and rajasthan that you are supporting. Y not 07:53, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have raised the same issue of wrong categories multiple times. People who are clueless are somehow supported by others who can block people like me (this includes you) without knowing what the matter is. If you would just protect "Dharam" as your signature seems to signify by asking this idiot Impumozhi the same question maybe you will have better luck then me. But do not hold your breath. His response will certainly be idiotic. Y not 08:34, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
You are wrong in reverting the changes that I made today. Why are you not discussing this matter? Y not 08:45, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
(reply on talk page): My knowledge of Rana Pratap is limited to the fact that he was a bold Rajput ruler who rebuffed Akbar and as such, the subtleties of your argument are a little lost to me. I don't necessarily attribute a negative connotation to the word chief, but then again, it is on the previous caveat. Only if you can cite specific documentary evidence to back your claims (that I can evaluate myself, and placed on a relevant talk page) will I consider re-opening the issue. Otherwise, the rolled back edits stand as consensus. Thanks -- Samir धर्म 08:49, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough. Do this

a) open up google and then enter the following as the search string (make sure you enter the double quotes): "rajput king" "maharana pratap"
b) Do same as a) but replace the word king with chief and note how many hits you get.
I got 124 hits for rajput king and 3 hits for the chief search and of these three none were talking about Pratap. Y not 08:56, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Clearly you have read what Mozhi had to say. He is still lying! Rajput side had a few users none of whom were any socks as this fellow is shouting.

  • Sumerendra Chauhan did his masters on rajput history at a canadian university (under Professor O' Connell, a renowned Indologist) and then later went on to take an MD degree, just like yourself, at a Canadian university to become a medical doctor. He has organized multiple camps for destitutes, sherpas etc in Nepal and India.

  • Sisodia is a bonafide rajput whom I do not know.
  • S S India is actually not a rajput but an Indian from Bengal whose last name is Sen and first name starts with an S. He was so pissed at the maligning of rajputs at the hands of muslims, wayward admins and some turncoat Indians that he sided with the rajput side.
  • Digvijay, that is myself , am a trained economist. I have consulted with quite a few fortune 500 companies inclduing world organizations like IMF.

If you would like to read about Impumozhi's lack of knowledge/lying about rajputs please read this: [3] Then see his bizzare behavior on rathore page where he kept deleting references and kep inserting unreferenced template! [4]

Regarding Dbachmann, he is a racist who almost got banned by arbcom for using racist comments against ALL Indians. [5] For this comment arbcom decided to take away Dab's admin privileges [6]. But in the end they could not see one of there own loose to brown Asians. Read more [7] and some more [8]

Also this arbcom case was the most strange case. Entire rajput side were new to Wikipedia and had no idea that they had to present any evidence. So arbcom decided against us purely on Dbachmann's one sided evidence! Can you beleive this?

I followed debate between Nichalp and Shivraj. Nichal is a braiwashed Indian who thinks everything that originates from the mouth of westerner is gospel and that Indians cannot write objective history [9]. Shivraj tried to reason with him that he had created the rajput article after consulting close to a 100 books and these are all written by eminent historians. These historians were Indian, European and American. Some of them are still teaching in Universities all over the world. But impumozhi called these books pamphlets [10] though he has not read a single book in this list. Is this really scholarship that you want to support Samir?

Not only this these fellows are aligning with Muslims who have called all Jihad mongering terrorists of the world Rajputs. Read here : [11] (This above was written by a muslim and mozhi and gang support this group of muslims).

You have also seen wrong categorization on rajput kings by Mozhi in calling them chiefs. Samir I am hopeful that you will not side with these people. If you have more questions do let me know. It saddens me that Indians play to the galleries just to be "accepted".

-Digvijay.

Samir, you should not be complaining, you are in high favour. Of course, the blocking of an account is entirely passe for our friend, but I have rarely seen him so civil -- its evidently because the sign-link to your talk-page reads "Dharm."

I don't know where to begin on the case, especially while avoiding descent into personalities. It is extremely complex, especially when I consider that I initially started out by supporting him in one of his major battles (he has had many: me, Dbachmann n Zora, Paul Barlow, even Nichalp, etc etc; just try finding anything other than loud conflict on his original talkpage). Maybe reading this page, one of my vain attempts to reason with him, will help you get a start both on his mindset and on my problems with him.

At the time when I wrote that message to him, he was prosecuting a quarrel on the talk:Rajput page. That issue reached Arbitration Committee, where I made this statement. This is my definitive crime, please read this and also the links provided by me in that statement. Following this act, I was subjected to surpassingly vile abuse, with section-heading font of "Impumozhi is a liar" being pasted across Wikipedia, with some other write-up. That was the beginning and it has been downhill since. One of my great faults is of course that although I am an Indian, I supported the "Whiteboys" who "talk out of their ass"; that I am a Hindu and insisted on NPOV-ing the more egregious of his edits. Note that your support is also being exhorted on the same grounds: "To call him a chief is working with a denigrating agenda and should not be tolerable to you as an Indian." and again, "If you would just protect "Dharam" as your signature seems to signify by asking this idiot Impumozhi...." I need say no more.

Anyway, the arbcom case (where one side consisted almost exclusively of him and his 3-4 socks) went entirely against him: read this page, other pages it links to, and all associated discussion pages, if you have the leisure and patience. He grandly "resigned" from Wikipedia, and has been infesting it with his sock-a-day accounts since then.

Never never am I gonna start arguing with him on any point, so I will not answer his concerns expressed on your talk-page, except to say that this is the first time he made them known! Also that this is both mealy-mouthed and specious. MM because he has been reverting every edit of mine daily, including entirely unrelated pages like National Physical Laboratory, India, Kannada Brahmins and Konkani Brahmins, among several others. Specious because -- I will not get into that. OK, I will. Read Rao Sonag, Rao Doohad and over a dozen others and tell me if this suits "Monarchs of India." Also note that they are in that category, because Category:Rajput chiefs is a sub-category of Category:Indian monarchs, deserved or not. Same holds for Banaphar, Kheechee etc in relation to Category:Rajput clans and Category:Ruling clans of India.

I will conclude by referring you to the advise I recently gave another well-intentioned user: Do not feed the troll. Your comments so far to him have been exemplary, but give over making them altogether. Simply ignore any further comments by him on your talk-page. In all events, please do not ask or expect me to engage any further with him. If possible, please help me contain his vandalism. Best regards, ImpuMozhi 04:52, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi, here's a list of the socks-at-large, none of which have had any activity except to vandalize my edits, and this is the category of already banned socks. Maybe later, sometime in the future, you could consider doing the needful to help the homeless accounts find a permanent resting-place in the category. I.M. Rich indef block

Hey Samir. I've shortened the I.M._Rich (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) block down to 48 hours, and explained to him that any further acting out will result in the restoration of his long involuntary wikibreak.

I'm not disputing your call that he deserved the block based on his recent behaviour – which can only be described as completely insane – but he seems genuinely remorseful, he has indicated that his actions were prompted by some recent personal problems, and he's expressed a desire go back to being a useful editor.

If, 48 hours from now, he runs amok again, I'm not going to trim whatever block you think is appropriate. (If I haven't blocked him myself.) TenOfAllTrades(talk) 06:09, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear Admin, Thanks for your message. Here is what happend. We had an agreement on the vote we are proceeding. We agreed it is a consensus vote [12].

You could see clearly the question I posted was to ask whether it is a consensus vote. And the answer is yes.

However, user Yueyuen and Samuel Luo does not respect it. They insisted on posting the non-consensus voting results. Both CovenantD [13] and I have tried to remove the vandalism. However, the vandalism is still going on[14][15][16] however we tried to stop it. Please help or advise. Thanks,Fnhddzs 07:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • The discussion was about the deadline which was the subject of the conversation in this subsection called “Deadline for 1st paragraph.” --Samuel Luo 07:48, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I did not understand "if the first consensus opinion was truly consensus, it should be reflected in the straw poll as well", I don't think it is related to my question. People said the vote is a "consensus vote" [17][18], that is, everyone has to agree with a new edition for it to update on the page. It is not a majority vote. We did not have a consensus opinion on the 1st paragraph of the article yet. However, a nonconsensus version was posted. Fnhddzs 07:19, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, we voted on the proposed new version of the 1st paragraph[19]. But not everyone voted agree. So we did not reach to consensus. I do not quite understand 'straw poll'. It sounds like a better idea to wait for each possible editor's opinion. But maybe I am wrong. Fnhddzs 07:28, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

protecting the Falun Gong page

Hi Samir (The Scope), I notice that you just protected the Falun Gong page. The paragraph in question has been discussed for over a week. The version I updated has the majority support when we voted a few hours ago. [20] Fnhddzs is the only one who rejects it even though I have accommodated to all of his complaints. [21] He seems to believe that he alone can prevent any editing on the Falun Gong article. What is the guideline for a situation like this? When something has the overwhelming majority support, is that enough validation for the changes to be made? Or changes can only be made when there is consensus? The protection is nice it gives us some time to discuss the issue further other than fighting a revert war. Thanks --Samuel Luo 07:42, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I request that this be substituted for the 1st paragraph. It is the same wording that exists now, but returns the links to Wiktionary that have existed for months and properly formats the references. These are the only changes from the version that is in place. I've also placed this on the talk page, for any passing admins there. CovenantD 14:49, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for the nice message. Not to worry, I think your actions were appropriate. Indeed, one of my projects for tonight was to send you a note saying that. Since the subject is so contentious and I have done a lot of editing on the article in the past, I feel it would be a conflict of interest for me to exercise any admin functions there beyond blocking the occasional incorrigibly abusive personal attack vandal. DYK update

Hi Samir, thanks for doing the last DYK update, nice selection of articles and hopefully you will continue updating as a "new pair of hands". Just a few minor things to remember: don't forget to archive the previous items from the template to the top of Template_talk:Did_you_know#Archive, including a link to the featured image in parentheses; images hosted on commons should be uploaded locally to WP if they're not protected on Commons, and tagged with the {{C-uploaded}} template; don't forget to actually protect the image and unprotect the previous one that's just been replaced (or speedy delete it if it was C-uploaded). I've fixed these bits and pieces, so no need for you to do anything, just wanted to let you know for your next update !!! Cheers. --Cactus.man 12:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Samir, almost perfect, but don't forget to actually apply the protection to the new featured image as well as adding the relevant protection template. Other than that, looks pretty good. There's also quite a wide ranging series of discussions going on about the whole DYK method, including appropriateness of admins selecting their own entries, suggested changes to the selection process and feedback on non-selected nominations. You may wish to chip in or keep an eye on it, as it may affect how things get done in future. In particular, the comment on non selected nominations seems to be undergoing a sort of trial right now. --Cactus.man 11:23, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unprotect GoldToeMarionette

User talk:GoldToeMarionette (edit | user page | history | links | watch | logs)

Please unprotect User:GoldToeMarionette's talk page since the RfAr concerning the account validated that no policy violation occurred which warranted the block or page protection in the first place [23]. Thank you. PoolGuy 03:14, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm a little uncertain about this. Why are you asking for the talk page of an indefinitely blocked user to be unprotected? -- Samir धर्म 05:56, 23 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I am sorry, my response was removed again before you had a chance to look at it. Hope it is ok to post directly to you since you were so nice initially. Thanks. PoolGuy 03:22, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Samir, the account was inappropriately blocked. The above linked RfAr just closed and confirmed that to be the case. I am also requesting the account to be unblocked, but can't do it on the user talk page because it is protected. This request was removed last night by Admin pgk who is pursuing me and can't accept the result of the RfAr because it proved his falsehoods wrong. I am sorry he removed it before I had a chance to respond to your inquiry. I would be happy to answer more questions, but it should be clear in the RfAr under my evidence. Thanks for taking the time to look at this. It is appreciated. PoolGuy 04:09, 24 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for replying. I don't know what you mean "there is precedent in administrators blocking the talk page of an indefinitely blocked user". I won't talk with Nlu because he is a main cause of my trouble on Wikipedia, plus he doesn't respond. Essentially the account should never have been blocked, and protecting the talk page was Nlu's attempt to prevent me from trying to get it unblocked. The RfAr, I believe, upheld that GoldToeMarionette did not violate policy and shouldn't have been blocked. Unfortunately, Nlu pursued me so mercilessly, and the ArbCom thought I was responsible for disruption, when in reality, Nlu was working as hard as he could to cut off every means of my communicating. PoolGuy 04:19, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a ton!!

Dear Samir, thanks a ton for the medal. Though it may appear self-referential, it would be irreverential ;) to not accept it from a good friend like you. However, to set the record straight, I've been updating DYK very rarely since mid-April. I updated DYK along with Peta, who taught me the ropes of updation. AFAICT, I updated DYK for four months, of which two months was almost an individual effort. However, of late, I don't find too much time in one tranche to do the updating. Also, the atmosphere has become vitiated slightly with one of the admins insisting that he doesn't see a conflict of interest in updating suggestions from his own articles. At least a couple of admins including me strongly object to this (especially given the number of his articles' DYKs) and several others support our stand with the lone dissension coming from that admin. The relevant discussion is here. So, I don't see myself updating DYK anytime sooner. However, i'd probly start creating articles once I get the time. Thanks a ton again, Samir. --Gurubrahma 12:23, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello Samir. You might want to comment at that page above. I think it will lead to a community morale drop if a person chooses their own DYK. By the way, if you're looking for stuff to delete, follow the image pics from the link at CAT:CSD - For today's deletion innings, I've registered a quadruple century - 430 not out- and that's still less than 20% of the backlog I think.Blnguyen | rant-line 06:22, 27 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re:Rfa

Well, I'd look at CSD A7, that says (emphasis added):

An article about a real person, group of people, band, or club that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to AFD instead.

I would then check to see if ABCD is notable. If I see that is true (ABCD has published extensively in his field), I'd leave the page alone and remove the SD tag. If I check the guy wasn't really notable, I would take the page to AfD instead of simply speedy deleting it, as per the CSD A7 statement, and the fact that other people may find publications by ABCD that I might have overlooked, as that often happens in AfD discussions and I'm not too good in google searches, to speak the truth. fetofs Hello! 14:35, 25 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
