 Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Tirishan (talk) 22:01, 28 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, R bnks. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Spector (bass), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 13:06, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Thanks for the advices. I don't have any relationship with the brand or people associated with it. I just know and follow the brand for a long time and know it's history throughout. R bnks (talk) 13:31, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Can you explain why this 'name dropping' is different than this: 'Gretsch - Wikipedia'.? This way I can avoid making the same mistake again. R bnks (talk) 13:35, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's not very different. If you don't have a relationship with the brand, it shouldn't be too difficult to write in a more neutral tone, and avoid promotional content. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 13:10, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes I understand. But I'm talking about the 'name dropping' what is also present on the page I linked to you. R bnks (talk) 13:41, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
I understand. That article is not a good comparison. If you are going to look for articles to compare to, look at Good Articles and Featured Articles--WP:FA and WP:GA. Drmies (talk) 13:42, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Since both pages about a musical instrument, I think it's a good comparison. Both Gretsch and Gretsch drums has 'Players' name dropping. The later has even fewer citation then 'Spector's notable players' so I went ahead and restored that section. R bnks (talk) 16:07, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
No. You can't look at a crappy article and say "ah so this is OK". It's not OK. See WP:OTHERCONTENT. Drmies (talk) 13:32, 5 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Akakievich. I noticed that you recently removed content from Gretsch without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Akakievich (talk) 16:03, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Agentdoge (talk) 19:31, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Please see WP:POINT: that is what you are doing. Copying someone else's edit summaries is also asinine. Drmies (talk) 14:05, 8 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Use the article talk pages

edit

Please don't make major changes to articles without first discussing them and getting consensus on the article's talk page. That's what it's for.

So Gibson EB-0 has an associated talk page at Talk: Gibson EB-0. Depending on your device and browser, this may show up as a tab on the article or a link somewhere (probably the bottom). The link may be labeled "Talk" or "Discussion".

See the essay, WP:PRESERVE. We normally look for references as opposed to removing referenced material.

When I see referencing problems, if I'm busy doing something else, I'll add the [citation needed] template. See Template:CitationNeeded.

Finally, you should definitely see the discussion of your edits at the link posted above. —A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 21:08, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I meant to write "as opposed to removing un unreferenced material". —A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 21:10, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also see WP:POINT. People around here get really put out by POINTY-edits. In light of the COI discussion, your edits come off that way.
We need your help building Wikipedia but you've got to do so collegially. This is a group project. —A. B. (talkcontribsglobal count) 21:25, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
