Your time is now

Hi Philg88, need your help again, please copyedit here. The major work with this draft is over, now it needs your copyediting, some references and some Wikilinks. Many thanks. Let me know if you like the topic. Jim Carter (talk) 07:19, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey Jim Cartar. Sorry, but that article is nowhere near ready for copyediting. It has no lead, no wikilinks, no references and reads like an essay. While I don't mind helping you polish articles ready for the main article space, you do need to do some work yourself beforehand. It's not a topic that inspires me, in fact, I am none the wiser as to who or what Vivekananda was because the article has no context. One last point - do not put messages for specific editors (i.e. me) in the middle of body text, even if it is a user space draft - use the talk page with a ping.  Philg88 talk 07:44, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay I will add the lead by today, references are almost ready, wikilinks take two or three minutes and what should I do with the essay, since this topic was really an essay which I have written years ago, when I was in class 11. Now any suggestions? Jim Carter (talk) 07:53, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
This guideline might be helpful. You basically need to make the text read like an encyclopedia article, not a personal view of the world. You also need to provide some context about Vivekananda in the (currently non-existant) lead. Make sure that what you write syncs with the Vivekananda article to avoid a content fork. Having now read the "Death" section of the Vivekananda article I would question why you don't expand that rather than creating a new article.  Philg88 talk 08:24, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Actually I have enough stuff to create a new article instead of expanding the already existing good article (The draft is already 3356 characters without adding lead and another section). Now I will make those changes by today and tomorrow will be your time. Many thanks. Jim Carter (talk) 08:56, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
I have tried to fix those issues. Please take a look now, it might be ready for copyediting. Thank you. Jim Carter (talk) 14:18, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Jim Cartar. Thanks for the update. A couple of general points:

  • The title should be "Death of Vivekananda", not the euphemism "Passing of".
  • The topic of the article is the death of Vivekananda, yet the lead reads largely as if it is about him, and indeed uses identical references.

More importantly, let me reiterate the point I made above. I don't see the need for a standalone article. Currently Vivekanada is 38K of readable prose in length. Your proposed article is just under 4K (and I'm being generous here and including the duplicated lead), which would make a total of <42K. Per WP:SIZE, 50K is the minimum threshold at which an article should be split. What do you think?  Philg88 talk 14:48, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

So you mean I should merge my draft with Vivekananda? Jim Carter (talk) 15:34, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Yes, when it's ready. I think that's the best way forward rather than creating another article.  Philg88 talk 15:38, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I support this proposal, but isn't the draft is ready now? Jim Carter (talk) 15:50, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

@Jim Cartar: OK, I have copyedited the two relevant and retitled sections—"Decline" and "Death"—which should now be ready to merge with the existing "Death" section in the Vivekananda article, after you fix the one inline request for clarification. Over to you!  Philg88 talk 08:22, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, I will move it to mainspace tomorrow and will place a merge tag over it. Thank you again. Jim Carter (talk) 19:42, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Excuse me for jumping in, Jim, but I don't think that's what Philg88 meant. I think he meant to copy and paste the relevant sections from your draft into the Vivekananda article, WITHOUT creating a new article. Phillg88, your thoughts? --MelanieN (talk) 19:58, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks MelanieN, you are absolutely right. @Jim Cartar: You agreed (above) that there would be no new article. Let me once more go over what needs to happen. The two sections that I helped you prepare need to be merged into the existing "Death" section in the Vivekananda article without losing any of its existing information or references. Before you do that, you need to provide the clarification I mentioned above and disambiguate "Divine Mother", as I don't know which Hindu goddess this refers to. Please don't do anything other than this.  Philg88 talk 05:18, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
Oo... Thanks Melanie and Philg, I will do what you said. Actually I was confused, since this is the first time I'm merging two article, but it's clear to me now. Thanks again. Jim Carter (talk) 06:23, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
You aren't actually merging two articles. You are expanding an existing article, by adding something that you wrote up in your userspace. I do that all the time myself: write something up in my sandbox, paste it into the existing article, and then delete it from my sandbox. In this case you need to find a way to do that without losing any of the information or references that are already in the article. The best way to do that would be to first incorporate the existing material into your draft, and then paste the draft into the article. --MelanieN (talk) 15:26, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

New facts and refs

Hi Philg88! After todays marathon edit there is now a lot more on Einar Jolin. If you would consider helping me out with some additional copy editing, there are some notes on my talk page. No pressure, no time limit, only if you want to and have the time. - W.carter (talk) 23:20, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

No problem my friend. I only have tablet access today and it takes for ever to type anything. I will have a look tomorrow. Best,  Philg88 talk 08:15, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! :) Have a glorious day AFK. - W.carter (talk) 09:36, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
@W.carter:   Done with a couple of requests for clarification.  Philg88 talk 09:49, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll look at the requests and hope I can clarify them. - W.carter (talk) 09:54, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Should be straightforward with your skills. BTW I worked out who GAN is - it might be better to use his full name rather than the abbreviation. Best,  Philg88 talk 09:59, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

So, #1: Gösta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN) is mentioned in the previous section along with the abbreviation of his name. He was called this during his lifetime since his name is long and cumbersome to say and his initials form a new, easier name. The original text alternates between these two. For clarification I put a link at this place as well, but I can substitute this with his full name if that is more appropriate. #2 This is a sentence from the original, rather exuberant, text. I managed to find the source in Palmgren and an article supporting it, but it just doesn’t add anything to the article and is very superflorious so I simply removed it. (So much for my skills...) There is no need for two pompous quotes from Palmgren on top of each other. Are there other clarification requests? Have I missed something?

I must say that the language you conjure up is simply beautiful! With just a couple of small tweaks you make it flow so easy. And you really have a knack for finding just the right word. - W.carter (talk) 10:45, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Using GAN if it was the common term is no big deal and it's always a sound idea to remove pompous/superfluous assertions as they add nothing. As for my language, well that's the result of a misspent youth and many hours of copyediting practice :).  Philg88 talk 10:57, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
...and modest too. :) Well, unless you have any suggestions I think I'm done "translating" this article for now. The rest is up to some hardcore researcher. Would it be ok if I pinged you when I have the next article cooking? - W.carter (talk) 11:36, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
@W.carter: Einar is looking good - time to move on to your next challenge. It would be my pleasure to work with you again so let me know when you have something concrete. Best,  Philg88 talk 13:01, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Jianye District

Hi,

Thanks for your response about New River / Hexi New City!

When looking at the very helpful statistics link you've provided, I've taken a stab at matching the statistical places to Jianye District#Subdistricts and think I may have made progress with some matches. But I've got some places without a matching subdistrict and vice versa.

Statistics places to subdistricts
  • 320105001000 莫愁湖街道 - Mochouhu street == Binhu Subdistrict (滨湖街道) - appears to be Lake Street / in the northeast portion of the district, near and/or including Mochou Lake, map
  • 320105002000 沙洲街道 - sandbar street == Shazhou Subdistrict (沙洲街道) same Chinese name, map of sd
  • 320105003000 双闸街道 - Shuangzha street == Shuangzha Subdistrict (双闸街道)
  • 320105004000 江心洲街道 - Jiangxinzhou street == ?
  • 320105006000 兴隆街道 - booming street / Xinglong Street == Xinglong Subdistrict (兴隆街道) same Chinese name
  • 320105007000 南苑街道 - Nanyuan Street == Nanyuan Subdistrict (南苑街道)
  • 320105400000 建邺区新城科技园 - Jianye Metro Technology Park == ?
  • 320105401000 建邺区河西中央商务区 - Jianye Hexi CBD, which includes Nanjing International Expo Center == ?
  • 320105402000 建邺区江东商业文化旅游中心区 - Jianye District Jiangdong commercial and cultural tourism center == ?
  • 320105403000 New Nanjing Eco-Technology Island == Jiangxin Island, the Jiangxinzhou Subdistrict (江心洲街道)
Subdistricts from List of township-level divisions of Jiangsu
  • Nanhu Subdistrict (南湖街道) — appears to be South Lake Street / source said Nanhu is southwest of the city (assume downtown), is a village of typical workers, with concentrations of people living in poverty.[4] == ?
  • Binhu Subdistrict (滨湖街道) - appears to be Lake Street / in the northeast portion of the district, near and/or including Mochou Lake - assuming   Done
  • Jiangxin Island, the Jiangxinzhou Subdistrict (江心洲街道)   Done
  • Nanyuan Subdistrict (南苑街道) - assuming   Done
  • Shazhou Subdistrict (沙洲街道) - assuming   Done
  • Shuangzha Subdistrict (双闸街道) - assuming   Done
  • Xinglong Subdistrict (兴隆街道) - assuming   Done

Do you have any insight into this?

Thanks so much your link has been a HUGE help!==CaroleHenson (talk) 06:48, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Carole, thanks for the message and glad I could help. I would trust the official statistics website more than I would the existing Jianye District list. In other words, I'd use a referenced list above speculative content.
A couple of general points regarding Chinese places. Jiedao (街道) always means subdistrict in administrative terms (see Subdistricts of the People's Republic of China). It is generally not a good idea to try and translate the Chinese names into English (excluding things like CBD), instead use the pinyin followed by unbracketed Chinese characters wrapped in the {{zh}} template. As an example:
*[[Shazhou|Shazhou Subdistrict]] {{zh|c=沙洲街道|labels=no}}
produces:
Note that for mainland China that "c" will sometimes be an "s" if the traditional characters are different.
There is some useful updated material in the Chinese style guide and its associated naming conventions if you haven't read them recently.
Best,  Philg88 talk 07:26, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! Sure, I'll use the convention you mentioned above.
Based on your comments, I'll update the table to just have one column for place and remove subdistrict. I'm not sure what to do with Hanhu subdistrict. Are you saying that the list on this site is speculative?
--Thanks, again! Your help is adding great clarity on these series of articles about Nanjing!--CaroleHenson (talk) 07:40, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea.

Not sure what you mean by "Hanhu" subdistrict? Did you mean "Nanhu"? If it's not on the official list I would leave it out. About xzch.org in general: It's a useful source of information but it doesn't publish official settlement data, which is why the government stats website trumps it for reliability as a source. Such websites are often out of date or contain conflicting information depending on where they got it from.
I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have about handling China-related style/content issues.  Philg88 talk 08:14, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Not sure what's going on here.

I noticed that some time ago you reverted this user who was removing Simplified Chinese without an edit summary. I've noticed that this user has had a long history of removing Simplified Chinese and Pinyin from Hong Kong-related articles, without any explanation within the edit summary or article talk page. I'm suspecting that this user may not be acting in good faith. Just to let you know, in case you notice him again further continuing this sort of editing in the future. --benlisquareTCE 13:15, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up benlisquare. I haven't seen the user in question for a while. Perhaps the the Chinese style guide needs to be beefed up to emphasise that there is nothing wrong with having simplified characters in Hong Kong related articles. A gentle talk page reminder probably wouldn't go amiss. Best,  Philg88 talk 14:02, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Questions to help create a new article

TPTB (talk) 14:35, 13 May 2014 (UTC)Hi Philg88,

Thank you for your answer. I just wanted to ask you another question. What happens if I want to write about the history of a magazine. Can I use information from the magazine's website. I'm talking about stuff like milestones or important events that occured over the years.

I hope it's ok that I posted here and I also hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks.TPTB (talk) 14:35, 13 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi TPTB and don't worry – it's fine to post here. To answer your question, Wikipedia works on the principle of coverage in reliable and independent third party sources, i.e. those not directly connected with the article. By that token, references in a magazine to an article about the magazine itself are self-referential and therefore do not count. Generally speaking, a topic that is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia will have a number of qualifying references. Sometimes it can be frustrating if these can't be found or don't exist, but that is an indication that the topic does not merit attention. If the magazine you refer to is well-established and well-regarded, you should have no problem finding suitable references. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Couple of Manual of Style questions

Hi,

I appreciate your offer to ask further questions about creating articles about China. I've been going through the MOS-ZH link you provided and will likely be absorbing the content over a couple of days. There were a couple of questions that came to mind:

  • Under what circumstances would you use the linking to Wiktionary, such as the example {{zh|c={{linktext|中国}}}}?
  • Is there a general consensus or school of thought about using ruby characters?

I am a little confused by the Romanisation section and accompanying link, but have been more mindful with your direction about seeking out text that uses the Chinese character and text... so that hopefully I'm getting content that is more likely to accurately show the English translations. Pinyin use and formatting is over my head at the moment. Any comments about this would be appreciated, though, like how concerned I need to be about this right now, etc.

Thanks!--CaroleHenson (talk) 04:14, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Carole, welcome back! I don't use Chinese Wiktionary links for the following reasons:
  • Most of the Chinese characters used on Wikipedia are in the context of place or personal names. There isn't a great deal that a dictionary can add to that and, particularly for personal names, links to individual characters are more likely to confuse than enlighten. Another set of examples be things like peach, where it is inherently obvious what the Chinese characters mean.
  • In some cases, where a Chinese word is important to a topic, it will have its own article or will redirect, for example jinshi (進士), hong (行) or xunfu (巡抚), so a dictionary link is superfluous.
  • If a definition is important and there is no article, then I would use this type of construction: "Guangdong Customs Supervisor (粵海关部监督; Yuehai guanbu jian du)", rather than link each individual character to Wiktionary.
As for Ruby annotations, they look pretty but should be used sparingly to avoid clutter and confusion. I've only seen them (rarely) used in articles on poetry or classical literature as they don't add much more than the tone marks displayed with properly formatted pinyin.
Hope this helps. Best,  Philg88 talk 08:42, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! Yes, that does help!--CaroleHenson (talk) 14:05, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Copyedit Request

While searching in the Internet, I recently found the article Kingdom of Tanur. It is a small city-state in south-western India prevailed during the period of Portuguese domination of the Indian Ocean. The article was full of factual errors and was very poorly sourced from out-dated books. I made all the factual changes needed, and now I want to check the article on grammar.

Please improve the grammar (and other areas) of the article. I am ready clear any doubts on local history. I also like to change the title of the article to "Kingdom of Tanur" from "Vettathunad".

Timeline for Einar.

Hello again! Right now I am studying the best articles on painters to get a better understanding of how a really great article should be written. While reading El Greco I came across a nice timeline template. Since there is a written timeline on Einar Jolin in Liljevalchs I thought it would be nice to have this as a similar timeline in the article. So I have converted it to Einar. The Liljevalchs timeline ends at 1957 so I have added to it from the other books. It is in my sandbox and I guess I just have to move it to {{Template:Timeline of Einar Jolin's life}} in order to use it in the article. Or...?? Anyhow, I was wondering if you would be kind enough to take a look at the first draft in the sandbox? At your convenience, of cause. - W.carter (talk) 21:45, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello, W.carter and thanks for the message. I've made a few small copyedits to the timeline. The easiest way to move this is to search for Template:Timeline of Einar Jolin's life. You will see an option that says, "You may create ...." so just click on it then copy and paste your text before saving the file. Note that if you want the same behavior as in the El Greco article you will need a second template to provide the info bar across the bottom of the page with the "timeline" option. Otherwise, the template will be displayed in its entirety by default, which is not good style. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 05:01, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Many Thanks Master Yoda! Thanks for the tip about the "You may create..." shortcut. I did not think that was a totally legit way of making the template. I suppose the two colons in your text is just a typo and not the way to write templates. And, Yes, I plan to use the second template to make the box collapsible. I may not be very good at reading instructions but I really like to dissect articles to see what makes them work, and sometimes that involves going in layer after layer of text and templates. Best - W.carter (talk) 14:57, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Done I tried out several places for the box, and this seemed the best alternative. (With the refs and you get a single column reflist, below at the Bibliography and it seems lost and out of contest. A new section for it just looked silly.) But suggestions are welcome. - W.carter (talk) 15:27, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Welcome you are, young Padawan. In watching you develop as master Wikipedia editor, much pleasure take I. Maybe left justify the box and put it after the external links per the style guide, even though it's not strictly speaking a navbox? (And the colon was a typo, vapourised with my light sabre). Best,  Philg88 talk 16:13, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Well, I'm not an Editor yet..."But I've learned so much." Moved the box, it looks better and does not displace any text when opened. From a purely aesthetic point of view it also looks like a "foundation" for the article, a finish line. The two refs in the box "fell out" of the usual reflist so I put in a new reflist for them. They might be redundant, but since the timeline is based on a timeline in a book it might be ok to mention. Or do they simply look misplaced? - W.carter (talk) 17:29, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Give it time my friend As for Einar, I have commented out the second set of references—I can find nothing that says timelines must be referenced and the <Timeline> framework doesn't support wikicode—because it looks ugly. I have also extended the infobar to the full width of the page. Feel free to change things back if you don't agree. Best,  Philg88 talk 05:44, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Much better! I was just a little nervous about putting in unreferenced material. There was however some new interesting info in the book version of the timeline that I had to ignore due to the lack of space in the diagram. I'll just put that in the text instead. Also thanks for all these conversations, I enjoy them very much, and I have also noticed that they help me improve my English. My spelling does not "shine so red" when I type anymore. - W.carter (talk) 09:30, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
@W.carter: I think that as long as the accompanying article text (with references) supports what it says in the timeline, no one could have grounds on which to challenge it. As for your language skills, I know one perhaps one word of Swedish, so your fluency in English is something to be proud of. Mind you, at the moment there's Chinese, Turkish and German text on this page so a few words of Swedish wouldn't be out of place. Best,  Philg88 talk 09:40, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Hej Kompis,(Hello my friend) Well, the translation is not accurate word for word, but it carries the same meaning on the same level. Since you are familiar with languages I'm sure you know that we tend to greet others with very different words. Not knowing Swedish is no great loss. It's such a boring language, unpoetic, crude and contains so few words compared to English. Our heritage is slaughtering others (see Vikings and don't believe everything you read about them being "just peaceful traders") and farming. So not much in the way of improving the language. But since you know Chinese you just might pull of pronouncing Swedish words. We also rely on "tones" in the word for correct meaning. It's the way you say the word that defines the meaning. Japanese people usually have no trouble speaking Swedish. Most others calls it "singing". Sorry, way of topic!:) Ha det bra,(Best) - W.carter (talk) 11:29, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Spratly Islands dispute

Hi! I not sure about the usefulness of the Timeline section - as it is evolving, it just seems to be a repetition of the body of the article. (But without references!) I can see value in a timeline section which is a chronological summary and/or cross-reference, but not one that duplicates the article.

What are your thoughts? Pdfpdf (talk) 10:22, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there Pdfpdf, I was thinking about turning that into a <timeline> that is hidden by default. In that way, people can look at it for a summary if they're interested. In doing that, the references can be skipped (the timeline tag doesn't support Wikicode), provided of course the facts presented are corroborated by the article. Thanks for all your work on this, by the way. Nice to have a balanced editor on the case!  Philg88 talk 10:31, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
I'm glad you think so. (I just made the mistake of looking at the Spratly Islands page - I think I'll stay well away from that one!) Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 06:10, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
BTW: How do you think "The History of the Spratly Islands" should be handled. (At the moment there's an editor wanting to place multiple copies of the same text in at least two articles ... ) It seems to me that some of it would be appropriate in Spratly Islands, and some of it in Spratly Islands dispute, in which case there would be a large overlap, (i.e. duplication), and endless ongoing editwars. Do you think a separate History of the Spratly Islands article would work? (At the moment, it redirects to Spratly Islands.) Pdfpdf (talk) 06:10, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
As you've no doubt noticed, there is a lot of ping-pong POV pushing involved in the Spratly Island articles, which is why we started a separate "dispute" article in the first place. A third "history" article is a good suggestion but what worries me is that we're going to end up with content forks, particularly given the potential overlap between "dispute" and "history" as they are inextricably interwined. Maybe the timeline could be a separate article instead?  Philg88 talk 06:46, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

But, I've strong doubt that it is right (even if I agree, that the information of the 2 km deep inclined shafts is reported). I think the shafts are 2 km long, but not as deep. I found some literature about the geology of the region and started a talk in German. May be, you want to make a note to the graphics as I did. Anka Friedrich (talk) 14:19, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Danke für die Nachricht, Anka Friedrich. I'm waiting for a Turkish speaking editor to confirm the cause of the fire, whereupon I will change the graphic. I will also take the German Wiki talk page comments into account at that stage. Best,  Philg88 talk 16:21, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
I had a look at many turkish websites (although my Turkish is not good), I often found the trafo-version, even at the website of the regional governement, where the mine is located. But the oparating company states the trafo was not the source and investigations would go on.
I found a 3d graphic probably based on yours (stating source: wikipedia, mining-technology.com, university of wisconsin on mouseover at the right down corner) [1]
Conserning the depth of the shafts: tr:wikipedia writes 400 and 800 Meters according to a turkish source „Trafo patlamasından yol açtığı belirtilen yangın maden girişinin 400 metre kadar altında çıktı; işçilerin büyük bir bölümü ise 800 metre derinlikte mahsur kaldı.“ (trafo explosion 400 m down from entry, workers 800 m deep). --Anka Friedrich (talk) 20:39, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
I found an infograhic from Anadolu agency on [2] (down at the site is a biger one) see original at [3]. Anka Friedrich (talk) 22:59, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
To editors Anka Friedrich and Rapsar: Not sure how we should proceed now. I can recreate the graphic based on the second link above or should we wait until more details emerge?  Philg88 talk 09:42, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
First we should remove the one we have so that others don't use it. --Anka Friedrich (talk) 11:21, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
OK, I'll leave you to remove it.  Philg88 talk 12:31, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
I can't, I'm not administrator. Anka Friedrich (talk) 13:34, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the graphic is now in use across nine Wikis. I'm not going to request deletion based on the disruption that would cause, so instead I will create a new version based on the latest information and upload that. Best,  Philg88 talk 04:35, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Haikou New East Bridge

Hello, my friend. Long time. :)

I'm trying to add specs to the article sourced from the image. The middle stuff about 30X32 etc and 60+90+30 blah blah has me totally confused. I have no idea what it means. If you have a mo', a bit of help would be great. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:00, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Indeed my friend :). I trust all is well.
That is a horribly written sign, but the middle section:
全桥由主桥和两岸引桥组成,跨径布置为: (3x32m+3x32m) 组合箱梁+ (60m+90m+90m+60m) 连续梁+ (4x32m+4x32m+5x32m) 组合箱梁。
IMHO translates to:
The overall bridge span between the two banks is made up of two sets of three 32 metre long box girders linked to four single beam sections of 60, 90, 90 and 60 metres in length, which in turn connect to two sets of four 32 metre long box girders joined to five 32 metre long box girders.
I've passed under that bridge on my way to the Qionghai Strait for some fishing and as I recall there were an awful lot of girders visible from the water, which seems to fit. Best,  Philg88 talk 05:08, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much for this. You really helped me out of a jam. Oh, and that is some sweet copy. May I add it to the article verbatim? :)
Under? Fishing? Nice! You know the old saying "If you give a man a beer, he will talk with you about sitting in a boat and fishing all day." It's deep, very deep. :) Oh, and I saw people processing their catch on the shore. They all had nets full of teeny little fish and nothing big. I fear there is nothing left near the shore to catch except babies growing up and not getting the chance.
Best wishes and thank you again. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:21, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Ahh ... The fish get bigger halfway to Guangdong. Feel free to use the copy as you see fit. Take care and all the best,  Philg88 talk 11:38, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:46, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

Teahouse

Totally trivial point, but I am Cullen328. There is an inactive editor called Cullen, but that's not me. Take care. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 07:15, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Profuse apologies, my friend. It was a blue link on the page preview so I didn't notice. Duly noted. Best,  Philg88 talk 07:33, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Please type your message title here

Hi Philg88

I noticed that you made an edit to the recent "CAF - development bank of Latin America" to "CAF - Development Bank of Latin America." From what I've seen, they don't capitalize the "D" and the "B" since its not an acronym. However, Latin America is capitalized because it is a proper noun. If you could revert the name to the original move (CAF - development bank of Latin America), I'd really appreciate it.

Many thanks!

SRLMSRLM (talk) 16:50, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi SRLM and thanks for your message. The capitalisation after my move is correct per the logo at the bank's official website and the title used for a presentation by the bank to UNCTAD. There are also numerous other examples on other websites. That means that that the article title follows Wikipedia's brand name, titling and common name policies. Lower case also looks odd, but that carries no weight. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 17:09, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Philg88,

When I click on Google it doesn't take me straight to the article, but instead to a page where it says the article can has been moved. Then, there is the link to the new page with the new name. Is there a way to fix this? This did not occur when the name was changed a first time.

Many thanks!

SRLM (talk) 18:47, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi SRLM. It was to do with the way Wikipedia handles redirects after a move. It's fixed now. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 18:57, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Thank you!!

Hi Philg88, Thank you so much for your help with the HZO article! It looks like another editor reviewed it after your edits, and approved it for publication. Your edits definitely made the difference in it's publication. Thanks again! Cosette Cosettej (talk) 15:46, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

You're more than welcome, Cosette. It was your hard work that created the article, I just fixed it up a bit for you.  Philg88 talk 16:31, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Some copyediting?

Hey Philg, how are you my friend? I need some help. Recently I was improving this article. Now it is in better condition. I have removed unsourced materials, unreliable references added few refs and now it is ready for GA. But it needs your copyediting. The article is very large it took me 2 days to complete my work, hence NO time limit. Please help me. BTW ping me when you reply, nowadays I'm having short-term memory loss :P. Many thanks. Jim Carter (talk) 11:42, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Jim Cartar and thanks for the message. That article doesn't appear to need copyediting; instead it seems ready for GA review submission. You might want to look at improving Irrfan Khan next. He is my favourite Indian actor - Paan Singh Tomar is an awesome film. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 05:28, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Sure, I will. Irrfan Khan is also my fav actor. And PST is also my fav film. I will improve both the article.
BTW are you sure that Shahrukh Khan article is ready for GA. Jim Carter (talk) 06:41, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
A quick scan tells me that it appears to fit the requirements for a GA but only a review will definitively determine that. And before you ask ... the answer is no. :)  Philg88 talk 06:47, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Then who can review? Should I nominate it for GA? Actually I'm afraid to do this myself. O.o Jim Carter (talk) 07:15, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
To find a reviewer follow the instructions given on the page I linked to above. What are you afraid of? No one is going to criticize you for proposing an article for GA and you're quite capable of doing it.  Philg88 talk 07:25, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Okay thanks for your help. I will do it. Jim Carter (talk) 08:06, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

How did you find about the village pump proposal by Anna Frodesiak? Jim Carter (talk) 17:14, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey Jim Cartar I can see that you're under pressure from some quarters, but what's the issue here?  Philg88 talk 17:35, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Nothing much big... Just checkout all the admins in English Wikipedia's user talk page. You will find a common message about Anna's proposal at there user talk page which was send by me. Actually I send a message to all the admins in Wikipedia. And now they are thinking to block me. Because they initally thought I was using MMS for spamming purpose but now it was all clear. They have understand that I have used it assuming good faith. By the way Anna's proposal is going to be the biggest ever discussion on Wikipedia within the next few days. Thanks for adding your comments to an history making huge discussion.   Jim Carter (talk) 18:21, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

The RfA opinion page thing

Thanks for sharing your views. I agree with you and the other opposes. In fact, the absence of responses (before the fiasco) spoke volumes: 'not a lot of support'. Now I know why. The whole idea now seems like creating a new government agency: more red tape, bureaucracy, a back page keystroke magnet, and hard to dismantle if not working out.

My definition of a lousy two days: Futian Checkpoint twice and coming home to this embarrassing fiasco. Anyway, a little red wine and a few episodes of Black Adder should help. :) All the best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:05, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Oh dear! Must be visa time then :) Had I known you were away I would have nipped "messagebotgate" in the bud, but the storm has now blown over anyway. Enjoy Baldrick and the boys! Cheers,  Philg88 talk 04:14, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Hello Brebre9851 and welcome back to my talk page! Let me know some more details and I will try to help you if I can.  Philg88 talk 04:20, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Suspicious Hong Kong promotional articles

Hi Phil! I notice you've been pretty active sending Hong Kong articles to AfD. There's something disturbing that I noticed about most of those articles, as they seem to be pretty similar in style and format. I suspect some kind of paid advocacy company could be behind them (no substantial proof though). Can you come share your thoughts at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Hong_Kong#Promotional_articles? (I don't know if there's anyone watching that board though...) _dk (talk) 04:09, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Sidetracked

Hello my friend! Long time no talk. I have not abandoned my project with the art articles. But, while waiting for some more books before I started I thought I might just expand some Swedish stubs with translations. So far so good, until I translated my favorite place in our little island Ljugarn along with the Template:Gotland County and everything... and found myself in a quagmire of disambigous names, red links and whatnots!! This was partially due to the weird language we speak here, but also because some astronomer with a sense of humor has named a bunch of asteroids after places on the island. See e.g. Mästerby <sigh> Talk about getting sidetracked! But I made the mess so it's only fair that I clean it up. I have fixed Fole, Vamlingbo and am currently working on Kräklingbo. It will take some time before it is all sorted out, but I will get there. The articles will be relatively small, nothing fancy, but they are still better than on SweWiki. I thought about asking you to check them out if you have the time, and I would really appreciate it, but it seems that these small articles have attracted the attention of WikiGnomes, so mabye it's ok anyhow. When this is all done I will certainly get back to my right habitat in the art section.

A small question: When we let Einar Jolin go, did we/you/I submit it for review or was this done automatically giving it the start classification it now has, or is it waiting for review or something? I have been hanging around the Teahouse listening in on other conversations so things are not as foggy now for me as they were back then,^^ so I was just wondering. All the best - W.carter (talk) 19:13, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey Kompis (I hope I remembered that correctly), good to see you back here. Funnily enough, I met a delegation from Gotland in China one time. They gave me a stone sheep (not a full size one, obviously), which I still have. I'd never heard of the place before that. Anyway, back to the point. I have made some minor tweaks to Ljugarn, bear in mind that at the moment the Accomodation section is marginally on the wrong side of Wikipedia is not a directory / Wikipedia is not a travel guide. Fole Vamlingbo (minor tweak to that one) look fine.
As for Einar, you moved the draft to main space on May 7 after we discussed it on the talk page. Only pages that were created via AfC are reviewed. What happens in other cases is that either the user has autopatrolled rights, whereby a new article is not flagged as such, or for non-autopatrolled editors, Wikignomes called new pages patrollers cast their well-trained eye over it for obvious problems. Since there were none the new page flag was removed by someone. Cheers  Philg88 talk 05:12, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Quite correct Kompis. Ahhh... Once again you make my dabble look good. My favorite word in English is "eloquent", and I think it describes you very well. Well, Gotlanders tend to get around.^^ It is THE Viking place in Sweden, we can't dig anywhere without stumbling across some treasure with artifacts from some distant corner of the world. No travel guide. Check. The more I edit the more I find that I am better of if I steer clear of the SweWiki and only use it as a kind of reference. Kräklingbo is done if you would like to check it. It contains a lot of firefighter lingo so it was really a struggle. I am moving on to the rest of the "asteroid-articles". These pages already exists but are now disambiguation pages so they really needs fixing. But I could use some advice as to the rest of all these small places mentioned in the Template:Gotland County. At the moment they will only result in small stub articles. But Gotland is really growing as a prime tourist target. The harbors are expanding to accommodate all the giant cruise ships from all over the world since the Baltic sea is one of the few safe (conflict free) seas left. I deal with 4-5 languages on a daily basis (no, not all my language skills are on display at my user page) so there is great interest in the island. (We have a saying here: "Move to Gotland, learn Japanese.") So, should I make a lot of stubs or should I remove the brackets and make them more anonymous for now? - W.carter (talk) 09:45, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Hello Kompis, sorry for the delay in replying but I was offline most of yesterday. I have copyedited Kräklingbo, no major problems there. As regards {{Gotland County}}, the red links aren't an issue - there is no deadline for the completion of Wikipedia and assuming that these places could be verified if so required, they can stay where they are as stubs are gradually created. Cheers,  Philg88 talk 05:06, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Absolutely no need to apologize for tardiness my friend. It is a healthy sign that you have a life outside the Wiki. Quote You: "there is no deadline" for copyediting the articles I work with. And I really hope you will let me know if you do not feel like CE any of them. I do not take your help for granted. I am still as grateful and awestruck by your skills as the first time you helped me out, and patiently introduced me to the experience of Wiki. I will make the stubs of Gotland my little pet project and turn the red links blue one article at the time, while I work on the next big art article. I know most of the info on Gotland by heart so no great effort to know what to write. Best! - W.carter (talk) 18:51, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your participation

Philg88, I would like to take this moment and thank you for taking part in my RfA that happened a while ago.
