UAA and other areas

Hi Perry. I'm very concerned about your involvement at UAA and other back office areas of Wikipedia. We've spoken before about this and I strongly advised you to spend more time learning the ropes and focusing on content and mainspace. I'm concerned enough that I am pondering whether a partial block from the Wikipedia namespace may be required at some point. You are making comments at UAA that are not appropriate or in line with how those boards are processed. Leave it to the experienced clerks and admins. -- ferret (talk) 15:43, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello ferret, I apologize for my contributions to the Wikipedia Namespace, I appreciate you not blocking me instantly for them. I will take your advice to heart. Once again, thank you. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 15:52, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Hi Perry, this comment is helpful for neither Tamzin nor the community. I am very worried that you are not listening to the advice of experienced community members such as Ferret and that it is going to lead to your removal from the project. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 10:02, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
@Guerillero Hello. This comment here was for clarification and was made in good faith as I explained in that very same thread. @Guerillero PerryPerryD Talk To Me 15:05, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

A food court (in Asia-Pacific also called food hall or hawker centre) is generally an indoor plaza or common area within a facility that is contiguous with the counters of multiple food vendors and provides a common area for self-serve dinner.

Good faith

Hi, PerryPerryD! I personally think you can't have too much good faith. This essay is the approach I try to use in vandalism reverting. Happy editing :) Perfect4th (talk) 18:45, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Perry: I'd have reverted and warned as vandalism, but it was also unnecessary to call out Perfect4th. Test or vandalism, the edit and warning were issued and the user is notified of the problem. -- ferret (talk) 18:49, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Revert

I'd like your views on why this edit was "Unconstructive"? Note, I'm not saying it shouldn't be reverted. There are many reasons to revert plot adjustments and changes. But in this specific case, you labelled it as an unconstructive edit, why? -- ferret (talk) 15:29, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Uncited Claims, Something seemed very suspiscious about "Costa sexually harasses whilst also inviting her to his next party instead of apologizing on live TV.", the entire addition revolves around an entirely newly added character. The edit felt extremely wrong, and without sources, shouldnt be in the article. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 15:31, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Plots are almost never cited, as it's assumed to be primary sourced to the work itself. For the sake of this exercise, I've verified that all of the changes are actually correct. Now that said, they aren't important changes and aren't necessary for the reader to understand the plot, so a revert is probably fine. My point is more about the assumption of bad faith without evidence and the flawed rationale that it was an "unsourced" edit, as this is a plot and it is expected. -- ferret (talk) 15:44, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
You are absolutely correct, and that was a mistake on my part. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 15:52, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

The edit warring template you sent me

You warned me about edit warring. Looks like you forgot to warn the other edit warring party User:PeeJay. I.e. the one who violated 3RR, refused to self-revert, got reported, and made a FIFTH revert all inside of two or so hours. I neither breached 3RR and two other editors have disagreed with him bringing the total of people he was warred with up to three. Any particular reason you didn't send him a warning? --Marching on Leeds (talk) 16:22, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

He did send me a warning, after the issue was already resolved. – PeeJay 16:26, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
@Marching on Leeds Warning was removed by PeeJay himself, warning was issued as standard. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 19:22, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Re: warnings

Hi mate, thanks for the message. Yes, I've taken them to heart. I've also noticed myself getting a little sucked into things on here recently, so I'm going to make a concerted effort to get less involved for a little while. – PeeJay 20:56, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry clarification

Hi Perry. Some IPs, especially from mobile phone companies, are extremely dynamic. These regular IP changes are outside of the control of the user and are therefore not an example of sock puppetry. For cases of regular IP vandalism of an article, please ask at requests for page protection for the article to be semied for a bit.

In #UAA and other areas you were counseled to focus on the main space instead of the back areas of Wikipedia while you learn our processes. It feels like you are not listening to the advice and continuing to charge into the more meta areas of the project with abandon and creating disruption in the process. Please engage in some work towards Wikipedia's goal and spend less time treating Wikipedia as a social network. Failing to do this will probably result in a block of some sort. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 18:35, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Perry, where is your mainspace editing? I see about two edits in the last week to mainspace, one being an unexplained revert of a grammar correction and the other the removal of a start and age template. -- ferret (talk) 18:37, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
Right now Im still awaiting my GA Review and trying to find other video game articles to edit, right now its actually pretty barren. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 19:13, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
What's barren? I review dozens of edits to video game articles every day. -- ferret (talk) 19:15, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
Trying to find video game articles that arent either on a topic I know jack about, or ones that are pretty much already at FA Status. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 19:16, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
What's a game you play or are interested in? -- ferret (talk) 19:17, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
Actually i've been interested in games for the Nintendo 3ds, I think i'll focus on that, I actually just remembered a game that isnt GA yet that would be perfect. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 19:21, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
@Ferret @PerryPerryD Sorry for chiming in, but I have to say. Looking for sources for video games that you know a lot about is hard, especially for new games(My draft as an example.) I just feel as though I know so much about what is actually going to happen but the source is unreliable. SoyokoAnis - talk | PLEASE PING 13:55, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
@SoyokoAnis Sources for Danganronpa Decadence are plentiful. You just haven't availed yourself to resources that have been pointed out to you like WP:VG/S. Metacritic alone lists at least 6 vetted reliable source reviews that you haven't included. -- ferret (talk) 14:08, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
@Ferret Thank you so much, on Monday I'll start using the sources you provided. This may help me get it published. 2601:CD:281:BDE0:297E:C0E4:CE38:B96D (talk) 02:29, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Misquote of 3rr?

I'm not sure what you mean by "regardless of 3rr" here in this diff. The mistake lies with you regardless for reverting unexplained the first time. Either sentence however would have been perfectly fine, no readers were going to be confused in this case. I'm continuing to be concerned on whether or not your mainspace editing can improve. Have you attempted to find a mentor? -- ferret (talk) 12:50, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

I was editing while fatigued, a horrible mistake, I thought my edit would have been violating 3rr, because for some reason my brain decided to forget how counting works. My editing can absolutely be improved, and I have not tried finding a mentor, But I have been studying the editing strategies of other editors such as panini. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 14:23, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

What do you want to accomplish on Wikipedia?

Perry,

What is it you want to accomplish as an editor on Wikipedia? Why are you removing the history of a failed GA from Talk:Wii U? And I noticed you edited the same 9 year old closed GA review (back in March). Just over the breadth of my watchlist, each day I stumble into a place where you're editing in a way that, while good faith, is disruptive. Every prompt and effort to guide you seems to not result in any action or change.

What is it you want to be doing? Wikipedia shouldn't be treated as a social site. It's not a forum or a place to discuss topics or just socialize around them. Even if you're just gnoming about fixing minor things that someone else might believe is pointless, or just reverting obvious vandalism and taking the pressure off other patrollers a little, the goal is to improve the encyclopedia. -- ferret (talk) 14:16, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

The removal was because arent old GAR's supposed to go into Article Milestones? Also I didnt edit the GA Review, I just removed the failed notice from the talk page. But thats all excuses isnt it.
My goal on Wikipedia is to edit VG Articles for the better of the community. I am absolutely not intending to use Wikipedia as a social platform. Your descriptor of "Taking the pressure off patrollers a little" describes my recent edits perfectly. I simply noticed that something was wrong and wanted to help. I did not want to cause more problems. I am currently trying to focus directly on video game articles alone. I do not edit with the intent to harm the project, I am simply trying to assist how I can. If you do not want me to do this, I understand and can adjust my focus to VG Articles alone.
I cannot express how thankful I am for your restraint and behavior twords me. I have dealt with a lot of Discord server staff members that would have banned me 5 times by now instead of instructing me on my mistakes like you have. I am considering another re-read of the guidelines of wikipedia to better assist the goal of improving the encyclopedia. And your advice has assisted me. If your advice truely did no effect, I would have already been blocked. I agree that I need more experience with editing, I just wanted to help where I thought I could. Now knowing where i can't, I can now improve the encyclopedia directly.
I apologize for all damage I may have caused to the project greatly, I promise that direct improvement will occur immediately.
Again, Thank you for talking to me about this instead of just blocking me with no warning.
Cheers. PerryPerryD Talk To Me 14:32, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
You are correct that once there's a few different events in the life of an article (In this case an AFD, a failed GA, and a later successful GA), they should use the article milestone template to organize it all together. However, Wii U is lacking that template right now, so removing the failed GAN template simply removes the history.
What I'd like to see is that you worry less about the background processes of Wikipedia. Areas you've gotten attention in include GA, UAA, SPI, etc. Just avoid these areas right now, they need a serious grip on policy and guidelines, and most importantly, a "read between the lines" feel for how the community is applying them. This comes only with exposure and experience.
I'm happy to assist you with any questions you have about what to do at a given article, how MOS:VG might apply to a given piece of content, how to use a source or help determine if it's reliable, either here or in Discord, or on an article talk. But I'd like to see you focus less on backroom process and more on content or patrolling. Patrolling itself is a nuanced skill, but if you keep to direct vandalism it's hard to run afoul of anyone. -- ferret (talk) 14:42, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
One more note. I've seen you expressed an interest in doing some Spoken Wikipedia work. I think you should give some serious consideration about that, and the implications of putting your voice forever on Wikipedia. At the very least, you might consider waiting a few years. -- ferret (talk) 14:46, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
At the risk of piling on, I would like to add "policy creation" to this list - to give but an example, in WP:VPP you've suggested a major change to protection. VPP prominently notes at the top that it's for fully formed proposals. But without that experience on Wikipedia in actual articles you wouldn't know that we fervantly try to avoid early or automatic protection. Or that FA took multiple attempts and a detailed proposal and reasoning before it reached its current form.
I urge you to read through Help:Intro and then edit articles of interest to you. Everything in the backend is secondary to articles. And that experience in articles will help everything else. Nosebagbear (talk) 15:26, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
I think a huge factor here is that I am a bit nervous when it comes to being bold with my edits, especially due to being blocked for 2 years PerryPerryD Talk To Me 16:46, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
Your block was for a very specific and narrow issue, which I'm confident you can avoid. You're not going to accidentally do COI editing. -- ferret (talk) 17:12, 17 May 2022 (UTC)
