File source problem with File:PeterKaufmannCloseUp.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:PeterKaufmannCloseUp.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. File:Old Cabin Camp 1930.jpg edit

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Non-free rationale for File:Old Cabin Camp 1930.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Old Cabin Camp 1930.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Orphaned non-free image File:Old Cabin Camp 1930.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Old Cabin Camp 1930.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:36, 9 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi P.dreher. A couple of things about this file. Assuming that it's not within the public domain (see c:COM:HIRTLE) or it hasn't been released under a free license, it's going to need to be treated as non-free content. This means that each use of the file is going to need to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. There are ten non-free content use criteria which need to be met each time a non-free file, and three of these criteria are WP:NFCC#3, WP:NFCC#9 and WP:NFCC#10.
  • NFCC#3: Only low-resolution appropriately sized non-free files can be used; a bot previously tagged this file for reduction (see #File:Old Cabin Camp 1930.jpg) but for some reason you removed the tag. I've restored the tag, so please don't remove it again.
  • NFCC#9: Non-free content can only be used in articles; it cannot be used in your user sandbox as explained in WP:UP#Non-free files. The file was previously removed by an administrator named JJMC89 three times, but you keep re-adding it. Please stop doing this. If you're worried about the file being deleted per #Orphaned non-free image File:Old Cabin Camp 1930.jpg, then continuing to re-add the file to your user sandbox will not stop that from happening. The only way to "de-orphan" a non-free file is to find an article where it can be used according to Wikipedia's non-free content use policy and then add the file to the article. If you keep re-adding the file to your user sandbox, it's eventually going to lead to an administrator stepping in and taking steps to stop you from doing so. Be advised that a deleted file is not gone forever; a deleted file is only hidden from public view and can usually be restored at a later date per WP:REFUND after the issues which led to its deletion have been resolved. So, if the file is deleted before the draft you're working on has been approved and upgraded to article status, don't panic; just request the file be restored once it's ready to be used in accordance with relevant policy.
  • NFCC#10: a separate, specific non-free use rationale is required for each use of a non-free file. The {{Information}} template you've added to the file's page is OK for general information purposes, but it's not the same as a non-free use rationale. You can write out a non-free use rationale yourself if you like, but there are also various template which you can use as well, some of which may specifically apply to how you intend to use the file. Files lacking any sort of non-free use rationale, however, can be deleted per WP:F6; so, you're going to need to add something if this file is truly non-free content. Be advised though that adding a non-free use rationale doesn't automatically make the particular non-free use policy compliant; for example, adding a non-free use rationale so that you can use the file in your sandbox is clearly pointless since such non-free use is not allowed. The file was previously tagged as lacking a non-free use rationale by a bot, but you removed that tag as well. Please stop removing file maintenance tags unless you're actually addressing the reasons why the tags were added in the first place. If you don't understand why a particular tag was added, you can always ask for help.
If you have any questions on any of the above, you can ask them below or at WP:MCQ. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:09, 14 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve Peter Kaufmann-Bohren (alpine guide) edit

Hello, P.dreher,

Thank you for creating Peter Kaufmann-Bohren (alpine guide).

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

It appears that in several instances you have cited primary sources to back claims made in the article. While citing primary sources may sometimes be useful (such as when citing a quote), articles should be primarily based on secondary sources. Synthesizing information from primary sources is a form of original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Rosguill}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Proposed deletion of File:ChrKaufmannFührerbuch.jpg edit

The file File:ChrKaufmannFührerbuch.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence that the photograph itself is released under a free license; depicts something 3D so does not qualify for {{PD-art}}.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Reasons not to delete File:ChrKaufmannFührerbuch.jpg edit

It would be a pity to delete the file File:ChrKaufmannFührerbuch.jpg from the article “Christian Kaufmann (Alpine guide)” since it meaningfully supports the content of the article. I am not that familiar with Wikipedia guidelines to argue for keeping the image, aside from the fact that the document’s author is 80 years old, so that {{Commons:Template:PD-old-80}} might apply. I took the picture of the object myself (i.e., Führerbuch) in 2009 with the permission of the owner at the time (Elsa Wolf-Kaufmann), whom I credit in comments to the File History of the image. I would appreciate assistance in finding a reason to keep the image in the article. P.dreher

I am sorry; I did not see this until after I had nominated the picture for deletion. If you took the picture, you need to send evidence of permission using the release generator and it will be kept on the encyclopedia. The issue at hand is that photographs involve two copyrights. The document's author holds the copyright on the document itself, but the photographer holds the copyright on that specific photograph of the picture. To be allowed on Wikipedia, both the object and the photograph must be either in the public domain or under a free license. Given that you are the photographer, you can release your rights under a free license using the release generator I linked above. This link explains the issues at hand better than I can! I am again so sorry for the confusion, and thank you so much for contributing the picture to the encyclopedia. In the meantime, I have withdrawn my deletion nomination. If you have any questions, please let me know by replying here or on my talk page. HouseBlastertalk 02:51, 26 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Grabi Peter Kaufmann Portrait.jpg edit

The file File:Grabi Peter Kaufmann Portrait.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused, low quality. Can be re-cropped from File:Peter Kaufmann portrait by Grabi Peter circa 1900.jpg if needed.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
