Columbia University and "jokes"

edit

Hi Omicronpersei8,

You may want to participate in the discussion on the Columbia University talk page, about "Barnard jokes," since you were the one who tagged an article by that name for deletion. Best, Matan 01:01, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll state again that almost all "serial killers" don't spend most of their time killing people. It's a non-argument since most of us don't spend all of our time doing any one thing. Again, Ted Bundy didn't spend 2 out of every 3 minutes killing people. I'll also state again that the terms we're discussing are not mutually exclusive. Kaczynski is BOTH serial killer and terrorist (and white, and male, and a mathematician, and a convicted felon, and a hermit, and an anarchist . . .) He can be many things at the same time. The ambiguity of many terms is undeniable, which is why I buttressed my argument for labelling him a serial killer with more than a single definition or reason. Don't know where "bad faith" comes into play when using a defined term that fits. No snark here, but I have no idea what one means by saying ". . . it seems to me that to consider him a serial killer to be a sign of bad faith." I'm not dealing in faith, rather, I'm dealing in accurately describing the man with a relevant term. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wooden Bear (talkcontribs) 19:00, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Philanthropist

edit

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Philanthropist, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Philanthropist. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. — Sebastian (talk) 04:02, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fixing vandalism

edit

Hi, I need some help. I found vandalism on Wikipedia, but don't know how to fix it. The image of campers playing in the pool on the Young Life page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Life) was changed to have a silly face over the face of one of the people in the pool. It looks like this was done on 03:05, 8 October 2006 by Dylantogrye. I'm new to Wikipedia and don't know how to fix it. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.32.38.248 (talk) 22:11, 8 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

Possible error in Wikipedia's internals

edit

Sorry to bother you again, I feel but you are the only one it makes sense complaining to :)

I was reading the article about Troy, the movie. In the "External links" section there was the link "Troy at Box Office Mojo". Clicking on Troy would redirect to the appropriate page at BOM. However, clicking on Box Office Mojo, would redirect to the same page as Troy. When I tried editing the contents I found out that I had no idea on how to correct this. Normaly, it should link to the internal article for BOM.

Thank you for you time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Outsid3r (talkcontribs) 01:36, 5 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

Regarding Omicronpersei8's departure

edit

I spoke with him on AIM shortly after he left, and while he said he might return to leave you guys a note explaining what was up, I have not seen him back here at all. So I will simply pass on what he said to me.

The first message I got regarding his departure was on 2006-12-03 "(02:48:22 PM EST) Omicronpersei8: chris, I'm going inactive indefinitely on Wikipedia."

He proceeded to explain to me that while in school he had become addicted to Wikipedia, spending almost all of his free time here. He did not say if his grades were being affected but reading between the lines I gather that they were (I could be wrong).

I responded saying that while we will miss his hard work here, his own life takes priority over Wikipedia, period. So please wish him a fond farewell, but don't pressure him to return to Wikipedia. If he does it should be by his choice.

And so I will leave him with this; it's well deserved. --Chris (talk) 18:40, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

  The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
You've been a great RC patroller. Farewell, and good luck with school. --Chris (talk) 18:40, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
The barnstar is certainly deserved. Good luck to you, Omicronpersei, in your future endeavors. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 19:42, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'll second that. He was one of the most (if not the most) prodigious vandal fighters I've seen....though I could see how that could interfere with other aspects of your life. I wish him well. OhNoitsJamie Talk 01:21, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Omicronpersei, the man who was omnipresent at Wikipedia. Alas, we hardly knew ye. Cheers, pal, hope your departure is short-lived. --AbsolutDan (talk) 01:36, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Omicronpersei, you have been one of the kindest, most sincere Wikipedians I've run into in my time with this project. I can't think of a more prolific RC patroller. You'll be missed. That RfA nomination offer still stands. alphachimp 06:52, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm still shocked that he left, I saw his vandalfighting all the time, he was an asset to Wikipedia. Please come back.--Wizardman 04:47, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Going trough my watchlist I have seen lots of your good work, thank you! But of course real life allways has to prevail, all the best.--VirtualDelight 18:57, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Help for the Celine Dion CD pages and Discography

edit

For the Celine Dion Cd pages there are very little references. In most wiki pages we are asked to put references and for example in the D'elles CD there are absolutely none. My other problem is that in the Discography I think that the sales are not very accurate. According to the global chart (Ill use the CD D'elles again) it is said to have sold 500,000 copies in its first week while the official global chart it says only 133,000 [1]. I know some countries are not included but I doubt that a French CD sold almost 4 times the amount outside the countries listed on the United World Chart. Apperantly it shipped 0.5 million globally that amount but then the heading should be abulms shipped not sold. Anyways sorry for such a long message I just needed to inform someone. Thanks

AfD nomination of Dude

edit

An editor has nominated Dude, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dude and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:01, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
