The Country Girls/References section

The first quote cited in the references section starts "n Ireland . . . ." It should begin "In Ireland . . . ." I've tried to edit it, but the references are blocked in edit mode. Austria-Hungary intro "too long"

You placed a flag on the Austria-Hungary entry indicating that you think the intro is too long. Given the way the entry has evolved, there appears to be an implicit consensus against you, but maybe that's simply because no one paused to think about it. Till now.

It's one of those things that can be argued either way. But please can you take a couple of minutes to set out on the talk page in question why you think what you think? You must (presumably) have thought about the matter a good deal and have formulated in your own mind some well founded arguments. Or? So ... please share!

New deal for page patrollers

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. Bahrain circuit maps

You put a note on these two circuit maps (long and short) that they are based on 8 June 2006 data. Do you remember what the data source was, and why the length doesn't match the official track lengths as used by FIA for F1 Grands Prix? cherkash (talk) 18:28, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

You say you use Google Earth, but does it have enough precision to give you sub-meter readings along the full track-length? Especially since the length would differ depending on whether you measure along an exact centerline or are slightly off of it (centerline measurements is what FIA claims it uses for its purposes, and I'm pretty certain it's based on very high-precision survey maps and track design diagrams, in addition to on-site measurements – which usually tends to be more precise than aerial/space photos that have to be geo-referenced first and then manipulated to flatten them and fit them to scale, which would often result in some loss of precision, especially since geo-referencing is not always done on a very fine and precise grid for image post-production purposes). cherkash (talk) 18:39, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

I see. But this would be very imprecise: it depends on how exactly you (or someone else) lay out the lines and curves in the KML, etc.

As an example, on the Bahrain maps in question, you quoted length expressed in km/mi to four decimal digits. This corresponds to a measurement precision around 0.001%: 0.00005 (half of the last meaningful digit) divided by 5 km/mi (give or take). I don't believe with the method you described, you are anywhere even remotely close to achieving this precision. The errors of your method must be at least a couple orders of magnitude bigger. You should independently come to the same conclusion if you simply compare your measurement results against official track lengths (5.4068 km vs. 5.412 – a whopping 5 m difference, two orders of magnitude bigger than the 5 cm precision you implicitly used).

So may I suggest something? It may be time to reconsider using the lengths derived in this way – especially since official FIA measurement data is widely available. More generally, depending on how widely you use similar Google-Earth–derived data in your other contributions, you may want to seriously re-consider the precision with which you quote those numbers. cherkash (talk) 13:04, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Updating Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon map

Mallory Park

I have just completed minor edits, and noticed that the prose (unchecked by whom) states Shaw's Hairpin, and this appears in your map File:Mallory Park track map.svg. I go back to 1964, and have always known this as The Hairpin or Shaw's Corner. I've mentioned this in the edit summary together with the following link showing a 1961 race programme.
