Greek Life at the University of Central Florida

Please don't remove the selfpublished and notable tags from Greek Life at the University of Central Florida unless you provide an explanation as to what makes the Greek life at UCF different from the Greek life at any other college, and unless you provide sources that are published from some other reliable sources besides UCF. Loss of Alpha Phi Omega

I noticed that Alpha Phi Omega was lost in the move of the Greek Life out of the main UCF page onto the one specifically for it. I believe that it is reasonable to put it in Other Greek Organizations, however I am interested in your opinion.Naraht (talk) 13:51, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Elementary Schools

The general standard of notability for primary schools is at wp:schools and is "For elementary/primary and middle schools, reliable secondary sources are usually too limited for notability. An exception is made for schools having a specific, notable distinction or status (e.g., the Blue Ribbon Schools Program in the U.S. and Beacon School, Training school, or 'Grade 1' outstanding Office for Standards in Education overall assessment in the UK)". The other elementary schools that I have so far looked at in this school area have either a Blue Ribbon or the school is on a heritage list. I am continuing to look at the County article and will change according to the above standard. If the school has some degree of notability that is not mentioned in the article it should be included and i will put a notability tag on its article for the moment. BTW your argument should be looked at in terms of Wikipedia:Other stuff exists. Cheers Porturology (talk) 01:32, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of Greek Life at the University of Central Florida

I have nominated Greek Life at the University of Central Florida, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Greek Life at the University of Central Florida. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Madcoverboy (talk) 13:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Deleting Greek Life articles for UF & FSU

  • So basically you want to delete UF & FSU Greek Life pages because someone nominated to delete Greek Life at the University of Central Florida. Pretty shameful in my opinion. Jccort (talk) 22:20, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
    • I did not just nominate the UF and FSU articles for deletion, I tagged all Greek Life articles that do not meet the general notability requirements in WP:UNIGUIDE. Saying that "We do not have room on the page for this" is not a valid explanation. The nomination for deletion template may not be removed from the page until the process is completed. Any further deletion will be noted as vandalism and you will be reported. If you feel the article should be kept, then explain why on the articles for deletion page. While I am a UCF Alumni from over 20 years ago, you can look at my history and see I have made notable improvements to numerous Florida articles. --Nemesis63 (talk) 01:47, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Look the fact is you only decided to nominate to delete the UF/FSU Greek Life articles after another poster nominated the deletion of the UCF Greek Life. You also started the Wikiproject University of Central Florida, and copied wikiproject UF and wikiproject FSU to a tee. Also you have not done a mass purge of Greek Life articles on Wikipedia (you only nominated 3 total). You specifically targeted UF & FSU. Also you are in fact guilty of deleting the nomination for deletion for the UCF Greek Life article, and then you tried to cover it up in your talk page. Jccort (talk) 01:59, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Nemesis63/Archive 1,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Regards, Andrew Gradman talk/WP:Hornbook 19:53, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (File:Colbourn UCF.JPG)

Thanks for uploading File:Colbourn UCF.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Alt text

Just noticed that you've been adding alt text to the UCF alumni list. Unfortunately, I don't think you've understood what it's for - it's a newish concept, and it took me a while too! Basically, your alt text is repeating the caption, but the alt text should describe the photograph. Imagine you're trying to explain what the picture shows to a friend over the telephone. You can't say "it's a picture of John Doe", unless everyone is bound to know who John Doe is. Instead, you put something like "alt=A middle-aged man in scruffy clothes, carrying an axe, standing by a tree" or whatever. I suggest you re-read WP:ALT and try again. Have fun... BencherliteTalk 14:12, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the assistance.--Nemesis63 (talk) 14:37, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Still needs work. WP:ALT#Verifiability says "Alt text should be verifiable by a non-expert reader who is looking only at the image." To take this image as an example, the current alt text is "Philadlephia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel gives military fans his autograph as part of the annual Military Appreciation Day event where the NFL players show their thanks to their country's servicemembers." Absolutely none of that can be verified by an non-expert looking only at the image. BencherliteTalk 14:48, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits to List of recessions in the United States. Note that we don't link dates and other chronological items anymore; see WP:MOSNUM. Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 19:21, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi - In the article you created Kenny Clark (American football) you apparently copied several sentences from one of the sources you used. Please don't do this. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Joseph Biden, Jr. Picture

Hi, there. Your source for the Joe Biden picture states it's UCF's photofile, but I can't find it in the file. Is there another place you got the photo? Do you know what he spoke about on that day? Thanx. —Preceding unsigned comment added by CStarling75 (talkcontribs) 16:18, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I did get the photo from the link but the site has undergone a redesign so likely the link is broken and I will try and find it. On that day, as the caption suggests, he was "delivering the university's 1978 commencement address." (Speaking at it's graduation ceremony). The exact date and topic are unknown. --Nemesis63 (talk) 16:28, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

St. Petersburg Bowl

Hello Nemesis63, I am not claiming to be an expert when it comes to the official bowl name. However, from reading the source you have listed, it sounds like it will still be referred to as the "St. Petersburg Bowl"

"Of what will now be known as the St. Petersburg Bowl presented by Beef ‘O’ Brady’s (St. Petersburg Bowl)"

To me the parenthesis indicate that it will still be somewhat referred to as "St. Petersburg Bowl" much like the Rose Bowl Game presented by citi is known as the "Rose Bowl Game." In order for the template to function properly, this is the format that should be used.

Once again, I am not an expert. Let me know what you think. Bcspro (talk) 16:31, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:49, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

For future reference, when copying other people's content...

I noticed that you merged the article I'd been working on Obama financial regulatory reform plan of 2009, into Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Thanks - I had been planning on doing that at some point. However, for future reference try to use edit summaries when you copy content from one page to another - in this case you used an edit summary which made it appear that you were originally adding this material. This also lets people check on the article you're merging from to see if there is anything you missed. I don't see anything, but is there anything you decided not to merge into the Dodd-Frank article? II | (t - c) 22:23, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Why Are You Threatening Me?

I apologize if this is an inappropriate forum to bring this matter up, but I admit I am new to Wikipedia editing. I am just using this forum as an opportunity to respond to a threat made to me. If there is a way to private message/email the person threatening me, I will be happy to do that as I just created this Wikipedia log in tonight. I admit I feel very hurt and upset about being threatened to have my ability to edit articles disabled on claims of "Disruptive Editing" and "Vandalism" which in my opinion are completely unfounded. All I have done is changed "UCF" to "Central Florida" which I think is completely appropriate given I did not even know what UCF stood for prior to their last football bowl game, and I think this more easily clarifies which team is being referenced. UCF simply stands for the University of Central Florida, so changing "UCF" to "Central Florida" is completely accurate. Almost always do you see it written as "South Florida" rather than USF (which incidentally could also stand for the University of San Francisco). If you want to bring this matter up for public discussion, so be it, but please stop threatening my rights to make legitimate and valid edits to Wikipedia Articles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by OregonHippieGuy (talkcontribs) 05:48, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Use of school colors on university navboxes

Please let me know if the IP user causes any more problems regarding the use of the UCF school colors on the UCF navoxes. I have already reverted his deletion of the black and gold color schemes from the general UCF navbox, the UCF athletics navbox, and the UCF presidents navbox, as best I could given the various intervening changes. I have placed these navboxes on my watchlist, and I will be only to happy to get one or more administrators involved, if necessary. I have also posted an alert on the talk pages for WikiProject College football and WikiProject College basketball regarding these problems. I think you will find that there are dozens of active editors who will oppose the IP's misreading of WP:Deviations. Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 23:53, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

N63, sorry I missed this dust-up when it was an active discussion. I had taken the UCF navboxes off my watch list because I figured they were non-controversial. Who figured that someone from Indonesia would "edit war" over American university colors? Bizarre. After the dust settles, you may want to look at the navboxes for UCF basketball and UCF football coaches, and conform the color schemes for all UCF navboxes based on which scheme provides the best text to background contract for easy reading. Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Platinum cup

Hello Nemesis63, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Platinum cup to a proposed deletion tag. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow to protect the encyclopedia, and do not fit the page in question. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. (talk) 06:26, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

I converted the A1 to a PROD as I could understand the context and find relevant matches on Google. This is one of those cases that cannot be easily speedied even though it is fairly obvious that it in unencyclopaedic material. If there were any content that I would suggest a merge or if the title were more specific then a redirect. Cheers (talk) 06:28, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Sachs

The alt image description was displacing other relevant information in search engine results. For example, when performing a Google search of "Senator Maria Sachs," the Wikipedia listing included the alt image description under the link rather than information about her current position (as it now shows). As you can imagine, such an unintended effect of the alt image description could be quite embarrassing and confusing for constituents of a sitting state senator. Hope that clarifies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eag227 (talkcontribs) 18:17, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 03:00, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited 2012 Conference USA football season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rice Stadium (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Florida House Chamber.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Florida House Chamber.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Kelly hi! 00:52, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Florida Polytechnic

You recently copied and pasted the contents of University of South Florida Polytechnic into a new Florida Polytechnic University article, making the suitable changes to the institution's name throughout the article. Unfortunately, that meant that the edit history of that article was not copied. Instead of copying the contents of the article and redirecting it, you should have simply moved it to preserve the edit history. Can you please fix this? Thanks!
