Argentina (CAPIF)

Hi,
got a question (or looking for advice would be more precise i guess?)
as Argentina (capif) is no longer searchable, but some stuff is findable on archives (e.g. wayback), should i bother adding archives? And if yes, could it be possible to add archive-url parameter like we added for some other country (i don't remember which one was it.. portugal? greece?)

Request

Hi!
If/When you have time, could you please do this (if possible):
1. Would it be possible to exclude Finland from Category:Certification Table Entry usages of salesamount without salesref ? Because Finland's case is special, when salesamount is input, template generates salesref (which matches certref) so it's not manually input, and just clogs up the tracking category
2. As you were part of cleanup for Category:Singlechart usages for Germany (when Germany was still the "old" code and offiziellecharts.de was Germany2 or 3). Do you by any chance know if cleanup project like this had been made for Albums chart? (going through salesamount w/o salesref category i noticed that obsolute category usage still exists) If there is none, would it be possible to make for Germany, Germany2 and Germany3, as the only valid one currently is supposed to be Germany4 (and GermanyComp)? Back to Bedlam

@LuanCampSouza93: My mistake, thanks for pointing it out. I corrected it with proper source. In general, I think InfoDisc was/is considered reliable about certifications but their sales were/are their own estimate so not reliable. I am not sure about the latter. However, certifications from 1994 onwards are available from the Wayback Machine so there is no need to use InfoDisc usually. --Muhandes (talk) 07:09, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Sales in certification sources

Hi I see that you recently removed sales on several articles that I created that had Peruvian certifications. I wanted to let you know that I undid your edits for most because the sales amount was already in the certification source. If I have to use the certification source as the sales source that's fine I don't mind doing that but please read the certification source before removing the sales. I promise I didn't purposely not use the source for the sales, I just didn't think I had to add it a second time since it was already on the table being used for the certification itself. I already put the sales amount back using the certification source and will find the sales sources for the other articles that don't have them an I will add those too. @FanDePopLatino: Thanks for letting me know. I apologize that we can't read every source. We are cleaning up 3517 pages which used |salesamount= without |salesref=, surely you can understand why we cannot read each and every source. It is a compromise, but we must resort to putting the burden on the editor adding the number. Also, I don't think IFPI is proper as the organization, use the local organization if you know it and you are sure they are the source of the certification. @Muhandes: No problem. Now as far as the organizations for certifications, Wikipedia really lacks listing American organizations with the only ones listed being for Mexico, United States, Brazil, Uruguay, Canada, and Argentina. Other are listed like Venezuela and Colombia but they don't auto-populate like the others. There's over 30 countries in the American continent but not all of them have had organizations so countries like Perú and Chile used to certify directly with IFPI but now they do have their own organizations and IFPI themselves have them listed on their official website as you can see here. I think we should work on adding the other organizations that way it is easier to add certifications for those countries. FanDePopLatino (talk) 09:53, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

@FanDePopLatino: I agree we lack articles. If you look it up, BEA, ZPAV and RIT are articles I wrote. If you wish, we can cooperate and write such articles for other countries, I personally lack the language skills to write them. We can then work on automating. If language is something that gets in the way, do you want to take the two that are in English which are JAMMS for Jamaica and COSCAP for Barbados and then I will take the Hispanic countries and create those with the help of the other wiki editors that are part of the Latin Music Project. By the way, what I meant about IFPI certifying is that in some countries in America the certification would come from an organization by the name "IFPI (Country's Name)". One example is "IFPI Chile" which their website is still up but now that they have streaming certifications too they are posted by Profovi and you can see that at the bottom of their page you will always find a link back to ifpichile.cl no matter what. Hi, as i'm seeing your going through the salesamount category for France - an fyi if you didn't know - there is big problem with lots of certifications 2009-2014 not showing up on snepmusique website, and have to be referenced with archive from when snep was still disqueenfrance (or had the old type "by year/type/cert" database) . If you don't want to/have time to search archives for those which you don't see in snep website, leave them? I'll go through the archives for the category entries after i finish with Denmark. @Kleool: Regarding InfoDisc, I made this query two months ago and no one answered, so I presumed there is a real problem. Now that you mention it, I see that the site is still being archived so it must be alive. I guess I am the only one seeing it down, perhaps it is location based. I will need to find a way around this, maybe through some proxy.

Regarding the archives, I was thinking of making it explicit, e.g., |recent=archives. However, InfoDisc is not really down perhaps it is not needed? I would still find it preferable to InfoDisc, wouldn't you? --Muhandes (talk) 08:08, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

@Muhandes: In theory infodisc should be used only for pre-1994 (how it's written in the Template document page). I guess |recent=false could be pointing to snep archives starting 1994 (until 2012?) by default (if there is archive for the specific year/cert type). @Muhandes: to be honest, there wouldn't be 1 single format, as there were different ways how they were saved. Sometimes whole page would be saved like gold albums like this or search results for specific artist like for Maroon 5 like this . I guess could also add these without |archive-url=, just adding manually through |certref= . Butter's RIAJ certifications

This single was cert plat by the RIAJ in July for crossing 250k physical sales. Its Gold certification was announced today for passing 100k downloads. How would we reconcile that in the table? An editor changed the template like this to acc for it but I don't think that's correct because the ref now shows the 100k cert while the table shows it at 250k. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 23:24, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

@Carlobunnie: That's simple, both certifications are correct. It was actually certified three times: Gold for downloads (digital), Platinum for physical sales and another Gold for streaming. I was just asking if that editor changing the phys cert to display the Digi cert in the same template was correct (not if the certs were correct, ik they were). Another question

Hi, me again. Didn't want to create another section for my question since the one above is recent so I hope you don't mind me doing it like this. If a track from an album receives a certification but doesn't have its own article, is it okay to add the cert to the certifications table w a note specifying it's for that track, or should it only be mentioned in the prose if anything? I did that here and here, but stated I wasn't sure doing so was correct, that way anyone could undo if it's not. No one's changed it yet, but I'd like to know so I don't repeat in future if it is in fact wrong. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 09:26, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

@Carlobunnie: I think certifications for tracks should not appear on the same table as certifications for the album. If there is only one certification for the track, I would list it in the prose. Da Bomb edit

Hi there, thank you for reverting the edit on Da Bomb in good faith, it's perfectly fine. :-) I realise it would need a citation but I just wanted to share this with you hence the reason I added the info.

I think this is very important about the track with Snoop Dogg that didn't make the album however there's not any coverage on this so it's a bit of a catch 22 as it came to be a notable part of the album later.

As explained in the note on the article, this is the reason why they went into the studio and made "I'm Real" (which was also a chart single) and is also the reason why the Snoop Dogg sample is in that track alongside some of the lyrics from the original transcended into the one that was re-worked and made the album.

As you can see from the Youtube video the song exists, it also has an intro from DJ Nabs (who is on the album) talking about this so it's 100% a thing and a very important fact in regards to the album which should be noted and is missing.

How do you think the best way to cover this in the article would be? Obviously seeing the video and hearing the song, there's no doubt it's a thing lol but how can we include this info the best as I do feel it's a really important fact about this album which isn't really noted.

However, it is not rare that I want to add facts I know to be true, but lack of reliable sources prevents it. Per WP:RSPYT, and other guidelines quoted there, YouTube is very rarely considered a reliable source. I don't know if this isn't a copyright violation, so even linking there may be problematic. Muhandes - Hi there, I don't this is the problem. It's one of those things due to the album being released in 94 and this only surfacing recently media haven't picked up on it, which is surprising but as you can see it's a really insightful aspect of the album, specially with that track.

It is just like you say lack of reliable source which makes it difficult. I get it with Wikipedia's outlines but seeing DJ Nabs talking about it, I just don't know the best way to go around it?

Question about Italy Cite Certification

Hello! Wanted to ask you first, maybe you know something about this - i had noticed this before, but now i'm actually starting to wonder. For Italy certifications, sometimes i see a note "sales since 2009"(or 2010) (sometimes also seperate table entry for sales, supposedly before the 2009) like in Umbrella (song). Why such distinction, and is it really such that Italy certification since 2009 does not count sales before 2009? (which sounds highly suspicious to me). Kleool (talk) 10:20, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Well basically what you said Muhandes, that was my impression. By some archives like this Stee888 (in direct connection with FIMI via email) states that sales start in 2009. And certification start in 2010 by certification date. If I understood it right. FIMI page states in certification section that collaboration with GfK starts since january 2009, so GfK detects sales since then. There are some sales reports from before via Musica e Dischi for an example that Michael Buble - Call me irresonsible sold 160,000 in 2007 but through FIMI page in 2013 it obtained just a gold status which was 30,000. @AlexanderShakifan29: I am not an expert on the Peruvian market, but the source you provided is from 2013, eight years ago, and typically IFPI sources for thresholds are only considered to be applicable for at most one year. I also note that according to the recently written Unión Peruana de Productores Fonográficos, there is no evidence that these thresholds were active later than 2013. Advertisement as source

Hi Muhandes I see that you recently removed some certifications from the article Arrasando because the source was an advertisement on Billboard Magazine. I was wondering if that's not allowed then shouldn't we also remove the source for certifications in Perú and Ecuador for the album Paulina since that is also a paid advertisement? @Toiwriter: You don't need to know anything about creating templates in order to add sources to articles. What you need to do is to learn how to cite sources. Lucky for you there is a help file for beginners about this subject. If you are interested in adding sources to existing articles, I suggest you use it to familiarize yourself with the process. As for Danish Maniyar, I see an article was created in the past and was deleted by consensus, failing to demonstrate notability. I do not want to discourage you, but language skills are required. MJ Cole birthdate

Hi Muhandes, I hope you are well Sorry to bother you but I saw you recently removed the MJ Cole birthdate mention. I modified (2 or 3 times now) with the correct one and other people keep changing it but putting a wrong one. I am part of the MJ Cole discord community and have been present on his Twitch streams for months now. He told us several times that his birthdate was wrong on Wikipedia. The correct date (he gave us) is 24th September 1973. I offered to modify it on his behalf but then someone else modified it on a "hearsay" and you deleted completly now. As you have been doing that for years, please let me know what you think should be done ;-) I just need to know what to tell MJ Cole next time I speak to him on Discord or Twitch.

@Pantoniotti: I deleted the date because there were several parties warring over it and none of these parties was providing any reliable sources. In fact, one party claimed 1983 is the correct year, and cited Twitch as the source. I think both Discord and Twitch will be considered unreliable at this point. @0gaetan0: There are several reason why I reverted your edit. First, the infobox is not supposed to confer any new information, just summarize the article. in the article, the term R&B links to Contemporary R&B, so I made sure the infobox does the same. This is a technicality. Second, I never heard this duo they created, and even if I did, I would never trust my own judgement. An encyclopedia is built on secondary sources. If you have reliable secondary sources which discuss their style, it would be fitting to create a "Style" section, discuss their style, and after this, correct the infobox. @AlexanderShakifan29: First, I had to waste 15 minutes just to look up what page you are talking about since there is no Faithful Dog page. I finally found Perro Fiel, and I presume you are referring to this revert. Second, please note that you were misusing the {{Certification Table Entry}} template. Per that template's documentation, the purpose of |salesamount= is to override sales amount with a sales figure from a reliable source, when not based on the certification (my emphasis). I presume what you wanted to do is actually to update the certification itself, see here how this is done. If you wanted to update the amount without changing the certificatoin, you need to provide a source with |salesref=, or the edit will be reverted. @Rahulsoman: I removed the source because I believe it does not improve the article. First, the table column where you added the source is the "Status" column for private universities. The column already included a source which is a) an official source from the ministry of education and b) from January 2021. How does adding another source from 2018 help the reader know the status? It does not contribute any new information, nor does it help add any validity to existing information. If at all, it confuses the reader by showing a source which is less up to date and because, from some reason, it does not apply to public institutes. Second, the press release you added is already used in the article at three different places, it is currently numbered [8]. How does adding it a second time (as [18]), as if it is a different source, and doing so in a place where it doesn't contribute any new information, improve the article? I used the good faith tag because I believe you did not notice these facts, and were, in good faith, trying to improve the article. @Iflaq: Thanks for reaching back, it is always good to see a junior willing to learn. The short answer is WP:DRAFTOBJECT. For the longer answer, you can see in the page history that the article was not an AfC article at all, it was draftified by mistake by another junior editor. You can see the discussion at the article's talk page and also some discussion here. The first part says that I am not assuming you meant anything disruptive, to the contrary, you made an honest attempt to improve the article. However, the reason is also stated, namely WP:SONGCOVER which states: Only cover versions/renditions important enough to have gained attention in their own right should be added to song articles. In other words, a source showing that a cover version exists is not enough. You need sources to show that the cover version is noteworthy in its own right. I hope this clarify things. You cannot use discogs because the community has decided that it is not a reliable source, see WP:RSPSS. You cannot add executive producers because the community has decided that this field should not include them, see WP:NOEXEC. Certification for Miénteme in the US

Hello There, I saw that my edit for Riaa latin certification has been removed. I know that Riaa has its own list where certified singles are listed and maybe the song is not listed there yet, but here is an article from the Official Sony Music Latin label where it says how the song has reached 2x platinum certification in US. @Yiwistar: Last time I checked, RIAA is the certifying authority for sales in the US. Sony is a record label, they are not a certifying authority. If Sony says am album was certified and RIAA says it wasn't, RIAA is correct and Sony is wrong. This just demonstrates that a label can never be trusted when they claim a certification. Izvestia

Hi, most of the edits citing it as a source were reverted back when they were added years ago. Either way, a random document appearing out of nowhere with no association with the Russian music industry association or even any label's website and containing blatant errors (4x Platinum = 80k -> 5x Platinum 120k), if not flat out made up certifications (Bronze awards) can reasonably be deemed fake. Furthermore, this article explains the streaming era's thresholds in Russia (as adopted by the major labels, which are the only ones assigning awards currently, once again there's no mention of that on their national association's website) that in no ways correspond to those in the document. ×°˜`°×ηαη¢у×°˜`°× 16:12, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Revert of my Dean Martin discography edits

I don't understand why this was reverted. The archive links I added allowed anyone to see the entire Holiday 100 list regardless of whether they subscribed to Billboard.com or not. Now it's linked to their upgraded page, but non-subscribers can't see the list. Why did you do this? Are you planning on archiving the new pages like I did so that the entire list is visible?
