Thanks for uploading Image:P6140018.JPG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

GSP exit list reverts

Thank you Mlaurenti for starting the exit list on Garden State Parkway. It was a wonderful starting point and contribution. However, it does need some work (such as the US/CR abbreviations that Alansohn fixed, as well as minor factual errors). Thank you for making a productive edit to the exit list. However, I'm curious as to why you decided to change "Township" back to "Twp" in some, but not all, cases. Route 32 (New Jersey)

The purpose of the infobox is to give a brief overview of the route. Since it ends at the Turnpike overpass, it does technically end at the Turnpike, and including the Turnpike in both the junction list and the eastern terminus is extremely redundant. Tidbits of information such as that it actually ends at the overpass, not the interchange, should be included in the article text, not the infobox. -- NORTH ^talk 21:59, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Infobox_road template standards

I have added a discussion thread at WT:NJSCR to address standards for NJ road infoboxes and invite your participation. Over the past several weeks, we have made tremendous progress in cleaning up the articles for the State highways in New Jersey, especially with the expansion and addition of infoboxes to most of these articles. However, there seems to be a great deal of confusion as to what should be going in these infoboxes. I am creating this thread and inviting those users who have been active participants in editing these pages to come up with a mutually agreeable answer on the issues listed. I will take on the task of moderating this discussion, but I will add my 2 cents on these topics. We can add more questions if needed, but please, be civil. Alansohn 23:40, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

A follow up on the usage of "Toll Gate" and toll plaza

It seems we've decided to use "toll gate" to refer to the toll facilities located at exits rather than on the Parkway itself; however, as a frequent user of the Parkway I would like to note that each and every toll facility on the Parkway identifies itself as a "TOLL PLAZA." In the windows of the booths, there are green signs reading, e.g.:

UNION
TOLL PLAZA

at a mainline plaza or, e.g.

UNION RAMP
TOLL PLAZA

at an exit. Regardless of what the common term for such a facility is, the term on the Parkway is toll plaza. In fact, other than in the New Jersey state driver's manual, which refers to them as "Toll Barriers," I've rarely heard them called anything but plazas on any road in the NY-NJ-CT region. I would change all the "gate"s to "plaza"s myself but I (a) don't feel up to the task at the moment and (b) I'd rather not start a revert war over the Garden State Parkway.--Mjj237 04:30, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Contrary to a foolish statement once made by a foolish New Hampshire governor, there are no "toll gates" on the Garden State Parkway (or anywhere in New Jersey, AFAIK). The Merritt Parkway used to have actual toll gates: gates at the toll barriers that did not raise until the proper toll was paid. But this has never been the case in NJ and "Toll Plaza" is definitely the correct term.

Thank you for clearing that up, Atlant, now it all makes sense. Although, a few of the older toll booths for exact change only have/had gates on them. (I moved out of New Jersey 5 years ago, so I don't know what the current status is.) -- NORTH ^talk 21:11, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

At Exit 145, the I-280 Exit, there used to be tollgates. I don't think they are there anymore. The baskets don't always work perfectly and there would be tieups and problems.--Wehwalt 16:49, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Maps

Image:Exit 8A (aerial NJDOT) copy.jpg and Image:New 8a.jpg say in the corner "(C) NJDEP", and the other maps obviously come from the same source. You cannot upload them (or modified versions) to Wikipedia without NJDEP releasing them under a sufficiently free license. --NE2 14:24, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes; you need to get permission, not only to use on Wikipedia, but to use under a free license. Most governments are not willing to do this; you may be able to generate something free using GIS data like the US Census TIGER/Line data. --NE2 18:50, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Stop uploading copyrighted images and then falsely claiming that they are in the public domain. If an image has a copyright notice on it, then it is not appropriate for use in Wikipedia. Since images created by NJ Gov't are copyrighted, then they CANNOT be uploaded to Wikipedia (even with permission from NJ Gov't). If you can show somewhere public where the government of New Jersey has released these works into the public domain, then they can be uploaded to Wikipedia. If you call someone in the state government who says that you can use the images, that is not sufficient for Wikipedia. That's an interesting statement. Leaving aside the question of why the State of New Jersey copyrights material, I wonder what this means with relation to the NJ Open Public Records Act? Essentially, most material outside the judicial branch of government in NJ that does not have an explicit reason to be confidential, is public. And of course, material has copyright protection even without an explicit copyright notice. Where does this leave us with respect to any state government records? Phillipsburg-Newark Expressway vs. Interstate 78

As an aspiring road geek, I have heard the term "Phillipsburg-Newark Expressway", but most people think of it as Interstate 78. Does it make sense to refer to it as "Phillipsburg-Newark Expressway (Interstate 78)" or shouldn't it be "Interstate 78 (Phillipsburg-Newark Expressway)" to reflect the more common name? Re: CR 520 / Shore Points

Greetings again. You may remember a few months ago that when you added the Shore Points note to Exit 8A on the exit list on New Jersey Turnpike, I reverted it off because I was thinking of a different route. When you explained what you were thinking (612 to 520), I allowed it to stay. But the problem with this is that it's all original research. Let me explain...

When you made this edit, I looked it up on Google Maps, and a number of other trip planning sites. The shortest route from the Exit 8A ramp to Sea Bright (the end of 520) is not 520 all the way -- you take 18 to 36. Therefore, all these edits you've made saying that CR 520 serves as the connector from the Turnpike to Shore Points is incorrect. It's barely even a direct route, with a number of turns near downtown Red Bank and Rumson.

So then let's go all the way back to the Turnpike edit that sort of started all this. In order for someone to use Exit 8A for "Shore Points" -- whether they take 520 all the way or not, they would have had to get on the Turnpike at either Exit 9 (or further north) or Exit 8 (or further south). But if you do a search for New Brunswick (Exit 9) to Sea Bright, it has you taking the Turnpike to Exit 10 to the Parkway south to Exit 109. If you do a search for Hightstown (Exit 8) to Sea Bright, it has you taking NJ 33 to CR 537 to NJ 18 to NJ 36]. The simple fact is that Exit 8A is not used to access Shore Points, and that CR 520 is not a "connector" between the Turnpike in Jamesburg and the Parkway in Middletown. -- NORTH ^talk 23:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Please add any questions for me to my talk page - you've been adding these to an archive page instead. THe answer to the first question is yes, unless their copyright release statement prohibits it. I would tag it as released by the author into the public domain, and then add a note to the image's talk page identifying the source image and explaining what you did to alter it. I also live in Middlesex County. I'm curious as to where you (Mlaurenti, not Mitch) got information about the Milltown area development going around in Monroe Township or whatever it was. (I'm more familiar with: Jamesburg, Helmetta, Spotswood, the Brunswicks, Rossmoor and Concordia, and some parts of northern Monroe Township.) — Rickyrab | Talk 12:09, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

I admit to not being familiar with the name "Millstone Preserve", although I could probably tell you where the "Hills of Matchaponix" are (somewhere near Texas Road, I think), and could recall that there was a "stone museum" within a short drive from there (I'll have to go find it, but I was there as a kid and there were signs pointing to it.) I also know that there are at least two synagogues in Monroe Township (one's in the Concordia shopping center and another one is called the "Monroe Township Jewish Center - Congregation Etz Chaim"), and I think Rossmoor may have a congregation and Chabad-Lubavich might have an outlet somewhere. I could also tell you that Mill Lake School is not the original school by that name. (It was torn down and replaced by a school next to its original site, not too far from what was the old school's playground.) The New Jersey State and County Route Newsletter Issue 6 – October 1, 2007

Issue #6 The 6th edition of the WP:NJSCR newsletter. This one will hopefully start a monthly streak of newsletters.

Project News Many articles are starting to reach Start and B-class. New Jersey Route 55, New Jersey Route 47, New Jersey Route 74 all got upgraded to B-class. County Route 622 (Middlesex County, New Jersey) failed its 3rd Good Article nomination due to unreliable sources and other conditions. We currently now have over 10 B-class articles. New Jersey Route 75 has reached Start-class. A to-do list has been posted on the project page, with a more detailed version at WT:NJSCR#To-do list. The simple version: Ensure that all freeway exit lists are up to exit list guide standards. Make sure all infoboxes have the new maint= parameter. Make sure the straight line diagram is properly referenced in the infobox. Add a major intersections table to each article.

Member of the Month Mlaurenti The member of the month for this edition is User:Mlaurenti. He joined in March of 2006 and has been a worker ever since. Works include starting the Garden State Parkway's exit list. Thanks for all your hard work, Mlaurenti!

The Reboot of Wikiproject New Jersey has certainly stirred up some new activity at the project. Discussion on several improvements and new initiatives have been going on at the talk page. There has been an involved discussion regarding our 88 unassessed articles, especially those on municipalities. The current goal is to review and assess all 566 New Jersey muncipality articles by September 30. A suggestion has been made to intiate Wikipedia Takes New Jersey to begin clearing the large backlog of articles needing photos. Let's all grab our cameras and head out into the vast wilds of the Garden State. Town Halls, High Schools, Historic Places - every article deserves a picture. New Jersey Collaboration news	New WPNJ members
WPNJ member Mm40 has volunteered to coordinate a new WPNJ Collaboration project. It's been a while since we used the NJCOTW and new volunteers are needed. Join the discussion to volunteer. Battle of Trenton was recently proposed as a Featured Article candidate. It was not promoted, but has now been nominated for A-Class review through the Military History WikiProject. Take a look at their A-Class FAQ. As we need to set up our own process for reviewing A-Class articles, it may be worth watching the process. Reboot progress report	Help Wanted
The redesign has been well received. There are still some things left to do. This newsletter was one big check mark off the list. Hopefully this can be continued on a regular basis. There are literally thousands of articles in Category:New Jersey that have not been tagged as part of the project, and stub sorting hasn't been run in 10 months. We will need to identify some friendly bot operators to help with these projects. An outreach department (which includes the newsletter) needs to be formalized. Creating an invitation template for easy placement on userpages will also be part of that effort. There are lots of best practices described at the WikiProject Council with ideas of how to make our project more responsive, welcoming, active, and effective. Task forces? Peer review? The Maryland WikiProject has put together a great chart comparing the growth of several state WikiProjects, including WPNJ. Take a look at the chart to see how the growth of WPNJ compares to some of our peer projects. Please remember to place the {{WikiProject New Jersey}} tag on the talk pages of any New Jersey related articles you create or come across. You can also add the new articles page to your watchlist. Some updates have been made to the NJ Portal, but much more needs to be done. If a few volunteers can put together Featured Article summmaries, we can automate rotating the portal content. The same can be done for DYK items. Please take a look and see if you can assist. Wikipedia Release version 0.7	New WPNJ members
The Wikipedia 0.7 project team has chosen the New Jersey related articles that will be included in the next downloadable version of Wikipedia. You can review the list of selected WPNJ articles, check the articles tagged for cleanup, or nominate additional articles for inclusion. Selection is an automated process based on article assessments. To help avoid vandalism and POV concerns, specific versions of articles can be tagged for inclusion in the downloadable release. See the New Jersey section of the bot results to recommend a production version. The process ends on October 20, and then a bot will select an appropriate version if none has been recommended. Both Jon Corzine and The Sopranos were promoted to Good Article status in the past month. No WikiProject New Jersey articles were promoted to Featured article status. Also, in an item that was missed last month, Thomas Edison was delisted as a Good Article in July. The WPNJ Assessment Drive is ongoing. FYI I-80 in NJ

For future reference on other articles you may edit, I changed your edit which bolded the Interstate 80 link in the lead paragraph of Interstate 80 in New Jersey. It should be bold but not linked, per the WP:MOS which discourages bolded links. The USRD project has addressed this issue by developing the {{Highway detail hatnote}}, which is explained at WP:USRD/STDS#Lead. Thanks for contributing and please contact me with any questions. Education Task Force - The conversion of the former WikiProject Education is New Jersey has been completed. New Jersey education-related articles are now supported by the Education task force. The project banner has been updated to fully support the task force with independent importance ratings. No More Comments - A proposal at the Village Pump has resulted in the deprecation of comments subpages. These were usually found at Talk:Article title/Comments and contained little more than assessment notes. These pages were not widely watched, and are often a hidden location for vandalism and BLP violations. WPNJ has 104 articles that used these pages. A complete list of them, along with their contents, can be viewed at Wikipedia:WikiProject New Jersey/Deprecation of comments. It is up to the members of WPNJ to decide what to do with this information.	The following articles may be in need of attention: Featured Article candidates: none currently Good Article nominees: U.S. Route 30 in New Jersey Hudson County Courthouse
Municipality template compromise; School Districts (almost) complete	New WPNJ members
Legislative templates in municipal articles - A rather lengthy discussion ran from the end of August until the end of October regarding the use of our legislative district templates in articles about local municipalities. Many WPNJ members commented on the concept, and a proposed compromise seems to have been reached. The templates will require some adjustments to fit the new wording, but should result in more directly relevant sections about County, State, and Federal representation in our articles on cities, towns, villages, townships, and boroughs. Hopefully, more dicussions like this can result is some kind of Manual of Style to bring greater standardization to all of these articles. School District articles now comprehensive - WPNJ Founder Alansohn recently reported that almost all of New Jersey's school districts now have articles - "I have created the article for the last missing (non-vocational) school district in the state." Congrats to Alansohn, who I am sure would love more members at the Education task force to help maintain these articles! New Statistics Table There has been an upgrade to the WP 1.0 bot that updates our project's summary table. The new table lists all page classes including Portal-class, Redirect-class, and Disambig-class. We now have a better picture of the scope of the WikiProject and the pages that we cover. New York Times to charge for access The New York Times is an invaluable resource for properly referencing articles, but especially due to its extensive archives and coverage of New Jersey issues. The announcement that metered content will be started in 2011 has the potential to make article sourcing much more difficult. It also causes a need to update linked sources in articles before all of the NYT links go dead. Any link can be archived on demand by using WebCite. We can help avoid dead links by archiving any article sources from the NYT. All BLP, All the Time	New WPNJ members
BLP Issue Boils Over There are discussions all over the 'pedia about deleting close to 50,000 unreferenced Biographies of Living People. We won't get into a rehash here, but let's just look at what we can do. There is a new item on the project task list for sourcing BLPs. All articles that are in both Category:People from New Jersey and Category:All unreferenced BLPs are now available on this work list. These articles need to be sourced, PRODded, or sent to AfD. An ounce of prevention Unreferenced BLPs are one of the catgories regularly listed in the WPNJ Cleanup listing. New articles are also a prime location to find articles that do not yet have references. You can keep an eye on the New Articles list to help prevent the workload from getting any larger. Can we do more? There are bots that will automatically add the WPNJ Project Banner to all articles in our designated categories if we have consensus to request it. Join the discussion here. New Leaders in NJ Government Over the past 2 weeks, new legislators have been sworn in, the legislature has new leadership, the 55th Governor of New Jersey has been inaugurated, and we have our first Lt. Governor. All new members of the Legislature have at least stub articles, and many of the templates have been updated. Updating templates Many New Jersey articles utilize stadardized templates to convey information. With elections happening as often as they do in this state, January is always a good time to review these templates and update them with new information. Does your town or county have new elected officials? It's maintainance time on many of our articles on municipalities and counties as well. Geotables and Chester NJ

I like the concept, but the formatting really stretched the article as it has to line up below the infobox. Is there a way to make it narrower (or maybe we move geography later in the article).Mattnad (talk) 15:00, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm planning an expansion of article to include a "History" section. I ran into a similar problem as the geo table when I included a weather table [2]. Until there's more upfront content to push that table down, I'll leave it out.Mattnad (talk) 14:47, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Re:CR 612

That was done at the request of User:Mitchazenia. CR 612 was merged there as it is the continuation of Route 32. There are other examples of this in NJ such as County Route 638 (Atlantic County, New Jersey) redirecting to New Jersey Route 87. Dough4872 00:11, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

CR 612 vs. NJ 32

No matter how it goes the plan is that CR 612s article will cease to exist, I suggested NJ 32 because its a better merge target over the county route lists. This is not entirely unprecedented, such as New York State Route 101 or New York State Route 178 having CR segments covered in SR articles. I live in Middlesex County, I've been on the entirety of CR 612, I know how it runs. However, we had to get rid of the article some way or another. CR 638 and NJ 87 also is a combination that works. New York Metro Area bridges

Thank you for your input into the New York Metropolitan Area article as well as on my talk page - you appear to be an expert in transportation in New Jersey. I am, however, restoring the Driscoll bridge as well as the Tappan Zee Bridge (and adding the Newark Bay Bridge, upon your mention), as well as a couple of other Hudson Valley bridges, because these are integral bridges within the NY Metro Area. The fact that they don't connect to the five boroughs of New York City (which has its own article) is irrelevant. The whole idea behind my revision of the New York Metro Area article, surprisingly sparsely detailed beforehand, was to clearly differentiate the Metro Area from the City itself. Therein, if you are also an expert in major Westchester, Long Island, and/or Western Connecticut bridges, plese feel free to add them to the list. NJTP ramp opening dates

Hello, as possibly informative as including the dates when ramps were reconfigured might be, it makes the overall article inconsistent because the dates for the reconfigurations for many other interchanges aren't listed. I reverted the changes because of this inconsistency. In particular, there is no significant need to mention the "new ramps" at Exit 7A because the new interchange is essentially the same as the old interchange as far as connections go. Turnpike Widening change from future tense to past tense

Sometimes, it seems easier to spend billions widening tens of miles of the New Jersey Turnpike than to update the affected articles to indicate that the work has been completed. Knowlton Township, New Jersey and other corrections of NJTPA to DRJTBC

The mileage data lists mileage overseen by authorities without specifying the agency. In most cases the New Jersey Turnpike Authority is the body in question, but that's not always true. Despite my best efforts to list the correct agency, some slipped through the cracks and I thank you for the corrections as at Knowlton Township, New Jersey and other articles, especially where it is blindingly obvious that the Turnpike or Parkway don't even come close.
