September 2022 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you recently removed maintenance templates from St. Joseph's College, Wattala. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Recent edit reversion edit

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 15:01, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

I figured out out caused the copyright violation. I straight copied and pasted the history section from the official college website. No your edit wasn't a mistake and that's for your service! MihirNak007 (talk) 16:00, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Source reference problem edit

Regarding a information source problem.

I am working on an article about St. Sebastian's Church, Enderamulla, Wattala, Sri Lanka. It's not so popular in online articles. It's very hard to find references online. There's actually no articles about it online except for their official Facebook page. Almost all the information I got for my working article is from their 100th jubilee magazine. Where they had the history informations of the church, parish, priests and the land. I want to know a way to continue this article. Is there a way to make this happen? MihirNak007 (talk) 16:17, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

References do not need to be online. If you have printed materials such as books in a library, that's fine. If there are no independent reliable sources with significant coverage of this church, however, there cannot be a Wikipedia article about it. 331dot (talk) 17:36, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
A magazine put out by the church would not be an independent source. 331dot (talk) 17:37, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of St. Anne's Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Wattala edit

The article St. Anne's Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Wattala has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:MILL institution. Fails WP:NSCHOOL. The sources present are either primary or school/college databases.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Speedy deletion nomination of National seminary of Our Lady of Lanka edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on National seminary of Our Lady of Lanka requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://hiseminary.wordpress.com/history-2/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Colombo Scouts moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Colombo Scouts, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 21:31, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
