Block of school address

You blocked this IP on 23rd of may for 99 hours. This is the IP (61.69.12.19) of my school's computer labs, is there any way to block anon editing whilst allowing legit users (such as myself) to contribute? Also, 99 hours is more han 4 days!, this IP will probably always cause trouble, but can you keep future blocks to <2 hours or so (the time in the computer room is divided into 1 and a half hour blocks). I would also like to say thast i acknowledge that a lot of junk comes from this IP, but i really want to edit during the boring lessons. MichaelBillington 08:17, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello Michael. To the best of my knowledge, Wikimedia does not allow any type of "whitelist" when the underlying IP address is blocked for various reasons. You may want to try connecting to Wikipedia using the secure link at https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Special:Userlogin but I cannot guarantee that this will resolve the problem. (I have received reports that this is a work around solution, but can be slow at times.) In any case, if the vandalism from your school persists, please have your system administrator contact me at the email address posted on my user page and we will work this out through our WP:ABUSE resolution process. Please substitute templates

Hello MichaelBillington. When you use template tags on talk pages, it'd be much appreciated if you could substitute according to the guidelines at Wikipedia:Template substitution. You created Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Manbeast, it that a DELETE vote at the top of the page. If so then this is 3-0 to delete, otherwise 2-0. Only the very start of this debate and the result seems clear. I informed the author of the voting but he hasn't yet added his own vote. This one is going to be DELETE for sure. Hi Michael, unfortunately this article is in Chinese, so I can't understand much of it. However, it does look like it's mostly about someone's university career, so I doubt it's notable enough to be cross-wikied on to the Chinese Wikipedia. I was startled when I saw how many edits you have clocked up over the last two months. You have made around 650 edits in the last two months alone. Turbo C++

In response to your question, you can get Turbo C++ 3.0 from here. I haven't seen 4.5 for download but a quick google search should find it for you. I use turbo C++ because my internet connection is too slow for me to download a better compiler, but if you have broadband then I suggest you check out something better. Turbo C++ is rather old, and it can't compile the latest code, so if you wan't to get a recent compiler that is free, there is a list here that you may be interested in. IMDb

Hi Michael, just wondering about your IMDb = notability standard, especially given your contradicting votes at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Formula (2002) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Peter Haynes. IMDb attempts to include all actors, films, tv shows, crew members etc. and is, in that regard, an indiscriminate collection of information. It is also a commercial site where anyone can pay to become listed, either for "involvement" in something they came up with themselves, or by buying a credit, for example the 4,500 "producers" of The 1 Second Film, who paid $1 for their status.

Basically, having an IMDb listing does not in anyway guarantee notability, it is simply the case that a great many notable people are listed in IMDb. Using this as the sole criteria to keep ignores WP:BIO and the other established notability guidelines. I hope you see where I'm coming from? nice one, Deizio talk 13:56, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Incase you haven't seen by my voting habits, i'm mainly an inclusionist, so I look for any excuse to keep a page. I never knew IMDB was commercial though; it's like i've been citing the yellow pages in AfD! (though slightly different) Anyway, you probably want to read: User talk:WCityMike#People's Comments on My AfD Votes, he's been deleting stuff at a rate of 50E99 pages a day for a while, I hope he never makes admin or the encyclopedia will be halved! To keep with my inclusionist values (no it isn't a religion) I voted keep on a whole tonne of things he nominated yesterday based on 2 things: google hits & IMDB listing. You are robably right in saying it doesn't gain a page notability, so I suppose I should do my research next time, eh? Sweet - open, considered inclusionism is a wonderful thing. As for Mike, he hasn't been deleting stuff, rather nominating stuff for deletion - personally I think it's great to see someone who believes in AfD enough to list all those articles, whose future will be decided by the community. He's also clearly happy to be "wrong", too many editors don't list articles for deletion for fear they will be kept. While excessive deletionism will put a lot of people off in an RfA, plenty of deletionist admins are able to be entirely neutral when making final decisions about AfD, speedies and prods - any admin who acts out of process, in pursuit of inclusionism or deletionism will be quickly noticed. Impostor?

I thank you for notifying me. User creation log indicate the account in question was created by User:Coola1800 at 21:15 hours UTC on 22 June 2006. Same log indicate that account for User:Coola1800 itself was created quite some time ago at 20:27 hours UTC on 27 April 2006. Neither user has any edits.

Judging from the absence of other accounts, I conclude that these are not created from the use of a public computer or a proxy which would be expected from an impersonator.

Creating multiple accounts without using either is strange to say the least but so far nothing implies impostoration. Hence we should treat him like a legitemate user. Haveing said that, staying vigilant would be a prudent course of action. I'll watch "both" of them for a while.

Hi manicalmonkey, i saw your message. if you want to, you can add an article to the encyclopedia about INSERT linux, but links don't really help out much (you may want to read this page). I think a good way about adding info to the encyclopedia would be to write a page about INSERT, and then add it to Category:USB distro, which is a full liust of all distros that can run from USB (although not yet complete). Hello! i saw your message on my talk page, but then I saw your user page. Unfortunately, we can't currently give this tool to anyone who has navigational popups installed. We had quite a large problem on the main page when an administrator was taking MWT for a test drive. See here for proof. We recently managed to find that the problem was related to navigational popups being installed (note the dit summary). As soon as we can fix this i'll get you a copy. until then, adios! Reversion of Regis Philbin vandalism

When you removed "a ton of crap" from the Regis Philbin article, you removed much more than crap. You removed several sections, cats, and other languages. I know you mean well, but be cautious whenever you fight vandalism to not overdo it. --Tinlinkin 03:01, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh well, better point it out then:

page says: "Cable spaghetti can be reduced or even eliminated with a properly designed and used cable management system. However, due to the nature of the work being a time consuming trial-and-error process, few users bother or attempt it."

Then, lower down, says: "Cable management systems are extremely popular and widely used for things such as data centers, which have a massive number of computers in a small space. Cable management is included in many racks and things such as raised floors or overhead cable conduits mean more options in the placing and interconnection of cables."

Bot Idea

I have an Idea for a Bot. When coderwiki gets big enough, i'm going to need a bigger server, so i'll at that point set up namespaces and perhaps a bot could be written to move all the documents from coderwiki.com to coderwiki-almostlive.com and then at last minute, i switch dns.
