My name is David C. Bradley. Thank you for the edits you made to the page in my name. I need advice because the large number of rules has me quite confused. Please let me explain.

Someone wrote a page about me some 10-15 years ago. I never knew who it was; they had detailed knowledge of my career but didn't know where I was born, for example. I never edited that page or any other wiki page.

For a decade or so it said at the top of the page, "This is a stub, please help us add detail," or something along those lines. I felt weird about doing this myself, and no one ever offered. Until recently when a man who has worked for me and with me for some years offered to update the page. He has been the manager of hundreds of people and he knows my history, and he knows of my contributions to neuroscience and more recently speech engineering.

He also admires me, so before the second "flag" appeared I asked him to remove sections that were too complimentary or opinionated. There is probably more to do. Being a scientist I know how to "neutralize" a statement, but I don't if I should do this myself or continue to make suggestions to him.

Because nothing can be said without a reference, my colleague cannot mention that the citation rate of my papers, instead of dwindling, has increased in the ten years since I left neuroscience. That's a rare phenomenon and it suggests and important and lasting influence. Nor can he mention the complete transformation of speaker recognition technology I made by modeling the visual motion system. He can't reference the bank that is going to install it, and do away with passwords, in its branches all over the world.

I don't require that these things be mentioned; I only wish to clarify that this is not a friendly gesture.

There may be some confusion because after my colleague wrote a first draft, he was concerned about the writing, so he sent it to my sister for editing. She tried to upload it. It's been a mess.

I also had my colleague strip out any claims that couldn't be validated by reference. However I (he) will do whatever is suggested to make it right. I'm sorry for the trouble, and thank you for the quick assistance. LanceDiamond78 (talk) 03:37, 21 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

David/LanceDiamond78,

I came across your page on a suggestion queue by Wikipedia, and edited it to the best of my ability. I'm honored to have a Wikipager reach out to me. For suggested edits and formats, I posted some guides on your profile's talk page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:David_C._Bradley. Give a quick overview on them and it should help. If you or others need help for editing your own page, Tone, POV and sources, try looking around for a similar person's page and use that at an example. Wikipedia is all about citations and sources, so sadly only verifiable statements are allowed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability

If you have more questions, I would reach out to the community or add a "Request Edit" tag to your talk page for more support.
