Welcome! edit

Hello, Loribaker2757, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Arizona Department of Transportation, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Thank you for at least disclosing your affiliation with ADOT.
Please do not directly edit the article, though. You may propose changes on the article's talk page using {{Edit COI}} or via the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard. –MJLTalk 19:02, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

January 2024 edit

You were out of line to delete the discussion at the Teahouse where I took the time to write a detailed response. That is disrespectful of my work as a volunteer. Please do not do anything like that again. Cullen328 (talk) 22:56, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I apologize. I never edited anything on Wikipedia before. I am just trying to update outdated information, which originally was posted by someone else in 2016. Loribaker2757 (talk) 23:06, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
To be clear, Wikipedia and its volunteer editors do not care about what your agency says about itself, or what your agency wants to insert into Wikipedia. We care only about what reliable sources entirely independent of your agency say about it. Promote your agency all you want on your own website, but do not try to promote your agency on Wikipedia. It is not permitted. Cullen328 (talk) 23:08, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your response. How can outdated information be updated so it's accurate? An example is removing a reference to someone currently leading a division when the person no longer works for the agency. Loribaker2757 (talk) 23:14, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you have a news article about the most recent appointment(s), that'd be wonderful. Failing that, a press release or agency website could be sufficient only if it is only being used to cite who works at the department in leadership roles. It depends on a few factors, but I hope that helps!  MJLTalk 23:27, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much. Loribaker2757 (talk) 23:31, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Two points: Why should the head of a division even be mentioned on Wikipedia? That is the purpose of your website. Normally, we only mention the two or three most senior executives in any notable organization on Wikipedia. Secondly, you should be making formal, well-referenced edit requests at Talk:Arizona Department of Transportation. Cullen328 (talk) 23:39, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia already has text with a head of a division. I want to remove that reference because he no longer works for the agency.
I also would like to add who the current director is and I will provide sources for that information. I really appreciate you explaining how things work. Loribaker2757 (talk) 23:51, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for your response. My goal is to update the existing Arizona Department of Transportation text to replace outdated information with current information. I will work on rewriting the content in an encyclopedic manner and I will find secondary, reliable sources for the information that I am submitting.
