2020 European Masters

Hi Lee - nice work as ever. I have left a couple of comments on the DYK nom page regarding a couple of tweaks; nearly ready for "ticking" though. Cheers, Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 14:11, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

cheers, I'll take a look. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:54, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

No help just a comment

Thanks again for your help - if only all Wikipedians were as friendly and kind. Over the years the number of difficult or even nasty editors has really worn me down to the point of rarely wanting to do any editing even where it seems innocuous. I've had several encounters with prolific nastiness that I just feel more than ready to throw in the towel. Someone started editing over me today while I was fixing something and I sent a message asking them to "hold their horses" til I could finish the edits and they deleted it and added a very unpleasant revision note. Trying to do things right can feel utterly pointless. (As I said not the first bit of nasty I have encountered.) I'm going back to lurking now. Thanks again and thanks for all the help you consistently provide on help pages. --gobears87 (talk) 22:16, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

ah gobears87, not everyone is on Wikipedia to assume WP:GOODFAITH. People get riled for all sorts of silly reasons. If you ever want to lessen the chances of an edit conflict, put the {{in use}} template on whilst you are completing a series of edits, and then other editors know you are updating an article.

If you get into an edit conflict, you don't lose your data and until you leave the page. If you scroll to the bottom, all of your edit is still there, so you can just copy it back into the revisioned version. In this way, you are better to not ask users to change their own edits, but rather follow WP:BRD if there is an issue with an item being added. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:04, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Sigh... including some admins it seems, Lee Vilenski which is pretty sad... thanks for the tip about the 'in use' template, though I did see it says "major edits" and I was doing minor stuff. The admin just had SO little patience that they started reverting me while I was sourcing something they TOLD ME to source (which was fine, long story). I asked pretty politely for time to finish on their talk page and boy did they jump down my throat. Then deleted what they said and apparently hid it? I see things in my watchlist I'd never seen before. More sighs. Anyway it can be such a war zone around here that I will avoid in future... I appreciate the time and kindness of so many of you though! --gobears87 (talk) 16:00, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Hmm, I think I found what you are talking about. I don't think the "Styles" section is particularly worth it's own section, we usually have post-nominals in the lede. Although an administrator deleting their own edit summaries is a bit beyond me. For what it's worth the tile Evelyn Sharp, Baroness Sharp should be changed for Evelyn Sharp (baroness) or similar. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:54, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Slow to see this - yeah I don't think it was really that necessary but I didn't add it, and I thought the deletion seemed weirdly unnecessary. You're right about the title, but I decided I'm not going to monkey around with the stuff I don't know how to handle as well! Thanks again for your input & friendly manner! --gobears87 (talk) 19:44, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Twofingered Typist great work as ever! Was a great event - now well written!
As an aside, do you know if there is a script to check for double spaces in prose? I spotted you added one by accident, but it'd be a good tool if it existed. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 19:27, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
You're very welcome. Sorry about the extra space! I am unaware of a script to check for this, but any extra spaces do not appear on screens when the article is being read by a WP user. You might leave a query at the Teahouse; they'll know if a tool exists. Cheers, Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:48, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello Lee Vilenski/Archives/2020,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.
