Proposed deletion of Stèphano Sabetti

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Stèphano Sabetti, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

clearly lacks notability and is more of an advertisement, anyway.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. bender235 (talk) 17:43, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Stèphano Sabetti

edit

A tag has been placed on Stèphano Sabetti, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 04:07, 4 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your message on my talk page

Thanks for the message. I can understand your frustration - there are a lot of policies and guidelines to get to grips with. Just a few points: first, you have not be "blocked" from editing - a block is a pretty serious sanction and you have done absolutely nothing to warrant that. What happened was that your user page was deleted because it contained material that was deemed by the deleting admin not to comply with WP:UP as being promotional. Second the Stephano Sabetti article was deleted for being too promotional in tone -- even if that was not your intention, that is how the article read. Sometimes there is a very fine line between an acceptable article and a PR piece. Third, you can ask the deleting admin undelete the article and "userfy" it -- ie put it on a subpage of your user page -- User:LEMspare/Stephano Sabetti for example-- where you can work on it without fear of deletion. When you think it's ready to be moved to the mainspace, solicit comments on the Help desk or the New contributors' help page before it is moved. Before you work on it, please have a look, or look again, at WP:YFA, WP:Bio and WP:RS for guidance on some important policies and guidelines. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 14:03, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the message. I have taken a look at the draft article, and I still don't think it's ready for the mainspace. It still reads like something you would find on the guy's website promoting his ideas and work and the tone is not encyclopedic. Just a few examples: the use of circle-R; there is way too much detail about his "Contributions", teachings etc; but the main problem is the lack of clarity as to how the sources that are mentioned demonstrate his notability (his own books are not reliable sources for notability). Even if the article survived a speedy deletion nomination, without any reliable sources, it will almost certainly be deleted following an Afd debate. I would be happy to move the article to the mainspace if you wish (or you could do it yourself, you probably have enough edits to be autoconfirmed), but I cannot with any certainty say that it will not be deleted again. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 17:46, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello again LEMspare. Thanks for dropping by my talk page. I agree on all fronts with Ukexpat. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but the article still reads like an advertisement; it has no inline citations to any reliable sources; other than some of the sources listed as general references (which do not appear to actually be references but simply a list of publications which have in some way mentioned Sabetti), it references only primary sources, and they all appear to be self-published by Sabetti through his company Life Energy Media (LEM), which strongly implies to me that you have a conflict of interest in seeking to write this article.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:02, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the follow up message. Certainly fixing the Contributions section as you suggest will help with the tone of the article. As for references, there really isn't much I can add to Fuhghettaboutit's comments above -- primary sources such as his own works are not reliable sources when it comes to demonstrating notability. What you will need are references from sources other than the subject and LEM, for example well respected journals that go into detail about his teachings etc, press reports etc. The key thing to remember is that notability requires "significant coverage" - a passing reference is not enough. Conflict of interest is not an insurmountable problem. For example, if there are any criticisms of Mr Sabetti in scholarly journals thaey would provide some balance to the article. Hope this helps - please feel free to let me know if I can be of further help. – ukexpat (talk) 14:13, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
