Your submission at Articles for creation

Thank you for your recent submission to Articles for Creation. Your article submission has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. Hi Bonkers the Clown,
I am a review for AfC and was not the person submitting this AfC. I was involved, upon a request posted on the help desk by the author, to help with formatting, but that was it, I did not submit the article for review. Please post on Barbara Weiss Esq's talk page to inform her of decline of her submission, thanks. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 09:45, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Oops.... Argh, these "useful and handy" gadgets screw up many a time. Apologies, though I did not manually send you this; some AfC script did. What happened? Cheers. Bonkers The Clown (Nonsensical Babble) 10:44, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Damn, I use this script as well haha >_> I can't be bothered fixing it if it happens to me too. I guess it just takes the last person who edited it and post on their wall? Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 12:09, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

I promise to not mess up your talk page again

I changed my article under "Psychological and Sociological Issues Affecting Expeditionary Space Missions" in response to the editorial comments in the following ways:

  1. The style is more encyclopedic, and subjective information has been deleted.
  2. As a result, the article is shorter, and the title has been changed to reflect the content.
  3. The references have been put in ref/ref format.

Stub templates do not count as categorization, as they're temporary "categories" for project maintenance which will eventually be removed from the article. An article is not properly categorized until it's been filed in at least one real end user content category which is declared directly on the article itself in the form [[Category:(something)]], and not artificially transcluded by a maintenance template. Your edit to Tom Daley

Hi. I've unaccepted the edit you did yesterday to the article on Tom Daley. The reason is that I have several reservations about some of the entries you put in the table, i.e.:

1) What are the "Harold Awards"? I think you may mean the Herald Awards from the Plymouth Herald newspaper, but can't be sure. The only Harold Awards I know of are a Canadian theatre award.
2) He certainly did not win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2010; he may have won the South West regional BBC Sports Personality of the Year, but that is a different thing.
3) UK Kids Choice Awards - British award, so British spelling of "favourite" please. Personally have my doubts that this and the Teen Radio 1 awards should be listed at all, as they're not at all important.

Regards, -- Arwel Parry (talk) 17:05, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Arwel, the table is not my own creation, it was another author's. S/he create a new page with just this table, and I simply moved it to the Tom Daley page (where it is more relevant) and asked the original author to make further edits on there. The user can be found here and I think it would be beneficial to explain to him/her on her talk page the same explanation you provided me. Many thanks! Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 17:31, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure you did not intend to do this, but apparently Twinkle messed up on you and created two identical AfD discussions for Companygonj Bodiul Alam High School. I have gone ahead and placed a G6 CSD tag on the second discussion and removed it from the 4 March AfD log. Cheers, —KuyaBriBriTalk 16:07, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the head up, and no I didn't know what happened?! Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 17:35, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
I'd just blame Twinkle. Maybe you unintentionally clicked something twice, or something out of your control happened that caused the script to run twice. It happens. Best, —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:24, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited ICP8, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages ATP, Transcription and Viral (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi Kinkreet,

Thanks for alerting me to this problem with the Japanese version of GoogleTrans. I've just updated it with the new version which will not show you that message. I've quickly tested and it seems to work okay. (Unfortunately, the "translate next sentence" doesn't seem to work well since it selects the whole page instead of the next sentence (because of the lack of periods in Japanese) Please tell me if there is any other changes you need in GoogleTrans gadget.

/* Fixing this page title to Vysochanskij-Petunin inequality */

I have read your comments with regards to using name Vysochanskii as the most appropriate one in the article title. What can I say. As you may guess English is not my mother tongue, but I have been living in the English speaking country for 20 years. I have seen hundreds of Russian and Ukrainian family names that have the same ending as Visochanskii (as you suggested ) I have never ever seen such a spelling in my life. Maybe it appeared just recently and I am not aware of it. As I already mentioned I personally knew Dmitri Fedorovich Visochanski for many years, so I know his name in Russian very well and the article in Russian Wikipedia bears a correct name. I raised the issue with English translation only because it looks ridiculous to me. If it does not for English community it is OK. Anyway English does not have an equivalent sound for the ending of this name and for native English speaking person it is very difficult and nearly impossible to pronounce it correctly. And please do not forget that when the article containing this inequality was translated first in English the translator used the name Vysochanskij

Gchoul (talk) 15:48, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

I have no preference for the article personally. I am only looking at this from the objective point of view.
The point about you knowing the professor personally, is exactly what Wikipedia tries to avoid, as outlined here, more specifically, this statement "Do not add unsourced material from your personal experience, because that would make Wikipedia a primary source of that material".
Personally, I don't really care what the title is, and I don't think many people do, if so they would have voiced an opinion. And I don't want to criticize anyone, but I think a page move should have only been conducted after looking at the guidelines, and not just because someone requested it. That was always my primary concern. I am no expert in this area. I've made my point about using the common name, and I'd like to gracefully bow out of further debates, because I don't think I have any more to contribute to the discussion. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 16:38, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Agree with you 100%. To put it simple I requested the name change to Vysochanskij not because I personally like it but rather having in mind a consideration that you mentioned.Wikipedia is built first and foremost on reliable sources. The most reliable source in English which actually is used in the references of this article:

D. F. Vysochanskij, Y. I. Petunin (1980). "Justification of the 3σ rule for unimodal distributions". Theory of Probability and Mathematical Statistics 21: 25–36.

Please agree that it is not a good idea to have 2 different spellings of the name in one article even if it had it for 9 years

Your article on Progeroid syndrome

Have been looking at your article Progeroid syndrome was thinking of copyediting. To me there is a glaring mistake but perhaps I'm wrong? You state that the Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome is a Progeroid syndrome and also give a section over to this.....but the HGPS is the main type from which the others the progeroid syndromes are likened to ?? Thanks Iztwoz (talk) 17:41, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Yes, HGPS is a type of progeroid syndrome. Progeroid syndrome is roughly defined as a disorder of accelerated aging. HGPS is just the best-studied, and so most progeroid syndromes are likened to it, and it has the name 'progeria'. But there are many types of progeroid syndrome, many of which are much less studied. Does that answer your question or have I missed something? Many thanks! Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 19:49, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
This is how I see it: progeroid is an adjective meaning that it resembles or is like progeria. HGPS is the later name given to the congenital disease progeria.
These other syndromes are so called because they have similarities to HGPS (here the PS stands for progeria syndrome). Progeria has a cause which is known to be a point mutation on the LMNA gene. UNLIKE .....Werner's syndrome, Cockaynes syndrome or xeroderma pigmentosum which are caused by defective DNA repair. This is on the Progeria page under Cause. Thanks Iztwoz (talk) 22:05, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
I am unsure as to exactly how the names of these disorders arose, but progeroid simply means resembling old age. I think it is because HGPS is so common that is has been commonly referred to as Progeria, to give it its common name. Progeroid syndromes do not have to resemble HGPS. On the Progeria article, it is not wrong in saying "Unlike "accelerated aging diseases" (such as Werner's syndrome, Cockayne's syndrome, or xeroderma pigmentosum), progeria is not caused by defective DNA repair." Because progeria (HGPS) is not caused by defects in DNA repair, but other progeroid syndromes are. There are no contradictions here. (although the "accelerated aging diseases" is inaccurate). Again, many thanks. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 23:35, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Please refer to this article on the NCBI website, from which you can read the abstract, which explains better than I am able. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 23:38, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Kinkreet, thank you for interest in the account creation process. I have verified your Identification [1] and I have approved your request, welcome to the team. You may now access the interface here. Before you do so, please read the account creation guide and our username policy thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process. You should also join us on IRC #wikipedia-en-accounts connect on where a bot informs us when new account requests come in and to get any advice on requests as well as the mailing list. Please note that we have implemented a policy of zero tolerance on mishandled requests, and that failure to assess correctly will result in suspension. I would like to emphasize that it is not a race to complete a request, and each one should be handled diligently and thoroughly. Currently you are allowed to create up to six accounts per day, although you won't be able to create an account with a similar name to that of another user; these requests are marked "Account Creator Needed" by the bot and "Flagged user needed" on the interface. However, if you reach the limit frequently, you can request the account creator permission at WP:PERM/ACC. Please keep in mind that the ACC tool is a powerful program, and misuse will result in your access being suspended by a tool administrator. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions. Thank you for participating in the account creation process. Again welcome! Mlpearc (powwow) 18:06, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Arctic cross

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Arctic cross. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Arctic Star. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Arctic Star – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Marjoleinkl (talk) 12:25, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Ammo (Musician) Deletion

(The following is a message I sent to Lankiveil but I'm sending to you as well in case you have any recommendations. Thanks!)

Hi there - I'm the creator of the original http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammo_(musician) page which you nominated for deletion. I'd like to ask for you to userfy it so that I can update it with better sources. I think the two main issues for this article is that, first, some of the original legitimate sources were deleted and, second, due to the nature of the name "Ammo" finding new sources is difficult unless you know exactly what to search for. Ammo is a producer and songwriter, so when googling, "Ammo producer" and "Ammo songwriter" will return much better results. Pls let me know best way to proceed. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Empty bottle1234 (talkcontribs) 14:19, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

It's good you're happy to improve on your article. I have no powers to fetch deleted pages but Lankiveil can, sohopefully he/she will sort that out. Rao Nara

Dear Kinkreet,

Thank you for your review of my article - "Rao Nara". How may I improve it so I may be accepted? Your specific comments are welcome.

Thank you,

MehrangarhMehrangarh (talk) 23:55, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi Mehrangarh, the problem I have with the article is that to someone not an expert at the subject, I don't understand what it is about. The lead section is suppose to introduce the topic of the article, yet at the moment it only says "Rao Nara (Hindi: राव नरा). He was of Rathore lineage.". I don't know what this Rathore lineage mean. Is Rao Nara a person, a family, a species? So OK, I read on, it says "Rao Nara plays a crucial role in the founding of Jodhpur. His father was Rao Samra, the Raja (King) of Nadole." Why is that significant?....so basically, try to make the article more friendly to people who don't know the subject. Introduce the subject first, and then tell us why Rao Nara is notable, and then use secondary sources to back it up. Good luck, it's a lot to take in, but you can follow the links on the banner in the AFC article, which will explain Wikipedia guidelines in more details. Again, good luck. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 00:01, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Kinkreet for the pointers and help! I will work on it. Mehrangarh (talk) 04:22, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Your e-mail

Hi there. I think you've picked up the wrong end of the stick with regards to my e-mail. If you look at the article in question Joe Dolan you'll see that I actually self-reverted and abandoned what had become a silly edit war over minutae (as you correctly noted). My concern was simply that the editor appeared to be making a lot of edits which were attracting attention but which seem to me to be in good faith. What I would like to see happen is for the editor to become aware of his own talk page and to engage with others. My hope would be that he would enjoy editing more and that the wiki would get more out of him. That's all. No complaint from me, no animosity, no adverse comments - nothing! Just trying to help someone who appears to be fairly new to the wiki, as others have helped (and continue to help) me. SonofSetanta (talk) 15:36, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your clarification, but please understand from a third-party point of view, it looks like you want someone to correct Larrywyse into 'better editing' (your way of editing. This, as you explained, is not the case, so I hereby apologize to you. Moving on to your concern for Larrywyse, Wikipedia has an adoption system, a help desk, IRC - there are a ton of sources for guidance available, if he/she so wishes to access them, he/she is able to. There is nothing you can do (and I don't think anyone should), to make someone edit more or contribute more, the point with Wikipedia is you contribute and engage in the community as much and as little as you want. At the moment I am on a semi-break, which means I am taking a break from Projects I was involved in and doing things outside of Wikipedia. But if you think Larrywyse wants to contribute but don't know how to, the best thing to do is to leave a personal message on his talk page, whether or not he/she sees it or not is a different matter, but you've done your bit to help. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 17:56, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
No I never wanted to bully the guy. I can see where I've been going wrong and have stopped that course of action. Now I just want him to have guidance so that his posts are more in keeping with the aims of the Wiki. I will leave a message for him and see what happens. My best guess hopwever is that he isn't aware of talk pages and how to interface and I was kind of hoping that a mod might be able to e-mail him and alert him to this facility. Thanks for your advice though, every little counts. SonofSetanta (talk) 12:54, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Invitation to help at training editathon at the Royal Society - March 25th

Hi, Would you be interested in helping new editors at this event - Wikipedia:WikiProject Royal Society/Diversity in Science Edit-a-thon, Royal Society, March 25, 2014? The whole event lasts from 2-9pm, but the key periods for helpers are about 2.45-5.20 and 6.60-9.00 pm, when they are all actually editing. An extra hand at any parts of these periods would be very useful. If you can make it, please sign up at the event page, & I will need your name for reception (can be kept private if that's an issue). Nice cake & sandwiches! Alternatively, if you can think of any other Wikipedians who might be able to do it, please pass on, or let me have your suggestions. Thanks, Wiki at Royal Society John (talk) 15:50, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello Kinkreet. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).
