Thanks Kethrus,

Apologies for not leaving a question earlier. I'm a bit new to this Wikipedia editing. I made a few edits years ago and one the other day. I'm still not sure of the protocols, etc.

My issue is that I'm kind of a bit peeved that Wiki Editor Bleaney (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bleaney has dis-approved or otherwise reversed my edit on a page concerning a School in Leamington Spa.

I am a webdesigner and all I did was to link the (previously unlkinked) name of the School to it's new website. The note left by Bleaney simply remarks "Not needed".

Can you help resolve this issue, please? I did think to approach Bleaney directly but I'm afraid I'm not sure how to.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

@Xpher: Instead of linking to the school's website on the list page, I advise you link to the wikipedia article of the school (if it exists). Hi.
Kethrus: You confirmed why there are so many mistakes on the Wikipedia, facts and writing: orthography isn’t relevant!, at least for you. Or is it because is a Spanish word about a Third World school? Would you say that it’s irrelevant if somebody writes Harbard or Ocsford?
Somebody finds a mistake or adds something and then arrives another one who reverts to the error or erases the new part. Many times, I and others I talked with, readers did not correct errors because it becomes a time consuming “battle”.
Primefac: I only applied scientific method that Kethrus didn’t do. If somebody changes something I wrote, first I would check if the other one’s modification is correct. If it’s wrong, I would explain why it’s not correct instead to commit the mistake again. And in any case I would not revert to the error a second time.
“please be CIVIL when dealing with other users. Personal attacks are never a good way to proceed”. Is it uncivil to ask why somebody committed an error? I think really uncivil is to revert an edition and not even say hello. You should apply that you say. Personal attack is to say I am not civil because I ask why somebody writes a mistake.
About orthography, I presume you agree it’s irrelevant because you didn’t say a word to Kethrus but did a personal attack to me.
If I employed US manners (I don’t presume or assume you are from that country) where a gallant word is considered harassment, I would say you are discriminatory, harassing, racist, etc. But it only makes me smile… and waste time.
“take any disputed edits to the talk page of the article in question”. Please apply that you say, again. Look at that page. Many times I could see people did not answer those questions, maybe because they did not return to the page, maybe because they didn’t subscribe to it. It’s why I did that I did.
“questioning other's intelligence”. I didn’t do that. I only questioned the knowledge on the subject: Spanish orthography and the school.

A question still is unsolved: Why Kethrus reverted a correct edition?

Legend Film 2015 - The Krays

Hi

I was adding a section about the inaccuracies of the film. Below is what I typed and please note it is backed up by an online review in The Guardian newspaper.

Maureen Flanagan, a close friend of the Kray family was interviewed by The Guardian newspaper about how accurate the portrayal of the twins in the movie was, and although she respected Hardy's performances as being more accurate than the Kemp brothers in the 1990 Kray's film she did question much of the storyline and relationship between the characters. The family of Frances Kray (nee Shea) were not happy with the portrayal of their family member nor were members of the Kray family on the inaccurate relationship between Reggie and Frances. Family members have stated that Reggie was more devoted to Frances than portrayed in the film and it was never known to either family that Reggie was ever physically abusive to her as shown in one scene in the film after a drunken Reggie confronts his wife in a bedroom. The murder scene of Jack "the hat" Mcvitie shows Jack taunting Reggie over the loss of his ex-wife and repeating her name which then triggers Reggie to murder him. There is no account of these words being spoken at all, and former gang members who were present in the room stated that Ronnie was encouraging his brother to finish Mcvitie off. The very final scene shows Reggie walking out of the house along a canal path when in fact he and his brother ordered their gang members to dispose of the body and calmly left together in a car. The ending of the film also shows the Kray's former financial advisor Leslie Payne seated dead in the back of a car, indicating that the twins had ordered his murder. I don't understand why the citations for this article are not sufficient to identify the subject as notable:

It has been documented in the San Diego Union Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and KPBS, as well as numerous websites relating to the California Missions. Would including these Mission-related websites as secondary sources be sufficient to meet the requirements?

Note that this subject also "connects" well with existing articles on El Camino Real California, Spanish Missions in California, and Camino de Santiago, each of which could reasonably link to the California Mission Walkers.

I really don't know what else I need to do here. I have looked at several other game pages here on Wikipedia with literally 1 reference to their game's store page, and 1 reference to their official website and they get approved. What am I doing wrong here? It is extremely frustrating, can you please elaborate what I am doing wrong? I am sorry, I am not trying to sound snide. I just don't understand how other pages are doing the same thing, and getting OK'd, but this submission is declined.

@Kethrus: I have seen game pages with one paragraph and a link to their store page and website, and they are cleared for Wikipedia. I just don't fully understand how notability works, I find it confusing. There is a reference to the game on Steam, their Website, and PCGamer. I have fixed the citations, so they better reflect the sources, 2 of which are for national newspapers in their respective countries. One you would have to verify through microfiche since it's too old, but that may be doable at the newspaper's HQ (still in print). I looked at the original spanish language wikipedia entry and there are a lot more reference material listed but it's mostly printed books that exist in europe and I have no way to access here in the US, so not sure how I could list or verify those? Thanks for any help... also should I just translate the spanish entry? I figured without having a way to check the referenced data it would not be possible for me to verify and hard for someone else unless they've collected all those books. Thanks again. Thanks for informing about the Notability of Academics. I studied that page and realized I should have added information pertinent to notability in academia. Therefore, I have added the information about James Storer being Department Chair (Notability criteria number 5) and also he being the Chair of the highest impact factor conference in Data Compression from 1991 to 2012, and Co-chair from 2013 to present, this is notability criteria number 8. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(academics)#Criteria

Let me know, what other changes I can make to make sure his notability is verifiable.

I should also like to point regarding him being the inventor of first Lunar Landar game, I have included many sources, articles, periodicals which cite the same. Also Wikipedia's page on Lunar Lander video game series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Lander_(video_game_series), already mentions his name (see section Lundar Lander (1969) "Lunar was originally written in the FOCAL programming language for the Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) PDP-8 computer by Jim Storer while a student at Lexington High School (Massachusetts) in the fall of 1969", but I have not cited wikipedia as source but cited the original sources that were cited in that Wikipedia article.

@Iamaaditya: When I reviewed the article, a lot of the sources only included trivial mentions (read). Although he did originally create the Lunar Lander game, I'm not sure that makes him notable just because the game is notable. I am a bit puzzled on what constitutes notable citations.

The press releases cited are from the beta release of the product a few years ago, would a newer one help ? Or do you need to see something specifically about the design approach of the product and its academic/industry relevance ? An example of what kind of citation would make this article more "notable" will help a lot.

I did read the golden rules, and as I understand the distinction : "press release" is something we put out to the press (sponsored, such as PR Newswire, etc.), and "press coverage" would be independent coverage by the press of the product. Correct ?

About Razed To The Ground

With all due respect, and I really do mean that, Facebook is the main source of information for bands like this. The band's record label- a very well established label- hasn't even updated their page in some time. However, they do take to Facebook to update fans on news. Speaking purely on the basis of a fan of all music, this is now the normal way of things for bands in certain genres. Just a couple of weeks ago another band I like announced the very unexpected broadcast of a new song they had not yet told anyone about. And they did it through a Facebook post. And really, that was it. I think it took over a week for it to be reported off of Facebook. And, like the band in my submission, the band's label only issued statements on Facebook.

I hope you see what I'm trying to say. If I were writing an article about- I'm just pulling something totally hypothetical- a new model of car Ford has announced, it would be very easy for me to just link to their website and any websites that may be partners of Ford and so on. It would be ridiculous of me to use Facebook as an anchor source. But this is a smaller genre of music, and the fans are very loyal, and, as one of those fans, I was just hoping to add more information for anyone out to see something new. The other sites I got information from and cited were sites which are more well known to those that listen to this spectrum of music. I also would like to note that the one with the track listings and album art is the website the band opted to give the information to, as did the record label. I'm not sure if that site was read, but that part is mentioned throughout the article and at the bottom of the page. There are also direct quotes from the band members to that article. So again, I hope I'm getting my point across about this. I did take the Facebook post away, but I do still think it is pertinent. At least for now, because I am not too sure how much more we are going to get until possibly after the release of the album.

And one last thing- I genuinely hope that this entry is being taken as an entry worthy of spreading, because there really are a good amount of people out there who can, and will, appreciate it. It always makes me happy when I can type in the name of whatever band or album and it comes up, because it didn't used to be like that. Bands like this or bands with small, but loyal followings, lightly distributed albums, or just anything along those lines- it would be deleted almost instantly. And it does breed a bit of contempt. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Wikipedia and its mission, but I do think it can sometimes be a little narrow minded in what its collective majority sees as being worthy of notation. I know that I feel that if something exists and is part of culture on a socially or historically relevant scale, no matter the size, it deserves to be included into such a vast collection of knowledge such a Wikipedia. The more knowledge, the better. And as long as there is honesty and conviction behind the submission, I feel like it should be given a chance. People use Wikipedia to enrich themselves with knowledge of all sorts, and even the smallest piece of information can spark a whole new interest, hobby, obsession, etc. And I say THAT... because it has happened to me quite a few times on Wikipedia. From very small entries.

Anyway - I've had a look at the relevant policy of facebook links as references, and have come to the conclusion that I was wrong in declining it, as it can be used as a source SOMETIMES. Thank you very much for hearing me out. I feel you were fair and open to what I was saying, and I do appreciate that. Please do know that as time goes on, I'll be adding new sources and, when the time comes, removing the Facebook post as a main post. I'd rather have it from the label's website, but, like I said, they haven't updated their news section in a while. Since July, actually. But they're very active on Facebook. So I'll add the label's official release on its own site whenever they get around to it. I think they add information in large batches at a time. • I reverted the article to a redirect since it didn't pass WP:NALBUM at this point in time. The problem with the sourcing in this case is that it appeared to be entirely WP:PRIMARY. Primary sources are anything that is released by people involved with the band. The band's Facebook page would be seen as a primary source and it can back up claims that the album will release, but it cannot show notability - which is ultimately what needs to be proven here. They can show that the album exists in some form or fashion (albeit unreleased), but existence does not mean that something is notable. The other sources were both press releases, one of which is clearly marked as such. Press releases are also seen as primary sources since they were written by the band's PR department in order to promote the album, and as such they're considered to be primary regardless of where they're posted. As far as using Facebook as a source goes, it can be used sometimes, but it's not usable as a source to show notability. At best it can be used to back up minor details such as someone claiming something on their Facebook page (like a celebrity announcing a pregnancy), but typically this should only be added if the Facebook post itself has been covered repeatedly in reliable sources like news outlets. If the content of the post wasn't covered anywhere, odds are high that the content isn't relevant enough for Wikipedia's purposes. • I also note that you accepted Miscreated without any true RS that could show notability and I've moved the article back to AfC. I could have nominated it for deletion via AfD, but moving it back to AfC would give it more of a chance of survival in the future - especially since it's very difficult for an article to get restored/recreated in the future if it's been through AfD. I've given a rundown of the sourcing on the article's talk page. I'm basically fairly concerned that you're accepting articles from AfC because I don't think that you are really familiar enough with the guidelines for reliable sources and notability just yet. I do think that you're otherwise a good editor with a lot of potential, but I think that you're just a bit too green at this point in time. Instead of AfC (which is a lot of responsibility even for more experienced editors), it would be better for you to work on some of the pre-existing articles, since that would give you a bit more of an overview on these guidelines. You might also want to look into going through WP:TRAINING or WP:ADVENTURE, both of which give an overview of Wikipedia policies. Yes, THE subject edited the page that was established by SOMEONE ELSE. By objective accounts, R. Baxter Miller is one of the leading African American critics of the late 20th and early twenty-first centuries. See BLACK SOUTHERN VOICES (1992) OR simply Google the scores of web pages that document the importance of his scholarship. The author Raoullah (sp?) is a libelous graduate student with a vendetta. Rather than discrediting a well-respected scholar, he dishonors himself.

It's libelous incompetence, and, you know, it's really sad.

I understand. If you are referring to the Kingston link, then it is best to examine it and decide what to do with it. Being a redlink doesn't mean removing it. It could mean an article yet to be created, and that is okay. In this case, it was a space needed after the comma to make it blue. Also, your revert removed references. Need to reinstate lost Wikipedia page "WISE 0535-7500".

This Wikipedia page used to exist, but was replaced by a redirect. I need to cancel the redirect and bring the original page back so that I can edit it. But I can't find the original page, all I can find is a translation of an earlier version of the original page into Chinese. https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/WISE_0535-7500 The Chinese version is lacking at least one line of text that used to be in the English version.

The lost English version may be hidden under a synonym, possibly "WISE J053516.80-750024.9" or "WISE J0535-7500".

It appears this article was moved because it didn't meet Wikipedia:Notability (astronomical objects). I suggest creating a draft and submitting it for review if you believe it now meets the notability guideline. --  Kethrus |talk to me 

I suspected as much. But this astronomical object has a parallax of 250, meaning that is exceedingly near, and new research gives its distance as 13.0 light years, which puts it slap bang in the middle of "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nearest_stars_and_brown_dwarfs", at position 31 unless other objects have wrong distances in that list. Every one of the astronomical objects on the List_of_nearest_stars_and_brown_dwarfs has its own Wikipedia article. It is also closer than at least eight other brown dwarfs that do each have Wikipedia articles of their own. In fact it's the only one of Marsh (2012)'s 11 Y and T dwarfs that doesn't have it's own Wikipedia article. Even worse, the link to this Brown Dwarf from the page to which it's redirected directs back to its redirection, giving a closed loop. The "WISE 0535-7500" Wikipedia page should never have been removed in the first place. I do not wish to create a new article from scratch where 90% of it ought to already exist in some archive. I do not wish to "submit it for review". I wish to edit it. Please bring it back immediately, or at least let me know that it has been permanently destroyed, in which case I will start from the Chinese translation. Looked into it. I thought such edits as displayed in the diff you linked were automatically skipped under "only whitespace is changed" (which is checked automatically by the application, I have not unchecked it). --  Kethrus |talk to me  05:46, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for finding the skip option, please think a bit more about it, as you've made a number of such edits too [4]. "Only whitespace is changed" is just one, extreme example of edits that should be skipped when using AWB. Materialscientist (talk) 05:59, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

I wasn't aware the diff you just linked was violating any policy either (at the time the edit was made - as I've seen other AWB users do exactly the same on multiple occasions), I'm also not sure how any controversial edits have been made (Rule 3), but I think it's best I leave it at this and stick to typo fixing. No slight intended - not saving (skipping) insignificant edits is the most important thing to know when using AWB. One can produce a large number of insignificant edits in a short time by loading a large directory into AWB, which may spam some logs (such as the Stiki queue I mentioned) and cover previous, unreviewed edits.
