In future, don't hesitate, just ask. Don't worry, I'll tell you when I am getting bored of you (I doubt I will^^).

You have to understand how CSS is structured. It's for structuring text around pictures, not aligning pictures. And text, in HTML, can only float around the picture on the left or the right side. I.e. if you create a <div>-container, you are telling the text "I am left, you float around me". "Center" would "confuse" the text because it would have to float at both ways. HTML is not planned to do that.

The solution I used works differently. The first container, the one on the left floats. The second one is positioned relative to it (using position: relative) and at a distance of "left: XX". You can use "position: absolute" (like I do on my userpage) to assign every container a fixed distance from the borders of the page (using the left:, right:, top: and bottom: attributes), maybe that looks better. You can try and play with it a bit. I'd suggest a reference page like this one for that. If you need any help or fail with what you want to do, feel free to tell me what you wanted to do and I will try to help you.

And: I don't mind stalkers, especially young, female, witty, nice ones (I'd add beautiful but I haven't seen a picture of you and I don't want to lie ;-) But I think it's probably true as well). So keep stalking :-D SoWhy 19:15, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Poor text, I was confusing it :-( Thank you for such a great (and fun!) explanation. Now I get it. When I have more time I'll try to use top: to get the things I want in a line at the top of the page. For some reason they are each spread out on a different line (the rollback, account creator, and dyk). I tried to copy some code from another userpage that had them all lined up, but it still didn't work as I thought it should, so I've left it for now. I'll examine the link you gave and see what I can do!

But since you said don't hesitate . . . perhaps you can help me get that barnstar away from the borders of the containers? It has {{clear}} (which sounds like it should work!), and I tried adding lots of lines, but that had no effect, lol. I just don't want it touching the line. Girls are so picky, :-)

I fixed it for you, {{accountcreator}} has a "both" switch for that (you need to become an admin soon, then you need only one flag ;-) and I used a table for the arranging). Also the space between the stuff and the barnstar. If {{clear}} does not work, use {{-}} instead, like I did here. Don't worry about being picky - I do have a girlfriend so I know how you girls are ;-)

Yay, you got them all lined up! Thank you! About the boxes though . . . maybe it's just my monitor, but it doesn't look right to me! You know how there was a large gap between the first container and the second, and a much smaller gap between the second and the third? Which was making it look uneven? Ideally, I want the gaps to be the same size, but without distorting the containers. So right now, the middle container is too long and narrow. That's what happened when I was trying to use columns. I also made the first one too small (because I didn't like the big graphics), so I've padded it out a bit (and made it transparent at the subpage).

Firstly thanks so much for your nice welcome message and for your help with creating subpages! It is easy and works perfectly. Your userpage is beautiful!!! Wow! All these userboxes, tables, colours, links, pages. I am jealous, I wish I could improve my userpages a little too. Just for my interest, why don't you create tabs? If I understand correctly this can be done (maybe I'm talking rubbish...)

The Divine Service Foundation

Hello, I would like someone to help me understand why this was deleted from my contribution. The Divine Service Foundation is a listed and charted charity in Pennsylvania, United States. I do not consider this as a service asking for money nor did it say that in the contribution begging or asking for money or any thing, but only stating what it was and how it came about. Whom had the right to delete this? Maybe you can help me out here ok? Floyd

Hi Floyd! I'm glad you were nicer to me than you were to Jimfbleak, :-) I wish I could help, but I am not an administrator, which means, unfortunately, that I don't have access to deleted content. I can't see the article in your contributions, nor can I see the deleted article. I won't be able to look at it and perhaps point out what parts of it might have been advertising. I see that you haven't had a response yet from Jimfbleak with his reasons for deleting it, and it may be that he just hasn't got around to it yet. On the other hand, you didn't exactly ask him for an explanation, just made a few unhelpful comments!

Perhaps I can suggest you contact SoWhy; he's a very helpful administrator who will probably be willing to look at the deleted article and explain what about it was advertising. Wikipedia has very strict rules because we strive to be neutral, which you have to admit is a good thing for an encyclopaedia, :-)

One last thing: whenever you post on a user's talk page (like mine, or SoWhy's) or on an article's discussion page, please remember to type ~~~~ at the end of your comment. It will "sign" your post, and it will make it much easier for people to identify you and correspond with you.

What brought you to the UK? I did something intriguing? Blimey, how did I manage that?! I didn't mean to be confusing. I was born late July so that "astrologically" makes me a Leo, but I never seem to fit those "profiles" that you read on dodgy astrology websites. I don't set much store by any of it, anyway, but I mention my zodiac sign because some people use it as a way to "identify" people. Which is also why I sometimes feel the need to point out that it doesn't fit me very well. I know, I could just not mention it altogether, right?

As for the UK—well, I've been here for a while now. Six and a half years ago the pound was doing great! And getting better, too. All was looking rosy at the time. Although comparitive economy certainly isn't the reason that I moved. I wanted to be in a better position to travel, particularly within Europe, and I've always been a bit of an anglophile. There are other reasons, too, some of them too personal to publicly proclaim, :-) The grand ideas about travelling have had to take a good kick from reality due to money constraints, but I still have hope! I guess from the absence of question on the subject that you have worked out my original citizenship. I try to avoid giving that away, so I've slipped somewhere. We'll keep quiet, shall we?

It's obvious that you've been around a fair bit; your list of countries is impressive. I'm extremely envious! Any particular reason you're settling in London at the moment? We've already established that the pound isn't making it look very attractive, :-) Maedin\^talk 14:28, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

"Blimey"? Either they still say that down in the West Country, or you're trying far too hard to fit in. :-D Just kidding. I have to say, I can't imagine that too many of the sort of people that contribute to Wikipedia actually use astrology to identify you... I'd like to think we have more sense than that! Six years now? Well you have me well and truly beat. I moved to London just over 3 years ago. Among many reasons, some of them were also of the personal variety. Similar reasons are keeping me here now, although not the same reasons that brought me here in the first place, if that makes any sense. Probably not. Intentionally cryptic! But yeah, the UK really is a bit of a travel hub and a great place to launch into trips to the Mainland, although you've probably found, like me, that it doesn't always work out that way, and you tend to fall into the rat race wherever you live! Money constraints is a big one. London is just so damn expensive, and I'm actually an IT contractor, which is the last thing you want to be doing in this economic climate, but for reasons even more complicated and personal, I can't take on a full time job - just contractual (no, I'm not an illegal!) Yeah, I think I've got your nationality figured out. Thats okay, I won't hold it against you. One of the original reasons for moving here was also of that nationality. ;-) So why London? Well, I guess you covered a lot of the reasons. London is the place to be, and certainly where all of the best jobs are (were). I'm certainly not London's greatest fan. Cost of living is really high (certainly compared to where *cough* you and I are from) and it really feels like a bit of a concrete jungle sometimes. Not many birds, trees, etc. It isn't all bad though, but I do think that one day in the near future I will want to go back home. If you've never been to Australia, you should sometime. :-) At times it can feel a bit devoid of history and culture, but on a day-to-day basis, it is a great country to live in. And as for my list of countries, it has barely been updated since I got here! I'm hoping to add to it with a big trip if/when I head home, but I will need to save considerably more before I could justify that! The stock market has ground into a pulp what life-savings I had put away. :-( Talk about bad timing... Oh well, we're still young and we have our health, right? Seriously, "blimey" is used down here a lot! It's quite surprising what you can pick up if you actually want to; I've assimilated into the South West so well, mostly without even realising it or trying to. My British accent is pretty well-developed, also, I just lose it whenever I go back home for a visit, ;-) I wouldn't mind living in London instead of in farmer country down here, but 3 years or so would probably be my limit, before I had to find a new city or get myself off to the country. I've been to London quite a few times "on the cheap", as I catch a bus early in the morning and spend the day wandering. I'd actually have seen more of London, too, if it weren't for those damn museums. I love museums, but they eat up time! I never can resist a good museum.

At least contractual work gives you flexibility; easy to miss the regular payslips, admittedly, but flexibility is nice, too, :-) IT contracting doesn't sound like such a bad thing with recession present, but as I don't really know what IT contractors do, my opinion isn't worth much. I've only ever worked where the IT is on-site and full-time. I'll avoid saying anything further on the subject lest I proceed to air my ignorance.

I've never been to Australia, but I would like to go. It's not very high on my list for exactly the reason you mentioned: history and culture. Which is why the US isn't on my list. There's too much of what I want on my doorstep with the entire European continent, and that's my first goal. Australia's nature is still a big attraction for me, though, which is why I have to get there some day, :-)

I hope you do get to return (and take a big trip at the same time); maybe it will come sooner than you think. In the meantime, though, you're absolutely correct, we have our youth and health and, despite non-travelling frustrations and non-existant money, things are alright, :-) Maedin\^talk 10:54, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

I do find the museums interesting, but it is a shame that they don't incorporate more information with the artifacts they show. I find the best way to approach museums is to learn a lot about what you're about to see, so you can then appreciate it when you see it in the flesh, so to speak. I always wander around and look at all these ancient and interesting things, but find that there is virtually no explanation for what it is I'm looking at, and I tend to zone out a bit. That's why I love Wikipedia. Sure, we're missing quality images for much of what is out there in the museums (I should really get out there with a camera one day to document it all better!), but at least you can learn more than you would from a blind trip to a museum. The British Museum is so full of ancient history, and yet falls so short of my expectations because of that lack of text to accompany it all. The Science Museum and Natural History Museum are better though, I must admit. :-)

I think my favourite geeky pastime in London is photographing the architecture and I guess it shows in my Wiki photos. One thing I have noticed is that it tends to stunt my photographic creativity a bit though, since the ideal encyclopaedic view of a building is geometically straight on ;-). I tend not to be that good at portraiture (I am proud of that photo of the Kayan girl in Thailand though) so I stick to photos where I don't have to interact with people too much. I prefer fly-on-the-wall photography! That photo that you took of the young buddhist boy is nice, too.

Well, I wouldn't say that contract work is the best way to ride through the recession, since there is a good chance that you could be out of work for long periods of time. Sure, there is a chance of redundancy if you work full time, but the vast majority of people will make it through unscathed. In fact, if you're in a stable full time job, you're more likely to actually benefit from the recession, as interests rates are unbelievably low, shops are discounting, etc etc. What I do is actually pretty similar to full time on site IT support. The only difference is that companies tend to bring you on for projects, or to replace full time staff that are working on projects etc. So I might work somewhere for 3 months or 6 months or whatever, but there usually comes a time to move on. Other than that, I still sort of actual like a regular employee - it isn't as though I'm working somewhere new every day.

Yeah, you're right about Australia and the US. I suppose every country has culture and history, though. Even Australia has a fairly interesting and 'colourful' history, albeit brief. It's just that ancient history and culture tends to be more exotic and interesting. I do love the wide open landscapes of the US and Australia. I've been wanting to visit the south-west of the US again for a long time. I love the landscapes of Utah and of course there are plenty of other beautiful National Parks out there that I've never been to, as well. I see that you like hiking too? I do like the landscapes of Britain, but I can't help but be slightly underwhelmed by them compared to the ones I've seen elsewhere, and they are rarely truly wild and unspoilt. ;-) Then again, I'm stuck here in London so what would I know? ;-) Technically I'm not actually in London (although I used to live there). Please stop with the templating!

I moved Dorothy Shepherd-Barron down to S, that's all. It seemed more appropriate there, as the surname is double-barrelled. Also, we don't make a practise of linking to French Wikipedia in other articles or lists, why here? I don't see that they add much in the way of value; a majority of readers will not be able to read French and the links are misleading. Also, red links do have a purpose, too. I understand that the French Wikipedia has, in places, more extensive tennis coverage than we do, but I don't think we should encourage linking to it. Do you have a precedent for this as a standard practise? The {{sortname}} template is a more tailored, suitable way to achieve the alphabetising in a sortable wikitable, and I don't see that the French Wikipedia should prevent us from using it. Well, it does seem a little more complicated than it did at first, admittedly! But that aspect wasn't a concern in this discussion, and results tables are more likely to be edited by multiple, various editors (who might struggle with it), than the list itself. Anyway, if mistakes are made, they can be fixed with no problem. It's a valid argument that using sortable wikitables is complicated enough already, and that doesn't stop us from using them, and using them to good effect. Maedin\^talk 07:51, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Sortable Wikitables don't actually need the template, regardless of what another editor may have said. We function just fine in all tennis articles without it. And I am convinced that the List of female tennis players is going to turn into one humongous mess very soon because no one will understand the template. I'd like your opinion: is it appropriate to call an article on the 1971 Virginia Slims Circuit WTA Tour 1971? Regardless of sponsor, the other yearly articles are called WTA Tour YYYY, but I am not sure whether we would say that the 1971 tour can be considered part of WTA Tour history. Your thoughts? Questions about Using Talk Pages

Maedin:

A few days ago I logged in to Wikipedia for the first time, and it seems that you were my welcoming committee. When I tried to ask a few questions, however, I was routed to the user talk page of Roux. Is that because people take turns fielding questions from new logins, and I got caught on the cusp of a shift change?

Yesterday I did my first edits on a page about "Ohlone" Indians, and it raised some questions. I wanted to join the dialogue with the on-going editors of that page, but I cannot find a nice box like the one I am writing in now (after clicking "talk to me" along the left side of your "my talk" page). How, or where, do I click in order to join a developing conversation or to document the reasoning behind a particular edit that I might make? Do I use the 'edit' function to change my 'user talk' page, or that of one of the editors of the article of concern, to an environment in which I can write messages?

Second, there seem to be two ways to build notes and refer them to references. One uses an 'up carrot' that I do not understand. Where do I go for 'notes' building help? (I come from the WISIWIG word processing world, all this markup is really difficult for me; perhaps I am being lazy in not clicking on every one of the myriad forks that lead to canned 'help'.)

Third and last, I gave myself the username "Middle Fork" but now see that the community uses single-word usernames (I probably read why somewhere, but I am not absorbing everything). Does really matter, and if so, can I change Middle Fork to Middlefork now?

Learning by Emulation

I am looking at your user page, clicking "edit" so I can see the markup for how you broke your page up into sections. (Duh, its just like any other article.) I got the notice you could be "watching" the intrusion, so thought I would explain.

BTW, I hope you are reading "Wikipedia Revolution." It occurred to me that any newcomer would get alot out of it, to understand the history and development of the etiquitte (or however you spell that word). I ran into some resistance to some removals I made, some really weak references, in one otherwise-good article. So I stayed friendly, shared my ideas directly with the person, Goldenrowley, including my reading of the Wiki directions for quality references, and obtained Goldenrowley's agreement. Now I think we will develop a good relationship, important because he has worked for 3 years on many articles I care about.

Fir's talkpage

I highly doubt it was an edit conflict since no one has edited Fir's talk page for over 3 hours nor a software glitch. To me seemed to be trying to stir trouble with Fir. I know when Wikipedia is having issues and it wasn't at the time you posted. Bidgee (talk) 17:14, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

I would not be intentionally disruptive, and I have no reason to be. Perhaps I edited an out of date version of the page accidentally. Method of Communicating with Anonymous Contributors

Hi, Maedin. Hope you are well. I have been contributing in minor ways to a number of articles over the last few weeks, and become a key co-contributor with a long time editor in one article. I have a question. Years ago, before I understood the logic and etiquette of Wikipedia, I read an article and anonymously (not be intention) sent a snarky criticism in on its talk page. I got a return email from someone that challenged me (nicely) to make the article better. I did not follow up until I finally read "Wipipedia Revolution" last month. Now, in two places, I have seen anonymous people leave criticisms, along with good suggestions for fixes, on article "discussion" pages. I would like to send them notes, like the one I received, inviting them to make some of the fixes they suggest. But they do not have their own "talk" pages. Thank you, Middle fork, I am doing well, :-) I had noticed what excellent contributions you are making—well done! I am somewhat confused by your comment about having received an email after posting a message as an IP. When you left the message on the talk page, did you give your real name or your email address? I can't think of any other way that an editor could have got your email address. As for your question, you have a couple of options, but you are right in thinking that they are not guaranteed ways of getting your message to the intended recipient. You can, of course, just respond to them at the article discussion where they left their message. Unfortunately, this relies on them actually returning to the page and seeing your response. You may also respond at the IP's talk page; you can direct your message at a specific poster by referring to the post that they made, using a WP:diff. Although some IPs are shared by hundreds of multiple users, some are not and are more "exclusive", if you like, so you may find that your messages on the IP's talk do not have as wide an audience as you might think, :-) Sorry to not have any better answers than that—I know it isn't an ideal situation! Maedin, thanks for the clear response. That interaction I described was years ago, so I cannot be sure, but I probably did leave my specific email address with my snarky comment. (Although I have been known to be rude, I have never deliberately been rude anonymously.) I know there are too many options . . . but this is what has been brought up, and how can I decide which ones to throw out? Granted, there are some "fringe" options which few sign up to, but it could be considered "pointed" to "deliberately" not include them. <Sigh./> I just don't know. Anyway, I finally saved that damn thing at 1:45 in the morning having worked on it for approximately six hours, and considering how much I love my weekend sleeping, that's saying a lot. If you or any else thinks there is just too much, then please, slim it down. I would hate to have not achieved something there just because there was too much choice! Thanks for the heads up. I spotted the file protection a few hours ago actually. I would have done a DYK myself if I didn't have exams nearby. If you are looking for other DYKs then I'm sure a few insects at User:Noodle_snacks/gallery#Insects that have potential. Myrmecia esuriens, Eusthenia, and Common Macrotona come to mind. Some of the others there are identified but don't have articles at all. I suspect you'd be pushing it to get above the DYK minimum length for some of those though. I'm not sure what else you are interested in, but on the basis of information available, Echeveria (and sub articles), Succulent plant, Mycena and Leptospermum (and sub articles) all have potential. Elsewhere Mount Field National Park could be expanded greatly, but you'd be pushing a 5x expansion. Noodle snacks (talk) 07:43, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

• I think I went there a few years ago to drop off my sister and one of our french students for a rafting trip. I've also rafted to huonville from nearby. It is quite close to the Tahune Airwalk, Tasmania. As the land is managed by forestry I am sure access is possible. I'm not sure where an appropriate nearby viewpoint would be though. I don't think it'd be visible at all from Hartz Mountain. I wouldn't consider it particularly notable. As far as being in the news for logging protests, Styx Valley, Upper Forentine Valley, Tarkine, Wielangta forest and Recherche Bay have been some of the most recent locations in the news. When I search Siurana in this wiki, appears like a town of the province of Tarragona. Problem with ACC

Hi Julie. When I wanted to create an account this morning I've got this error:

Visitors to Wikipedia using your IP address have created 6 accounts in the last 24 hours, which is the maximum allowed in this time period. As a result, visitors using this IP address cannot create any more accounts at the moment. If you would like to request an account be created for you, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Request an account.

Hi Lourie! There is a permission called "Account creator" which allows you to create unlimited accounts. Without this permission, the creation of accounts is limited to 6 in a 24 hour period. Generally on ACC, the account creator permission is not granted to a user until they have reached the limit, and an admin can then review the accounts you've created so far. I suggest that you contact one of the admins who are active on ACC; try Stwalkerster, Prodego, or OverlordQ, just as a start. If you want a quicker response, you can try the #en-wikipedia-accounts channel on IRC, where they are generally online. Hope that helps! Maedin\^talk 09:18, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
