Deleted article Cyclic Corrosion Testing

Hi Joseve05a,

I have come to amend my article to remove the the photographs which contained the copywright symbol. This is the first article i have written for Wikipedia and did not realise the full extent of what was required.

I am still working on the article, can it be re-instated please to enable me to amend the information & re-produce the pictures as required?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards JodieJlr83 (talk) 13:49, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

It was not for the pictures that I 'declined' your article, it was that you had copied the text. If you want the article undeleted, you can ask at the help desk. (tJosve05a (c) 14:05, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Joseve05a,

I have come to amend my article to remove/update the content which contained the copy right materials. This is the first article i have written for Wikipedia. I think it will be resent to my draft. but it was deleted.

Glenn Neely page deletion

I would like to know specifically what copyright violation that I made. I did not include anything with a copyright, all materials that were included were to back material that was in the page and were cited. GlePa (talk) 03:45, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Copyrighted Material Response

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This is my first attempt to contribute to Wikipedia and I was not aware of the specific strictures regarding source material, nor was I aware of the fact that these items were copyrighted. I will edit/amend, etc., as appropriate and would appreciate some guidance. (I also had only a foggy understanding of what the "sandbox" is for, and that anyone else had access to it.) Again, thanks for the heads up. Can you help? Cal Bare (talk) 05:37, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

@Cal Bare: Everything on on Wikipedia must be released under a compatible free license. Even if it is under a "personal" sandbox or in normal article-space. This is because of copyright laws. User sandboxed is a kind of a free zone for editors to edit without other editors editng it, but these pages do, however, need to comply with Wikipedia's legal and behavioral policies, as well as policies applicable to non-content pages. For example, editors may not violate copyrights anywhere on Wikipedia You might want to read some of these links:

Thank you for the timely response re my copyright question. I believed that, if I properly cited my sources, that that is not considered copyright violation. Was I wrong? Cal Bare (talk) 16:10, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Just citing a source is not copyright violation, but using the materials (copying the text) from that website(/book/other material) is.
All creative works are copyrighted, by international agreement, unless either they fall into the public domain or their copyright is explicitly disclaimed. Generally, Wikipedia must have permission to use copyrighted works. There are some circumstances under which copyrighted works may be legally utilized without permission; see Wikipedia:Non-free content for specific details on when and how to utilize such material. However, it is our goal to be able to freely redistribute as much of Wikipedia's material as possible, so original images and sound files licensed under CC-BY-SA and GFDL (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts) or in the public domain are greatly preferred to copyrighted media files used under fair use or otherwise.

If you want to import media (including text) that you have found elsewhere, and it does not meet the non-free content policy and guideline, you can only do so if it is public domain or available under terms that are compatible with the CC-BY-SA license. If you import media under a compatible license which requires attribution, you must, in a reasonable fashion, credit the author(s). You must also in most cases verify that the material is compatibly licensed or public domain. If the original source of publication contains a copyright disclaimer or other indication that the material is free for use, a link to it on the media description page or the article's talk page may satisfy this requirement. If you obtain special permission to use a copyrighted work from the copyright holder under compatible terms, you must make a note of that fact (along with the relevant names and dates) and verify this through one of several processes. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for the procedure for asking a copyright holder to grant a usable license for their work and for the processes for verifying that license has been granted.

Never use materials that infringe the copyrights of others. This could create legal liabilities and seriously hurt Wikipedia. If in doubt, write the content yourself, thereby creating a new copyrighted work which can be included in Wikipedia without trouble.

Note that copyright law governs the creative expression of ideas, not the ideas or information themselves. Therefore, it is legal to read an encyclopedia article or other work, reformulate the concepts in your own words, and submit it to Wikipedia, so long as you do not follow the source too closely. (See our Copyright FAQ for more on how much reformulation may be necessary as well as the distinction between summary and abridgment.) However, it would still be unethical (but not illegal) to do so without citing the original as a reference (see the plagiarism guideline).

(The above material, in green, is relesed under CC BY-SA 3.0 and is published here.)
I hope that you understand, that Wikipedia can't have any copied materials from other website on its site if it is copywrited (In most cases there is a (c) at the bottom of the page in question.) Note that most US gov. sites is released under public domain and you are free to use/copy as you wish (if you cite it ofc)

Why I marked an certain article for deletion

Hello, you just restored this paragraph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_M%C3%BCller#Anti-Feminist_view

I think it's an attempt at putting a feminist spin on something were it just doesn't belong. Everything about this paragraph strikes me as irrelevant in that context. Me deleting it was more of a way for me to draw your attention to it.

As you can tell, I'm not a member, and if this is not the way to go about it, I apologize.

It probably wasn't...

Anyways, your call. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.178.112.133 (talk) 19:21, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Virgina Lorenz deleted article

Hello! I'm trying to figure out why the article was deleted? You cited copyright - was it the image link on the page? I would like to correct any mistakes I made. Thanks in advance for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TJentzsch (talkcontribs) 22:52, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Since this happend in March, I can't really remember, but you can ask Alexf who deleted the page, as I only "tagged it" as copyrighted. (tJosve05a (c) 22:02, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

As you didn't answer the gentleman above, I must ask, where was the copyright infringement? I'm happy to delete the article if I've missed something (and I'm known for being fallible), but I can't see anything. PanydThe muffin is not subtle 21:54, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Panyd If you look here you can see that 14% is copied from this link. (But I migh be wrong too, since I am really tired right now... (tJosve05a (c) 21:59, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Aaaaah. Well, it's mostly a quote that's lifted, and 2 extra sentences, which I'm not good enough to rephrase. It definitely doesn't look like a copyright infringement from here. There are many, many other issues though... PanydThe muffin is not subtle 22:07, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Martin Ross

Hi Josve05a!

I created a page for 'Actor Martin Ross' on 16th March and it said the review takes around 2 weeks? After that it kept getting pushed out and is saying now it will be a further 3 weeks? Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining in any way, just wondering if it will be pushed out any further after the next 3 weeks? here is the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Martin_Ross Thank you kindly and have a great day! Martin Gibbs. 10th April. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martinrossgibbs (talkcontribs) 08:57, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Martinrossgibbs: Martin, please read the notices more carefully. The review has not been postponed; rather, the article has been declined twice because it doesn't meet notability and sourcing standards. Imdb is not considered to be a reliable source. The other websites you're using for sources are not independent of the subject. In total, the article you've made looks more like an advertisement of Martin Ross than an objective encyclopedic entry about him. Chris Troutman (talk) 09:38, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
Hi Chris.

Thank you for your reply. I don't understand? Yes it has been declined twice but was resubmitted after more additional support from newspapers and an edit by Josve05a and the latest states:

AFC-Logo.svg Review waiting.

This may take more than 3 weeks. The Articles for creation process is very highly backlogged. Please be patient. There are 1442 submissions waiting for review.

If the submission is accepted, then this page will be moved into the article space.
If the submission is declined, then the reason will be posted here. Please check back here later to see the outcome of your request.
In the meantime, you can continue to improve this article by pressing the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.

It is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Actor_Martin_Ross

Perhaps you could clarify for me?

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martinrossgibbs (talkcontribs) 11:03, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

The roster for the Pittsburgh Steelers shows 57 players with only three players (*) marked as inactives. Active NFL rosters are only permitted to have 53 active players; one of the remaining 54 players has not been correctly identified as inactive.

Here is a BR report that talks about the 53-man roster: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1640782-the-anatomy-of-a-53-man-roster-in-the-nfl

Hello, Josve05a. By editing the above article you have delayed its deletion by six months. I have been given advice that the best thing to do in this case if you think it should be deleted is to revert your edit and then manually place a db-g13 template on the page. If someone wants it back in the future they can always ask for a refund. I notified WikiProject Northern Ireland and had no response, so your assessment is likely correct. —Anne Delong (talk) 14:50, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

@Obaapanin: Did you press "Show preview" before submitting your article? If you did press "submit" before you saved the article you only saw a "preview" of the article, and if you submited the article, before you save it, it did not get saved, just become a blank page. If you want to edit again here the page is. (tJosve05a (c) 14:28, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Friendly Reminder

Just a quick reminder. Per WP:TALKO it's considered very bad form to edit other editors comments on talk page, specifically The basic rule—with some specific exceptions outlined below—is that you should not edit or delete the comments of other editors without their permission.. Edits like this are definitely not endorsed by any sense of the policy in addition to implying an entirely different meaning to the words. Please refrain from making changes like this in the future unless you have the explicit authorization of the user who wrote the text. Hasteur (talk) 16:48, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

@Hasteur: I am sorry. I did not realise that adding : before a users comment was to edit the comment. I wil not do that anymore, I just thought it looked nicer. Thanks for telling me. (tJosve05a (c) 18:28, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

OER inquiry

Hi Josve05a/Archives/2014, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. Thanks for your support! - Sara FB (talk) 20:43, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

May 2014 disambig contest: let's do it again!

Greetings fellow disambiguator! Remember back in February when we made history by clearing the board for the first time ever, for the monthly disambiguation contest? Let's do it again in May! I personally will be aiming to lead the board next month, but for anyone who thinks they can put in a better effort, I will give a $10 Amazon gift card to any editor who scores more disambiguation points in May. Also, I will be setting up a one-day contest later in the month, and will try to set up more prizes and other ways to make this a fun and productive month.
