DYK for West Horsley Place

On 6 November 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article West Horsley Place, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 2014, West Horsley Place (pictured) was "accidentally" inherited by Bamber Gascoigne? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/West Horsley Place. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, West Horsley Place), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

An improvement, but still questionable notability. Seems it's been declined by SwisterTwister a couple of days ago as well. Joseph2302 21:19, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Joseph2302/Archives/2016,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Joseph2302. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as mark pages as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:40, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

Page curation tool wanted

What is the Javascript needed to get access to the Curation Toolbar for new page patrolling? It's not specified at Wikipedia:Page Curation#Curation Toolbar. Joseph2302 08:07, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

You do not need any type of personal script. Once you go to Special:NewPagesFeed, review any page. On the right side, there should automatically be a toolbar. Dat GuyTalkContribs 15:06, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
DatGuy It's not there for me on either my laptop or mobile (using desktop site), and I have latest Java update on my laptop. Does it have to be enabled anywhere? If not, I'll ask at the Village Pump Technical. Joseph2302 08:03, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Concerned over new Wikipedia editors

Hello, you left a comment on my page a while ago [1], in regards to the strange edits on Mughal-Sikh battles by some users. I have noticed a recent upsurge in similar such edits, with users with new accounts most notably user:Why do people not understand [2], who creates new articles that are entirely unsourced, such as Gurkha-Sikh War, Punjab War (the creator of this article was a confirmed sockpuppet), Mughal-Sikh Wars (no source, but I added some and he keeps on reverting it, which was initially created by a user with similar edits named User:Gurbar Akaal), and Anti-Sikh jihad which was deleted [3] after I requested a speedy delete for blatant hoax. Any valuable input would be appreciated. Xtremedood (talk) 07:19, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Hm, that was a long time ago, but believe it was this sockmaster. He created a lot of new pages, usually the same ones, whereas Punjab War and Gurkha-Sikh War don't seem to have been created before, although they have also been changing the history of Mughal-Sikh Wars, which according to the SPI is an artice they changed a lot. From memory, the sockmaster's use of English was very poor, always addressed people as "sir", whereas [4] and [5] seem to be written in good English. So I don't think it's the same person. International_Baccalaurate_Schools_in_Henrico_County merger proposal

Over a year ago you proposed to merge the aforementioned page with Henrico County Public Schools. There were two votes supporting this merger within that time, and I closed the discussion and performed a merge. In all honesty when the merge took place all I did was denote the IB program schools in the list of schools in the HCPS page. This was because there was very little else on the source page that would justify a separate section in the article.

If you have any questions or issues with this action please let me know. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Edits) 22:15, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Seems fine to me. Joseph2302 08:15, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

adult models

  • Keep Category:Female adult models by nationality Adult here is models who modeled or posed nude for their modeling assignments or did explicit scenes in main stream cinema same as in categories such as italian adult models, american adult models etc. Adult here means explicit and for adults only, why making a big deal just because it is India. Adult here means not children and adults.Nartanasala (talk) 09:37, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
  • Some context is needed. Which article are you talking about? Joseph2302 (talk) 17:14, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Joseph2302/Archives/2016,

Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 816 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.

Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

so how to add a company info into wikipedia not be taken as speedily deleted item?

How to add a not very popular company info into wikipedia with out been deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonytang.sh (talkcontribs) 11:19, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Tonytang.sh Wikipedia doesn't care whether a company is popular or not. What we care about is whether they have been covered in multiple, independent reliable sources, as required by Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Not every company is notable enough for Wikipedia.
