Disambiguation link notification for July 1

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Lincoln Holroyd, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Utica (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Lake Holiday, Virginia

I've been thru such grief with nonlake articles. Some people feel they have the right to "own" an article and what goes into it. In the past I have advocated making articles that become such battlegrounds semiprotected in some way. This can be done, but I have not found any support for doing this. If an article's status results in an edit war, then an admin will step in. However, being involved in an edit war is not tolerated. Maybe go to an admin with this situation. Maybe someone else in this project will respond to this, as well. Let me know what happens. Bill Pollard (talk) 08:13, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Removed edits on Robbinsville High School

Hi, you recently removed my edits on Robbinsville High School (New Jersey) because I didn't cite sources--I'm new to editing and didn't know how. I went back and edited some of it again with citations this time. However, some of the changes I originally made, which you removed, were grammatical/spelling errors. Is it necessary to cite spelling? (Also, I'm sorry if I'm posting this incorrectly; I've never wrote on a talk page before). MMTB13 (talk) 01:22, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Your exactly correct on the talk page posting. And I am sorry, I was using an automated editing aid called Twinkle and didn't really notice the well done changes to the awful grammar. That does not have to be referenced.
The problem is the traditions section. It isn't referenced at all, and, more importantly, is for the most part trivial. High school articles are NOT supposed to contain a bunch of information on things like proms, fundraisers, class officers, senior skip days etc, that pretty much every school has, unless there is something unusual enough that newspapers and or tv covered it. (preferably not just local ones). You can find a complete guideline for what should and shouldn't be in a high school article at WP:WPSCHOOLS/AG. Thanks for becoming a Wikipedia editor. As you have probably noticed by now, I have left you some info on your talk page to help you get started with learning the ins and outs here at Wikipedia. And you are always welcome to come here if you need help. I will do my best to help you in any way I can. Gtwfan52 (talk) 02:35, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Patrick Manifold Wiki Page

Hello User:gtwfan52 It appears you have deleted the edits I did to a page about a basketball player Patrick Manifold saying it was not using sources and citation? I do not understand as I know the man personally? All the information is 100% true, I even emailed him asking to clarify certain information. I wanted to add a picture but I am not very good with computers and I did my best. I spent hours making those edits and now they are gone? I would love to make this page properly so it was a really good page but I do not know how to do this and I do not often have time to learn. Please help me, you are a great user and very good at Wikipedia, please help me gtwfan52, I will be so upset if the page gets deleted, I have spent so long on it. Thank you and I hope to hear from you very soon! Wgw2024 (talk) 02:41, 28 June 2013 (UTC)User talk:Basketball Fan 23July 5, 2013

Hey there. I hate to be too rude or specific, but User 2601:4:3380:BC:94B8:AF86:A4E3:9FFC is on a tear to use the word penis and their desire to have one stuck inside of them. Thats swell, BUT not in the context of the articles such as town locations in WV and comments in edit remarks...is there any specific action that can be done here?Coal town guy (talk) 21:11, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

I re-factored your post a bit to create a link to his contributions. I'll look, warn, and report as needed. Since it is an IP, they will only give a temporary block, but it will shut him (her?) down for a while. Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:21, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
The odd fella hasn't done anything since 28 June and all of his rudeness has been reverted. He was blocked for 31 hours on the 28t, so that is over. I am guessing he found a r/l way to satisfy his needs. He made a direct personal attack on me, too. lol....other than the damage it causes the 'pedia, he can't fire any bullets I ain't dodged before. Happy editing CTG! Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:26, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Turkey Creek, Kentucky

Hey there, another oldy, BUT a goody. Could someone, please STOP the detail editing in Turkey Creek, Kentucky?? There is an editor who will NOT listen that the Firechief, of said town is NOT notable and hence should not be in the article. ANY help you could provide would be GREATLY appreciatedCoal town guy (talk) 02:58, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

They are back again, I believe we have a Fairview Alpha situation here, BUT now its Turkey CreekCoal town guy (talk) 16:18, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
I am afraid this is going to have to be dealt with just as a maintenance procedure. To get an IP blocked, they have to have been given 4 progressive warnings in 24 hours. And then they will only block for a short period, usually less than two weeks. And all the IP need do is unplug their modem and plug it back in and SHAZZAM!! they are a different IP. I wish they would require registration. Gtwfan52 (talk) 19:55, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Lakeview

Thanks for fixing that mangled citation for me yesterday and for the link to the prison article. I clicked through to it and read the supporting article about call centers in prisons. Interesting and a bit unsettling. I didn't see a link to an Oregonian article but found one in the Oregonian archives that was published in 1996 and lists several sites being considered for new prisons. The story says they were necessitated by a mandatory-minimum sentencing law (Measure 11) approved by the state's voters. The cities you mentioned were on that list, but the story does not mention Lakeview. Prison sitings are likely to be controversial, so I will keep looking for a reliable source that might have published details about Lakeview's prison. I don't know if I will find one or not. Vale, perhaps

Hi Gtwfan52. I would be glad to assist you with advice and a few direct contributions. Here are some suggestions:

(1) I got this NRHP tip from User:Dudemanfellabra: The link to the nomination document of any site on the NRHP in Oregon will have the formathttp://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/XXXXXXXX.pdf – just replace "XXXXXXXX" with the 8-digit NRIS reference number." The nomination document generally has a great deal of reliable information. You can find the reference number in the Oregon National Register list.
(2) It would be very difficult to expand Vale High School to meet the GA requirement that the article be broad in coverage. I think you would have a much better chance with Vale, Oregon.
(3) You will find a big list of Oregon research tips and sources at WP:OREREF. Some of them should lead to information about Vale.
(4) You can use GA articles about other Oregon towns as models. Burns, Oregon, and Cave Junction, Oregon, are both GA, and there may be others. Hillsboro, Oregon, is FA, but Hillsboro is a much bigger city with more complications and sources than Vale is likely to have.
(5) WP:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline has advice about how to develop articles on U.S. cities.
Hope this helps. Holler if you have questions. Finetooth (talk) 23:23, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
It very much does. I mostly work on high school articles and that's why I mentioned that, but I know how few GA and FA articles on high schools there are. With the murals, the Oregon Trail connection and the history associated with being the county seat, I thought Vale would be good, too. I had considered Ontario, but I frankly think there is probably more out there on Vale. I will start a sandbox for it in the next couple days. A question for you--is there any policy issue you know of with copypasting the whole article into a sandbox and then improving it one section at a time and pasting it back? Also, I will leave you a TB for this, but do you need it or am I on your list now? Gtwfan52 (talk) 23:43, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
You are on my list. It doesn't matter to me whether you post on my talk page or here; I will see it. The only problem that I can think of with copying the whole article and working on it is that other editors may change the "real" version while you are working on the clone. You then have to be careful not to obliterate their changes by overwriting the real version with your sandbox version. Finetooth (talk) 23:57, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
It is a pretty stable article (only 7 edits this year) but I will stay aware of that. Thanks. Gtwfan52 (talk) 00:05, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
I have now posted some possible source links on the Vale, Oregon, talk page. Looks like lots of material is available. Finetooth (talk) 16:08, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I will be able to get started about mid month. I appreciate all your help. Gtwfan52 (talk) 22:39, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Do you happen to have a link for that?

I would really appreciate it if you could direct me to the capitalization standards for categories.

Also, I would say that removing items that have a CN tag from this month is probably a bit overzealous. Granted they've been on there a while, but I am doing a lot of work to track down citations for this stuff. Did you happen to find some evidence to the contrary of the claim when you checked to see if you could find a citation? If so it would make me feel better and I can stop researching.RageBanken (talk) 09:41, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello,

As I figured out your "position" is quiet important to Wikipedia and give you much appreciation for that, but I wanted to ask why would you think that I would put any lies on Wiki?.. Yes my edit was unreferenced, but it is impossible to find anything on the internet about Ziliton gaming system, a NES clone! I think this info was essential, because I see Wikipedia as a huge book of history and every event has it's own starting point. You can not put a business reference on your CV if you are applying for your first job, right? Why would I donate to Wikipedia if I was a liar (this is not a situation when someone's trying to misguide people)?.. My post doesn't tweak any genuine information, mislead people or whatsoever.. Sorry if this is not the way to contact a person on Wiki regarding similar issues..

Please remove your repeated warnings to User talk:Minotaur Knossos. They are bitey. Minotaur certainly did try to censor WP, but the edits were done over a short period of time. Thank you re: DFR Asia article discussion

Hi Gtwfan52. I haven't logged into Wikipedia for a while and just saw your message on my Talk page. Thank you very much for your kind comments and advice.

I spent quite some time on the article and cited all the sources that I found useful during my research. I see why other users may suspect that it was promotional material, and I do apologize for my attitude. I couldn't help but feel very upset when people made comments about the article when they obviously hadn't even read it carefully. Like people said I cited sources on business models that other companies use, or the links were spam because they had nothing to do with DFR Asia. I agree with you that DFR Asia hasn't had much media coverage solely on itself, but the original purpose of the article was to speak factually about the company, especially on its business model, which is also deployed by many new and upcoming companies. The links were (1) on the new business model (2) on the other companies which use the same model. In terms of nature and structure, it is very much the same as the article on Betaworks, except that, as you mentioned, DFR Asia hasn't had coverage by secondary sources. I will wait for the company to gain more media attention before creating this article again.

I am indeed a newcomer to Wikipedia, and it's actually quite difficult to keep track of all the talks and discussions going around and get a sense of how certain decisions are made. This page just came to my attention: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/DFR_Asia It's putting DFR Asia in a very negative light because of my mistake, and I feel responsible to fix this situation for them. Is there any way to put a closure to this? If possible, I would really appreciate your help and advice.

Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DariaDequan (talkcontribs) 02:33, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Daria, I am sorry to say the article is gone. The AfD that you mentioned above was closed as a speedy delete. That means that it could have been removed without a discussion. The reason cited was "unambiguous advertising". Very simply, unless your organization is being talked about either in the media or in academic journals, in detail, you will not get an article on Wikipedia. Notability means that the world at large has taken note of your company. It does not equate in any way with importance. This is the standard all encyclopedias, print and electronic have as they are by definition tertiary sources. Encyclopedias write about what secondary sources are covering and what we write is based wholly on what those secondary sources are saying. I would suggest starting over from scratch, after you have some solid secondary sources. At this time, it is a case of WP:TOOSOON for DFR Asia. And we have another informational essay here that covers the topic of the article on Betaworks. You will find it at WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. I agree, it too is borderline promotional but, as you have noted, the difference between the article on Betaworks and the one you wrote is secondary sourcing. That is a very key difference here. When you get better sources, feel free to drop me a note here and I will be glad to help you. You may wish also to consider using articles for creation, as your work will be reviewed there before the article goes into the encyclopedia. Gtwfan52 (talk) 03:00, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Gtwfan52, Thank you so much for the super fast response! The articles on DFR Asia and Dfr asia and the Talk pages were removed, but I found this section on DFR Asia still. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/DFR_Asia I was wondering whether there is any way that I can put a closure to this. What I thought was gonna be factual actually casts them in a very negative light. I would really appreciate your help with this. Thanks a lot! Daria D — Preceding unsigned comment added by DariaDequan (talkcontribs) 03:51, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

AfD discussions cannot be removed, but I do not believe they index on search engines. In other words, the only way someone is going to find it using DFR Asia as a search term is if they were searching on Wikipedia itself. It won't show up on google, etc. Gtwfan52 (talk) 03:57, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

I just did a Google search, you are right that this discussion doesn't show up directly as a search result, but the content is pulled by strange sites such as Alternative Fuse, Pack 6, wikia.com. Do you by any chance know what these sites are and how to stop them from pulling this content?

Also, will the discussion session be preserved indefinitely? As I do plan to make a new article for DFR Asia once the company is more ready with decent media coverage, and then there will be a higher chance that people may search for DFR Asia under Wikipedia.... Please let me know what you think is the best way to do the "damage control." Thanks a lot!

Kokomo, Indiana

You reverted everything? Seriously?! I spent hours on that! Parts like where i listed stored in the Markland Mall doesn't need references! The current listings dont have references either! And the reference that was already there works for what i added to the transportation section! There is 5 buses, not 2 and that needs to be on there! You need to maybe review your own work! I've been on Wikipedia since 2006 and I've never came across something as irritating! sweepout(talk) 09:15, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Have you ever heard of WP:NOTDIR? When a city has a mall, you generally only list the anchor stores. In city articles, you generally only list the businesses that are notable (note that does not mean the chains that are notable, only individually notable businesses). And if you have been here since 2006, you should know that your work is still here. It will take 10 seconds to copy and paste the stuff on the busses back. That was my mistake. I figured wrongly that since their was no change to the reference that it was an unreferenced change. I am sorry you are irritated, but 85% of my revision was correct, and I apologize for the stuff on the busses. Gtwfan52 (talk) 09:25, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Maybe you've never seen this Markland Mall before, but Best Buy is an anchor store in it as well. Also the Kokomo Town Center (formally known as the Kokomo Mall) has the movie theater, JC Pennies, Robert Miller and Sons Furniture, and Buffalo Wild Wings as its anchor stores. Oh any by the way you spelled "busses" wrong.sweepout (talk) 11:51, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

July 28th

Okay look here! I've already told you once now that the sources on the bus section that's already there supports the fact that there isn't two buses in Kokomo! All i did was change the bus information to be more accurate and added 3 new sources two prove everything i said!! Then i also mentioned the plans for what US in town will be called, again with sources!! Lastly, i added the name of an additional anchor store in the Markland Mall. If you don't know how to look at pages and revert possible needed changed (which you obviously don't) then I'm reporting you to Wikipedia! I've edited the Kokomo, Indiana page more times than i care to count and you keep on taking them off. Yes some things maybe you had the right to take off, but you completely revert the whole page and expect me to waste my time trying to type all that out again! Consider yourself reported!!!!! sweepout (talk) 01:31, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

There is nothing in it about The Owyhee Compact, a rather groundbreaking compromise that was orchestrated by Idaho Senator Jim Risch between various stakeholders in the area, allowing some property to be set aside as wilderness area while preserving BLM grazing rights on others. Thought that might be important, but really do not have the time to write it myself. Thanks for your interest. Gtwfan52 (talk) 02:48, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
