Museum Guides
Were you aware that it is possible to create maps with links to images and articles eg:

- Thanks, I think it may be hard as the museums are over multiple levels and may get squished on mobile devices (I have an android phone this happens on sometimes) but if you would like to do something I'd be happy to help any way I can, I think these guides will need multiple techniques for different galleries. I tried to use Google Maps to make a multi level map, it works quite well but the GPS signal in the museums is awful. I want to make the guides as understandable as possible by non English language speaks as well. I have been thinking it would be really nice to do image maps for some exhibits if they're quite complex. It's hard to tell from the image but the Giant sequoia has dates for various events, I may do an image map for this or possibly a table.
- If you've got an idea for something and need some photos I'm at the museums nearly every week dat so just let me know, I'm going to try to get museum visitors involved in taking images asap, not quite sure how to make a useable list they can use to know what needs photographing though. - If we can't get the museum to release a map of their interiors under a free license the people to talk to are open street maps. In terms of photos of stuff on display most of it has already been nabbed. Things like Old Bess (beam engine) are tricky to photograph well.Geni (talk) 21:41, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

3D models
Hi John, I could swear that somewhere you said you'd written a guide to uploading 3D models to Commons. I can't find that on Commons itself. Can you point me to it? I hope I haven't just made this up. TIA, MartinPoulter (talk) 21:25, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

50 images from the Science Museum collection
The Science Museum in London have agreed to release 50 of it's images (at a medium resolution) under a Wikimedia compatible license. Do you have anything in particular you need that they have? Feel free to give me a list if you like. The 2 websites that the images would be available from are:

The 1322 NASA photos are *all* ok regarding copyright, but this may not be the best place to get them. Still, the museum has selected a very beautiful group
The light micrographs are all wonderful, but it looks like they are all properly copyrighted by individuals
Car bodies all look like they fit in with the restrictions we have to deal with, and might be very useful for selected articles, e.g.
Royal Society transactions might be very useful for some articles

Image suggestions
- Do you know what magnifications are possible? I think most of the smaller arthropod families lack or have bad images. In many cases that means low magnification images that give a full subject coverage but in many groups that could be complemented by specific group identification features.

Electron micrographs of structural coloration structures
Hi, we met at the Wikimedia photographing in museums workshop. It would be really nice to get some electron micrographs of some structural coloration in insects. In particular:
- the 'firtree' microstructures forming the iridescent blue wing scales of Morpho butterflies
- the 'green' wing patches/scales of Emerald Swallowtail, Papilio palinurus
- the 'green' wing scales of Parides sesostris, the Emerald-patched Cattleheart
- the iridescent cuticle of Lamprocyphus augustus, a weevil from Brazil

Hi John. I'm afraid I can't reproduce your problem using Google Calendar > Other Calendars > Add from URL > http://tools.wmflabs.org/wmukevents/ . The tool definitely *used* to suffer from the robots.txt problem though, so I don't doubt that it has returned :) I just wonder what you and I are doing differently? Great Barrier Reef-related edits
Hello John, I have been looking at a group of edits you have made relating to a recent news story regarding the reef. They look to me to not meet WP styles and policies for several reasons. They don't look to be neutral, for example through the inclusion of Waters very strident sound bite, and the selection of the way facts are presented; it possibly breaches WP:NOTNEWS, and also isn't consistent with the Manual of Style. I'm reverting a couple of instances, following WP:BRD, and suggest a discussion at the article talk pages. In the case of the addition to Larissa Waters in particular, I really don't think it is worth debating, because it isn't about her, and that article is a biographical one. - The interviews on Youtube aren't the full length videos, they're short excerpts. The youtube channel is the official youtube channel of The Green Interview, also I've been in email contact with Silver to work with him to release more content, please see in the video's comments on Youtube.

Electron microscope images
Hi, on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Insects#Electron microscope images back in December, you offered to see if you could make images. Dunno if your offer still stands. Neither do I think it has priority, but I would be interested in Crowsoniella relicta, and in particular the ventral and dorsal habitus, maximilar palp and aedeagus. Translation Protocol
I have a question about translation protocol. So I was looking at Dorte Gatermann's page and the German language version came up in a subsequent search. It has better/more information on it. I was thinking about just translating the German content and weaving it into the English language version.
Can I translate the Wikipedia page in a different language and add that content to Wikipedia En version? Is that considered copying work and is verboten? Is there attribution tags required?

- So it's absolutely fine to translate from another language Wikipedia to English, here's the page to look at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. The bit you need is this:
- Translations of copyrighted text, even from other Wikimedia projects, are derivative works, and attribution must be given to satisfy licensing requirements. When translating material from a Wikimedia project licensed under CC-By-SA, a note identifying the Wikimedia source (such as an interlanguage link) should be made in an edit summary and a link left to the original at the article's talk page. The template {{Translated page}} is available for this purpose.
- So all you need to do is translate from the German (keeping all the references) and then add this to the talk page for the article on the English version {{translated page|de|Dörte Gatermann|version=123123294|insertversion=590234220}}
