Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. It is a good idea to read the most recent entries at the bottom of the Talk page of an existing article before making major changes to it, to see if your proposed change has been discussed before. Before I make a major change to an article, I often make a proposal on the Talk page to see if anyone minds.

Again, welcome! -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:21, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 15:20, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mary Potter (painter) edit

Kitten wants you to continue editing Wikipedia.

Hello! I just wanted to tell you that you made a very good start at the Mary Potter article, putting in the essential material that showed that Potter is an important artist. I was very pleased to help out with formatting and filling it out a bit. Do not listen to the nattering nabobs of negativity who criticized your first drafts – you did a very good job, especially for a newcomer. If you have any questions about editing in the future, or if you do not know how to respond to someone, feel free to put a message on my Talk page! Happy editing! Ssilvers (talk) 17:20, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much, your encouragement and work on the page is much appreciated! I did think earlier that it would be my first and last attempt to make a new page.I care because she has become neglected and I admire her work very much. Jasmine 51 (talk) 17:23, 19 April 2014 (UTC) 18.22 19 AprilReply
Please don't be discouraged. It is a good idea, however, to edit some more existing articles first, to get the hang of editing here, before diving into creating new articles. You are obviously a good writer and researcher, and I am certain that you can make super contributions to this encyclopedia if you give us a second chance! All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:29, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
May I add my voice to that of Ssilvers, who is one of our finest editors, in hoping you will stay and keep editing Wikipedia? I too am at your service if you want advice or comment. I have worked on the articles on Stephen Potter and Benjamin Britten, and so knew a bit (a very little bit) about Mary, and am pleased to learn more today from your article. Tim riley (talk) 18:26, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Just to say the same as the above. I think nominating this article for deletion is ludicrous and the nominator's comments an egregious case of biting a newcomer who is interested in contributing in a non-trivial field, and lazy 'drive-by tagging'. I hope this experience does not put you off editing.TheLongTone (talk) 18:34, 19 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for your support and offers of help. I will continue to edit and I'm glad Tim Riley that you knew something about her, as well as for your initial comments. Jasmine 51 (talk) 18:50, 19 April 2014 (UTC)19.50Reply

WP:Reliable Sources edit

Hi, Jasmine. In Wikipedia, we cannot cite to private conversations. We must cite to published sources, such as books and newspaper reports. A pamphlet published by a gallery is OK, if the pamphlet was widely circulated. Click on WP:Reliable sources for more information. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:01, 23 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

OK sorry thanks for fixing that. They are cited in the NBD text so will change to that ref. Jasmine 51 (talk) 07:42, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Jasmine. The DNB supports part of the statement, but I would also leave in the references to the museum's own publications, because the DNB does not support the full statement, especially about the posthumous exhibitions. -- Ssilvers (talk) 13:58, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thank you I see you've amended that, good.Jasmine 51 (talk) 14:20, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
