  • Our parent wikiproject, the WikiProject Fishes, is having an important discussion about the policy of "Titles of fish species articles". This policy covers the selection of scientific and common names as article titles. It will have a significant impact on a large number of fish articles. See or join the discussion here. Related to this discussion is the title change of the article Mayan cichlid to Cichlasoma urophthalmus.
  • Aquarium, a featured article since 2005, has been proposed for a review which may lead to the article being de-featured. See the proposal and discuss here. Discuss how to improve the article here.

WikiProject Louisville brainstorming about enhancing communication and coordinationEdit

See this project talk topic. Your views are very much welcome! Stevie is the man! TalkWork 16:56, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Baird's HistoryEdit

If you really want to do more mayors of Jeff, get a copy of Baird's History of Clark County, Indiana. There are three copies available for checkout at the Jeff library, one of which I have.--Bedford (talk) 01:26, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

TableMannersEdit

There's an user named TableManners that is deleteing the Museums in Louisville category from any that are in Indiana. I am going to need assistance with this newbie that has already made self-righteous comments on my talk page about it.--Bedford (talk) 06:50, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Rfc on Museums_in_Louisville problemEdit

I made an Rfc stating the problem and proposing one solution. Please take a look and submit comments or propose other solutions. Should Museums in Indiana be listed in Museums in Kentucky?. Thanks. TableManners U·T·C 07:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Template:Museums_in_Kentucky classifications too courseEdit

Please take a look at Template_talk:Museums_in_Kentucky#Organization. I am seeking input on the organization of this template. The classifications are a bit too course in my view. TableManners U·T·C 17:38, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

A.J. Foyt IVEdit

I feel that I have addressed your concerns about A. J. Foyt IV regarding good article criteria. -Drdisque (talk) 05:15, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Notability of John MintaEdit

A tag has been placed on John Minta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Truthanado (talk) 22:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

List of Jeff mayorsEdit

I have a picture of a list of every mayor of Jeffersonville, including their time as mayor and their profession. I found it in Encyclopedia of Louisville. Let me know if you are interested in seeing this.--Bedford 00:58, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I am very interested in seeing this. My email is kingjahnx@gmail.com if you don't mind sending it to me. -Jahnx (talk) 01:30, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

It has been sent. I included all three pages of the Jeffersonville entry; I apologize for the size. The book has some of its pages available in Google Books for free, but not nearly enough. It's available at the main Jeff Township library.--Bedford 01:42, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Louisville "This Day"Edit

I've started creating a "This Day in Louisville History" at Portal:Louisville/thisday. I don't want to put it up until its fairly full, as I don't want to endanger the portal's probably featured status. But I thought you might like to know its existance, in case there is anything you might want to add.--Bedford 13:31, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Richard VissingEdit

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Richard Vissing, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 09:15, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Portal:KentuckyEdit

Check Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates to endorse Portal:Kentucky as a featured portal.--Bedford 00:48, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the Photo Barnstar. I've been wanting that for some time.--Bedford 17:27, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

List of assault rifles AfDEdit

I have hastily knocked together a sample treatment of an alternative format for the aforementioned page and posted it to the article's talk page. As you have weighed in on the previous version, I would invite your comments on the alternate I am proposing. Do you think this would make the page more worth keeping? Is it worth the effort to redo the whole page? Is the whole concept a lost cause? Inquiring minds want to know. • I stand by my Delete vote even after the revision. Most of these gun lists I would consider to delete because of duplications of categories. Now all you have is some red links. If you list was something specific about the gun, then it would be different. Like List of Assualt Riffles made by (insert gun company) -Jahnx (talk) 00:13, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

David Floyd VerifiabilityEdit

Jahnx, you rated an article I wrote on Davis Floyd. You commented on the references. In the external links there is a link to a Carnagie Center exhibit in New Albany on the offical Carnagie Center website, that page recounts alot of the info in the article. The specifics of his involvement in the Aaron Burr plot I could not find online, i referenced a book in my library. Here is a link to a google book Google Book on Burr Trial, Page 62 sites that Floyd was also charged with treason but without an explanation. Also, the book i referenced is on google books here Google Book on Burr, check pages 88, 179, 255-6, & 333.Cool10191 (talk) 12:19, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

--Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

You're kidding, right?Edit

You should know better than to think that "it's too short" (Buehler Foods) is a legitimate reason to delete. Don't go around trying to destructively nuke someone else's hard work just because you're not interested in doing something constructive like expanding it. If you don't know anything about it yourself, or you're just not interested in the subject, that's fine--so just leave it alone. Let people who care work on it when they're interested. This is patently ludicrous. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 05:31, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Remember to be Diplomatic and Kind on the wikipedia. The Article doesn't satisfy the WP:NOTE guide lines. It flirts with some speedy deletion categories such as A7. I am giving it a chance by placing the prod on it, it's called alerting the article creator that this article could be delete unless he/she does something about it. You have stopped the prod, now do something about it. If this article remains in this form for any significant amount of time I believe it would result in a deletion. -Jahnx (talk) 07:52, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Not legitimately it wouldn't. A short article is no reason to delete. That some people fail to understand how wikis are supposed to work is their problem, not that of article creators. The idea of "notability" is, quite simply, wrong; verifiable existence is the only legitimate criterion needed for inclusion of an article on a given subject. We now have a whole new generation of editors who can cite "policy" backwards and forwards, but who don't actually "get" Wikipedia. "Policy" is only a means to an end--and a pretty poor means at that; it's certainly not an end in itself, and it's absolutely NOT normative anyway, but merely descriptive of what has been done in the past. Ultimately, we are obligated to do what's best for the encyclopedia, "rules" be damned. So tell me, how would deleting this article be in the best interests of the encyclopedia?

That anyone would ever want to delete a perfectly legitimate article on a perfectly legitimate subject is both saddening and frightening. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 15:50, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

You're obviously consumed with this thought that you can do what ever youd want on wikipedia regardless of facts and if it's worth including into an encyclopedia. -Jahnx (talk) 17:16, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Any verifiable, factual information is worth including--that's correct. The whole point of an encyclopedia, after all, is to present the sum of all human knowledge. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 16:45, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for File:AndrewHorne.JPG}Edit

Thank you for uploading File:AndrewHorne.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. File source problem with File:Crescent Hill Branch Library.jpgEdit

Thank you for uploading File:Crescent Hill Branch Library.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:54, 29 August 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:54, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Tumbleweedlogo.jpgEdit

Thanks for uploading File:Tumbleweedlogo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Armbrust The Homunculus 07:11, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!Edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:TomGalligan Jeffersonville.jpgEdit

Thanks for uploading File:TomGalligan Jeffersonville.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 03:04, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

File source problem with File:RichardVissing.jpgEdit

Thank you for uploading File:RichardVissing.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 03:05, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
