Friendly advice edit

It is very important to assume good faith particularly when you are dealing with experienced editors. Most experienced editors, including me, are very happy to help you along the journey just as Cullen and others did for me when I started out. If you find yourself in disagreement with them it may be because they know something that you don't. You have the potential to be an excellent editor and contributor but it will take time. You have pointed to article ownership and more recently POV pushing. I encourage you to read Wikipedia:Ownership of articles#Ownership and stewardship and note the paragraph on featured articles. A wise editor once told me to read this link as a means of becoming a great contributor. Best wishes Flat Out talk to me 01:41, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Since I was pinged, I will comment here. Getting the 2015 drummer situation right for a 42 year old rock band which has had quite a few personnel changes over the years is not a high priority for Wikipedia. We are an online encyclopedia, not "Hot Breaking Rock and Roll News.com". Take it easy and take it slow. Do not place too much emphasis on one tour, or one blog post, or one court case. We are talking about the drummer, after all, not the lead singer or the little guitarist who wears shorts and a schoolboy cap. Keep things in perspective. I'm trying to learn and maybe I should pass this information along so it makes sense to you why this is important to me. I am a genealogist and do quite a bit of research. Dates and matters of fact are important to me. I also consider myself to be a pretty fair person and try to take my personal feelings on the issue out of the equation. I am interested in AC/DC and I use Wikipedia quite frequently. When I saw Chris Slade listed as a past member when he was clearly drumming for the band, I felt it was erroneous and felt the need to fix the article. I cannot because it is semi-protected, so I went to the talk page where I see plenty of editors with their arguments to keep the article as it was. It seemed like every time I addressed contrary editor's concerns, I was getting more problems thrown at me out of thin air. First it was that the website didn't have Chris listed. It then turned into an argument about who owned the band! You accused me of rehashing and I read that article. It said to come back with a better argument, and I felt like I did. I even quoted the dictionary! Nobody addressed my new arguments, but called it rehashing, only because I was still advocating the same position, not the same facts.
Now the website has changed and they have removed Phil from current members without any proof that he has been fired. You and I disagree on the date of when the status changed. I have put forward my argument and you cited WP:BLP. I read through it and honestly, other than warnings about being careful on editing, I saw nothing that supported your argument to keep the date 2015. I asked the question to you about when you felt Phil quit performing the duties of the band's drummer. I believe he quit doing drummer duties for the band either when he didn't show up for the video shoots or when his legal issues became public because he wasn't in any promotional material from that point on, and in an interview in December, the band said they were going on without Phil. They had not announced that Chris was going to drum for them, but they indicated that Phil would not go on tour with them.
I will read the articles that you have requested, although I've read the ownership one before. You asked me to look at all the articles that you've written. Please, feel free to look at a few of the projects that I've done. http://www.durnanfamily.com/ and http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&MRid=47353025&MSid=47353025& Those are just a couple of many genealogy projects that I have undertaken. I am fairly thorough in my work and yes, dates and things that some people feel are "little" and "insignificant" sometimes mean a great deal to me. It is clear you are editing in good faith. When it comes to living persons we only write that which is supported by a reliable and verifiable source. I'm not asking you to read the articles I have created (I've done only a few) I am saying have a look at the 23,000 edits on thousands of articles and you will see i do more than edit AC/DC - I'm not a single purpose account but I do have an interest in maintaining that article's feature status and ensuring it complies with our policy on biographies of living persons. Also there is an issue with the template where you request an edit and I haven't been able to close it. Flat Out talk to me 05:32, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
You're doing fine, JBN, off to a good start. The situation on AC/DC was a genuine disagreement between experienced editors. It happens. Just learn Wikipedia:Citing sources, Help:Footnotes, and Wikipedia:Citation templates. If you want some "Street Smart" insights to Wikipedia editing also, check out Lamest edit wars. You'll see that it makes the AC/DC drummer situation seem like a picnic in the park.--Bark (talk) 13:07, 30 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
