Request for some action

Hello Ioeth. One friend pointed me to your person, that you would probably help me. The case is following. I added to this completely unreferenced article: All-Polish Youth some sources and User:Krzyzowiec continues to whitewash it. I asked him on the talk page - [1] - to stop removing valid references. He replied - [2] - with harsh uncivil comments, calling me "socialist" and accusing me of "communistic propaganda", for instance. Moreover, he again blanked whole my constructive contributions, see [3], calling me "left-liberal kid" etc., in edit summaries. He also blanked references in similar article - [4] - with mocking edit summary "NAnanNANa". If some anonymous IP would do this, it would be no problem to block it but this is other case, because it is registered user. Personally I think his uncivil behavior and removal of content is pure vandalism. Please, take some action. Thank you. - Darwinek (talk) 22:12, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Pseudoscience discretionary sanctions

Hi! As somebody who commented on a January proposal to place all articles related to homeopathy on article probation, I would greatly appreciate your input on a new proposal to help combat disruption that would scrap the probation and implement discretionary sanctions. I apologize for any intrusion, but this is to my knowledge the first time sanctions of this nature have been attempted to be enforced by the community, so I feel that a wide range of opinions is necessary. Need info on the Digwuren restriction

Hi, I have 2 questions in relation to my listing in Digwuren.

• 1. Did you stumble on the edit that led to my listing by chance, or were you pointed there by someone?

If the latter, who was this someone?

• 2. Could you please state specifically the violation I committed to be listed there?

The reason I ask is that I have been attacked using the edit restriction as a weapon citing the restriction: "The user Stor Stark7 has been placed under general ArbCom restriction since January that year for his uncivil and disruptive behavior in January". friendlytag.js

I looked over the freindlytag.js and the code looks very straight forward when it comes to adding tags. I was hoping to add some more cleanup tags submit the code back to you for consideration. The problem is that I am not a JavaScript programmer (though I have some programing background in other languages.) I copied your code into my domain at User:Ctempleton3/friendlytag.js and then changed my monobook to read the following:

Unblocking of User:AndyCook?

I am curious if you would be ok with an unblocking for User:AndyCook? He was blocked indefinitely after his four edits (all clear vandalism) but it has been a few months and his main request is to be able to edit under his real name. About TW and Rollback

I noticed on the talk page of WP:TW that User:AzaToth is doing something with rollback and TW, but its status isn't clear, and it was working before I got the rollbacker bit (I have not tested it with the bit just yet). I also noticed a mention of an integration script written by you. I found its link from your user page, but I noticed that it has no documentation. Would you mind providing a brief description of what exactly it does (which links it alters, if/how it detects the rollback bit etc) and its status? It would be greatly appreciated. getChecked moved to morebits.

Hi Ioeth, AzaToth moved getChecked into morebits.js. This should fix several issues that are currently occurring in both Twinkle and Friendly. Friendly

Hello. I'm a sysop on the Romanian Wikipedia and I translated Friendly into Romanian (ro:Utilizator:Firilacroco/friendlytag.js) (of course I used the Romanian tags into the script). Everythins is almost allright except one thing:

Made a slight modification to Friendly

Just as a heads-up, I made a small modification on User:Ioeth/friendlywelcome.js (see this diff). The change is so that Friendly knows that the {{welcomeunclesam}} template can put an article name in if one is provided, as the template had been modified to support it. Did I do it right? And I think I'm either missing something either on the code or the template, because it's not working. Can you look and see if you see anything wrong? I figured out what the deal was. The value that it was trying to reference the artHash array with didn't have the proper capitalization, so it defaulted to false when it couldn't find the change that you made. It's a bug that's been in there for a long time, apparently; it just never had any effect before. Do a CTRL + F5 to get the new script code and you should be good to go! Man-Pop Festival

I have added one reference to the page and hope to add more. Is this enough for you to remove the tag? I am not entirely certain of the protocol here, particularly as to whether the initial caution should be removed by the editor placing same, rather than by me.

Thank you for not deleting the article in the interim since, in terms of Winnipeg, this festival was very important, and is also part of the history of the early international success of Led Zeppelin.

The page keeps being deleted because the content that you add for it does not assert the notability of the subject. From the Criteria for Speedy Deletion:

An article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability; to avoid speedy deletion an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, just give a reasonable indication of why it might be notable. A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types are not eligible for deletion by this criterion. If controversial, as with schools, list the article at Articles for deletion instead.

Those factors may, if you can find reliable sources that can verify the notability. Please take a look at those two links to get more information about reliable sources and Wikipedia's verifiability policy. The details you've outlined wouldn't necessarily qualify the article for inclusion, though. As it says in the notability guideline, "individual chapters of national and international organizations are usually not notable enough to warrant a separate article unless sufficient notability is established through reliable sources that extend beyond the organization's local area". We are not a chapter of a national organization so we cannot fall under these guidelines limiting an article. That may be true, but the notability of Omega Tau is not inherited from Verne Lundquist. Yes, Mr. Lundquist is notable enough to have an article about him here, but that does not mean that every organization that he has ever belonged to does (i.e., the organizations can surely be mentioned in his article, but this does not mean that each one is notable enough to have an article of its own). The standard way of demonstrating notability involves showing that others have deemed it worthy of being written about. Airchiving

Hi loeth, Tried to submit "Airchiving" content to the wikipedia but it's been rejected. Is the issue with the content is that I'm listing www.airchiving.com as an external link? If that's the case, if I search for wikipedia entry on wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org is listed as an external link in that entry also. Vlasha, I've deleted Airchiving twice now for multiple reasons. First, the "article" is written like an advertisement (WP:CSD#G11), does not assert the notability of the company (WP:CSD#A7), and contains no reliable, independent sources to back up any of the article content. Have a look at Wikipedia's your first article tutorial and see if you can learn how to contribute while meeting our policies and guidelines. Thanks! I disagree with the assessment of the latest version of "Airchiving". I was in the process of deleting the db tag when the article was deleted. The only difference between that and the other versions that I deleted was that the latest one did not have links to parked domains. Other than that, they were word-for-word identical. Furthermore, a Google search of "Airchiving" yields only 3 results, only 1 of which appears to be relevant, and that page doesn't even contain the word anymore. Hi, I don't think it is a good practice to speedy delete article while people are in the middle of work on them. You can place a tag or whatever. Now could you be so kind to recreate the article and give be an hour or two. BTW knighted people are not subjects to speedy by default. Cheers. Any article can be subjected to an AfD debate, regardless of content, if someone proposes it. The stub article that you created about "Elihu Lauterpacht" did qualify for speedy deletion under criteria A7. It did not assert the need for an independent article about him outside of the scope of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, which is why I deleted it. So sorry if I have offended you, as I mean no disrespect. Perhaps in the future, you should create articles such as this one in your userspace and then work on them there until they have sufficient content to be moved into the main article space. It's starting to look really good. A great way to let folks know that you're still working on the article is to use that {{underconstruction}} tag that I popped up top there. A new article is much more likely to be given leeway if it has that tag up at the top there. Hi, I just created a stub kind of article on Robert Moses Kin on which you marked articleissues today.

• I am not related to him in anyway in language, race or profession. He is a popular artist in bay area, california, and also performs in many cities in U.S.A. He is also a faculty member at Stanford.
• I was searching for information oh him, and found it on google, but could not find any article on wikipedia. So I added an article here.
• Stanford faculty page is more reliable than lot of other resources. However there is lot of information on him on web. Please see RMK on web, images, news, in blogs etc. You may also notice historical archives on Robert Moses. I also added some reviews on him or his shows in external links.
• Let me know how I can improve the article so that you can remove the tag.

Looks like you've done some great work with that article! I especially like all of the relevant references that you've added to prove the subject's notability. When it comes to tags like the ones I added to that article, you don't have to consult with an administrator or whoever placed them in order to remove them. All you have to do is make sure that they no longer apply, which they don't. So, in other words, I never planned on removing the tags, but since you're the one who expanded the article and added all of the references, I think you should have the honor of pulling them off of there.  :-) Cheers, and keep up the good work! I do not believe the article to be advertising the company, or giving any misleading information. I did, in part because the article didn't assert the notability of the organization, which, as I'm sure you know, is different than having notability. Even though I marked it as A7, it would have also qualified for speedy deletion under G11, as it has repeated creations by User:Wvlt. They may be a tax-exempt non-profit, but they aren't exempt from our policies on COI and spam. Let me know if you have any other questions! Block of User:Gregory Welteroth Advertising

I am not going to revert your block of User:Gregory Welteroth Advertising, but except for the objectionable name, can you please point out any spam edits they engaged in? I have looked at all of their contribtions and they look like a typical newbie, making small edits that are not vandalism, but also not spam. If they changed their name, would you unblock? Just curious, Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 20:23, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

The objectionable name in this case I think is special, because it is a full business name, not just an abbreviation, etc. like a lot of the spam usernames that show up at UAA are. Simply allowing this user to make edits, to me, constitutes spamming on their part, as it puts that full company name in edit logs wherever the user goes. I chose to make the block because UberScienceNerd left a {{uw-username}} message on their page about 24 hours ago and it elicited no response. 24-hours felt like a sufficient amount of time to wait to see if the user would respond, especially since he/she has made edits since the message was placed. Since there was no response, I felt that a block was warranted, even though none of the users edits were spammy. I've got no problem with him/her changing their username at all; whether we encourage him/her to do it, which has already been tried, or force him/her to, as I did today. If he/she does decide to communicate on their talkpage, unblocking is just fine if they immediately head to RFCU. Hope this clears things up. Cheers! I'm not too pleased with him, of course, but I realize that since the proxies weren't tracked as proxies, there's nothing you should have done differently. Can you see which IP addresses of his were blocked? If so, any of them that are registered to Intel corporation will most likely be corporate proxies. Not being an admin myself, I've no experience with the tools, and no idea how to figure out how to make things right by tagging the other proxies so his potential future misdeeds (I see he's been blocked thrice now) won't screw up the other 100k users who have access to those proxies. As for User:Gonbal2, I don't think it's a sockpuppet of the above users because the main thing that user edits is Spanish people by adding in the CIA Factbook definition. I don't think User:Wikfanzine is a sockpuppet of the ones listed above because that user put on the Talk:Latino (demonym) page that Europeans are not Latinos, but the above editors kept trying to introduce that Hispanic and Latinos were of any Romance-speaking background. It's possible that User:Littlejimmie is a sockpuppet of User:Wikfanzine, as he was removing Spanish Americans from Template:Hispanic and Latino Americans. In August, there was a user that kept trying to removed Spanish Americans from Template:Hispanic and Latino Americans, but I can't remember who that was. I think a spamblock here was a little extreme. Apparently I had declined the name at the same time you were blocking it, see here for my reasoning. Making a vanity page about yourself in your own userspace shouldn't be a blockable offense. I understand your reasoning somewhat, and I understand this user hasn't done anything here else besides creating his userpage a while back, but he isn't actually harming the encyclopedia. I think a more appropriate course of action would have been to take the pages to MfD and/or leave the user a polite note about what Wikipedia is all about case he returns. Tildes in warning templates?

Sorry to bug you again (see above and 'nit's). I saw someone drop a template on User talk:Ksthultz15 and wondered chiefly why they hadn't signed the warning. Looked and saw no 'subst' either, but wondered at the inclusion of signing tildes in the text of the template itself. Looked for who/why and found this. Umm, still left with why.

If you wanted to reinforce that template droppers should sign, put that into the instructions below the template? (Actually it does provide a way to sign as the 4th parameter?) But as it is, it might look to the droppers like magic will happen and the post will automatically be signed? (And nobody checks a simple warning using "Show preview" (cept me because I mess it up so often)). I see your explanatory comment, but that just makes me want to go fix that other template. Hi Luna Santin! Thanks for letting me know. I was hoping to get some more eyes on the situation. I asked Daniel Case to have a look at the unblock request since he originally tried to contact the user when the report was placed on WP:UAA over a week ago. The reason I ultimately chose to issue a block, even though the editor had good contributions, is because to me the username fell into two grey areas: the "spam" one, of course, and as FisherQueen pointed out, it could be interpreted in a potentially disruptive way. I have no strong feelings any one way or the other about unblock, other than the user hasn't really presented a good reason to continue using the name. I will say that I have, for some reason, a sneaking suspicion that the user may be a sockpuppet, given the familiarity with Wiki-procedure; not that it matters at this point, though. I recently submitted an article on the website Collegewikis.com. I was informed that it was deleted because it was "blatant advertising", while I understand that an article of such nature obviously brings attention to the site about which they are written, I believe the article was more informative and fact based than promotional. I also am respectfully curious as to why this same theory does not appy to other entries such as facebook or Wiggio which are similar sites.

Hello, I'm really not trying to come across rude here at all so hope you dont see it that way, but i was wondering if you could explain properly the reasons that the article 'Wiki Races', that i put up last night was removed within about two minutes of it being part of wikipedia? I could understand it if the page was in reference to something completely false, but for a subject that i know is honest and harmless i cannot see any logical reason for this. I think with the subject 'wiki races' even if it is not a recognised game/sport/pastime, it is still played across the UK in colleges as i have made reference to in my article, and you can see this because if you type into google "wikipedia races" there are many internet chat blogs that have people discussing the topic. Getting friendly with the classic skin

Hi I hope this is an ok place to ask you this. I tried to install Friendly, but I use the Classic skin in my preferences, and I can't see where the tab appears. If I click into the 'Modern' skin, I can see the tab. Does it turn up under the Classic skin, and can you see where it is? Hope you can help. OK, you used the big hammer and set an indef block. I was about to do some milder things, like put a {{subst:uw-spam1|Troubled Assets Relief Program}} notice on the Thacher Proffitt (talk · contribs) talk page, and had put a notice on the COI notice board. You're right, though; they had just spammed Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 too. Ah. I don't watch WP:UAA. Based on that, a block was entirely appropriate. I started several of the bailout-related articles, and I've been trying to put solidly cited info in there. Those articles are now headed in good directions; plenty of solid cites, and few rants. I myself run "Downside.com", so I spend a fair amount of time looking at this subject. No big deal. I believe this to be a mistake. IT-Politisk Forening is a several years old non-profit organization, which is quite influential in danish politics, and is often cited in danish media. (Please note that you cannot find danish news indexed on Google due to local danish copyright laws, but if you search locally in each newspaper (like Computerworld.dk), you will find a lot of coverage.) Thanks for checking with me, but those admins did the correct action. If you check the deletion log the reason for deletion prior was copyright issues. I undeleted it to demonstrate that copyright issues are not a problem anymore (we have permission from the copyright holder though the WP:OTRS system). Hey I noticed you've been poking around in the twinkle scripts. I was wondering how difficult it would be to program a user configurable parameter to set the default warning level of twinklewarn to "Blocking" (or another level, for that matter)? Xeno, I added another new configuration parameter (doc) to twinklewarn.js called "blankTalkpageOnIndefBlock". It defaults to false, but if you set it to true, it will blank a user's talk page before issuing an indef block notice per WP:UW. I thought you might like that one too! Also, if you want, I can delete your custom twinklewarn.js under U1 for you since you're no longer using it.

You've attempted to move it back to user namespace at least twice. Well, it's back in the article namespace. Hostel8 - removal from Wiki

You kindly removed my hostel8 page from wiki. The sole reason I put it there was to promote the historical building it is located in. There was not a single word mentioned about: pricing, promotions, high or low seasons. Not even a word about the facilities, features, booking options. Just plain info about the building character and it's surroundings. But... ok. I can leave without it. But why don't you go further? Columns

"div class="references-small" style="-moz-column-count:2; column-count:2;" and "reflist|2" no longer is parsing text into two equal columns. Its been that way for a few weeks. Can you peek to see if they are using a common subroutine to parse text in half? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but something changed. See here for an example. I think it may be counting hidden text as part of the count to see where to divide in half. Yes, it implies that your username is "Sasha" when it is actually "Sodin". If you want "Sasha" to be your username, you can put in a request to change or usurp it. Also, the signature did not contain a link to your talk page and did not contain the UTC datestamp, both of which are highly recommended by WP:SIG. In the case of this page, the bot that archives old threads gets messed up when it finds signatures that don't have the UTC datestamp, which prompted me to remind you to use ~~~~ to sign your posts. You can customize your signature in your preferences, and WP:SIG has instructions on how to do that. Let me know if you have any questions or need any help! Reverting Application Portfolio Management

Hi Matt, There seem to be some users completely messing up the Application Portfolio Management page. This started today and I agree with your removal of the latest change by Bekesg. But I think to be correct, the page should revert back to what it has been for the last several months, without anyone complaining... It seems it all started today, for whatever reason. But the page does contain references to vendors as it is now (Borland, Microsoft - why can those be referenced but not IBM or Microfocus or whoever?). I haven't seen any changes that offended the spirit of Wiki..

Hello Stor stark7. I've reviewed the page you linked to and a few others. In the case of double jeopardy, if the behavior had completely stopped after you were placed on the restriction, it would seem unfair to propose a ban based on the same evidence. Now, I don't want words to be put into my mouth, so I'm going to try to be very clear with this. If the only evidence presented in the Piotrus 2 case was the same that I used in my decision to place you on the Digwuren restriction list, it would be double jeopardy. In this case, though, I don't believe it is. ArbCom cases usually attempt to identify patterns of behavior by illustrating isolated incidents and linking them together over time. It is not double jeopardy to use the evidence of the incidents that I reviewed before placing you on the Digwuren list along with other evidence before and after in that way. You were placed on the restriction for some, what should have been, isolated incidents. If you recieve a 1 year ban from this ArbCom case, you should understand that it is, rather, for a pattern of behavior that the community and arbitrators have deemed inappropriate that encompasses the Digwuren list evidence but is not limited to it. In other words, I think double jeopardy is wrong, but this is not double jeopardy and being placed on the Digwuren list does not absolve you of your behavior before or after 4 January 2008. They also include for example a diff of some random guy who didn't like one of the articles I'd created making a comment on my "viewpoints", and some other assertions, some of which were analyzed here. But never mind, since the Arbitrator didn't feel it relevant enough to discriminate between diffs and comment on each used by him as evidence I guess I'll never reach clarity on this point. Although this has been explained to you before, I'll explain it again. Rollback is granted to users who have experience and that's based on both your edit count, of which you have many, and the amount of time you've been active. You only have 4 edits before 2 days ago. You need more experience in the form of time, not necessarily edits. Your work is good, and I hope you keep it up, but you should give it a solid month of reverting without rollback privilege before you request it again because your continued requests are becoming disruptive. Article Survival

Hello Ioeth, I believe my article was deleted and I was curious how I could avoid this from happening in the future. I am trying to create an entry for a company/concept called 'Zingo Transportation.' My article might've been deleted due to an advertising bylaw and I definitely don't want to violate any terms/agreements. The concept of Zingo Transportation is that after a night of drinking, you are driven home in your own car by a driver who puts the motorbike in the trunk of your car, and then drives the motorbike to the next customer.
