I think the page needs a total reworking after comparing it to the other list of (state) hurricanes articles. Mine was based off of a literal list, which was fun to type. Hehe, that was mainly because Hurricane Ele (2002) got me a little annoyed so I suddenly couldn't edit as much. But a newly added FL is rejuvenating, and I also have to create a GA outline for Dylan620. The little fishstorms also are enjoyable since they're easy to write and quick (in relative terms) to finish. Pacific typhoon articles

Since the project appears to be getting active in improving the season articles (long delayed woohoo,) I've been directing my continuing process of improving articles I've significantly contributed to GA status to season articles. Recently, this included the 1982 Pacific typhoon season, and I plan on getting the 1981 and 1983 seasons to GA this month...seems like they just need the extra info from HKO and season summaries and they're done. At some point during the process, I noticed that the 1939 Pacific typhoon season GA article was missing a season summary. I was unclear after looking at this article whether the Pacific typhoon season articles needed season summaries like the Atlantic and Pacific hurricane season articles did, since at the time the 1939 Pacific typhoon article was the only one to reach GA in that basin. I've been thinking about this for a while so to end my contemplation over this, I'll just ask. Would you be willing to be my mentor for adminship and the requirements that are needed to become one? I thought you would say that, but you are a really great editor/admin, and learning from ones greater than oneself is (IMO) one of the best ways to learn.

This coaching/teaching wouldn't be the main block behind an adminship on my part, but the basis on how to be one, knowing the tools, policies, do's and don'ts, etc...

Answers to the questions:

• 1. It depends on what you mean by contributions. In terms of a literal edit or article, I think would be the more in-depth view at the more minor storms in the seasons. In a non-edit sense, helping others and answering issues is a more prominent thing than an edit.
• 2. Almost came clean on this one. One 3RR mishap with Hurricane Hernan (2008). I made 6 reverts within an hour and a half. There is also the everlasting controversy with Evan. I was with him from the start, so I don't really want to see him fall like he is now. He is trying, although it's not that noticeable, his writing has improved in the article mainspace, no the talk pages. Other than that, I don't think I've gotten any warnings other than the occasional off-topic conversations on talk pages.
• 3. With an extra admin having access to the tools, it allows for quicker responses (not that they are quick to begin with) and an extra eye on catching vandals. My main reasoning with the tools is not to have them for the sake of having them, but to have the ability to use them when someone needs them to be used or a user is in need of a block.

Article I am most proud of...I would say at the moment, Tropical Storm Karina (2008). But once I see how the 2005 Pacific hurricane season plays out, it could shift to that article. 1994 Pacific typhoon season

I've been working on this article the last week or two, completing one of the only tasks where Chacor and I worked together before his departure (no sniping or anything!) How do you determine the US equivalent for foreign currencies, let alone how much the damage would be worth nowadays? We have a few damage estimates in the article that are not converted into US dollars, and I'm not sure it will be able to pass GA without the issue being resolved. Chiming in on your oppose, here. WP:VG has had a longstanding policy of not requiring citations for straight plot summaries in general. There are multiple reasons for this, including that the game itself is considered an acceptable primary source, that mainstream coverage of the plot of video games is often incorrect or more generally incomplete, and that citing such sources which contain the entire plot, for example game guides or walkthroughs fall afoul of our sourcing policies. Season infoboxes

While you're removing the names from the top, can you remove the italics too? If you guys want it, it can be easily added to the code. Formatting shouldn't be done within the parameters. Potapych (talk) 03:18, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

For example, 2008 Atlantic hurricane season has Ike italicized (and Arthur and Paloma). I don't like text formatting within the parameters because it means we can't change the template to give everything the same format without screwy results. (I say this about references in templates too - you never know if we'll want to change something to an input for an expression. It's also really hard to read.) The names section seems a bit pointless if you just have the four or so listed there. However, the names list is a bit long in that basin. I suggested earlier on a talk page that we list just the remaining names from the previous list, and the complete next list. (There are four lists in the Southwest Pacific - A, B, C, & D). This way the section would have some context, and it probably wouldn't carry over any retired names or names that have been removed (which might cause some confusion). Class

There's nothing wrong with a discussion of the class of an article, but the class of Ike and Kyle had been switched a few times since their creation (Ike's got longwinded and drug me into the debate.) In retrospect, I do like the compromise which was reached regarding class of an article in the absense of a TCR (C class at most,) but believe we occasionally get overzealous as a project in downgrading articles. It seems people are generally allergic to assigning C class for some reason. Some projects still don't use it. Do you think it is a lack of differentiation between C class and Start/B class, or some other reason? Thegreatdr (talk) 13:07, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

My take on the project articles has been similar to Yellow Evan's. I like the idea of being able to improve all of the articles single-handedly from Start/Stub class to FA. The problem is that none of us has enough time in the day to do this. Once I realized this wasn't possible, I tried to elevate many of the stubs to start, then the start articles to B class. But this didn't solve the Stub/Start dilemna we have in the project because people are constantly creating tiny new articles. Ultimately, I've fallen into a role of improving articles I created/upgraded to B class to GA, since FA can take a significant amount of time per article, particularly for non-storm articles. It has taken a year to get about 40 GA articles passed...so it will apparently be another year or two before I accomplish this action, especially if I keep tackling extra season articles. WPAC season

Hink, a trop met noticed the problem with the table listing the WPAC hurricane season as only running from April to January, when it actually runs year-'round. The text is correct, but the table is not. Can you please change it to run 12 months? Also if you go to the reference attributing the season length (the HRD FAQ) it says the WPAC season runs the entire year.

International Best Track

I saw that link and I tried it out with one of the more troubled track maps. Would this be preferable to the JTWC ones? Do you think it would be okay to change some of the information in the article to reflect this, since we don't have a definite category for this storm from anywhere else?

I thought it was 1-min. We don't know anything about Tracy except it's category and the speed of the wind gusts. 2-3 on the SSHS is about right for a category 4 storm in Australia. Linda (1997)

I'll take a look tomorrow at this. A problem I have to deal with in the TC rainfall climatology on the western side of North America is trying to separate out the monsoon surge-induced precipitation that moves well to the east of the tropical cyclone up the Mexico coast into the Southwest from the storm related effects for systems which move north to northwest offshore Mexico. Consider staying in a limited capacity

One of the gripes people have with wikipedia is that it appears a bunch of kids wrote it. Granted, many do, and you were one of them, but you're also one of the most talented of the bunch. There don't seem to be many of us on wikipedia beyond 21 (I've got 15 1/2 years on you.) The skirmishes which occurred concerning the importance of the Ike article where one of the former editors called me at work turned out to be someone my age, if you can believe it. You'd have thought otherwise. Trust me, it is possible to live a life AND edit wikipedia, even if it's just minutes a day, or an hour a week. One of the things you learn with age is how to balance time more effectively. Writing more effectively also comes with time. If I didn't know how to balance time or improve writing style over the years, I certainly wouldn't be on here much. I doubt wikipedia will lose its importance over the coming years as the articles increase in value and scope. Losing someone with your writing skill, especially one who knows the system, would be a significant loss. Just a thought. You're free to do what you want, of course. For me, wikipedia is both an outlet and outreach. The outreach couples wikipedia with my work-related research, and management has approved the time I wiki on shift, as long as it is work/research related. If it's interfering with your life, then yeah, leaving is the best option. As far as I can tell, wikipedia should be here for a while longer, and one or two of us will probably still be around. One aspect I like about editing articles on here is that I discover something new, even when researching general articles like weather, weather forecasting, and now quantitative precipitation forecasting.
