I've never heard this complaint, although I admit I'm not as active as you are in the film project. I think as long as a wikilink can add further understanding of a theme or specific detail, especially for more challenging words, it is worthy of inclusion. Now, if you're talking about too many external links, then yes, there is a point where too many links diffuse the focus of the reference materials.

With regards to my edits on A Serious Man, if you feel I've gone too far, feel free to undo anything I've done. 20:43, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

My two cents on the Joshua Tree "Other Uses" Link

Hello Hoof,

• I try and stay on top of that Joshua Tree California Article because I happen to live there. My thoughts are exactly what you responded to in that ridiculous Feedback post. If he wants info on U2's Joshua album, what is he doing in Joshua Tree, California? The man was an idiot, as I'm afraid are most who seem to leave article feedback. When ever I want a good laugh, I start reading the feedback posts. In my opinion, it would have been better left without the "other uses" link. It really makes no sense. Now if someone were to search "Joshua Tree", I can see an "Other Uses" link there. I won't mess with it if you really like it, but I wanted to let you know how I felt about it. It doesn't hurt anything, it just doesn't make any logical sense. Don't be too surprised if someone else doesn't reverse your edit. That's why I try to cite the feedback in my edit summary so others will know even though it may not make complete sense, there was a good intention behind it. I agree it's unnecessary, but I ultimately added it thinking if one person was confused enough to comment about it, there could be others equally as confused. I've been gauging the feedback as coming from the typical user who reads the article - kind of our "customer cross-section" as editors. It's possible that he thought the city* (*I know it's not a city proper - see the next feedback comment!) was the namesake for the album, although I believe the album is named for the tree instead. Like you said, the hatnote doesn't hurt anything by being there, but I won't fight you if you or anyone else removes it. Hoof Hearted (talk) 20:58, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

• • Ok, we'll leave it there and see what happens. I have to leave you with some more thoughts on the subject however: There are no "Other Uses" for Joshua Tree, California. Also, I truly believe that the feedback forum is just another area where the "Vandal" has fun with us. We all have the same editing power; including the Vandals who leave smartass remarks in the feedback section. If that person sincerely thought there should be a reference to U2 in our Article, he was perfectly competent to do so. However, he knew that if he had made the edit, it would have been reversed. By making a wisecrack in the feedback section, he not only gets to laugh after he makes the post, but after the link was added as well. It would be like looking up Diamond Mining, and getting pissed that Neil Diamond (big fan by the way...lol) isn't mentioned in Mining Diamonds in South Africa.

Regarding the feedback, I'm assuming good faith and trying not to bite the newbies. I specified "Joshua Tree" in the {{other uses of}} template. Since the template is set up for this option (for a dab page other than the name of the article), I don't think I'm the first editor to do this. But your Neil Diamond example is valid. Article Feedback Tool update

Hey Hoof Hearted. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Blue Line (Pittsburgh)

If someone types “Blue Line (Pittsburgh)”—which is the standard naming format for a colored transit line—(or some variation thereof) into a search box, they are almost certainly looking for only one or both of the two pages listed. Sending them back to the main DAB page—even to a (semi-relevant) subsection—just makes the process longer. I don’t understand the insistence on slavishly following what is merely a guideline which is supposed to be “treated with common sense, and [to which] occasional exceptions may apply” (emphasis added). Also, are you planning to police the incoming links and insure that no links are erroneously made to this disambiguation page? I completely agree with your first original sentence. However I fail to see why redirecting to Blue Line#Pennsylvania makes the process (appreciably) longer. The advantages of consolidation outweigh the very minor disadvantages of seeing additional lines of text. I think your proposal to merge the 2 lines (which are really just branches of the same line) into a single (Pittsburgh) article has merit. I was merely responding to BD's {{Incomplete disambiguation}} tag (which I agreed with), and applied the guideline as I saw fit. However, I'm not that passionate about this case. As it currently stands (with Blue Line (Pittsburgh) as a DAB page), I think it's "wrong", but I'll leave it alone. Would you also argue that we need to make sub-DAB pages for Blue Line (Hong Kong), Blue Line (London), and Blue Line (New York)? Hoof Hearted (talk) 14:19, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Now I don't know if you're being facetious or not, but the only time I've heard of the Picadilly line referred to as “the blue line” is when someone is explaining the tube map; likewise “the blue line” in New York is the Eighth Avenue Line (or the “{{nycs|A}} train”, or “{{nycs|C}}” or “{{nycs|E}}”). I'm being completely serious - and raising another pet peeve of mine. If Picadilly line and the Victoria line are both going to be listed at Blue Line (disambiguation) because they are both commonly referred to as "Blue Line" (a point that I question), then they are both "Blue Lines" that exist in London. By your argument, there should be a separate DAB page. Conversely, if you're saying there is only one "Blue Line" in the cities mentioned, perhaps we could remove the others from the dab page? Just so you know, there really is no Blue Line in New York City, or any other colored line. Part of the IND Eighth Avenue Line also contains the "{{nycs|B}} and, or {{nycs|D}} trains," which joins that line from the IND Sixth Avenue Line, and leaves at the IND Concourse Line. Those are both Orange. The A train also runs along the IND Fulton Street and Rockaway Lines, the C train also runs along the IND Fulton Line (and really should take it over between Euclid Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard, IMO), and the E train runs along the IND Queens Boulevard Line (which it shares with the "{{nycs|F}}, {{nycs|M}}, and {{nycs|R}} trains") and one of the Archer Avenue Lines. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 15:30, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

@Writtenright: Gladly. The section Nebraska State Capitol#Dimensions and features contains the phrase "The spire—The Sower and its pedestal—add an additional 32 feet...". Although "spire" is not the correct word here, it seems to capture the idea that the dome is topped by a thingamajig consisting of the statue and its pedestal. Is there a better word - ideally an architectural term for "a thing on top of a dome"? This usage is also repeated in the table of the Nebraska State Capitol#Construction section, this time referring to The Sower alone. Hoof Hearted (talk) 18:39, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Timeline issues

Hey, thanks for your timeline edit on Quiet Riot. I reverted because the problem is done now but I'll fill you in. The timelines do that every so often for no apparent reason, and although the issue can usually be fixed by doing what you did, it's not the cause. I have yet to discover the cause, but almost every time, adding a space somewhere, or changing the order of anything (Basically any edit) fixes the problem.
