WikiCup 2020 November newsletter
The 2020 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round going down to the wire. Our new Champion is Lee Vilenski (submissions), the runner-up last year, who was closely followed by Gog the Mild (submissions). In the final round, Lee achieved 4 FAs and 30 GAs, mostly on cue sport topics, while Gog achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on important battles and wars, which earned him a high number of bonus points. The Rambling Man (submissions) was in third place with 4 FAs and 8 GAs on football topics, with Epicgenius (submissions) close behind with 19 GAs and 16 DYK's, his interest being the buildings of New York.
The other finalists were Hog Farm (submissions), HaEr48 (submissions), Harrias (submissions) and Bloom6132 (submissions). The final round was very productive, and besides 15 FAs, contestants achieved 75 FAC reviews, 88 GAs and 108 GAN reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!
All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement! DYK for Lion Attacking a Dromedary
On 10 November 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lion Attacking a Dromedary, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 2017, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History discovered that its 19th-century diorama Lion Attacking a Dromedary contained a human skull? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lion Attacking a Dromedary. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lion Attacking a Dromedary), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- @Amakuru, Narutolovehinata5, and Yoninah: Thank you for getting this across the finish line. I had some health problems pop up and was away from Wikipedia --Guerillero | Parlez Moi 21:43, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Wow, it looks like this made our WP:DYKSTATS page, too! Yoninah (talk) 21:45, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

I-ban problems
Hey Guerillero,
I would like your advice on an I-ban related issue, but I need to cite two diffs by the editor on the other side. May I do that here? François Robere (talk) 11:32, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- @François Robere: There is enough plausible deniability here that blocking would be contentious --Guerillero | Parlez Moi 15:28, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not looking to sanction them, I'm looking to protect myself.
- The other editor clearly follows at least some of the discussions I'm involved in. They contacted an editor I filed against, linked to a past case I filed, and suggested the editor contacts the admins who ruled there. They then offered more material by email, and later stated that they "devoted [their] entire time" to collecting "evidence". This may be "plausibly deniable" from the point of view of AE, but from the point of view of an editor who's had his share of stalking and PAs, that's not exactly reassuring.
- But as I said, I'm not looking to sanction them, I'm looking to protect myself. I'd be happy if you could clarify with that editor whether their comments were directed at, or meant to invoke or imply anything about myself, and remind them that WP:IBAN prevents them from involving me in whatever it is that they're planning ("a big BOOM", in their words). That's one thing. The other thing - X informing Y of something, which Y then brings up against me, knowing (presumably) that I can't comment without risking an I-ban violation with X - borders on WP:PROXYING, and that's just not cool. What are my options in such cases? François Robere (talk) 19:25, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- @François Robere: I don't currently have the bandwidth to sort out what exactly is going on in the Eastern Europe topic area, sorry. I get that you are frustrated, but I am not getting involved in contentious issues right now --Guerillero | Parlez Moi 20:57, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message
Your statement about DS.
I just read your statement at WP:ACE2020/C and wanted to say I agree with you 100% about DS. I've been an admin forever. Every time I think about imposing DS, I go read the instructions again, come to the conclusion that I don't really understand how it works, and move on to something else. -- RoySmith (talk) 01:13, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
- @RoySmith: I barely understand how DS works and I was on the committee. The best way to make the DS regime more equitable is to increase the number of admins willing to work in the area. --Guerillero | Parlez Moi 01:22, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Arb Election
Good luck with the election. Sorting out DS would be a really positive thing to do. SilkTork (talk) 15:08, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
- @SilkTork: Thank you! I hope the community give me a chance. --Guerillero | Parlez Moi 15:10, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
