Heya, I see you've made a few edits to making edits to the 4chan article to get it up to date. Long overdue! Great work, especially with the lead section. I get increasingly anxious that the article will lose its FA status if it gets anymore stale. Just a heads up that, after I settle with some other Wikipedia projects, I plan to be directing efforts on the 4chan article also. I plan to restructure the 'Internet memes' section into 'Cultural impact', collapsing what's currently there and adding more subsections that's more up-to-date. Just letting you know. Thank you again! Derick1259 (talk) 20:52, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Sorry for the little late reply, was kinda caught up with other Wikipedia things. To answer your question first: meant doing it myself, don't quite have a the clout to get a taskforce on this! A lot of people would be ideal, but I think there's no harm getting at it with one or two people and seeing if a ball starts rolling. Like I said, the update to the lead section was particularly important because most people visiting Wikipedia only read that section - so you probably half the work already! As for your other remarks, those are some interesting suggestions. The ethnography, culture, history is deeply fascinating to me; I assume you've taken some inspiration from the (unfortunately short-lived) Bibanon project? One would have be careful with primary sources, it is Wikipedia policy, per WP:Primary to keep use of such resources limited. The priority in my mind is that, while 4chan in the 00s is well documented, there's hardly anything about the site culture in the 10s documented - and it's nearly the 20s now. Once that's done, I think we can consider moulding that with primary sources. Will keep you updated. Derick1259 (talk) 12:57, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Dragon Ball (manga), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Son Goku (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:TH01, Highly Responsive to Prayers cover art.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:TH01, Highly Responsive to Prayers cover art.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Kissxsis request move

Hello Goszei
I notice you commented on this Request Move, then changed your comment later. That's fine, of course, but it is not a good idea to change the wording under the original timestamp, as it can be misleading. It is better to strike through the redacted comment and just add the new one with the correct time and date attached (see WP:REDACT in the talk page guidelines). I've taken the liberty of restoring and striking your original comment, and correcting the timestamp for your new one, if you are unfamiliar with the process; I hope you don't mind. 4chan

Yo, you asked to be updated on matters relating to updating the 4chan article. First thing to do: I've just started in my sandbox User:Derick1259/sandbox3 a rewrite of the 'Internet memes' section into 'Internet culture', and stubbing out new sections. What needs to be done is the list of old memes needs to be strung into prose, and few other subsection. Yes, I am going to cover My Little Pony - let's be frank, that's the first thing that comes to mind for things that happened in 2010. Feel free to wade into my sandbox page, if you want to get to work on things I've mentioned, or have any more ideas. Thanks. Derick1259 (talk) 19:14, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

Vandalism warnings

Hi there, I just saw your report to AIV. Just a heads up really - we don't usually consider warnings as old as that when assessing behaviour by IPs - even with static IPs, it could be a different person using it, and this IP hasn't edited for over a year before today. Today's edit, while not really constructive, isn't unambiguously vandalism - it's misguided, but all they did was describe a film as a masterpiece - not ideal, and disruptive if they were doing it repeatedly after being asked to stop, but I can't justify blocking on that one edit. Come back if they keep doing it, of course. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 12:57, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Pandemic lead

I'm not sure what happened there. I worked on the cleanup pass all day, pretty much, and thought I had "walked through" and integrated every change to the article between the copy I started from and what was then current. I guess I missed some edit to the lead in there somehow, which you rectified here, I looks like.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  04:46, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

Pings only work if they are added the same time as a signature. Not for comments already signed. I guess they were designed that way so when you reply to a comment it doesn't just reactivate all the old pings. I sometimes re-sign my comment for that purpose. See also. Happy editing :). Template:Ruby-ja display issues

I saw your reversion to the previous edit on Template:Ruby-ja that was making the upper text size larger, but from what I can see, so far it hasn't taken affect anywhere besides a discussion page, and no edits I make to the unaffected pages are triggering any corrections. For example, 真実(しんじつ) currently remains unaffected on this page. I'm wondering if it's either just a personal display issue or an issue with the site itself. About Southeast Asian anime licensee Muse Communication

Hello Goszei,

I am 2001:44C8:4566:92DD:1:0:A46:13BD as you've seen on various anime/manga articles.

Muse Communication Co, Ltd. (also known as Muse Asia) is actually a legit company.

Muse Asia is a branch of Taiwan's Muse Communications Co., Ltd. for anime distribution in Southeast Asian territories. They license titles to streaming services such as Netflix, TV networks like Animax Asia and Aniplus Asia, as well as local TV stations.

They also have their own YouTube channel that simulcasts anime for Southeast Asian countries called "Muse Asia".

Their official website is the one I cited in articles.

They're a reputable corporation in the Southeast Asian industry, how unreliable can they be?

Thank you, I wish my edits will not be reverted. It might be necessary for me to make an article for the company with enough citations and information if my edits keep getting reverted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChickyBros (talkcontribs) 08:48, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Nisio Isin Page

Hi, I'm Crosswrm who's editing the Nisio Isin page. I'm thinking of cleaning-up the page after I add all the published works he have. The Monogatari description is pretty clustered and it seem unnecessary because the Monogatari Novel page already has all the information about the arcs. The same will be done for Mazemonogatari (the info was already there before but for some reason a user removed it). My goal is that the Nisio Isin page have all the basic information about the works he has published (date of publication, title, ISBN) and slowly making a dedicated page for each series with all the possible information about them (variants, rereleases, info about chapters, etc). I just want to tell you beforehand to not be a big surprise when all that information get removed, and also because you where updating the page constantly for quite some time already. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crosswrm (talkcontribs) 22:57, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

About Unreliable source reversions

Hi, I am Fate Grand Order Babylonia, Nice to meet you. I noticed the reversions you made on 4 of my edits citing Unreliable Source. To that I would humbly request that I cross referenced all those edits with the information provided by the cited website before citing the website. I recently found them and it seems that they are a new brand of anime blogging. They do have a youtube channel and over 11k followers in dedicated group slots on Facebook. Anyhow, sir I request you not to revert any further edits, especially citing "Unreliable source" since I cross referenced and verified the information myself and it was very true not to mention precise. Good day to you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fate Grand Order Babylonia (talkcontribs) 20:59, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

My recent importance assessments

Hello, I am writing this in anticipation of feedback for my recent WP:ANIME importance assessments.

I created a thread at WT:ANIME a few weeks ago with some of my rationale (see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anime and manga#Which_articles should be considered top-importance?), and will elaborate further here:

  • Our current project assessment guidance (here) states that The criteria used for rating article priority are not meant to be an absolute or canonical view of how significant the topic is. Rather, they attempt to gauge the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up the topic (and thus the immediate need to have a suitably well-written article on it).
  • Further guidance for how WP1.0 ratings should be used are given:
    • (here) – Subject is extremely important, even crucial, to its specific field. Reserved for subjects that have achieved international notability within their field.
    • and (here) – Subject is a must-have for a print encyclopedia.

I believe that the previous ratings did not quite follow these points of guidance. Early manga pioneers (e.g. Katsuji Matsumoto, Kitazawa Rakuten) are indeed "important" to the medium of manga and its history/development, but that does not translate exactly to their "importance" to the encyclopedia. I think that our project guidance puts it the best: "the probability of the average reader of Wikipedia needing to look up the topic." By this measure, there are only a handful of individuals in anime and manga who are considered "Top-importance", and I have tried to assess these as best I can. For the time being, I have moved the biography articles I have deemed as "not Top-importance" to "High-importance", which I think is more appropriate for a majority of them.

Please leave any feedback for my changes/rationale below. — Goszei (talk) 03:55, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Feedback

Regarding Image sizes

Hi, you keep reverting my addition of an image size value saying it makes the image 'inconsistent'. I would argue that not defining a specific size value leads to just that since the image then renders in whatever size thumbnail the Wikipedia image image renderer deems fit. Specifying a value across articles makes sure that all images are more or less the same size. There's a reason that parameter exists and I've found that 250px works best with the infobox images. Kindly explain your rationale! Prolix 💬 08:04, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

WP:IMAGESIZE, a policy, states that the lead image in an infobox should not impinge on the default size of the infobox. On my resolution, and I'm sure many others, your px value at Shinzo Abe impinges on the default size by widening the infobox.
In general, the IMAGESIZE policy states that there needs to be a good reason for changing image sizes from the default setting. It recommends, like you stated, "letting the image renderer choose to size it deems fit." — Goszei (talk) 08:22, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out Goszei, I hadn't come across this policy before. I'll let the renderer do its thing from now on, have a nice day. Prolix 💬 10:13, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Hirohiko Araki

Hello Goszei,

I am the Guy that did the recent change to the article of Hirohiko Araki. It is actually a well spread myth that Hirohiko Araki is a Vampire. Sorry that I did not provide any source, but that is quite hard considering the fact, that it is just a myth. Myths are not facts, they spread in internet forums. So the only source I can provide are links from reddit conversations. (https://www.reddit.com/r/StardustCrusaders/comments/2wyrlv/is_araki_a_vampire/ ; https://www.reddit.com/r/StardustCrusaders/comments/5avcp2/why_does_araki_look_so_young_despite_being_56/ ; https://www.reddit.com/r/StardustCrusaders/comments/34lmo7/microsofts_ageguessing_site_confirms_hirohiko/ ; https://www.reddit.com/r/StardustCrusaders/comments/auwqrg/how_did_araki_come_up_with_vampires/ ; https://www.reddit.com/r/ShitPostCrusaders/comments/f483qj/araki_the_vampire_this_man_just_doesnt_want_to_age/) I will recreate the change and will provide these links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arthurlool (talkcontribs) 00:29, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

@Arthurlool: Hello Arthurlool, I am aware of the myth surrounding the idea that Araki is a vampire, but it can only be mentioned in the article if a reliable source (see WP:RS) has reported on it. Please read the policy at this link: WP:USERGENERATED, which specifically forbids Reddit being used as a source. [1] this source from Anime News Network seems more suitable, but overall I question the encyclopedic relevance of this material in the first place. — Goszei (talk) 00:40, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Virtual YouTuber

Hello, Goszei. In a recent edit you made to the Virtual YouTuber article, you removed an image of Ironmouse, noting that it was low-quality. While that is true, the purpose of including that image was not for its quality, but to provide an example of a notable non-Japanese VTuber in the article. Currently, no other images of official character designs of non-Japanese VTubers are available to use, except for a non-free one of Projekt Melody, which is currently in her stand-alone article. Let me know, given this reasoning, if you think it's acceptable to add the Ironmouse image back to the Virtual YouTuber article. Jackdude101 talk cont 19:57, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

@Jackdude101: Hello, Jackdude101. I take the position that low-quality images detract from articles and should be removed, unless there is a strong rationale for their inclusion. I think the Ironmouse image has a couple of problems:
  • Most importantly, I don't think the Ironmouse image illustrates something that the free Mirai Akari and Nebasei Cocoro ones don't. I know she is an example of a non-Japanese VTuber, but visually I don't think this is apparent enough to be distinguishing (i.e. WP:NFCC-satisfying under "contextual significance").
  • I think that the Melody image would be more fit for use (as she is by far the most notable non-Japanese VTuber; perhaps the second is Hololive's Gawr Gura after her 1 million milestone), but the NFCC presents a problem in both those cases, like I explained. Ironmouse's image is even harder to justify in comparison, because she is less notable on the whole, in addition to this NFCC issue.
P.S. I think that your work on the article so far has been wonderful, and I hope you keep it up.

Sakura Kinomoto image

Not an expert in that series but shouldn't we let use a Sakura Kinomoto image from any of the main manga artists rather than Madhouse? At least this is the pattern that we try to use in character articles. If you think another colored manga image could replace the one I uploaded, feel free to replace it. I mean Lelouch from Code Geass was also made by Clamp but his primary media is anime which is why I used the compilation cover you originally used. My Apologies

I am sorry that I lost my temper whilst editing Stone Ocean. I just tend to get really pissed off when people misinterpret the ending. I also think that in this article, Pucci's goals are misunderstood. I hope you see this. Thank you.

P.S. As someone who knows about Jojo, how do you interpret the ending?

Politics21 (talk) 01:17, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

@Politics21: Wikipedia's policy on original research emphasizes the importance of "avoiding novel interpretations of primary sources". In the case of Stone Ocean, I've now made an edit that (hopefully) removes the speculative portions. — Goszei (talk) 01:40, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
@Goszei: It's perfect. It leaves it ambiguous and open to interpretation. I even have a theory that says that they lied about their names at the end. The point is, no one will need to get mad or speculative anymore. Politics21 (talk) 01:46, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
@Politics21: Hey I'm seeing this late but no hard feelings. I did not intend to frustrate anyone. I just reread the last chapter and it's unclear whether the last scene takes place in a new universe or the old one. I had interpreted it as a new (3rd) universe but that is never stated. So I think the way it is now is great. --Walnut56 (talk) 16:37, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Heya - got a question on the Ukiyo-e article

Hi - thanks for your edits on Ukiyo-e. I've got a question. One of the things I noticed was that a lot of the kanji for terms used in the article is sequestered to the Notes section - should it not be in the body of the article itself? --Ineffablebookkeeper (talk) 11:04, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

All-caps stylization

Thanks for the mention on the One Piece discussion. You've been doing great work trying to establish guidelines on various aspects and I see you've been quite active around the project. Keep it up!

One thing I probably would have mentioned in the original discussion had I not forgot about it is regarding "all-caps". Most users of the Latin script make a distinction between character case, having both a lowercase and uppercase alphabet. However, there isn't really such a distinction in Japanese. Most of the romaji (Roman characters) you'll encounter will be written in uppercase characters. That's not to say that lowercase isn't used, but the language itself doesn't treat it any differently, whereas in English case can indicate something is a name, the start of a sentence, yelling, etc.

So if uppercase is the "default" in Japanese, it's not really a stylization per se. Maybe if the title page has other Latin text written differently it could be. Or if the title is all-lowercase instead, maybe. It starts entering hazy territory… I thing clearer calls are things like l33tspeak, diacritics such as metal umlauts, vaRyiNg capitalization, or other replacement symbols (noted for Idolmaster). Anyway, just thought I'd share my thoughts on the previous discussion. I mostly agree with your approach for OP. Opencooper (talk) 09:29, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Non-free content and list articles

Greetings! I saw that you have uploaded a large number of images to populate character images on List of Touhou Project characters. Please be aware that per the terms of WP:NFLISTS guideline, such usage is generally not permitted. The amount of non-free images that are populating this article is extreme. The montages of characters that you generated and uploaded actually count individually as images for WP:NFCC purposes. As such, if we count each of these characters in the montages, there are actually more than 100 non-free images on this list article. Per this daily report, this would make this article the #1 article in non-free image use on the project, more than four times as much as the second most article.

Since these are user generated montages, we would need a separate, specific non-free rationale for each image within the montage. Thus, for example, with File:TH06 EoSD characters.png, we would need 7 different rationales for the image for every use of that image on the project.

Also, the rationales that you have been supplying on these images state "The article as a whole is dedicated specifically to a discussion of this work. ". This isn't the case. The article is not dedicated, as a whole, to these specific characters and thus the rationale is inaccurate.

Per WP:NFLISTS, I am removing these images from the article and tagging the images as orphaned, subject to deletion in 7 days, as appropriate. I considered leaving one or two images, in particular File:Reimu UFO.jpg and/or File:Marisa UFO.jpg, but they are already in use on the series main page at Undefined Fantastic Object, and there is no reason to use them here when they are used there. As a result of this action, the following images are now orphaned and will be deleted in 7 days:

I appreciate your efforts in trying to improve this list article. Unfortunately, we can not allow such non-free image use. If you have questions about this, let me know. I'll be happy to answer. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 20:26, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

@Hammersoft: Instead of being deleted, could the images be moved to the individual articles on the games? (see Category:Touhou Project games) — Goszei 22:24, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
  • If a fair use rationale argument could be made, maybe. But, honestly I doubt it. There needs to be a compelling reason why any individual non-free image is needed. Also, the montages are almost always problematic on the project. As I said, you would need to have a rationale for every image in the montage, and a compelling reason why we have to have each individual image. Just to show the character is rarely enough unless it is a character article dedicated to that character only. --Hammersoft (talk) 03:20, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

User:Goszei/sandbox

Hello, Goszei,

Due to some misconduct that occurred on Wikipedia years and years ago, admins are not able to delete pages that have more than 5,000 revisions. Your sandbox has been edited more than 6,000 times so you will have to request its deletion from a steward on the Wikimedia site.

On the positive side, what's it like to have a user page that can't be deleted by anyone on Wikipedia? ;-) Liz Read! Talk! 02:05, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Passione logo.png

Thanks for uploading File:Passione logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:42, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Legality of child pornography

I think this is about as complete as I am going to get for information. You can update the world map accordingly, I feel that it may need an overhaul though considering the factors involved. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 02:30, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

I started making one, but it got convoluted very quickly (and also conflicting with the information at Pornography laws by region). It turns out like a mess when accounting for legal caveats (like degree of reality) and lack of information. Maybe the map should just be scrapped? — Goszei (talk) 02:56, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
