Thanks Fylbecatulous for the good wishes - and many fold back to you! A special thanks for all the help, support & knowledge you have given me this past year. I've learned so much by watching how you do coding. The world of Wikipedia is overwhelming & not only have you been so kind to answer my questions. In doing so - you've shown me some tricks to make some tasks easier but also where I can go to learn more about my question. I still have a lot to learn & I'm gaining confidence to try editing more articles. I've done some work on the "Austin Music Scene" article. Doing so for example I learned about Dab Solver when a Bot flagged a couple of changes. I'd wondered how to reference an article where there are multiple articles with that name & how to specify which one. That article needs a bit of work. The history section is super long & covers 5 decades of music in Austin & I want to break it into sections by each decade. I still need to study more about working with photos!!!!! You've given me a number of places to review & helped guide me by watching what you did to help me with my adding pic to NO & with my Natasha pic to thank you - but I still find it so confusing but I'll figure it out. There's an popular Austin band called Mingo Fishtrap that I noticed doesn't have a pic - so I'll experiment with that one. Actually I'm going to a show of theres tonight. If I can't find one, I may ask them where I can get one. They also need more info & there seem to be a number of secondary articles for them. Soon I'll attempt to add my 1st new articles - for 2 crucial non profit org dedicated to helping Austin Music: Black Fret - an org building an endowment, gives grants out & generally provides lots of resources to musicians. Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) provides much needed health care for musicians - by paying their med bills or helping pay for their insur (which as you can imagine they almost never have). Based on my experience with new articles & what you've told me - I have to be super prepared because someone may be very aggressive "criticing" what I've done. As these are important articles & know of many references to them in other articles I'm so lucky that you were the person that took on the Nightowls article as "new music" one to review. You've been nothing but supportive from the beginning! I'm really proud of how the article turned out. I'm always telling people to look at it & they always are impressed with it. I know the band is super excited about it & always expresses their thanks to you. I look at the number of people that view it daily & when something happens for example the annoucement that they were in the 1st round of artists selected for 2016 SXSW - there was a huge spike in views. Or when one of their songs was selected as a song of the day in Atlantic Magazine. There are number of other instances like this. They know how to look at this & this information really helps up & coming bands like them figure out what's working for them. So thank you again for that & for everything. I spit shined his article a bit in the autumn because I wrote his article for the Simple English wiki. If you think this 'pedia is hard to crack, Simple is even tougher. I like it there and survive, but many times my feelings are hurt and I just place more cat images over my wounds. Of course, you may continue to ask me. By the way, I am not sure what articles you have on your watchlist, so not sure if you noticed yet: [1]. I added some info about The Nightowls to the article on FAME Studios. A mention works both ways and now the band is now linked in both articles (check the 'what links here' in the same tool link as 'page information' where page view stats used to live). The more page links, the better. If you check the band, only three article pages link to it. (besides you and I <wink> because we are discussing it...) Now check The Connells (another page I like to work on because they are local for me) and they have about 75 links (of course, they have been in existence longer, but one page at a time :)) The Nightowls can rightfully have stuff added about them to any related article. They are, after all, notable. I will not even agree that their edit summaries are harsh; they are constructive criticism. I have never been in an edit war or complained about to any noticeboard and my inherent stress level has to stay calm. Even on my favourite cat articles, if a change I make is reverted I bite my lip, breathe and have another cup of tea. Articles grow, shrink and change. When you mentioned working on The Connells article awhile back, I read the article then & was really impressed not only with them, but how the article was written. Especially how it was laid out & organized for a band with such an extensive history. Today I went back to look at some of the edits you did so I could pick up some more pointers. I also starting listening to their videos - they have so many! I ended up putting one of their channels on & just letting it cycle thru in the background. I really love their sound! I thought 74-75 (10 million views!) was great, esp the flashback to their 70’s haircuts! I really like Fun & Games, both title song & others. I can see why they make references to REM – who I love, but as the article says, that’s really unfair because they do have their own distinct sound. Thanks for turning me on to them, they’re really good! 1 last comment on The Nightowls – just to let you know where I was coming from. The article was vandalized a couple of times early on. In 1 instance they took out a whole section & replaced it with a nonsense sentence. That was before I found out about watching an article, but fortunately it was caught by someone (I guess due to the number of words changed). It was late sun after my regular full day of being out, when I got home & saw the email on the update. I saw the top section was reduced to 1 sentence. Then looking at the comments, I saw “what a mess..” about the top. For their initial touring in 2003 thru out Texas & La, it said “of course this is what bands do…”. So then I looked him up & saw his categories were things like “Deletionist WP”, “Third-Gender WP”, “WP Sex workers” etc. Then I looked at his talk & saw all these really lengthy arbitration entries & thought they must be against him. So I thought, “what is this guy doing to the article?”. Thinking he may have vandalized it, I reached out to you. I’ve been done with the article for awhile. After a recent update for their SXSW date, there’s nothing to add until they release their EP. SXSW music starts 3/15. WP is so crucial for bands. The date of the showcase was just announced last wk, which is why was concerned. Everyone here is a so crazed now researching bands to see & trading tips. WP is so important because as you know, that’s how everyone does this. Yesterday alone they had 171 views which is almost triple their prev high. I don’t know if you’ve ever been - the whole thing is so overwhelming. I volunteer & get a free badge, so I’m heavy into looking at the 2,200 bands playing a showcase, which is 105 official venues. This is my 3rd yr & past 2 yrs I’ve seen 45-50 bands over the 5 nites. When I get the exact full sched I start working on a rough plan of attack. The showcases don’t start till 7-8 so there’s a lot to do during the day. There is also so much non-showcase venues playing music, I rely on my friends to tell me what’s going on. Finally, I spent a long time on mon, going thru each of changes to The Nightowls, I understood what he was doing & why (although I disagree with just a few). It all made sense and the article looks really great now. Looking back, it was really cluttered with lots of unnecessary info that was distracting. Now it's very clean, straightforward & easy to get all the key info about them. I learned a lot from him doing this for when I create future band articles, such as less is more in wording, let the citations speak for themselves, make sure they’re noteworthy etc. Do you know of any bands playing SXSW that I should see? You have to work min of 48 hrs to get a music badge. The past 2 yrs, I’ve worked the film fest & completed my hrs before Music. This yr they said we’d have to work some hrs during music – which is unacceptable, so I’m doing what is called “Tech Conference”. Working in pairs, we get assigned to a room holding the panels & presentations. We have to make sure their PC or laptops are hooked up for presentations, setup all the mikes for them, get the sound levels, etc. Then we get to stay & watch the panel. I don’t know this techy stuff at all. We went for an orientation & they showed us the setups. It seems a little complicated but this is new to most of us 200 people on the crew. There’s also what they tech people called “Ninjas” that you text & they come right away. Once I do 1, I think I’ll be fine. I’m working Tue – Thur at the SXSWedu, then Fri & Sat at the Interactive. Our scheduled shift times are 8 – 7, however most don’t start till 10/11 & last is 5, but we get credit for the 11 hrs. I’ll have all my hrs well before the music starts tue. We are probably committing WP:Original research by the kilobytes. ツ It reads so well and is very informative and interesting, but all it would take is one editor (like Drmies..shhhhh) with a red pen and most of it would not stand due to poor sourcing. A lot of print material is not online and some publications are defunct and out-of-print. My favourite album was Fun and Games also, and I am addicted to the song "Something To Say". I really love jangle pop because of the chiming guitars. My favourite band of the genre is Jason & the Scorchers. I have made more edits to that article, as well as the one for the singer Jason Ringenberg than any. The Nightowls is close, though. Drmies: that is hilarious. I can see now why you thought his edits were destructive. Actually, his talk page is one of the most popular on all of English Wikipedia, because it is so free-flowing and open and sometimes gets into hilarity, the profane and the most fun is poked there. He at the moment has 804 page watchers. (you and I have fewer than 30, which is the default) He is a professor at Auburn University in Alabama and recently was offering girl scout cookies on his page for his two daughters. The categories on his page are also meant to be ironic (inclusionist as well as deletionist, male, female). Having a redlinked category is a covert sign of rebellion (he and I are in one together "Wikipedians who are not a Wikipedian" (yes, that did involve a rebellion...) SXSW: you will be fine in the techy stuff. Working in a 'control room' can be exhilerating and you have help to come running if you are in trouble. It all sounds overwhelming; happy you are so involved. I hope you enjoy all the music. I looked at Jason Ringenberg & noticed several missing wiki links for Jason & The Scorchers, which I added. I went to add one for Jeff Johnson, but that has multiple links. I thought I knew how to add "musician" but apparently not. When I updated Austin Music Scene with links to Blondie & Joe Jackson, I noticed a dab_solver had run to fix them. I looked at how these were changed & tried the coding here, but didn't work. You might want to add it. I'm jealous that you play drums, I always wanted to play an instrument but alas never learned (and I certainly can't sing), but can only fantasize about being in a band, especially going on a tour. Yeah, it's always a matter of judgement, and I'm fairly sure the only folks who've never messed up something no matter how small on wikipedia are those who've never made more than a handful of edits. Best thing to keep in mind when it comes to vandalism is that, even though it feels like you're having to make snapshot decisions sometimes, that really only is the case in a very small portion of all vandalism or likely-vandalism edits, and of the stuff that should be reverted or reported on sight, the great majority of it is so blatant there is very little judgement needed. (And another bunch of the 'should be dealt with right NOW' stuff is stuff only admins can deal with anyway) Most of the time, nothing is going to break if a likely 'bad' edit is allowed to stand for a minute or two to verify whether the removed content actually belonged in an article in the first place/that changed name isn't actually the undoing of earlier vandalism/that swear-word inserted in a quote isn't actually in the source it's quoted from/that blanked article isn't actually the article's creator and sole editor trying to delete it, or if there's a minute or two between a revert and the warning template so you can type out a personal addendum or even, in the case where you suspect a misunderstanding may be playing a role, forgoing the template altogether to 'just' leave a personal message. Not saying you did anything wrong, mind—just something worth keeping in the back of your mind. And my own, or at least I try. (Though I'll probably have messed up somewhere at some point, because even with that extra minute or two it remains a matter of judgement, just not as much of a snapshot-judgement) I hope the same, though if not, or if you need/want help untangling the complex situation or some advice or whatever, or a second person to explain stuff to that editor, lemme know and I'll look into it to see what I can do—or, if nothing, see who I think might be able to help. My guess is it's there's a post trending on Facebook, Reddit, etc, that links to this article. I personally would not directly correlate page watchers to pageviews. The former often do not view the page unless a change has been made, and for more popular articles the bulk of traffic is not from the editors. Even though it seems the format as designated in a word category is limiting, you will probably find the others do not fit exactly either. But the infobox is a template and allowable parameters to use in any template are built into the template. You can't make up your own parameters to use with an existing template. So first when an editor places a made up parameter or it is not yet filled in on a page with the infobox, it ends up in this Category:Infobox musical artist with missing or invalid Background field. An administrator has nicely placed the directions on the category to help explain. If you look back at the history of the article in this diff where you edited; [8] down at the bottom of the article in the categories you can see the blue-linked category. Click through to see the list of articles and the instructions (which I have also added below) Click through here and scroll down for instructions for use: Template:Infobox_musical_artist. The directions for choosing a background are rather constrained but they are only these and one must be used. If you enter anything else (ie 'rapper' it will be an error). The background decides not only the category, but also the identifying background color for the infobox. Below you can see tthe entire six parameters, but I believe the 'solo_singer' designation is the correct choice. (she sings, no matter what else she does, so she is a 'solo_singer'.) Hope this helps. However, the draft was declined by User:SwisterTwister for being "Too suggestive of an advertised business profile for clients, notability cannot be inherited from others and the sources are largely consisting of simple announcements, local business journals, notices and similar." I posted a reply on the draft's talk page, and received a response in the form of an additional AfC comment that said the sources were "not significant weight-ful of notability, including because they include local business publications and similar". I'm not entirely sure what this means because I thought the sources used are considered major publications (for example, Forbes and The Press of Atlantic City). I'm hoping you or another editor can help by confirming notability. My goal remains to have the draft deemed accurate and neutral, and moved into the main space. In this case there is an insurmountable barrier. As I posted earlier on this talk page (maybe) I no longer have the WP:NPPR (the right to patrol newly created articles). I do on Simple English Wikipedia and I earned it there from the admins by creating good articles that were ready to go live without much or any oversite. There I am a trusted user and love the articles I have written. It also gives me the freedom to judge other new pages, tag for deletion (quick and discussion) patrol as approved, improve and amend ad lib. As you say the process here is so much a barrier I have never created an article here. Truly a paradox... I would love to help but I have no power to approve, or move your article draft. A number of us did so in the past unilaterally and I liked working through the new pages feed. It is a toss-up though whether an article stands a better chance in the AfC queue or just submitting it live into article space and hoping for a friendly editor (or one who watches your work) to patrol it and not delete. But we peanut gallery types lost the rights when they decided only qualified creators could patrol. I can help you with further 'requested edits' as I did before on already existing articles and happily. We worked well together and I never blinked at the quality of your sources. Have you requested help from WP:WPAFC/HD (Wikipedia Articles for Creation help desk)? I am fond of WikiProjects and you may receive more enlightenment there as to what needs to be done. It seems your draft is trapped in a prison named AfC and you and the reviewer are deadlocked. The idea is either that an editor improves the article to the needed specifications, accepts the decline, gives up and eventualy it becomes an abandoned draft submission. With two negative remarks from your reviewer I can't predict how much you are going to be able to override that negative standstill without a major rewrite with apparently new sources...Any editor you ask now to help rescue your draft, will so far as I understand, have to have the WP:NPPR right granted to assist you. My bold suggestion is write again the draft in your user space (just as you did for you desired reivisions to CTIA). Please forgive me, I did feel it was right to acknowledge my conflict. I wasn't sure how the process works. It was in good faith and I thought primarily that since it was simply some other roles she did it wasn't going to be a major issue, as with say something more personal. It was in no means to be flagrant, I was trying to be respectful and explain the situation. I do know that Wikipedia has stringent policies on things and I think she didn't understand that and that's why she wanted someone who didn't know her. You've been very helpful with edit requests in the past, and I was wondering if you might be willing to help with another project. I've published drafts for the Move (company) and Realtor.com articles here and here, on behalf of Move. There are edit requests on both article talk pages. One editor requested some changes for the Realtor.com draft, and I've addressed these concerns as far as I know, and they said they may not revisit the article or subsequent edit requests. Would you happen to be interested in reviewing either of these drafts? The drafts are not terribly long, so I'm hoping reviews won't take too much time. No problem if you're not interested or don't have time. I just thought I'd ask since the edit requests have been posted for some time now, and my attempts to get reviews at WikiProjects has not been successful. Thanks! WikiProjects are independent and self-willed or withering-on-the-vine and although I am a member of many I do not think I ever read the project pages themselves. We just seem to focus on article banners and related talk page concensus (maybe) and watchlists for vandalism...I will take a look at both and let you know / or comment further there. I just haven't been on, but I did take a look at both rather superficially. I got stuck in the infobox controversy in Realtor.com. I would add the infobox but without the disputed content (the website itself has the images and the screenshot is not commonly applied in any articles with which I cross paths; but I am not a company person...) or all the empty parameters with the hidden comments.They just add empty bytes to the page load. I have both articles and your drafts on my watchlist now, but please go ahead and message requests. After all this is your career. I do think the article with the negative comments will be a difficult one to fish. Perhaps if you did divide your requests into smaller chores, it might be better. The infobox "controversy" is not much of a controversy. An editor is simply concerned about the license justification at Wikimedia Commons, but I did not upload either image. I'm just using the image that already appears in the current Realtor.com article, so I'm not sure how me using this same file is problematic. I would be fine with you or someone else updating the infobox without the screenshot, if that's the concern. Also, I prefer to leave empty infobox parameters so people can easily fill them in later, but I went ahead and removed the empty parameters for now, per your suggestion. If you have any time to review and copy over any sections on either draft, I'd be happy to adjust the edit requests appropriately. I am always fine working section by section, but figured these drafts might be short enough for someone to review altogether. If you don't have time or interest, I understand.
