“Mr. Middle”

Hello, so that was not a joke edit. While Bryan Cranston does play a parodic fictionalised version of himself in the sixteenth season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, that character is exclusively referred to as “Mr. Middle”, because the foolish main characters only know him from Malcolm in the Middle, and as they have never heard of Breaking Bad, and similarly mistake Aaron Paul for Frankie Muniz and so exclusively refer to him as “Malcolm”. Their real names are never used, and while implicitly meant to be celebrities based on themselves, those characters are never named, nor is Breaking Bad ever mentioned. 113.30.191.65 (talk) 12:16, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Apologies fellow traveler! I checked and you are indeed correct. Although you might want to use a footnote to explain that nuance or I'm pretty sure people are going to assume what I did and think you're joking. Here's how you do that:
"Mr. Middle"/Himself{{efn|put your note here}}
All the way at the bottom, below the references section you'll put
==Notes==
{{Notelist}}
This will render as:
"Mr. Middle"/Himself[a]
(it doesnt work properly here but it will in the article)
Feel free to do that and consider the matter resolved although it would be best to just credit Cranston as "Walter White" and not "Walter "Walt" White / Heisenberg" for the sake of simplicity as it is just one character.— FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 12:46, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Garrett Geros

Hi FenrisAureus, thank you for patrolling recent changes. Regarding the article about Garrett Geros, please start a talk page discussion and wait for a consensus to form before restoring such material (cf. WP:BLPRESTORE, WP:ONUS).

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Trouted

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: YOUR REASON HERE Logical Intervention (talk) 02:34, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for reaching out. I believe that you have made a mistake in overwriting my edit. "At one time, there existed two dialects of the Inuttut language. The Inuit that reside south of the Davis Inlet in what is now known as Nunatuĸavut once spoke a divergent dialect known as "Nunatuĸavummiutut", indicated by differences in toponymy. [6] However, due to heavy European immigration into Nunatuĸavut, this dialect has since become extinct".[6]

Prior to 2010 NunatuKavut (Inuit) was the Labrador Metis Nation (a mix of First Nations Indians and Europeans. Two distinct groups. How can the NunatuKavut dialect of "Nunatuĸavummiutut" go extinct when NunatuKavut only came into being in 2010?

http://www.southernlabrador.ca/home/rich_heritage.htm "English is the language of Southern Labrador, but you'll be surprised when you hear it. It's not the English of Canadian television and radio, it's Newfoundland English, which has preserved many old words and turns of phrase, especially about the fishery, that the rest of the English speaking world has lost".

The people of southern Labrador speak "Newfoundland English", not Inuit. Furthermore, the communities on their 'communities page' http://www.southernlabrador.ca/home/communities.htm are the same communities that are now listed as NunatuKavut (Inuit) communities. https://nunatukavut.ca/about/our-communities/.

Information within Wikipedia should be an accurate and truthful account of historical events. I am working to correct the misrepresentation herein.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Logical Intervention (talkcontribs)

Apologies fellow traveller, I am not very well versed in this subject and am having a hard time following your argument. Could you please put this more simply?— FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 02:42, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Check out the obvious inconsistency.
NunatuKavut claims to be a separate, distinct group - with a divergent language that went extinct - from the Inuit of Nunatsiavut in Northern Labrador.
Yet, when you go to the NunatuKavut home page of Wikipedia, if you click on the "NunatuKavummiutut" language link you are redirected to the Inuttitut page which is the language of the people of Nunatsiavut in Northern Labrador.
Furthermore, they list their country as "Inuit Nunangat", which is the territory of the Nunatsiavut people. Inuit Nunangat publicly denounced NunatuKavut in stating that they don't recognize NunatuKavut as an Inuit territory. Logical Intervention (talk) 03:20, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
I'm tired and this is still not making sense to me, but you seem to know what your talking about, so I'm just gonna take your word for this. Go ahead and make the changes. I won't interfere. — FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 03:26, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you Kindly. Logical Intervention (talk) 03:51, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
I apologize. The NunatuKavut people changed their identities from Metis (mixed) to a distinctive full blood (Inuit). Metis are a mix, Inuit are not.
Timeline
1985 - Labrador Metis Association.
1998 - Labrador Metis Nation.
1998 - 2010 Labrador Inuit/Metis.
2010 - NunatuKvut Inuit.
Because they have changed their identities, you will find inconsistencies in their researchers information. They are not a distinct group of Inuit, in fact, they are not Inuit at all. Six NunatuKavut communities doesn't have one Inuk living in any of them. They claim to represent 6,000 Inuit from southern and central Labrador, yet it's only 6,000 when you combine the Metis and Inuit totals in those areas. They are reporting misinformation. All information regarding NunatuKavut needs to be reevaluated and corrected. Logical Intervention (talk) 03:50, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
When, correcting this information, you should note the inconsistencies in reported population count to reflect this nuance. — FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 03:56, 8 August 2023 (UTC)

Invitation to Cornell study on Wikipedia discussions

Hello FenrisAureus,

I’m reaching out as part of a Cornell University academic study investigating the potential for user-facing tools to help improve discussion quality within Wikipedia discussion spaces (such as talk pages, noticeboards, etc.). We wanted to invite you to join the study because we believe such user-facing tools could potentially be useful to you in your work as an administrator, where you occasionally have to interact with editors who are wondering why you reverted or blocked them (alternatively, it could be that these tools end up not being useful for this at all, in which case we would still want to know!).

The study centers around a prototype tool, ConvoWizard, which is designed to warn Wikipedia editors when a discussion they are replying to is getting tense and at risk of derailing into personal attacks or incivility. More information about ConvoWizard and the study can be found at our research project page on meta-wiki.

If this sounds like it might be interesting to you, you can use this link to sign up and install ConvoWizard. Of course, if you are not interested, feel free to ignore this message.

If you have any questions or thoughts about the study, our team is happy to discuss! You may direct such comments to me or to my collaborator, Cristian_at_CornellNLP. Thank you for your consideration.

Of course, if you're not interested you can feel free to ignore this. Have a nice day! Jonathan at CornellNLP (talk) 15:45, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, I will absolutely sign up! this seems like a valuable and novel contribution to the project I just did not want to misrepresent my self as an admin by signing up as such behavior is expressly forbidden by WP:TALKNO. — FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 16:01, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

FYI

I've brought the matter of the Penrose reversion up at the Physics WikiProject. I stand by the original edit, that the citation is of the poorest sort, unsuited to use to support the sentence to which it is appended, and arguing there for requiring its removal/replacement with a reliable scientific/biographical source that is not using Penrose's name in a self-serving fashion. Good article reviews

Hi FenrisAureus, I just came across your GA review for Cisnormativity. Good Article reviews should inform the nominator and others looking back at the article history as to how the article in question meets the GACR at the time of the review. The GAN page here does not make that very obvious. It appears to be mostly just a copy of the GACR, and I can't tell what considerations were made towards broadness, which sources were checked for plagiarism, and similar. Would you be able to expand upon your thoughts as to how the article meets each of the GACR? Best, CMD (talk) 08:13, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Apologies fellow traveller, this has come at an inopportune time. I will be away for several days as I will be on holiday, but rest assured I will get back to you. — FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 06:20, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
I have added more info on 2a,2b,2c,2d but for most of the others, an article either meets the criteria or it doesn't. How I (and others as I understand) deal with those is by either passing the criteria or explaining why it fails, and giving suggestions for remediation. Is there something I am missing? — FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 02:14, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the changes. The source check is specifically required, but overall checklist reviews are not regarded as sufficient. Ideally there should be an explanation for why a criteria is passed, similar to there being an explanation for why it fails. Any other thoughts help others looking later to understand the review, and adds specific positive feedback to the nominator. CMD (talk) 02:41, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, will keep this in mind for future reviews. — FenrisAureus (she/they) (talk) 04:48, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I

Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:

  • Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
  • Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
  • Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
  • Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
  • Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
  • Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
  • Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
  • Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
  • Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
  • Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
  • Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
  • Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
  • Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
  • Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
  • Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
  • Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
  • Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.

To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:
