Sorry for doing 'vandalism'?? I've only being trying to expand certain articles. Anyway, I won't move anymore articles.. ProcEnforce (talk) 20:03, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Glad to hear that you understood the message. Sorry if it sounded a bit harsh, but what you did was really quite damaging, and when you did the exact same thing after my first note, I had to raise my voice. Regarding the two schools with the same name, there may be good reason to treat them equally and not let one "monopolize" the name, but it has to be done properly. I'll look into it tomorrow, as it's getting a bit late in my timezone. Favonian (talk) 20:07, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

I have just had the great pleasure of finding your RfA. I am 100% sure you will make a good admin, and I look forward to welcoming you to the fold. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:21, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your very emphatic support! Not the first time you have been of help when I needed it. Regarding the "soft on vandals" issue (nobody actually used that term, but a bit of poetic license must be allowed), you are right in your assessment. I am very conscious of not behaving like "the new sheriff in town", but when the discussion about the proper escalation process for warnings comes around, I will certainly participate. Germany

You beat me to correcting it. I for some reason pressed accept rather than undo. I think the IP was refering to 6 million dead in the holocaust rather than the total of 40 million. Bevo74 (talk) 19:34, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

I think you are right, so I didn't reprimand the IP. Easy to be baffled by those staggering numbers. Favonian (talk) 19:36, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
According to Hannah Arendt, the Danes weren't baffled by anything at all and had more spine than my countrymen did--but that's neither here nor there. Hey, I read in Time about Noma--have you ever been? And, more importantly, will you take me there if I'm ever passing through? Drmies (talk) 16:33, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Eh, ahem, how much is DK 1095? Will they accept one of my children as payment? Drmies (talk) 16:36, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Most of our heroic contributions to WW2 have been debunked by now, but surprisingly (and gratifyingly) the rescue of the Jews has withstood these tendencies. Due credit should be given to the Nazis for leaking the information about the roundup in the first place and, according to some sources,[who?] they were less than diligent about implementing it.
Noma, ah yes, I wish I had been there, but no such luck. I could of course use as an excuse that it's damn nigh impossible to make reservations there. When everyone was moaning about Eyjafjallajökull and its impact on Civilization as We Know It, the one piece of upbeat news was that it was temporarily possible to get at table at Noma. To my eternal disgrace I didn't seize the opportunity. The fact that DKK 1095 is about EUR 146 (USD 190, if there are any American talk page stalkers lurking in the grass) could have something to do with it—and that's without wine, by the way! Would very much like to sample the delicacies of the Nordic cuisine in your company, but I would have to insist on going Dutch. Sorry, I just couldn't resist the temptation! Human children are not accepted as payment at this restaurant, as they tend to subside on a rather disgusting diet and Noma's chef is fastidious about his raw materials. The article failed to demonstrate that the band is notable. The guidelines for what constitutes notability on Wikipedia are listed at WP:BAND. Only the band's own website and Facebook page were given as references and, being self-published, they are not considered reliable sources. Favonian (talk) 20:39, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Dispute of deletion of Wes Prodigy

Dear Favonian,

I would ask you to reconsider the speedy deletion of Wes Prodigy because it met point no. 4 of the 'Others' section of your inclusion guidelines for musicians. that states: Has composed a number of melodies, tunes or standards used in a notable genre, or tradition or school within a notable genre. Wes Prodigy has written a big number of raps and composed melodies for his raps and that should qualify him for notability in Wikipedia. The guidelines state that: A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, DJ, musical theatre group, etc.) may be notable if it meets at least one of the following criteria. Please note the word one.

I do not and I do not continue to see any reason whatsoever for you to have deleted the page.

Retro 2010 (talk) 20:20, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

The "Others" section is for "composers and performers outside mass media traditions". This Prodigy is a hip hop artist—very definitely inside the mass media traditions, so he will just have to meet the requirements of WP:MUSICBIO. There is no evidence that he does, so I deleted the article and stand by that decision. Favonian (talk) 20:24, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
He meets point no. 1.4 of WP:MUSICBIO, he has been covered in his school's media for performing in an inter-house drama show. Retro 2010 (talk) 20:30, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Please read the criteria one more time. In the one you quote it says "Articles in a school or university newspaper (or similar) would generally be considered trivial but should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis". There is nothing in the present case to indicate non-trivial coverage. Favonian (talk) 20:34, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
By the way, what I understood by "outside mass media traditions" was an artist who hasn't been recognized by mass media. Please try to re-phrase your guidelines for better comprehension. Retro 2010 (talk) 20:38, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
That would make it rather too easy to get it in: if there's significant coverage, you're in; if not, you are in by virtue of clause 4. No such luck. Favonian (talk) 20:42, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
I should be in by virtue of clause 4 because Wes Prodigy is an upcoming hip hop artist. He is, therefore, outside mass media traditions. Retro 2010 (talk) 20:51, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
His field is inside mass media tradition, and that's what counts. Regarding the upcoming bit, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. People and other subjects get in if they are already notable, not in anticipation of becoming it. Favonian (talk) 20:54, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
His breakthrough to the industry is almost certain regarding the fact that he has received recognition from a few notable personalities in his area. Like it says in 'Wikipedia is not a crystal ball': Individual scheduled or expected future events should only be included if the event is notable and almost certain to take place. Retro 2010 (talk) 21:04, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
That "almost certain" is your assessment. Come back if and when he makes it. Favonian (talk) 21:07, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
He's partly made it. He is known to majority of people in Westlands in Nairobi and minority of people in other parts of the city/province. Retro 2010 (talk) 21:27, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
We've all partly made it. This discussion is going nowhere. In my opinion, Prodigy is not notable. You can try deletion review, but I rather doubt that they will arrive at a different decision. Good night! Favonian (talk) 21:36, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Concrete statement

Can I ask you to reconsider the speedy deletion of electrical resistivity measurement of concrete? I would argue that this is not a valid G7 because the blanking of the page appears not to be a good faith (as required by G7) request for deletion, but rather irritation at not being allowed to insert links to the editors favourite products in the article [1][2]. I would also argue that my edit [3] to the article, although little more than copyediting, prevent it being considered written by a single author (also required by G7). SpinningSpark 20:55, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Interesting problem. I've had a somewhat similar situation with Aluminium borohydride, which the original author blanked because he didn't get his way with respect to the spelling of aluminum/aluminium! It was brought back from the dead with the argument that it constituted valid content and therefore shouldn't be deleted based on a bureaucratic rule. Looks to me like the same applies here, so I will undelete the article on one condition: that you re-introduce the links to the article which I laboriously removed prior to deletion.   Favonian (talk) 21:07, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
That's easier said than done being as I have no way of knowing what articles linked there at the time. I have checked all the links introduced by user:777niceweather777 and they are all still in place, none of them were ever removed by you. Were there any others? SpinningSpark 00:13, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Fair point. In fact, I'm an idiot! I was thinking of Roll hardness tester, another creation of the same author, likewise deleted after blanking. To complicate matters, that one was involved in Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2010 July 27#Roll Hardness Tester, so there was quite bit of unlinking to do. Never mind that—you can now proceed with your work, and I can go to bed. Favonian (talk) 00:23, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Please would you reinstate Roll hardness tester. Kittybrewster 10:00, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
It's back. I'll atone for past sins by trying to resurrect the links pointing to the article. Favonian (talk) 10:07, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Your thoughts..

Hi Favonian,

I am new to Wikipedia so therefore would appreciate your guidance. My recent article on TotallySporty.com is in my view completely objective, factual and informative. It simply provides information on what the website does and enables interested individuals to find out about what sports are available in London. Therefore I do not understand why you have deleted it.

Please could you let me know what would be acceptable and what wording I need to use so this article can be published.

Thanks in advance,

Petherd (talk) 10:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Petherd

Hi Petherd. The article was originally nominated by another editor for speedy deletion as blatant advertisement, and the initial version certainly was just that. I'll admin that you managed to tone down the marketing language, though a phrase like "TotallySporty enables you to find recreational sport partners" still has the wrong tone for an encyclopedia article. The reason why I deleted the article was, as you can see from the deletion log, that it failed to demonstrate that the website in question is notable. The relevant guidelines for notability are WP:WEB, specifically for websites, and WP:GNG for more general criteria. It pretty much all boils down to providing reliable, independent sources attesting to the notability. Favonian (talk) 12:56, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

That'll teach you! I'm pretty sure that the reason why this bit of eloquence was added to your user page is that you upon occasion have left complimentary messages on my talk page. Hi Favonian

I am new to Wikipedia and I intend to learn about the site but first I have a specific question.

A page has recently had the following message attatched:-

This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference.

15:29, 4 August 2010 Favonian (talk | contribs) deleted "Tanya Vital" ‎ (G5: Creation by a blocked or banned user in violation of block or ban: sock of Daveygp)

I do not know who created the page or who may be responsible for any updating of the information but the person named is my daughter and the message has worried me can you explain what this is about

Regards TunyardTunyard (talk) 16:58, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

What a fascinating coincidence that you pop by just a couple of days after said article was created. Well, the article in question was created August 3. It was very short, and in particular contained no references to reliable sources—something Wikipedia's guidelines insist on, especially for articles about living persons. This alone would have led to the article being deleted, but the author's other actions demonstrated that it was in fact a person, who had previously been blocked from editing, and that caused the article to be speedily deleted. Favonian (talk) 17:16, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Well as you say facinating as I am quite sure I have seen a page here for my daughter many times and much before the date you quote. Tanya is an actor and I watch the media and information available on the internet out of interest. She is well known and has appeared in a UK Soap called Emmerdale for two years and has done countless other work. She is a member of Equity has an Agent and recently a Publicist there is plenty of evidence of this on the Internet and other Wikipedia pages. I have also heard from someone that this deletion could affect future pages with the same title as this is her name what is the rule. Are you sure of your information on who created this page was it the same person who tried to edit if not then perhaps it was an act of vandalism. Im very interested to know why would I have seen a page with this title before the date you quote because and I dont want people to view this page with this information on it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tunyard (talkcontribs) 17:43, 6 August 2010 (UTC) Sorry im new I forgot to sign

I was waiting for a reply but you must be busy elsewhere I will log back on later I believe you are wrong about the date of this pages creation. Maybe someone did try to edit it on the 3rd of August but the page has definitly been here much longer. I also re-read your reply above and if Im not mistaken you sound as if your suspicious of me well I can assure you I am genuine and not related in any way to the persons who created or tried to edit that page I am a mother who looks out for her daughter and who does not like this information being seen as it could be missinterpreted by viewers.

I've blocked Wallett as it's clearly the same user and logged a request for a checkuser to peer deeper. In a perverse way I like the above message - all caps, the well considered Nazi perjorative....he forgot to accuse you of being gay, communist and a poor cook though; I do wish those lashing back at administrators would take more time to be creative - Peripitus (Talk) 12:16, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Amen to that! I might be able to give them a lesson in abusive creativity, but some of the ANI stalwarts might not appreciate it. Favonian (talk) 12:27, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Tanya Vital

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Tunyard (talk • contribs) 17:43, 6 August 2010 (UTC) Sorry im new I forgot to sign

Regards TunyardTunyard (talk) 17:47, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

I was waiting for a reply but you must be busy elsewhere I will log back on later I believe you are wrong about the date of this pages creation. Maybe someone did try to edit it on the 3rd of August but the page has definitly been here much longer. I also re-read your reply above and if Im not mistaken you sound as if your suspicious of me well I can assure you I am genuine and not related in any way to the persons who created or tried to edit that page I am a mother who looks out for her daughter and who does not like this information being seen as it could be missinterpreted by viewers.Tunyard (talk) 17:17, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

I have re-entered my questions as some remain unanswered but I note the page cannot now be viewed. Regards TunyardTunyard (talk) 17:17, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

FYI: any admin can view the deleted content, and the page shows it was created at 23:59, 2 August 2010, there is no question on the date. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 17:27, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
I can only re-confirm what Barek wrote. There has only been one, short-lived article of that name. If you wish to create a new article about her, you must make sure that you document notability according to WP:ENTERTAINER by supplying reliable sources. Equity, Agent and Publicist aren't really interesting from our point of view. Furthermore, as the mother of the person in question, you should me mindful of Wikipedia's guidelines regarding conflict of interest. Favonian (talk) 19:09, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi

thankyou for your reply It could be that I was remembering other pages where Tanya is included and not the one in discussion. I have been looking through your guidance pages which seem complicated and I did see the conflict of interest data. I am not a very experienced computer user, so I dont think I will be attempting to create a page on Tanya in the near future but I have now created an account so I think I will continue to use it. Regards Tunyard (talk) 22:49, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Nick Gindre

Thanks for your message. He hasn't played in a fully-pro league (AFC Wimbledon were playing in the Conference North at the time, which is a semi-pro league) so I'll PROD it. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 18:01, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

I yield to your expertise   On the other hand, an editor has declined the PROD based on Gindre's current club being professional, and if I look at Google News search results, it does look like he has managed to generate sufficient media coverage to scrape by. Unblock of User:Alessandr79

Hiyas Favonian, just a courtesy notice to tell you that i unblocked the above user par an unblock request on the unblock-en-l mailing list. I know that the user if on a rather bad start due to sockpuppeting, edit warring and spamming, but i decided to WP:AGF and give them a final chance. (Or perhaps WP:ROPE is more appropriate)

I thoroughly explained the respective rules to them, so the used should be well aware of the respective policies. I equally stated three conditions for the unblock, which the user agreed to. The conditions are:

  1. No more sockpuppets for any reason.
  2. No more edit warrning whatsoever - reverts and edits must be discussed with the other user, either trough the article or the other users talk page.
  3. No more edits related to www.elleradio.it in a fairly broad sense of the word. This was a precaution in order to ensure that the editor wasn't merely spamming a link - if that was the intention an unblock would be futile for them. I know this is close to an editing restriction which may only be opposed trough arbcom or the community, but in this case i would argue that it is close enough to the advertising / spam policy for me to issue.

I equally warned the user that this was somewhat of a last chance unblock. Part of me hopes that the intentions are genuinely positive, but in case this proves to be incorrect i would say that they can easily be re-blocked. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 18:47, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for informing me. I have no problem with the unblocking subject to the restrictions listed. I shall apply liberal doses of AGF to my cynicism and see what happens. Favonian (talk) 18:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Block of 82.45.192.123

You beat me to blocking 82.45.192.123 by about half a minute. I see you blocked for one week, which is reasonably in keeping with accepted practice, following earlier blocks of 24 hours and 48 hours. However, there has been disruptive editing from this IP over the last six months, and the nature of the edits and the selection of articles vandalised makes it abundantly clear that this is all one user. I am therefore inclined towards jumping straight to a rather longer block. Any opinion? JamesBWatson (talk) 10:53, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

I see that while I was writing that you were commenting on my talk page about this. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:55, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict) I'm all for that. As you say, it's clearly the same person with a misguided passion for disrupting Doctor Who articles. Hope it didn't look like I was "butting in", but I saw that you had signed out of Huggle, so I thought you might not see the note. Favonian (talk) 10:58, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't mind you "butting in" at all. I feel free to do so at times. I am interested to learn how you could tell I had signed out of Huggle: I didn't know you could do that. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:06, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Egham Hollowegians RFC

Why have you deleted my article - do you know anything about Rugby, the UK or indeed having a life outside? This was a legitimate article alerting the area to the precence of a community rugby club...how you (with your vast expertise in the area) have deemed it suitable for deletion is beyond me. How else are we supposed to place an article about the club. Wiki it turns out is a dictatorship without recourse. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noelski (talkcontribs) 12:26, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

The article failed to demonstrate that the club is notable according to Wikipedia's guidelines. Furthermore, the tone was in some places too much like an advertisement, for instance "Simply go along to the club on a training night or contact the club directly via their website", but that issue could probably have been fixed. I think they are looking to have the article userfied so they can try to establish notability. Mo ainm~Talk 11:30, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks reasonable. It's now located at User:Samael33/Skirmantas Kairys. Another editor had replied to the hang-on message. The message was to study the WP:BIO notability guideline, which this article draft currently doesn't meet. Favonian (talk) 11:38, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

I didn't actually delete, just nominated it, witness this log. The previous version was spammier than this one and a copyvio to boot. Though I tend to concur with the present nomination, I won't delete it to forestall any complaints at deletion review. If the speedy is declined, the article should go to AfD. Favonian (talk) 17:45, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Enda Kenny, Benjie Bollox and Charlie Harper

Sorry about that. It's just that I am new to all of this.

My sister's friend's boyfriend went to Charlie's birthday party and saw Benjie there. He says that he heard someone say in the bar afterwards that Enda is Benjie's cousin or something and that he heard Enda singing with Charlie earlier in the evening.

I would say that it is probably true.

Mick Vic (talk) 18:01, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Not good enough. You have to provide reliable sources for any claims you add to an article, especially when it's a biography of a living person. Favonian (talk) 18:04, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough. I will try to find someone else who was there to confirm, although I think that most of them were a bit drunk. I will read the Wikipedia guidelines also. They seem very clever. Finally, I will send emails to Enda, Charlie and Benjie this evening.

Thank you again for your patience and help.

Regards,

Mick Vic (talk) 18:13, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Unresolving something you'd resolved...

I has done it. No objections if you want to re-resolve (I won't re-un-resolve... mostly because I'm now just making up words for comedy value...)

I felt it worth (a) blocking, (b) advising ANI I had blocked, and (c) not doing it in a resolved thread to escape detection ;-) TFOWR 11:03, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Concur-un-resolve. This editor is in a tailspin, so a temporary block is the right way of checking if they want a second+ chance. Favonian (talk) 11:06, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Dutch Gambit deletion

Why did you remove the article referring to the Dutch Gambit? This is well established term among frequent drivers particularly on German highways. This term is not used for any other article / activity. The only misinterpretation could be in chess where the DANISH gambit is often mistaken and called Dutch Gambit. Any other reasons for deletion are not known so far —Preceding unsigned comment added by JBE7 (talkcontribs) 11:47, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

I made my mide up basically after I was blocked last time, I almost left but didn't and came back for week and now I am being treated like a person who came out of jail.
