Wikipedia Extra Credit Week 4 Assignment - mzk224

Hello Professor, I added two sentences with a reference under section "Measuring Child Poverty" in page "Child poverty" that states the difference that occur when it comes to measuring child poverty as there are different methodologies to gauge it - Mzk224 (talk) 22:40, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

I think this is a duplicate of the section above, so will comment only on this one. The grammar is a little awkward in the edit you made. Please re-edit it for clarity and ping me here again and I will mark it complete Mzk224. --- FULBERT (talk) 16:16, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi professor, I edit two articles: Education inequality in China; Left-behind children in China. I did some minor change to the articles. The first one I add a sentence to clarify Chinese household registration policy, and I deleted a sentence in the second article and revised it, so that it will be more accurately. Thank you. Wikipedia Extra Credit Week 6 Assignment (4/29-5/3)- Aaronqjm

Hi professor, I edited two articles according to my interests. The first one is Rural society in China. I add a sentence to clarify Deng Xiaoping's policy in 1978 to let audiences understand what change he made for that period of time. The second article is Manchester United F.C., which is my favorite soccer team. I add a sentence to illustrate Sir Alex Ferguson's achievement at the beginning of the section to let audiences have a first image of him. Aaronqjm (talk) 06:38, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

One of your edits was reverted as a good faith edit that was nonetheless problematic, but ok overall Aaronqjm. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:48, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit Bonus Point - Aaronqjm

Extra Credit - 1. I think the overall experience with this Wikipedia course is awesome. When I read information on Wikipedia before, I did find some errors. I would like to correct and improve it, so that it can benefit other audiences. After this course, I own the ability to achieve this task. 2. I learn how to post on talk page, and I learn how to edit a Wikipedia article, include adding sentence, minor change, and citation. Most importantly, I learn that we need to post everything with evidences. 3. I will definitely keep doing this in the future, because that's what I would like to do in the past. Thankfully, I learned it in this course, and I will apply it in the future. Aaronqjm (talk) 06:41, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Aaronqjm for the feedback and suggestions. The best for it moving forward! --- FULBERT (talk) 15:50, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit - Bonus Point - Assignment (4/29-5/3)

Hi professor,FULBERT, it's pretty nice to attending your class and get opportunity to experience Wikipedia.

1. What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment. Overall, the experience of doing Wikipedia Extra Credit assignments are interesting and beneficial. Starting form the first week assignment, by knowing nothing about how to create my own account on Wikipedia to smoothly contribute additional references on Wikipedia articles, this is totally a learning experience of building researching and editing skills from the ground. The tanning sessions for each week are quit interesting as well. By accomplishing each training sessions, I felt new knowledge acquired, and I knew more about the Wikipedia foundation and its contribution.

2. What you learned. Like I said above, this is a learning process starting from zero. By experiencing this course, I enhanced my writing skills for sure. Additionally, I learnt wiki code to editing on Wikipedia, most importantly,I conduct skill sets of how to cite and contribute on the articles. Also, these are not only about just cite references and add one or two sentences. I got to know that: where I need to put reference, what kind of references I can use, what kind I can't use, the quality of references and quality of editing as well. In total, the wiki experience was good, not only enhanced my writing skills, but also improved my researching skills.

3. Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia. Honestly, I would love to continue to contribute on Wikipedia articles which topics that I am interested in. Since Wikipedia is a public platform to provide knowledge base to all people who have internet access, it is very interesting to see different contribution, thoughts, inspirations and opinions to the topics that attracts me. By providing my own knowledge and perspectives, I would get access to critics and learning from other contributors. So why not continue learning?

Eliowwwwwwth (talk) 16:52, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback on this Eliowwwwwwth. I hope you keep at it! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:04, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit Bonus Point -Jtong95

The overall extra credit assignment on Wikipedia was well organized and systematic. All the instructions were made step-by-step, which is a part I like most.

This Wikipedia course assignment brings about following learning outcomes for me.

1. Reading articles on Wikipedia can bring me a general framework of a topic. This is particularly helpful when I enter a new area and have no idea to develop my own research plan.

2. Editing existing contents contributed by others is a good academic training for me to gain a critical aspect when understanding other opinions. Also I can get fresh points of view when others correct and make comments on my editing. This interactive and open platform is good for communicating and sharing knowledge.

3. Adding new materials into Wikipedia articles is a good way to make continuous research and sharing opinions on specific topic. It acts as a self-assessment to check what I have known or not known in particular area.

I do not think I will frequently edit articles on Wikipedia because I am usually fresh to the topics when I visit Wikipedia. It means that in most of the time, I only search Wikipedia for new topics that I can not make any editing. When I become familiar with this topic, I will probably not read the articles on this platform any more. At this time I may try to read in-depth academic journals instead of the general Wikipedia introduction.Jtong95 (talk) 19:20, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback and final thoughts on this Jtong95. You are always welcome to contribute evidence based on what you find via academic journal articles here to strengthen the content! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:06, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit Bonus Point - tl2495

Posting on wikipedia makes me view the responsibility of posting correct and useful information online. It is also important to add to the body of existing knowledge. I also learnt that Wikipedia could be a starting point, but it should not be an important source to cite. I would continue editing on Wikipedia if I continuously reading academic journals and articles. Tl2495 (talk) 22:51, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the final thoughts and suggestions on your experiences Tl2495. I hope you keep with it! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:10, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit Week 6 Assignment (4/29-5/3)- Ywqz228

Dear professor, I have added one picture of the Riverside of the Roosevelt Island Roosevelt Island. I took this picture September last year. Thank you. FULBERT Ywqz228 (talk)Ywqz228 20:27, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit Bonus Point -Ywqz228

Hi professor, I am so proud that I could take this class to learn how to edit articles on Wikipedia. I used to think only some scholars have authority to edit articles on Wikipedia and surprised that I could be the one to change or put more reliable resources on Wikipedia articles. I like the training part of each week assignment, just like the guidebook to show how to better and correct use Wikipedia editing. For the previous assignment, I have learned that edit on Wikipedia could be undo. Once I have added one sentence on Wikipedia, and later I received an email showed that my edition was "undo" by someone else with the reason "the information is redundant". Then I realized the information I added was little bit similar to the previous words, then I change my edition. For the assignment 6, I have learned that copyright is significant on Wikipedia and only the picture I took by myself or any picture with permission could put on Wikipedia. I once tried to upload a picture drawing by myself, but it failed to upload and said "Wikipedia could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons", then I uploaded a picture took by myself, it worked. I will continue editing on Wikipedia since I have found some references on my research article: autonomous vehicle have been out of date and could not link to the related topic page. Then I think other articles might also have the same issue. Since everyone could edit on Wikipedia, then Wikipedia is lack of trust in information. Also, not all reference on Wikipedia is peer reviewed then some viewpoints might be biased and the viewpoint should be changed to neutral. Thank you. FULBERTYwqz228 (talk)Ywqz228 21:03, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

You raised a lot of useful points here Ywqz228; all the more reason Wikipedia could benefit from your contributions! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:25, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit ** BONUS ** -Yu Liu

Hi Professor,

This Wikipedia course really gives me a whole new experience of contributing and sharing. I never thought that one day I could be an editor of Wikipedia instead of a user(Ctrl + c & Ctrl v). At first I thought this would be very hard for me to add something to an existing body of knowledge but after reading so many peer reviewed articles and journals, it suddenly becomes easier than I thought.

By doing the Wikipedia course assignment, I learned that all the contributions must be reliable and verifiable which means citations and I need to read through all the information in one article before adding anything which means do not rush to do anything unless I prepared!

The reason why I intend to continue editing on Wikipedia is that I enjoy the process of sharing knowledge and editing definitely help me have a deep understanding of what I researched. I have to master what I want to edit before actual editing it.

Thanks!Yl1665 (talk) 12:45, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Great, and all the best at continued contributions; hoping your positive impact will help others along the way Yl1665!! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:30, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit Week 6 Assignment - mzk224

Hello Professor,

I added few sentences with reference under "feudalism" section in article "Poverty in Pakistan" that describes how acquiring and holding land in rural Pakistan is one reason for poverty.

I also added few sentences with a reference in section "Reduction in poverty" in main article "Poverty in India" that states how new debate is forming in India where GDP matters less and overall development matters more. - Mzk224 (talk) 18:06, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Useful edits Mzk224! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:33, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit ** BONUS ** - mzk224

Hello Professor,

I absolutely enjoyed working on Wikipedia. I used to blog on Google Blogger once regarding different topics and as soon as I started working on Wikipedia articles, a lot of memories came rushing back. I think I will definitely continue working on Wikipedia after this course because I would be able to share what I know regarding different topics. In fact, I searched few articles on Wikipedia related to sports and have found information that is outdated so I will be looking to work on that.

All in all, the extra credit work on Wikipedia gave me a new perspective in terms of sharing and contributing what I know. Initially I felt this would be hard work to do but as soon as I started working on the extra credit, I realized how important all of it really is. I truly appreciate being given the opportunity to work and edit articles here. Another important point I learned is how important it is for us to have sources that are verifiable and extremely reliable. - Mzk224 (talk) 18:14, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the thoughts on this, and I hope you will be able to continue passing this free knowledge forward Mzk224! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:34, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit ** BONUS ** - Yeexyc

Hi professor FULBERT, It has been an interesting experience with working on Wikipedia. In the past, every professor would always mention that Wikipedia is always a good place to start researching about your topic, but only use Wikipedia as a reference because the sources are not reliable since anyone can log into the account and be able to edit it. However, after doing some editing work myself and by doing a lot of research prior posting anything on Wikipedia, I realize Wikipedia is not that unreliable. In the meanwhile, while I am doing any editing on the articles, I always felt I am committed for what I added on the articles, which make myself become more careful about researching information since some people would be rely on the information that are found on Wikipedia. In the future, I believe when I want to research anything on Wikipedia, I will have a different mindset and won't be too biased about it. Another thing I learned is how and where to find more reliable sources. Overall, thank you for providing us with such a useful experience. Yeexyc (talk) 19:27, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback, and I hope you will be able to continue with this Yeexyc! --- FULBERT (talk) 16:35, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit ** BONUS ** -Anna Lu

FULBERT Hi, I am glad about the extra credit assignment. It helps my grade but the most important is that I have been training for this assignment. I know well with process and edit skill in Wikipedia. Also, I learned that the Wikipedia data is not a perfect definition. Because anyone can change and edit without audit. Because of this, I try to more careful with Wikipedia information. I don't want to continue editing on Wikipedia. The reason is that even I edit the page in a professional standard, there still can be changed easily. The reader might find the wrong information on Wikipedia.AnnnnnaLu (talk) 20:44, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the thoughts and feedback on this. You raise a valuable point, and given that people may find incorrect information, it is more important than ever that people who do know abut the subject continue to make edits with reliable and credible information AnnnnnaLu. --- FULBERT (talk) 20:22, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Extra Credit Bonus Assignment - Mas1799

What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment.

I was using Wikipedia for years. After this course's extra credit i can spend free time to make wikipedia better, so future generations can learn, but not only use it to lookup something.

What you learned.

I learned the manner of making valuable edits, reviewing other people's contribution to the growing community of Wikipedia.

Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia.

I will be honest. I will continue making Wikipedia better only if i lookup something on it, after learning something i will spend some time reviewing the article to find different types of mistakes. Mas1799 (talk) 00:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback on this, and the best for your next steps Mas1799! --- FULBERT (talk) 20:23, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi professor FULBERT, I really like this assignment working on the Wikipedia, because it not only give us a chance to know more how the Wikipedia work, but also help me a lot on my research paper. It is the first time I learn that the Wikipedia is contributed by many peoples, which is a good way for everyone to share data and information. I believe that I will continue doing this work in the future, because it is an amazing place for exchanging knowledge, and also provide a practice chance to improve the summary skills.--Dy1001 (talk) 03:44, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi FULBERT, I'm helping out at The Signpost this month. I noticed you contributed to Recent research and left a note that some graphics were needed to be copied over. Is this from a source with a compatible license, i.e. CC-BY or public domain? ☆ Bri (talk) 21:48, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Bri. I was referring to them from the articles themselves. I am not clear on how licensing works with them, as the last couple reviews I did was encouraged to use aspects of the articles themselves to visually demonstrate aspects of the articles themselves. Open to discussing with you about this if it would help --- FULBERT (talk) 12:44, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan.

We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.

After the main meeting, pizza/chicken/vegetables and refreshments and video games in the gallery!

Park systems

Hi FULBERT:

Just a heads up. I noticed you are adding 2018 ParkScores to several articles. I noticed a statement in error based on what the cited source says. When I clicked through the citation, the source said that it was a comparison of the park systems of the "100 largest cities." You have written in the Wiki articles that ParkScore is comparing the "100 best park systems." cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 17:41, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Oldsanfelipe; evidence of the value of editors and proofreading!! Will check it out and clarify. Appreciate the clarification! --- FULBERT (talk) 18:16, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
FULBERT...no problem. I have made many of my own errors, including a subtle misreading of a source. happy editing, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 19:25, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Event coordinator granted

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 21:11, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
