Hello, I'm AngusWOOF. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Microchip implant (animal) have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. AngusWOOF I was asked by another reviewer Timtempleton to include that information on that page. I don't see why what I contributed is promotional at all. I mostly discussed the registration, cost and problems with it as well as solutions associated with registration of a microchip. I added information regarding AAHA, AMVA foundanimals.org and others that appears no where else in the article. I also pointed to a pet recovery service that no other entity could provide (Rabies Reader) but as no one else could or has done something similar it appears it is taken as "promotional". If you know of others doing the same thing please let me know and I will incorporate their references. Frankly I think the article is quite lacking in the area I discussed (registration) and worse off for its deletion. (User talk:Ezbsg) 14:56, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

@AngusWOOF:, I'm new to Wiki. How is this different than the iPhone page that promotes one product and company? I'm using other products as a guideline but struggling with these seemingly arbitrary decisions as to what is and isn't a promotion. Creating up a p[age that defines a significant product and how it helps rescue pets doesn't seem like "blatant advertising" to me. I reference Microsoft Windows and Apple's iPhone as examples. Hello, Ezbsg. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. I'm sorry, but  Draft:Pawmit has been deleted as meeting WP:CSD#G11. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to conform with Wikipedia:NOTFORPROMOTION." These must be rewritten from scratch from "reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject." See WP:RS.

Wikipedia:Identifying blatant advertising#Typical signs of blatant advertising contains information about content to avoid. For more information on content that may be perceived as promotional, click User:Dlohcierekim/promo. These are just rough guides. Pages can avoid all those pitfalls and still be glaringly obvious ad copy. Sometimes pages meeting WP:CSD#G11 give the appearance of an editor violating Wikipedia:Conflict of interest or WP:PAID. Please read and heed them if they apply to you. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations.

There is a very common mistake of assuming that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to promotion for commercial gain, but that is not so. Sometimes creators of promotional content are bewildered that it is considered such. If one has been trained to write or spent some time writing corporate documents or mission/vision statements or anything similar, they may simply be blind to the promotionality. It can be hard to unlearn.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see Wikipedia:Citing sources . Template:cite has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{references}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there.
