Nomination of Homestead Book Company for deletion edit

8.23.11 I see Homestead's entries didn’t make it on Wikipedia. I heard once, "You can't fight city hall." This is true with Wikipedia, too. How sad to see this original article cut, and how sad considering the HISTORICAL times that Homestead existed in pre-medical marijuana and the INTERNET…providing countercultural materials and FREE THINKING to the public. Yes, and Homestead Book Company still exists today. Thank you to those who supported my vision in adding this type of free thinking INFORMATION on this type of free thinking INFORMATION source. Notability on Wikipedia edit

Hello Lisbet and welcome to Wikipedia,

I am a moderately experienced Wikipedia editor and saw the deletion debate about Homestead Book Company. My guess is that this could be frustrating for you. I am sympathetic because I founded and worked for a counterculture business from 1970-1972. It was a co-op record store just north of Detroit, and we also sold counterculture publications including the Furry Freak Brothers comics. So I have a personal rapport regarding this kind of business.

That being said, a topic here on Wikipedia must be discussed in multiple, independent reliable sources. These need to be sources with editorial control and fact checking. You can't in any way, shape or form be considered a reliable source yourself, and your personal recollection of working for the company is original research.

The reliable sources don't need to be available online, but they need to be cited. I searched for sources online but found nothing. If you are aware of reliable sources, please furnish them ASAP.

If your first article doesn't survive, please don't lose heart. Select another topic where the sources are stronger, and keep contributing to the world's greatest encyclopedia. Feel free to ask me questions any time. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:20, 10 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Homestead edit

I tried to find references online, but as you can see, what i found was really not enough. I suspect the only place we will find appropriate references is in print sources that have not been scanned. If you had an issue of Seattle Magazine which discussed the company in depth, that would be an example of a good source. I worked for 10 years at Bookpeople, which had just enough references available (publishers weekly wrote about their demise) to pass notability. I suggest you copy the article as is to your Sandbox, if you think you can find references in the next few weeks or so. just make sure you remove the caregories and delink the company name, so that no one mistakes your userpage for an article (a banner atop your sandbox also helps, such as "this is not an article, its an article in preparation. information here may not yet be sourced, encyclopedic or notable"). good luck, and dont be discouraged.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 15:29, 10 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
