Speedy deletion nomination of User:Elibai

edit

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Elibai, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Elibai response

Hello, Elias here, I really can't understand why my page has been marked for "speedy deletion"; the only thing I have done is follow step by step the Wikipedia tutorial, before starting my own editions. And just for following the onboarding tutorial steps, you are threating of removing my profile ?
That sounds quite unfair and incomprehensible to me, I really wanted to start contributing, but first I considered it was good to first go through the learning phase. Elibai (talk) 05:08, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Elibai. The first time you created your user page, your user page had text like Created page with 'Hi ! My name is Elias and I come from a little island in the Mediterranean called Menorca. I currently live with my family in a natural park near Barcelona. I started programming with my Spectrum ZX Sinclair when I was 12, and have been into programming since then. These days I love generative art, blockchain technology (though I doubt it can fulfill many of the expectations people have on it) and metaverses. You can find me on https://twitter...'. That is why it got deleted. Your page looked like a self written vanity page, as a reason left by Jimfbleak. Let me inform you that wikipedia is not a webhost and the content you added clearly seems like you are using Wikipedia as so. And you are welcome to contribute here. Just abide the policies, thats all. Thanks and regards. Happy editing. ItcouldbepossibleTalk 06:25, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Understood! I really thought I was following the instructions given by the onboarding tutorial, I guess my twitter profile link is what triggered the alarm, maybe the tutorial should suggest "do not link to any third-party social media sites or your profile might get banned", because I found it a bit tough that following the onboard instructions triggered this incident. anyway, thanks for your patience with newbies like me. Elibai (talk) 07:03, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Oh, you made me so happy. No it was not your twitter profile link that tipped the alarm. Actually Wikipedia has AI methods of analyzing things, and it also has thousands of well coded bots to detect breaches of its policies. And Wikipedia has its own analyzing methods as well. There are bots that feed on data, process the algorithms and learn from those patterns, and that is how when the Wikipedia analyzes pages, it can detect things like self written page, or promotional page. You will understand it better since you can code. So now I hope you understand where you went wrong. Its normal to make mistakes. But if you have already performed the Wikipedia Adventure, then you must be knowing what to include in Wikipedia userpages and what not to. In the previous userpage that got deleted, you included too much personal information regarding you, including the place you stay. Now you might want to argue that you don't have problem revealing personal information, but you know what, rules are made for everyone here. Some might say that many people live in Barcelona, and it does not indicate a specific person, but still this the rule. At most, you can only mention from which country you are coming from. And also, you can just add your twitter account back, stating that people can contact you there, only for wikipedia related things, if they want. You can ping me if you ever have problems editing here. You can ping using {{u|Itcouldbepossible}} , replacing 'Itcouldbepossible' with the username of whoever you want to ping. Your contributions would be really valuable. Just read the policies that I have given you in the next message. There is nothing to hurry. There are lots of policies - both easy and complex. Start slowly, then gradually learn more and more.
You may as well as refer to this as well. It is the list of all the policies and rules that are practiced here on Wikipedia, though there are more.
Then you might as well as learn about the guidelines of doing things here. But again, don't pressurize yourself. Learn very slowly. I am really sorry if I irritated you with so many links, but these are all to help you as a new editor. Regards
PS: Ok, please don't think 'how does he know so much?'. Well, I like you am completely knew here, just a few months old, but I guess I am learning quite fast. So I also don't know everything out here. This place is huge and diverse. And don't back out if you make mistakes. I made hundreds of mistakes at the very beginning, more severe than yours, and I was told that I would be blocked for my disrupting editing. At that time, my edits were really disruptive. But, I was really upset. But then I stopped. I learnt all the policies, guidelines, and then I came back again a quite learned editor. But still, I still make mistakes while rollbacking vandalism. I apologize and note my mistakes in my mind so that I don't repeat the same. And in that way I am still learning, and you can also follow the same. Happy editing. Thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful response, now I could make more sense of the issue. Will take some time to read your links and then, I'll try to find somewhere I can add my first contribution. Best regards 09:26, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
