Newark Earthworks

I realize that the whole Newark Earthworks system might be listed as it is on the NRHP (at the location: 40°2′52″N 82°26′23″W), but I still think it's misleading to tell people that the remains currently lie where roads and people's houses are since most of the original Earthworks have been built on or destroyed. For example, the Country Club and Golf Course is really private property, it's a golf course built on top of some of the Earthworks. I wouldn't want to mislead people and say, "hey, these are the best coordinates we can use to represent the location of the site as it stands today and where you can go to see it." I know that's not really true, because it's better for people to go to the park instead. Perhaps we should use different coordinates to represent different sections of the Earthworks? Nevertheless, I still think the best location used to represent the site is the location off of Cooper Street (40°2′31.8″N 82°25′48.4″W), because those represent the most intact of the Earthworks that are left that people can go and see on public property, at what was called "Mound Builders Park". That is why I used those coordinates. If people go there first, then they can see the diagrams and read about the entire mound complex, and then if they are further interested, they can try to drive out to the Country Club and Golf Course and see what is left of those formations (that is, if they don't get hit by golf balls flying in the air.) Anyhow, that's why I think that "Mound Builders Park" is the best location to use for the Newark Earthworks, so that people know where to go to be able to see them on public property. I can see your point. I did a partial re-revert. Using the "boundaries" as on the NRHP (as the three are within the limits), but use the Great Circle coords. County Templates

Hi Ebaybe, are you an Admin or know someone who is? There is a user, User:Acntx who appears to making a large number of changes to County templates. He came to my attention when I noticed he made a change to the Template:Volusia County, Florida and added Flagler Beach, Florida to it. I live in Volusia County and know for a fact that the City of Flagler Beach is located entirely within Flagler County, not in Volusia County. I exchanged some messages with User:Acntx and he cited some US Census data to me. However, Census data does not alter what City Limits are. Special:Contributions/Acntx appears to be altering many other such templates throughout Wikipedia. Can someone more knowledgeable in Wikipedia check on this activity? Template: Florida Courthouses

Hi, I'm assuming that you patterned this after User:Nyttend's Ohio one. I've questioned him about why the word current is included in the text, when it appears that most entries are there for their historic value, rather than their currency. His answer was that's the way it's supposed to be and then deleted the template from Cuyahoga County Courthouse and added it to its replacement Justice Center Complex (Cleveland, Ohio). We have much the same thing in Florida. Many of our historic courthouses may not be the current ones. Anyway, why limit it to only current ones? Many current courthouses might not even qualify as notable.Wikipedia I believe is supposed to be an encyclopedia, not an almanac. Your thoughts, please. Makes no neverminds to me either way. :) As for as historicity, I know some old county courthouses don't exist anymore. Alachua and Marion up here only have the modern ugly versions. She seems to stick to nature photos, so I am trying to tempt her to visit Tiger Bay State Forest and other nature spots in this general area where photos are needed. Request for opinion and/or advice

Howdy! I am contemplating a merge proposal, something I haven't done before. Could I bother you to have a look at Talk:Odd Fellows Hall and tell me what you think, including, but not limited to:

• What do you think of the idea?
• What do you think of the wording of the proposal?

I seem to recall having seen a relevant template, but I haven't been able to locate it. Can you suggest how I might locate it?
And any other advice and opinions would be welcomed.

List of RHPs in FL and sandbox

Thanks in general for responding to my new effort on the RHP lists, and specifically for letting me know yesterday that u were developing a revised List of RHPs in FL in your sandbox. I then was able to save what i had developed so far for FL, and just stop with an incomplete version in place, and go work on another state's list instead. At that time I saw your complete version, and only went on to finish the other moves needed to make the FL links valid. Please do copy in your complete version whenever you like; i am done. About the current version, i like your photos. For some reason, in my firefox browser right now the photos are not arranging properly, they all show up in one 3 column clump, then followed by the table. Rather than one column of photos on each side of the narrow table. However i imagine that is a temporary glitch. Please do go ahead and move it in and keep tinkering as necessary. Volusia County Location Map

Hi, I recently created new location map for Volusia County (an upgrade step from the Florida map) that will work in some InfoBoxes. You can see it in action here: The Casements. Infoboxes for Non-NRHP Sites

Thanks for the suggestion, but after playing with that one, it seems to have some bugs in it (skewed to Pennsylania). Too much work for me to fix. :P Instead, I created a new one: {{Infobox_historic_area2}}. I took NRHP2 and stripped it down to a non-NRHP version. Here is a page I tested it out on! Bailey House (Gainesville, Florida) and dab rules

Hi Ebyabe, i saw ur edit at the work-in-process Bailey House dab page, now done i think. Thanks for adding a link to the Gainesville, FL article. FYI, about dab rules, I am now a lot more familiar with them, and I now understand that there are usually not supposed to be pipelinks in dab pages; if the page is named Bailey House (Gainesville, Florida), then it should show exactly that. This is unlike our NRHP lists where we usually choose to show the NRHP name for a property, and pipelink to the actual article name. Also there is usually supposed to be just one bluelink per entry. I guess you can also state an alternate name although i don't do that often. In this case, since Maj. James B. Bailey House was there, i am thinking that was the official NRHP name for the site. So, I edited this one to become something like:

• Bailey House (Gainesville, Florida), also known as Maj. James B. Bailey House, listed on the NRHP in Florida.

However, now when i visit the article, i am confused. I think the article should be moved to Maj. James B. Bailey House, because from the article it does not appear to me that the name of the place is Bailey House. The NRHP name for the site is Maj. James B. Bailey House. In the article, that is given as the main name, and an alternate name given is something else. It's not suggested that Bailey House is a common name for the house. It took me a while to find it myself. I finally found it on Google Books. I verified it with the NPS and they emailed a PDF of the nomination form months ago. Like all the old nominations, it was sparse. That is where I found the coordinates. I made up an infobox, then User:Gamahler removed it when he expanded the article :( Oh well. Seabreeze, Florida

Hi Ebaybe, I was starting to work on text for a new page for Seabreeze, Florida in my Sandbox, when I ran across an old page you made for Seabreeze Historic District (which is now a Redirect page). I now believe the Seabreeze Historic District is supposed to represent the old Town of Seabreeze that merged with Daytona and Daytona Beach in 1926. I would appreciate your input. Looks good. I'd suggest a few more inline references throughout the article. From looking at the map, it does look like the historic district does incorporate a good portion of the old town. Might you have access to the old limits for Seebreeze? Maybe at the local library or historical society. I know our local library has reference books on Ocala that aren't likely to be found much outside of here.

Funny, I was in Daytona Beach last weekend taking pictures. Well, I got there late, so didn't take many photos there, 'cause I started at the Canaveral Nat'l Seashore south of New Smyrna Beach. Florida State Road 40

BTW, which route do you use to go to Volusia County? I would like to expand the Florida State Road 40 article someday. Can you take some photos along the way, if you use this route? Can you take some photos of the Astor Bridge across the St. Johns River? It depends on what part of the county I want to wind up at. The last couple of times I've wanted to start around New Smyrna, so I've gone on County Road 42. Plus I'm getting a little bored with SR 40. At least between Barberville and Ormond Beach, there's a whole bunch of not much except trees, trees, and more trees. I did get some shots in Barberville and Astor. Been meaning to get the Astor Bridge, I'll add it to the list. If there are other specifics, I'd be happy to take shots along the way. :) And as far as meeting, yes, that's possible. What I'd like to do next is get to the Ponce de Leon Inlet Light the first thing in the morning, then work my way north. Possibly next weekend, but by Memorial Day if at all possible. On the Volusia side of the Astor Bridge, is the "Volusia Oak." Apparently it was due to be cut down when the current Astor Bridge was being built, but the local residents had a fit about it, and one of them actually chained himself to the tree until the State of Florida relented. So I guess the tree is kind of "in the way" of Route 40. Take a few photos of the tree if you can. Along the way eastward, are also:

• Lake George State Forest
• Volusia Speedway Park
• Tiger Bay State Forest

I don't know if you really "need" to go to the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse - there are already plenty of photos at Commons (I have plenty of my own, which I did not even bother to upload). Unless, you just want see it for yourself. Pay the $5 to climb the steps and take some photos from the top of the observation deck if you decide to go. Point your camera south toward New Smyrna Beach and you can get a nice skyline photo (I already did, its on the NSB page). There was a lot of haze the day I was there - maybe you can shoot a clearer one. The lighthouse is too far away from Daytona Beach or even Daytona Beach Shores to capture a skyline photo in that direction. Gamweb (talk) 13:22, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
