About Tunguska event in popular culture

Hi, Doniago! Earlier today you reverted my entry to this article about the Tunguska event appearing in a science fiction novelette by Larry Niven.

I understand the intention behind WP:IPCV requiring us to establish sufficient significance in popular culture, but from what I've seen IPC articles usually consider it sufficient if the person/event/thing plays central role in the plot of literature or other creative works. The TV and film section of the article already includes other entries with a comparable level of significance, many backed up by primary references only (e.g. the Doctor Who episode and the 1981 documentary).

In the novelette that I referenced, the Tunguska event isn't just mentioned in passing, the whole story revolves around a possibility for what the event could've been.

Could you elaborate on why you think my entry is not appropriate? Or perhaps suggest how to make it acceptable? Thanks! Meithan (talk) 23:03, 3 February 2023 (UTC)

Per the footnote at WP:IPCV (which I understand if you overlooked): "The consensus is very clear that a secondary source is required in almost all cases. A tertiary source is even better, if available. In the rare case that a primary source is judged to be sufficient, it should be properly cited. The source(s) cited should not only establish the verifiability of the pop culture reference, but also its significance."
If there are items on the list that only use primary sources, those should be reviewed and possibly need to be updated. I'm happy to take a look at the ones you mentioned in your comment if you'd like.
Hope this helps! DonIago (talk) 03:59, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
I have re-added the mention to the Niven short story, now citing a secondary source: a book about science and pseudo-science in science fiction. The short story is clearly mentioned in that book in a section about the Tunguska event and possible theories about its nature.
I also left the primary reference to the Niven short story collection, as I think this is useful for a reader wanting to read the story.
Hope the entry is acceptable now! Meithan (talk) 19:20, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! I don't think I have any issues with the current version, and I appreciate your providing a secondary source! DonIago (talk) 20:14, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Land of the Lost

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Land of the Lost (film). Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. The information you added was nonencyclopedic. In your edit summary, you claim that "it seems notable that actors from the original show appear in the film, even if they may not be easy to discern." But your claim is contadicted by the very text you are trying to add: "The original actors who played Holly and Will in the TV series, Kathy Coleman and Wesley Eure, filmed cameos for the film. However, the final version of the film cut these scenes." 178.66.142.30 (talk) 16:43, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Granted there scenes were cut, and I admit I overlooked that, but that doesn't make it inherently less notable that they were going to be in the film, and per WP:BRD when your edits were initially reverted you should have initiated a conversation about this at the article's Talk page rather than re-deleting the content that you disagree with.
I will be restoring the stable version of the text (which means that if the text was a recent addition then I won't re-add it). If you don't feel this text is appropriate, please start a conversation at the article's Talk page so that editors can form a consensus. Thank you for your understanding. DonIago (talk) 17:07, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Your activity violates MOS:FILMCAST. 178.66.142.30 (talk) 17:18, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
1) You're edit-warring. 2) You ignored my request to discuss this at the article's Talk page. 3) Please quote the part of MOS:FILMCAST that you feel I've ignored. DonIago (talk) 17:25, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
MOS:FILMCAST: "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, so it is encouraged to name the most relevant actors and roles with the most appropriate rule of thumb for the given film: billing (such as from its poster, opening credits, or main on-end credits), speaking roles, named roles, cast lists in reliable sources, blue links (in some cases), etc." 178.66.142.30 (talk) 17:32, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Given that another editor has weighed in on this, and that you failed to acknowledge 2/3 of the concerns I raised, I have no interest in continuing this discussion here. If you want to speak further about it, you may do so at the article's Talk page, as I've asked you to do repeatedly. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 17:36, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Pop Culture: Cobra Kai

Recently, I learned that to edit pop culture sections on Wikipedia, I should make sure my topic received much attention, or "notability" as this website puts it. I also learned that secondary sources are also important on this website. Recently, for the isolation tank's article, I found quite a few sources discussing a scene in season 5 of Cobra Kai, where one of the main female leads, Samantha LaRusso, uses the tank to come to terms with her mental health. One of these sources even compares the sequence of events to how Eleven from Stranger Things uses the isolation tank; they both used it to transport themselves to a black void where they encountered familiar people. I would like to know if any of these sources are "notable" enough to be featured in the pop culture section of the isolation tank's article:

https://www.looper.com/997047/small-details-you-missed-in-cobra-kai-season-5/

https://collider.com/cobra-kai-season-5-episode-3-recap-playing-with-fire/

https://www.vulture.com/article/cobra-kai-season-5-episode-3-recap-playing-with-fire.html

https://www.cbr.com/cobra-kai-season5-sam-rey-skywalker-moment-netflix/

https://screenrant.com/cobra-kai-sam-win-sekai-taikai-best-fighter/

P.s., I made sure all of the sources were not user-generated content. Misterspaceman (talk) 23:28, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

The Collider article is essentially just a recap, so I wouldn't use that; same for the Vulture article. The CBR and Screenrant articles' mentions are too brief to count for anything. The BC article talks about the actor's experience with the tank a bit, but not so much the use of the tank itself, either in or out of universe, at least not in any real depth. The Looper article is probably the best option, but it still isn't very extensive coverage. If you feel strongly about it, I'd say go ahead and add it, but be prepared for the possibility of it being challenged at some point. DonIago (talk) 18:49, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Bevo Mill photo

Hello! I uploaded a photo of Bevo Mill, and it was taken by my own great grandfather, so it is now my own property. I stated in the upload that it was mine. Is this why it was removed? I thought if it was taken by me, or owned by me, I was ok? Thank you for your help! My great grandfather built the Bevo Mill so I have some firsthand knowledge of it's history and original pictures, thank you! Kathleen McKee, daughter of Susan Grone, daughter of Louis H Grone II. Katmckee (talk) 15:19, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out to me, but I'm not sure how helpful I can be here. I haven't edited that article since 2019. I'd recommend reaching out to whoever was responsible for removing the photo.
If you have reason to believe that was me, please provide a link so I can investigate more thoroughly. DonIago (talk) 16:19, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Titanic (1997 film) runtime

Hi Doniago, I really can't see how my math is wrong here, as no one has explained how :49 could possibly round to 195. Is it a policy at Wikipedia that anything past :00 causes it to be rounded up? I will be reverting back to my edit because I strongly consider a published DVD cover to be correct regarding the runtime over a foreign film classification board. I have also started a discussion on the Talk page. Please don't revert my edit. I will continually be reverting it to the correct 194 minutes until a discussion confirms otherwise on the Talk page. TheKingLives (talk) 07:38, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

:49 is 49 seconds, not .49. 49 seconds rounds up to a full minute, as would any number greater than 30.
A DVD cover could be construed as marketing material and consequential it's reasonable to question its accuracy. Per WP:BRD, you've made an edit and it's been reverted. As such, you should be initiating a discussion at the article's Talk page if you wish to reinstate your changes. DonIago (talk) 14:04, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Re: Big Bang Theory cameo appearance

OK, your removal of Frances Arnold is valid based on the IMDB policy. I had just copied the ref from her own article w/o reading it. However, the appropriate episode summary in the BBT episode list does list her, along with Nobel Laureate George Smoot, plus another. Do you know of another readily available source we could consult? Blainster (talk) 20:43, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Looks like another editor's taken care of it at this point. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 21:07, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Kathy Bates article edits

According to the edit history, you and another user are approaching the territory of edit warring WP:WAR on the article for Kathy Bates.

Since there is not consensus on the appropriate term for female actors, with some using "actor" as a generic term, others still using "actress" and "actor" as gendered terms. (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Actor#The_term_actress)< I think means that the issue needs to be resolved via consensus on the talk page for this article.

I will be kicking off the discussion on the talk page for this article. I hope you'll join the conversation. Jmbranum (talk) 17:49, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Acknowledged, though I saw this after I saw that the other editor had once again made their change and reverted to the stable version. DonIago (talk) 18:07, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Corrections…

I see that you keep altering trivia to the Joe Manganiello page, removing genealogical facts and standing as the self appointed gate keeper of his producing and directing credits… I’d say that once you’ve produced two feature films, you should be considered a producer. Let alone five. Perhaps when you win an Emmy for voice work, your body of work should be considered significant… at what point will he be considered a game designer/writer, it seems like he’s pretty well known for that… I’m not sure where your information is coming from when it comes to the genealogical data but don’t you think it’s best suited for someone who knows more about it? He’s Croatian. He’s mentioned it a bunch of times. His paternal great-grandmother was Irish… it’s all been documented. It’s always a shame when these pages post false or incomplete information. Those things then have a habit of becoming accepted as misinformation and being spread… I’m not sure what the issue is here but it seems personal… if it was about facts, then I think you’ve only got them partially right. FriendOfJoe (talk) 00:37, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Raise your concerns at the article's Talk page and get a consensus in favor of your changes then. What I see is an editor with a name that's an apparent conflict of interest editing only a single page and frequently adding information or making changes that aren't supported by sources. Cheers. Nimh

I looked at Elizabeth Hartman's filmography on her wiki page, and Secret of Nimh was her final film.Cosmic2992 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 04:12, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

What you just described is literally the definition of original research and violates WP:CIRCULAR - Wikipedia is not a reliable source. I'm also more than a little unclear as to how this is non-trivial. DonIago (talk) 04:14, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
It's not. This happens everytime. You just didn't understand it at first. Cosmic2992 (talk) 04:20, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
Perhaps I'd better understand it if you provided citations? DonIago (talk) 04:22, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Bridge on the River Kwai

Hello, I'm Doniago. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, The Bridge on the River Kwai, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please review WP:IPCV as well. DonIago (talk) 03:38, 15 March 2023 (UTC

The citation I left is a PDF of an upload of the script of the episode, as the reference is spoken dialogue from that episode. I'm unsure how this is not a reliable source.

Bad scott (talk) 03:44, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Please read the info at the link I included in the note at the end of my comment. You're required to provide a WP:SECONDARY source for "in popular culture" items. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 03:57, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

edit made way back in February 2010 to G.I. Joe A Real American Hero (1985 TV series)

I’m not the same user as Drgloom, but you’re aware Sunbow lost the rights to G.I. Joe, and Transformers, after the 1987 animated G.I. Joe feature movie, and after part 3 of the Transformers season 4 (post-movie) episode ‘Headmasters’ (aka ‘The Rebirth’). My problem is - you removing this user’s edit, when it did make sense (I’m sending you this message on user Drgloom’s behalf). Ofcdeadbeat (talk) 23:28, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

Given that we're talking about an edit from 2010, I guess my first question would be why we're even talking about it at this point, given that the article has probably significantly changed since that point? Otherwise, I'm not really interested in digging into article history going back 13 years, so if you want me to take a look and weigh in more specifically, I'd need a WP:DIFF to work with, but I'll say upfront that I may not even know why I made whatever edit I made, nor necessarily agree with my reasoning at the time. In other words...is this worth making an issue of so long after the fact? DonIago (talk) 23:40, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
