Re: Bot

Hi Doc James! BattyBot 25 is working to fix dates in references that do not meet MOS:DATEFORMAT. Eventually, dates in incorrect formats will have a Check date values message visible for everyone to see, so the goal of the bot is to fix many of the common unambigious formats before the message gets switched on. We're still finding lots of creative bad date formats (as you can see on my talk page), which is why the bot is on its second run through Category:CS1 errors: dates. All of the changes are getting bundled together for future runs, as you suggested. We haven't decided how often the bot should run, but your input at Help talk:Citation Style 1 would be appreciated.

It would be great if we could change the citation templates so whatever format people put in would be displayed properly. If we only had one valid date format for all of Wikipedia, that might even be possible. However, with multiple acceptable formats, I don't know how this could be done. Any programming expertise you could provide at Help talk:Citation Style 1 would also be appreciated.

Most importantly, I understand that the standard watchlist only shows the most recent edit to an article, and if multiple people (or bots) edit on the same day, it takes more clicks to view the entire history to keep an eye out for vandalism. I recently learned that if you set your Preferences to Group changes by page in recent changes and watchlist and Expand watchlist to show all changes, not just the most recent, you'll be able get a more complete picture of all the edits that were recently made to an article. So instead of Hepatitis C just showing BattyBot, you could see on your watchlist that Donpayette and Flaming Ferrari also recently edited the page. (You may also want to increase the maximum numberof changes to show in expanded watchlist, depending on how many pages you're watching.)

I was going to point out bullet point #4 in the NPOV tag instructions, "The neutral point of view is determined by the prevalence of a perspective in high-quality, independent, reliable secondary sources, not by its prevalence among Wikipedia editors or the public." Thanks for the note about JNC 8. I have updated the medication section to take account of the new recommendations and added a table (based on the JNC 8 paper) comparing international guidelines. Scalable reference columns

Osteoporosis

Did you find time to check Template:Reflist? Re [5] I'm only editing per the guidance there. Please can you take your objection to Template talk:Reflist, as I previously suggested, there may be a good case for medical article exceptions I don't know, and I will hold off until then, but obviously others will increasingly use them. As I edit dab pages (OP) I do sometimes come across medical articles, so would prefer it reasoned there. Thanks, the dab was so bloated I didn't check sources. I haven't seen a hard rule. A (the) major practice of 1 (< ~10) ->2 (>~10) ->30em (> ~20-50) is detailed Template:Reflist#Practices with examples and really should be discussed for the MOS. The spirit/reasoning is Template:Reflist#Columns. Considering the spirit is it to pick column widths that are appropriate for the reference widths (to reduce white space), hardwiring (1,) 2 or 3 columns is a guess at the browser width, a heuristic which generally works, but when fails wastes a lot of space with many references, and probably less importantly forces 2 columns in very small windows (e.g. mobile browsers). Other than your assertion that their were more articles on pubmed for cannabis, I saw no evidence that this was true. No offense, and not to suggest you lied or even that you were surely wrong, but we only trust verifiable sources. And you did not provide anything verifiable, whereas Msnicki did. You need to count them manually not just type into pubmed.

Try it. Search for review articles for Cannabis from the last 5 years. Set the display to 200. Search for cannabis and you pick you 73+79+11=163, type in Marijuana you pick up 13+8+1=22.

Anaphylaxis in Kurdish Wikipedia

Hello, thank you for your article on anaphylaxis in the Kurdish Wikipedia. There are two main Kurdish dialects, Northern and Central Kurmanji. In ku.wiki you will find any Kurdish dialect, but mainly Northern Kurmanji or Kurmanji, in Latin script, and in ckb.wiki, Central Kurmanji or Sorani in Arabic script. A good link between ku. and ckb.wikies is Çalak, Çalak in ckb. or Çalak in ku. I think your article was aimed for ckb., but we also welcome it, but we switch the alphabet into Latin script and add a box showing that it is in Central Kurdish (Sorani). Comments to cs:Diabetes mellitus 2. typu

Problems are: missing spaces, excess spaces, bad wikilinks (not only because of missing articles, but also because of incorrect formation) and use of non-existent templates on cswiki (I already fixed bad infobox with artifacts from denegue article). I am afraid that some of these problems could be easily solved, if translator bother to read the text after submitting it to cswiki. --Jklamo (talk) 03:06, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Many thanks. So we do inform all the translators when the articles are added and invite them to come fix the last few issues. The translations however are not being added by the translators but by a few of us English speakers. We are trying to recruit local Wikipedians to help and have managed in a number of languages but not yet unfortunately in Czech.

I think I have removed most of the templates that are none existent have I not? We are going through the source file to remove templates before translation so hopefully this will be less of an issue going forwards. Will look into the issue with spaces. Non-existent templates are gone. I think it is important to recruit some Czech wikipedians, as for example wikilinks are hard to create by non-Czech speakers (because of inflection). There is some feedback on Czech village pump and i am afraid it is not positive. They think that is necessary to found Czech volunteers, otherwise they request to stop the project. Concerning Swedish translations

Please keep contributing translations to Swedish Wikipedia. I strongly disagree with the actions by Yger and certain other users. They are in my view acting in an inappropriate and willful manner that does not reflect consensus on Swedish Wikipedia and goes against our own policies. The whole disagreement is based on an unfortunate idea that methods of treatment have to reflects Swedish medical practice, which is obviously anathema to WP:GLOBAL. It might need some tweaking to include other perspectives, but it certainly doesn't mean we can't include descriptions of international medical practice.

I've done plenty of translation and even done some minor professional work, and I agree that the language in your contributions wasn't up to standard. However, it did not merit total reverts. I would be more than happy to help you out with proofreading of translations. Feel free to contact me about new additions to Swedish Wikipedia. Either here or at my Swedish talkpage.

You've created conflicts on svwp. The article has an attitude to the use of antibiotics which is no longer accepted in Swedish health care. It may create expectations among patients for a certain treatment and thus put pressure on doctors to prescribe drugs against local policy to counter drug resistance. The article may cause harm. If you read the English version and the same concerns exist in the English version than the "fault" is mine. However every sentence in the English version is attributed to a high quality reference. I may have mis summarized the reference or the reference may simply state something that those in Sweden disagree with. If you provide me the English passages that some in Swedish disagree with would be happy to look at them.

James and his translators have contributed large amounts of new, informative and well-referenced content to Swedish Wikipedia. If you have concerns about certain views being over-represented you should work on the issue through factual discussion and article improvement. In general I agree with your view that overuse of antibiotics is a problem, but you need to treat this as any other WP:NPOV-issue. Describe the differences instead of simply trying to denigrate, belittle or censor other views. If you believe there are POVs that aren't properly represented, start digging up references to support them and simply add them. The idea that the article "may cause harm" has no support in policy or community consensus, despite your claims to the contrary.

Overall, there's really only the need for general proofreading. Concerning the differences in medical practices internationally, I'd say we simply need to be more specific about which treatments are preferred where. As pointed above, Swedish Wikipedia really doesn't have any special rules on this; we have almost the exact same disclaimers about medical advice and there's basically the same policy on global perspective. The issue seems to be one of unfamiliarity with international medical treatment.

I'd be more than happy to help communicate this to your translators.

Great to have something constructive coming out of this. The article has its merits, but the general publishing of this article version was surrounded by a lot of less than optimal circumstances. Hopefully your stay at the discussion has made you aware of some of them. Some things to take into consideration:

- Your new article version was an improvement, but not a version without faults. The old version was lacking in depth – and sources (until last night, to no avail following later reinstatement of the enlarged version).

- To publish a radically different version of a Wikipedia article means that you take a great risk of wasting your effort, if you're not willing to follow this up with later contributions in the article. A Wikipedia article on medicine presented in a more advanced language/style needs to be taken care of by persons that master both the subject, language and are willing to edit on Wikipedia. Hopefully we can find this or these persons. Just as the merits of this advanced language/style is debatable.

- It would benefit to have contact with the translators of the article. You can always send text to me through the "Email this user" function.

- The WikiProject Medicine is poorly known and/or understood on Swedish Wikipedia. It would benefit to make it more well-known, so we at sv:wp can evaluate your goals and formulate the right questions. In the current "Bybrunnen" discussion, we've had differing views upon the degree and type of advice we would like to see in a medical article directed at the general public (ill or not). The fact that sv:Urinvägsinfektion currently only sources the text to English-language texts could possibly influence its content. Some of this has already been mentioned in the discussion. In WikiProject Medicine, I hope you at least consider using sources in the target language. This would hopefully make it easier for the local reader looking up what the stuff is all about.

User:CFCF is a Swedish Wikipedian and is involved. He also has a strong medical background. We are not deleting sourced content in target languages. I have also put him in touch with the translators so that he can relay concerns and instructions between the community and them.

The program is described here [10]. Progress is here [11] and instructions on how to access articles and add them are here [12]. Anyone is free to add articles and in many languages the articles are entirely added by local Wikipedians. Anyone can also communicate with the translators by using the proz.com website. I use a form adapted from my health region. The College of Physicians and Surgeons is happy with it. I keep a signed copy. I do not and will not send it to commons. The people at commons are just volunteers and the systems they use do not have enough security to handle patient names. Translation ready for integration

Hi,

I would like to help with integration translated articles into Polish but I can't get the translated texts from the twb page Can't log in with my proz.com login password pair. Any hints ? Anyway from my experience integration into WP-PL might be a bit problematic. I would like to have another go anyhow. Maybe this time it'll work out better.

reversts on sv:wp

we have discssued these inserts on our Village Pump, and agree we do not want thses kind of inserts from outside, so any further inserts like this will be reverted. There are three main reasons

• We state our target group to be people with basic knowledge like a 15 years old. Your articles introduced word and concept that most 50 years of age will find har to understand. För exampel to us miktate for urinating is only understood by experts in medicine
• We do not accept that proper articles will be overridden, or even mechanically merged. It is unacceptable to the persons who have written good and proper wikifyed articles
• Most important though, is that medcine articles on sv:wp is based upon that there exist excellent articles on medicin in goverment supported webbpages. And we do not want our pages to compete with these. Therfor we conctrate in giving only basic info but understandable text

Also in the dscissuion we had on the villag punp in July 2012 this was the concusion, so it should not come a surprise. So I admire your ambition, but the way you are proceedning your implemention on sv:wp in not acceptable.Yger (talk) 18:20, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
