Highway Shields of Ontario

Hiya. I've uploaded the three Highway shields (Highway 129, 144, and 407), and they are in the pubic domain as it has been over 50 years since the shield type was first made (March 1, 1930). I've also made them in Photoshop myself, and i have no issues with anyone using them for whatever reason they see fit. I highly doubt they are a violation of copyright. Hello. I noticed that your name was listed as a member of the Wikipedia Project for Academy Awards (at this page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Academy Awards). Are you still interested in, and involved with, this project ... or, in the Academy Awards topic in general? If so, I would like to ask you a question and to solicit your input, advice, and suggestions. Here on Wikipedia, I am most interested in, frequently contribute to, and tend to monitor and edit the various Academy Award articles -- of which there are many. That topic is essentially my primary interest here on Wikipedia. One day recently (about a week ago), I was reviewing / editing / proofreading the various Academy Award articles, as I do pretty regularly. Literally, as I was working on them, an administrator was deleting many, many of the articles -- I believe, seven Academy Award articles in total. I am sure that they went through the proper AfD process. However, I was unaware that they were even being considered for deletion (since they were not on my Watch List). As a result, I was not able to participate in any of the discussion or debate ... and all seven articles were ultimately deleted. The list of articles deleted is here (if you look under Item #3 on my "To Do List"): User:Joseph A. Spadaro/Sandbox/Page09. Needless to say, I am very upset about this and I sincerely feel that these are worthwhile articles, into which a lot of work was placed (by me and by you and by others). If I had my druthers, all seven articles would be un-deleted ... however, I am certain that Wikipedia hardly works that way (i.e., letting my druthers dictate the issue). So, basically, these are my questions to you. (1) Do you agree or disagree that these articles should have been deleted? (2) What, if anything, can I (or you or others) do about all of this? (3) Is there any way to fix this, or am I barking up a wrong tree, which will only result in banging my head against the proverbial brick wall? Will I be spinning my wheels, getting nowhere ... or can this situation change? By the way, the deletion debate is here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of actors receiving six or more Academy Award nominations -- if you can call it a debate. I am really very upset about all of this. Please advise. PS: In a subsequent post, I can offer my specific reasons to un-delete these articles and to counter-argue the consensus reached at the debate. At ease soldier

First of all, I'm not on a personal mission to uproot the work you've done on the Mute Math article. I'm getting the feeling that you're taking my corrections a bit personal, and if they have offended you, let me apologize. Honestly, I think you and the other contributors have done a fine job in presenting the Mute Math story from the first time I came by. I only thought there were a few things that stood out as needing changes.

On the matter of the charts and singles, I am only appealing to your common sense and hopefully the part of you that is an actual Mute Math supporter as am I. I think it's quite clear when you hear issues articulated from the band themselves as substance… that takes precedent over anything second hand.

Remember, "Wikipedia has many rules. Instead of following every rule, it is acceptable to use common sense as you go about editing. Being too wrapped up in rules can cause you to lose perspective, so there are times when it is better to ignore a rule. If you use common sense when editing, you are unlikely to do anything wrong." Let's face it; this is not an issue of facts or "an apparent attempt to rewrite history," but an issue of which facts are relevant to be presented on the bands behalf. If we are the gatekeepers, then we have certain responsibilities. The Mute Math guys are "living persons," and have a right to be presented in a manner that is congruent with how hard they work themselves on it. You and I both know that there are a ton of facts and back story that have been left out in this wikipedia article on the band that could be stated but aren't necessary. And I think the way you've maintained it (for the most part) is complimentary to the integrity of the band in context with what wikipedia is.

Re:About date formatting

What I change in date formatting is in the some Indian-related articles because some articles in Indian-related articles are in month-date-year instead of date-month-year like this: [1] and after I changed, the result is: [2]. My explanation is India use date-month-year instead of month-date-year because of British influence. And I will clear that I did not change a date formatting in American-related articles and I retain to month-date-year format. And I did not change a date formatting in British or Australian-related articles and I retain to date-month-year format also. Apologies - should have specified the article in question: Gilles Grondin, a Canadian subject. Since Canada has no consensus on date formatting, dates on the Canadian-related articles should not be changed. American and British influences are in effect there; Quebec in particular (where Gilles Grondin is from) uses day-month-year order as standard due to French/European influence. As you rightly indicated, Australian, British, or Indian articles are best with day-month-year (International) format; articles associated with those nations are not a concern in this case. Soldier of Fortune--company in infobox?

I placed this question on the talk page for the article Soldier of Fortune on 11 January, but after receiving no reply there, it occurred to me to track down the person responsible for the infobox via the edit history, and here I am. I have several issues, but freely admit that none of them are recent. In them, the name of the company is "Omega Group. Ltd." (indicating that, at least legally, the company is based in some British Commonwealth country) rather than "Soldier of Fortune Inc." as found in the article's infobox. Has the publication changed this in the years since my most recent issue--mind you, I have read much more recent issues than those I currently possess--or is this a mistake, perhaps thinking of the late 1990s syndicated TV adventure series in which the magazine had some sort of participation, SOF: Soldiers of Fortune, Inc. (for its second season the title was changed to Special Ops Force, since they had obviously been taking assignments for American intelligence rather than hiring out, but the acronym still applied)? Reply understood. I didn't know what "deprecated" meant, and the entry in the edit history I checked then, when you redid it, showed the previous revision to be really weird-looking, with no (readable, at least) info there, just the form. I assumed that state was what deprecated referred to. Given the presence of this name on their website, I'd have to agree that nothing less than a current issue to the contrary could justify changing it. Thanks. Oops, that was a case of bit-rot: the code that was checking for template-populated categories had been broken by some random change or other to MW rendering since the last run, so was failing to skip such cases. K'naan

I have already explained my reason for reverting your edit on the K'naan page. Somalis are not classified as black in Canada because Canada classifies its population by ethnic group and not by perceived race. What's more, Somalis do not cluster neither genetically nor phenotypically (skull type, tooth size, prognathism, etc.) with blacks. I did not add personal analysis to the article, either change I submitted was factual. I was in the process of sourcing the Swollen Members comment when it was deleted, and Ghost in the Shell Innocence is not a Doomsday film nor was it properly sourced as one, nor was the article sourced in any way, this is just a fact. It's like listing "Saving Private Ryan" or "Weekend At Bernies" on that list. Hello there. I saw your articles peeking at both WP SK and WP PEI when I was going through new articles. Both these WP had a bot pick up articles with talk page tagging when the WP were created, now a bot picks up articles which state SK or PEI within the article content as per its robotic criteria. Federal elections tables

DI2000, I like the CanElec4Row model, and am now using for all election tables I create. Sorry for starting with the Ontario tables in the old format. I am concerned about applying to previous elections as you have done at Argenteuil—Papineau—Mirabel. in this riding, and I fear others, you have made the Union Populaire candidate in the 1979 election a Bloc Quebecois candidate. Date formats after autoformatting

With the recent deprecation of date autoformatting, "raw" dates are becoming increasingly visible on Wikipedia. Strong views are being expressed, and even some edit-warring here and there. A poll has been initiated to gauge community support to help us develop wording in the Manual of Style that reflects a workable consensus. As you have recently commented on date formats, your input would be helpful in getting this right. Four options have been put forward, summarised as:

1. Use whatever format matches the variety of English used in the article
2. For English-speaking countries, use the format used in the country, for non-English-speaking countries, use the format chosen by the first editor that added a date to the article
3. Use International format, except for U.S.-related articles
4. Use the format used in the country

Ottawa bus station

I don't know how I blew that, I must have got my searches mixed up. OC Transpo does refer to it as "Central Bus Station" but Greyhound simply calls it "Ottawa Bus Terminal", and other than that there is not much more than directory entries. I notice that all the signage[3][4] is "Station Centrale" the same as in Montreal and if that is a brand name or the proper name, that is really what should be used. It comes down to the same as translating a brand like the Montreal Canadiens to the Canadians (ouch) or a proper name like Jean Drapeau to Johnny Flag; not done. That is why I also created redirects for Station Centrale d'Autobus Ottawa and Station Centrale d'Autobus Montréal - the writing here[5] is on the wall! Swimming in Alberta

D12000, have you ever had the pleasure of actually swimming in an Alberta lake? With a few exceptions i.e. Pigeon Lake, most lakes in this province within an hour of any major population centre (and that covers pretty much the southern two-thirds of the province) are not considered swimming lakes. You will find people water-sliing in abundance, and fishing as well. You really don't encounter people swimming except in a few lakes that are known to have a sandy bottom or are relatively free from algae blooms etc. The best swimming lakes are likely to be found in the Northeast quadrant which geographically is part of the Canadian Shield. Most of these lakes can only be reached by float plane however, and therefore swimming (I am guessing) isn't a rampant activity. Most recreational swimming on the part of resident of Alberta happens in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, or in a public pool. I changed the text of your article, because as a lifelong Albertan, I know the characterisation of swimming as a suitable activity at a typical lake in this province is simply not true.

Hi, I noticed your informed post at MOSNUM talk on the centralised discussion of birth/death date templates. I also noticed the sign in support of international date format for Canadian usage. As an outsider, I'm interested in why you take a stand either way. Incidentally, my auditing of dates in thousands of articles has shown, as a rough estimate, that not one in 20 Canada-related articles use international date format. M.I.A. Date of birth

That is where you will find a copy of her babies birth certificate. She legally signed the certificate & it states that she was born July 18-75 which is the correct date of her birth. Category:National Historic Sites in British Columbia

I wasn't around when it was decided to create this category, or perhaps it was on your own initiative, which is fine and dandy. Except I think a more appropriate cat name would better be Category:National Historic Sites of Canada in British Columbia or else the implication is that it's a British Columbia designation; the full title of such sites is "National Historic Sites of Canada", after all; truncating that name only adds confusion, IMO.Skookum1 (talk) 13:08, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

I understand that the parent cat is Category:National Historic Sites of Canada but that's necessary to know which nation we are speaking of. The national historic sites BC subcategory (and another one for Alberta) was created by User:Kappakapa last month so it was there when I did yesterday's round of cat sorting. In any case, no province name is disambiguated, therefore there seems to be no need to specify Canada in the category title. Howard Eliott Payne Article

With regards to this article being a factual document, the items I added were actually more based on fact than what appears on the article. It is a FACT that Howards D.O.B is 05/11/1970, not 1975 that he claims it to be, yet this always seems to be re-set to the false age.

With regards to verifyable items, there will be no mention anywhere researchable of a folk singer based in New York at the time Howard claims to be there, because that is all lies so this should also be removed.
Howard Eliott Payne IS known as Bronco. What is the relevance of a wind up radio whether it be working or broken? I dont see how the article as is at the moment is any more truthful than what I wrote. The article does reflects Howard Eliott Payne in that it is full of bull**** and you can tell he wrote it which is also against wikipedia policy. This article should be given a full review for its content, not just for the 'joke' edits I and others have done.
