Randall article - S. Walter Poulshock

Hello, I think I might have spotted a problem with the article on Samuel J. Randall. One of the sources cited is S. Walter Poulshock of UPenn/Rutgers. I've recently been reading about his career and how it emerged that he committed extensive academic fraud, which led me to add an article on him. (His book was apparently detected as fraud in 1966, but I think with the internet not around and a general reticence about the topic the word did't spread well.) Should this be changed somehow? I thought I should ask you since I know little about history and it's your project. (Tariffs in United States history has the same problem and there it's probably even more important since that was what his career specialised in, but it's not a featured article.) @Blythwood: thank you for bringing that to my attention! I seem to have only cited to Poulshock's article twice, and for pretty basic points, not direct quotations from 19th-century figures, so I don't think the Randall article has any issue with incorrect information. Just to add, I really recommend removing that ref as soon as possible - my impression reading the available sources on his short career as a historian is nothing he wrote can really be trusted since it was all one fairly closely connected body of work - PhD thesis, journal articles, book on the same topic. Beer

Hi there! My name is Austa and I am taking a college course in Wikipedia and editing Wiki articles this semester. One of our assignments is to edit a number of articles of a particular WikiProject. I chose beer as mine, and was wondering if you knew of any articles in particular that need help and how I could help flesh them out. I think the thing I'm the most confused about is trying to decide what kind of information is relevant enough about a particular subject to include on their Wiki page, and how Wikipedia feels about quotes and attribution since I will most likely have to do fairly extensive research in order to correctly add to the articles.

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter

That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. Forty-seven competitors move into this round (a bit shy of the expected 64), and we are roughly broken into eight groups of six. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups.

Twenty-two Good Articles were submitted, including three by Cyclonebiskit (submissions), and two each by MPJ-DK (submissions), Hurricanehink (submissions), 12george1 (submissions), and Cas Liber (submissions). Twenty-one Featured Pictures were claimed, including 17 by Adam Cuerden (submissions) (the Round 1 high scorer). Thirty-one contestants saw their DYKs appear on the main page, with a commanding lead (28) by Cwmhiraeth (submissions). Twenty-nine participants conducted GA reviews with J Milburn (submissions) completing nine.

Heh, first time today I've been called reasonable... Would you mind if I changed it back? In the present one his face is so far away from the camera - so many people access WP on their mobile devices - I tend to think info box images that are more of a close-up of the subject's face hold more interest. WikiCup 2016 May newsletter

Round 2 is over and 35 competitors have moved on to Round 3.

Round 2 saw three FAs (two by Cas Liber (submissions) and one by Montanabw (submissions)), four Featured Lists (with three by Calvin999 (submissions)), and 53 Good Articles (six by Worm That Turned (submissions) and five each by Hurricanehink (submissions), Cwmhiraeth (submissions), and MPJ-DK (submissions)). Eleven Featured Pictures were promoted (six by Adam Cuerden (submissions) and five by Godot13 (submissions)). One Featured Portal, Featured Topic and Good Topic were also promoted. The DYK base point total was 1,135. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) scored 265 base points, while The C of E (submissions) and MPJ-DK (submissions) each scored 150 base points. Eleven ITN were promoted and 131 Good Article Reviews were conducted with MPJ-DK (submissions) completing a staggering 61 reviews. Two contestants, Cwmhiraeth (submissions) and Cas Liber (submissions), broke the 700 point mark for Round 2.
