Adding references can be easy

Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.

Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:

1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
2. Then click on "Templates".
3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the web URL (or "website link") becomes inactive in the future.
4. Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
5. Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
6. Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.

• Before clicking on Save page, check that a References header   ==References==   is near the end of the article.
• And check that   {{Reflist}}    is directly underneath that header.

7.  Click on Save page. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.

Hi Cismithjr44. I've added the above template to your user talk page after see you post at the Wikipedia Teahouse because it contains information and links that you might find helpful. Even though Wikipedia does not express prohibit COI editing, it is something which is highly discourage because it can quickly lead to more serious problems. So, if you are connected to the person you're writing about in your user sandbox, please click on the "blue links" found above and read the information contained on those pages. The better you understand Wikipedia's policies and guidelines with respect to conflict of interest editing, the better your chances of avoiding problems with other editors. You might also want to take a look at Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, Wikipedia:Ownership of content, Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Relationship between the subject, the article, and Wikipedia, and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing.

It's very important that you understand from the start that a Wikipedia article is only intended to reflect what reliable sources (preferably independent of the subject) are saying about the subject, and this includes both positive and negative types of coverage. Articles are not intended to be attack pieces for denegrating a subject, but they are also not intended to puffy PR pieces for promoting the subject. Even negative content (or content the subject might percieve as being negative) can be included if (1) it can be verified through citations to reliable sources, (2) it's not overly undue or non-neutrally worded and (3) a consensus is established that the content is encyclopedically relevant to the reader. What this means is that if by chance the draft you're working on does someday get accepted, you will have no final editorial control over what content is added and what is removed.

So, if the content in the draft is even close to being verifiablly true and you do have a COI, then my suggestion to you is to let someone else write the article. You can probably find someone who would be happy to do so over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football. Just post a message there and see what happens. The members of that Wikipedia have lots of experience writing/editing that type of articles and should be able to comes up with something that complies with all relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. You may even make suggestions about article content on the talk page and they will figure out which ones are OK and which ones are not so good.

One thing that you might be able to do would be to provide a picture for possible use in the article. It has to be a photo, etc. that you own the copyright on (i.e., a photo you took yourself) and something that you are willing to willing to release under a free license. Photos are not required for articles, and not having a photo will not affect whether the draft is ultimately accepted (that's going be determined by assessing whether the subject meets Wikipedia:Notability (people) or Wikipedia:Notability (sports)), but it can be a nice touch, especially in an articles about individuals.
